Montevallo resident

Lexie L. Hood, 90, of Montevallo died Monday, July 19, 2004. She was born in Alabama on March 24, 1914 to Jonah and Birdie Northcutt Lucas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jess Hood, and great-grandson, Lake Smith.

She is survived by her daughters, Margaret (James E.) White, Shirley Sue (Jackie) Warren and Thelma (Gary) Smith, all of Montevallo; grandchildren, Pam (Steve) Brinks of Germany, Bridget (Mark) Broadhead of Thorsby, Shawn (Donna) Smith of Montevallo, Terri (Jerry) Baker of Montevallo and Jamie (Tracy) White of Montevallo; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Graveside service was July 21 at Ashby Cemetery in Bibb County, the Rev. Hal Warren presiding and Charter Funeral Home directing.

FANNIE MAE INGRAM

Wilsonville resident

Fannie Mae Ingram, 83, of Wilsonville died Saturday, July 24, 2004, in Talladega. She was born May 7, 1921, in Childersburg and was preceded in death by her husband, Lummie Lee Ingram, and three sons, Lummie Jr., Robert and Billy.

She is survived by 13 children, James Ingram, John Henry Ingram and Nancy Rape, all of Wilsonville, Frances Stephens, Janice Phelps, Rebecca Crumpton and Donald Ingram, all of Childersburg, Phyllis Martin and Evelyn Ingram, both of Sylacauga, Larry Ingram of Collinsville, Ga., Roger Ingram of Lincoln, Betty Vaughn of Remlap and Kay Maddox of Singer, La.; one sister, Sadie Marie Bender of Oxford; one brother, Clarence Burton of Griffin, Ga.; 42 grandchildren; and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.

Service was July 27 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, the Revs. Red Vansant and Sammy McEwen presiding. Burial followed in Fourmile Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

PAUL RAMON NORTHCUTT

Jemison resident

Paul Ramon Northcutt, 80, of Jemison died July 21, 2004.

He is survived by his wife, Leatha W. Northcutt of Jemison; his daughters, Joan Robinson of Jemison and Judy Henry of Jemison; two granddaughters, Paige Scruggs and Leighsa Robinson, both of Jemison; grandsons, Shane Robinson and Bryan Henry of Jemison; great-grandchildren, Brently and Brittan Scruggs of Clanton, Shayna and Shelbie Robinson, Kassie, Kamber and Ty Bird, all of Jemison.

Service was July 23 at Victory Baptist Church, the Rev. Donald Jones presiding and Martin Funeral Home directing.

JOSEPH R. PHELPS JR.

Columbiana resident

Joseph R. Phelps Jr., 12, of Columbiana died July 25, 2004. He was a member of Mt. Era Baptist Church. He attended Thompson Middle School, rode horses at Special Equestrians, played baseball with the Challenger League, swam at Lakeshore Rehabilitation, was involved in the Special Olympics and was a yearly attendee of Camp ASCCA.

He is survived by his mother, Kim, and stepfather, Bill Caldwell of Columbiana; his father, Joseph R. Phelps, and stepmother, Kathy, of Acworth, Ga.; his brother, Matthew; his grandparents, Janet "Nana" Glenn and Frances "Honey" Phelps, Bill and Reba Caldwell, Martha and Bob Chastaine, Richard and Lone Phelps Jr.; his stepsisters, Shelby and Hayley Caldwell, Amy Townley and Jennifer Watson; his stepbrother, Jason Caldwell; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, classmates and friends.

Service was July 28 at Southern Heritage Chapel with burial at Pine Lawn Gardens in Columbiana, Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing. Memorial donations should be made to Special Equestrians in Indian Springs or Camp ASCCA in Jackson Gap, Ala.

OSCAR LEE PHILLIPS

Vandiver resident

Oscar Lee Phillips, 86, of Vandiver died July 25, 2004. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Mae Phillips.

He is survived by his daughter, Vera Lee (Morris) Smith; three grandchildren, Cheryl, Carolyn and Phillip; five great-grandchildren, Andrew, Ryan, Dylan, Christopher and Matthew; his sister, Mary Taylor; and two brothers, Alfred Davis Phillips and Mack Milton Phillips.

Service was July 28 at Kilgroe Chapel, the Revs. Ken Taylor and Gene Dobbs presiding. Burial followed in Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville, Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directing.

KENNETH P. PORTER

Shelby resident

Kenneth P. Porter, 60, of Shelby died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born June 1, 1944, in Shelby.

He is survived by his son, Dennis Porter; his mother, Nellie Porter; his brother and sister, Bunny (Howard) Benson and Glenn (Joyce Faye) Porter, all of Shelby.

Service was July 24 at Bolton-Letlow Chapel, the Rev. Howard Brasher presiding. Burial followed at Shelby Garden of Rest, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

JAMES KEITH DURHAM

Birmingham resident

James Keith Durham, 41, of Birmingham died July 15, 2004.

He is survived by his former wife, Molette Durham; his parents, Glenn "Blackie" and Susan Durham; his daughter, Christina Molette Durham; his brother, Ricky Michael Durham; his sister, Whendy Durham; his grandmother, Blanche "Bobo" Gustin; and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

Service was July 19 at the Southern Heritage Chapel with burial following in Southern Heritage Cemetery, Ridout's Brown Service directing.

NATHANIEL "NAT" MILLER BARKER II

Chelsea resident

Nathaniel "Nat" Miller Barker II, 48, of Chelsea died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 4, 1956, in Birmingham.

He is survived by his children, Nathaniel Aaron Barker and Jessica "Jessie" Nicole Barker; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nat Barker Sr.; brothers, John Barker, Bill (Cathy) Barker and Ben (Devonna) Barker; and sisters, Lisa (David) Shirley, Linda (Steve) Thomas and Rachel (Jeff) Johnson.

Service was July 16 at K-Springs Church, the Rev. Alan Higdon presiding. Burial followed in K-Springs Cemetery, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

LESLIE JAMES GLASS

Retired from military service

Leslie James Glass, 82, of Calera died July 15, 2004, in Calera. He was a retired major in the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He served as a master mason in Masonic Lodge. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Gay Joe.

He is survived by his son, James L. (Lynda) Glass of Alabaster; his stepson, Terry (Lisa) Sims of Calera; three grandchildren, Chris (Heather) Joe, April (Kevin) Glass Brand and Allison Glass; and one step-grandson, Curtis Sims.

Service was July 17 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Providence Cemetery, Rockco's directing.

JAMES W. GOODWIN

Shelby resident

James W. Goodwin, 73, of Shelby died Monday, July 12, 2004, at his home. He was born Aug. 3, 1930 in Birmingham and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. He and his wife worked with Carpenters for Christ. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and Veterans Administration. His service spanned five decades including service in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his children, Frances Carol Goodwin, and his grandson, Ryan Riley.

He is survived by his wife, Peggy S. Goodwin; his children, Brenda (Randall) Phillips, Sandra (Randy) Riley and John (Connie) Goodwin; stepchildren, Sherry Williams, Pamela Jo (Steele) Hatley and James Hatley; an aunt, Inez Wiley; brothers and sisters, John Allen (Annette) Bearden, Jane Tartavolle, David Bearden, Tommy Bearden and Judy (Bob) Armstrong; grandchildren, Meredith, Stephanie, Katie, Lauren, Jeremy (Stephanie), Christopher and Joe Lee; one great-grandchild; and other family and friends.

Service was July 14 at Bethlehem Baptist Church of Shelby, the Rev. Rodger Hamaker presiding. Burial followed at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Corner, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church building fund.
