Paul Glenwood Howze, 71, of Calera died Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Alabaster. He was retired from ABC Rail and was a member of Amazing Grace Worship Center in Saginaw. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 445.

He is survived by his wife, Dean C. Howze of Calera; three sons, Tony (Sam) Howze of Calera, Beaver (Diane) Howze of Jemison and Kevin (Michelle) Howze of Calera; two sisters, JoBeth Howze of San Diego, Calif., and Deloris Davis of Mobile; five grandchildren, Mary Vinson, Tracey Howze, Angela "A.J." Johnson, Jolyn Hannah and Clay Hannah; two great-grandchildren, Michael Lane Vinson and Gracie Vinson; a host of nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Goff.

Service was July 20 at Amazing Grace Worship Center in Saginaw, the Rev. Ray Smith presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Garden in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

DONALD B. "POP" MILSTEAD

Father of four

Donald B. "Pop" Milstead, 88, of Calera died Friday, July 16, 2004, in Alabaster.

He is survived by his daughters, Brenda M. (Bobby) Scott and Donna C. Click; two sons, Dale (Kay) Milstead and Michael (Pam) Milstead; one sister-in-law, Bessie Milstead; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a dear niece, Pat Vaughn; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

Service was July 19 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Salem Cemetery in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

WILLIAM JACOB MUEHLBAUER

Grandfather of four

William Jacob Muehlbauer, 82, of Montevallo died Wednesday, July 14, 2004, in Montevallo.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth K. Muehlbauer of Montevallo; two daughters, Elizabeth V. Andrews of St. Louis, Mo., and Donna Marie Teague of Atlanta, Ga.; two sons, William L. Muehlbauer of Columbia, Tenn., and Gary R. Muehlbauer of Montevallo; and four grandchildren, Kenneth Andrews of St. Louis, Mo., Cory Muehlbauer of Columbia, Tenn., Justin Muehlbauer of Montevallo and Ethan Muehlbauer of Montevallo.

Service was July 17 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo, Father Ray Remke presiding. Burial followed at Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

The family requests memorial donations be made to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church Building Fund.

CHRISPEAN AUDRA THOMAS

Washington, D.C. native

Chrispean Audra Thomas, 34, of Alabaster died Tuesday, July 13, 2004. She was a native of Washington, D.C., and an employee of the Department of Transportation.

She is survived by her mother, Mary Louise Lacey; her father, Benson Thomas Jr., her brother and sisters, William Tolbert, Jacquelyn Samuels, Barbara Thomas and Machelle Ryan; and grandmother, Burdetta Thomas.

Service was July 17 at New Vision Christian Church in Calera, pastor Van C. Houser presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens, Westside Funeral Home directing.

ODIE SPENCER THOMPSON

Montevallo resident

Odie Spencer Thompson, 65, of Montevallo died Saturday, July 17, 2004, in Montevallo. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lora and Odie W. Thompson; his sisters, Edith Bailey, Naomi Selby and Pansy Beaty; and his brothers, Archie and Danny Thompson.

He is survived by his wife, LuAnn Connor Thompson of Montevallo; his daughter, Debra J. (Rick) Taylor of Norton, Va.; his son, Terry DeWayne (Amy) Thompson of Calera; his sister, Ruby (Glen) Hoover of Smyrna, Tenn.; three brothers, John W. (Joyce) Thompson of Alabaster, Eddie Earl Thompson of Billingsley and Royal W. (Patricia) Thompson of Billingsley; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Service will be today, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel, Brother Roger Willis and the Rev. John Ellington of Norton, Va., directing. Burial will follow in Shelby Memory Gardens in Calera, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

The family requests memorial donations be made to either the Shelby County Humane Society, the American Cancer Society or Comfort Care Hospice.

MARY DALE BARRETT

Born in Mississippi

Mary Dale Barrett, 78, of Montevallo died July 28, 2004 in Montevallo. She was born Oct. 24, 1925 in Mississippi.

Barrett is survived by her children, Lynda Anderson of Montevallo, Shirley Barrett of Calera, William E. Barrett Jr. of Birmingham, Dr. John Douglas Barrett of Florence; and grandchildren, Theresa (Wesley) Anderson Gibson and Travis L. Anderson.

Service was July 31 at Shelby Memory Garden Chapel with the Rev. Bart Kingsley presiding. Burial followed in Shelby Memory Gardens, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.

MRS. BOYD BRASHER

Homemaker

Mrs. Boyd Brasher, 69, of Pelham died July 24, 2004. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris R. Brasher. Brasher was a member of Pelham First United Methodist Church, a member of UMW and a homemaker.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Alice Dennis; brother, Bill T. (Pat) Brasher; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Service was July 26 from the Chapel at Southern Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Ron Schultz presiding, Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home directing.

LOIS GREEN BRANTLEY

Grandmother and great-grandmother

Lois Green Brantley, 81, of Montevallo died July 28.

She was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Montevallo where she served as a deaconess and on the Missionary Society. She was also a devoted member of Harris Pride 437 OES.

Brantley is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Willie "Will" Brantley Sr.; loving children, Freddie Brantley, Fannie (Lester) Bailey, Annie (Edwin) Smith, Eddie Peal Robinson, Betty (Jerome) Edwards, Barbara Henderson, Evelyn Mitchell, Carmen (Tony) Hale, Sandra Campbell, and Willie (Martha) Brantley Jr.; 26 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

Service of Memory was held Aug. 3 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Dr. Rogers L. White presiding. Burial followed in Montevallo Cemetery, Westside Funeral Home, Calera directing.

WILLIE JAYE BOOTHE

Maylene resident

Willie Jaye Boothe, 76, of Maylene died July 30, 2004, in Alabaster. She is survived by her husband, Jeff Boothe of Maylene; one sister, Lula Mae Reed of Jasper; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Service was Aug. 3 at Rockco's Funeral Home Chapel in Montgomery, the Rev. Waymond Strickland and Bobby Alexander presiding. Burial followed in Ryan's Cemetery in Maylene, Rockco's directing.

CHARLES WILLARD BYERS

Kentucky native

Charles Willard Byers, 81, of Columbiana died July 28, 2004 at his home. He was born April 14, 1923, in Rockford, Ky., and was preceded in death by his parents, William and Cora B. Byers and two brothers, Wenfrey R. and William Jr. Byers.

Byers is survived by his wife, Leatha Byers; children, Anita Byers, Pat Ponder, Simon Presley (Beth) Byers; grandchildren, Tommy Ponder, Felicia Ponder, Dee Dee White and Renee Byers.

Graveside service was July 30 at Columbiana City Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Miller and the Rev. David Warren presiding, Bolton-Letlow Funeral Home directing.
