Claude J. Peacock

Oct. 13, 2003

Mr. Claude J. Peacock, 93, of Enterprise and formerly of Atmore (Little Rock Community), died Monday in Enterprise after an extended illness. He was born May 7, 1910 in Litttle Rock and was a resident of Atmore until moving to Enterprise in May 2003. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Atmore, and was the owner of Peacock-Atmore Barber Shop for many years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Inez C. Peacock of Enterprise; one son, Don Peacock of Enterprise; three grandchildren, Cynthia Curenton, Bryan Peacock and Stacey Peacock; four great-grandchildren, Aaron, Ashley and Adam Curenton, and Hunter Peacock; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Becks officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Cemetery in Little Rock with Patterson-Sorrells Funeral Home directing.

Carless Herman Meadows

Oct. 12, 2003

Mr. Carless Herman Meadows, 81, of Walnut Hill died Sunday. He was a retired farmer, born in Lottie on Aug. 23, 1922 to the late Guy and Elberta Brown Meadows. He was known in the community as an outstanding farmer and served on the board of the Farmer's Home Administration for 15 years and was also a member of the board of the Atmore Truckers Co-op. He was married for 61 years. He was a song director and taught Sunday school at the Atmore Baptist Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Betty B. Meadows, and a daughter, Sheila Meadows Bass, both of Walnut Hill; two sisters, Elsie May Powell of Cantonment and Elmer Lee Nall of Saraland; two grandchildren, Wade Williams and wife Angela and Windy Sapp and husband Tim, all of Walnut Hill; five great-grandchildren, Bailey Lohr, Weston Williams, Lauran Sapp, Austin Sapp and Tiffany Herrington.

Services were held Tuesday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. C.L. Langford officiating. Burial followed in the Godwin Cemetery in Bratt. All arrangements by Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Anne Floyd Dunn

Oct.10, 2003

Ms. Anne Floyd Dunn, 63, of Tupelo, Miss. died Friday at her residence in Tupelo after lengthy illness. She was born July 18, 1940 in Opp and graduated high school in Evergreen. After receiving a bachelor's degree Magna Cum Laude from Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, she received a master's degree in nursing with honors from the University of Mississippi School of Nursing at the University Medical Center in Jackson. She was a longtime resident of Indianola, Miss. and served as a nursing instructor with Mississippi Delta Community College in Moorhead, Miss. for 27 years. She was also a medical adviser on medical malpractice cases for attorneys and insurance companies throughout Mississippi. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Indianola and was a past member of the Indianola Civic League, and various nursing organizations.

She is survived by two daughters, Selene Maddox of Tupelo, and Lisa Dunn of Franklin, Tenn.; one son, Greg Dunn of Demopolis; two sisters, Delanith Donelson of Chipley and Janice Malone of Blountstown, Fla; one brother, Billy Floyd of Pearlington, Miss.; two grandchildren, Brandi and Brooks Boutwell, both of Demopolis and a special caregiver, Sondra Webber of Tupelo.

Graveside services were held Monday in Oakhill Cemetery with Rev. Don Davis officiating. Memorials may be made to the Anne Dunn Nursing Scholarship Fund, Mississippi Delta Community College, P.O. Box 668, Moorhead, MS 38761.

W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements in Tupelo. Eastside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Atmore.

Clara R. Rolin

Oct. 10, 2003

Mrs. Clara R. Rolin, 85, a lifelong resident of the Poarch Community, died Friday. She was a homemaker. A member of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, she was born April 14, 1918 to the late Ollie and Luvader Rolin. She was a member of the Mennonite Christian Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryant Rolin; stepchildren, Ella Snider and Eugene Buster Rolin; brothers Rob Rolin, Judge Rolin, Jack Rolin, Albert Rolin and Ruben 'Buddy' Rolin; sisters Merle Shirley, Ollie Mae McGhee, and Alma Toole. She is survived by a foster daughter, Gerry Gunn and a sister, Reva Rolin McGhee, both of Atmore, thirteen step-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services were held Monday at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Weber and Bro. William 'Bubba' Rolin officiating. Burial followed in the Judson Cemetery at Poarch. Johnson-Quimby in charge of all arrangements.

Rose C. James

Oct. 9, 2003

Mrs. Rose C. James, 73, of Lampasas, Texas, died Thursday at Scott and White Hospital in Lampasas. Mrs. James was co-owner of the Triangle Motel in Lampasas, born Aug. 30, 1930 in Manilla, Phillipines. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy E. James. She is survived by one daughter, Ruby Bigham of Lampasas; two stepdaughters, Scarlet Coulson of Lewisville, Texas, and Jeanna Witt of Key Largo, Fla; eight grandchildren, Teddy Limoz, Ricky Hodge, Lisa Butts, Regina Muse, Clint Coulson, Kelli Coulson, Josh Witt and Jake Witt; four-great grandchildren, Morgan Savage, Ethan Muse, Klein Muse and Tiana Limoz; and one sister who lives in the Phillipines.

Graveside services will be held today at the James Family Cemetery in Bay Minette with the Rev. Ray Bundy officiating. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ronald McDonald House, 2415 South 47th Street, Temple, Texas 76504.

Jewel Esther McArthur

Oct. 7, 2003

Mrs. Jewel Esther McArthur, 78, of Pensacola died Tuesday. A native of Frisco City, she was born Sept. 1, 1925 to the late William Morris and Minnie Lee Biggs Hendrix. She was a homemaker and a past member of the Shiloh Primitive Baptist Church. 'Miss Jewel' always welcomed friends and family on her porch, surrounded by her flowers, displaying her love of gardening, and into her home for a table full of good old Southern cooking.

She is preceded in death by her husband Chester McArthur; a son, Kenneth McArthur; two daughters and a grandson, Jaison McArthur.

She is survived by three sons, Wayne and wife Bealuh McArthur of Elkmont; Hollis and wife Julie McArthur and Jeffery and Marilyn McArthur, all of Pensacola; two brothers, Levon Hendrix of Evergreen and Burley Hendrix of Frisco City; one sister, Grace Horn of Opelika; 10 grandchildren; Lynn Mitchell, Sharon Cooper, Jennifer Cook, Adrianne White, Kyle McArthur, Corey McArthur, Lenora Hodgkinson, Michael Stone, China Smith and Derek McArthur; 19 great-grandchildren. Services were held Saturday from the Atmore Memorial Chapel with Rev. Levon Hendrix officiating. Burial followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Frisco City. Atmore Memorial Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.

Vonnie V. Johnson-Tedder, 75, of Century died Friday at Jay Hospital. She was born in Megargel and lived most of her life in Century, where she was a homemaker and member of The Gospel Light Temple.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Zelma Fields; a brother, Junior Fields and a grandson, Ollie Johnson.

She is survived by five sons, Lewis Johnson of Milton, Fla., Joseph Johnson of Bluff Springs, Fla., J.B. Johnson, Jr., of Byrneville, and Ollie Johnson and John Johnson, both of Century; one daughter, Rachel Kelly, of Houma, La.; one sister, Helen Clark of Wetumpka; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Elizabeth Johnson.

Services were held Monday at The Gospel Light Temple with Rev. Wallace Reid and Rev. Annie Wright officiating. Burial followed at Ray's Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ollie Johnson, Joe Johnson, John Johnson, J.B. Johnson, Jr., Lewis Johnson and Phillip Kennedy.

Flomaton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
