Edgar Thomas

Edgar Thomas, died on Friday, February 13, 2004, he was born, July 15, 1947 to the union of Ernest and Alma Craig Thomas. He graduated from the Escambia County Training School in 1965. Edgar later moved to Detroit, Mich. and was employed by Daimler Chrysler Corporation for 34 years until retirement.

He is survived by his parents, Ernest and Alma Thomas of Atmore; his wife, Corliss Thomas of Detroit; three sons, Gregory and Ericka Pressley of Jacksonville, Fla., Kevin Thomas of Detroit, Deondre Knight of Pensacola; two daughters, Kimberly Watkins of Jacksonville and Tamika and Lendell Thompson of Culver, Calif.; five granddaughters, Krystal, Andrea, Lauren, Asia and Mahal; two brothers, Floyd and Ruth Thomas of Ephrata, Pa., John Thomas of Atmore; two sisters, Ernestine Fountain of Pensacola, Annette and Julius Haston of Spanish Fort; one sister-in law, Phyliss and Roosevelt Cole of Detroit, Mich.; three aunts, four uncles, and a host of nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 2 p.m. at the Gillead Missionary Baptist Church. Burial was followed at Pierce's Cemetery with Rev. Alfonzia Willams officiating.

Marjorie Benton Emmons

Mrs. Majorie Benton Emmons, 74, died Thursday, February 19, 2004 at a Santa Rosa County Hospital.

Mrs. Emmons was a native of Mobile, a former resident of Fayette, Ala., and a resident of Century for the past 59 years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Emmons of Century; two sons, Larry Odell and Vicki Emmons of Augusta, Gra., and Thomas Earl and Shirley Emmons of Manford, Okla.; her daughter, Gwen and Mike Cole of St. Louis, Mo.; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday, February 22, 2004 at 3 p.m. at the Faith Bible Baptist Church in Bluff Springs, Fla., with Rev. Gene Stokes officiating.

Burial was followed at Flomaton Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Visitation were held Saturday, February 21, 2004 between 6 and 9 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Mike Hutto, Jeremy Bondurant, Phillip Blackwell, Marcus Godwin, Kenny Maher and Cliff Thompson.

Robert Shaw Turner

Mr. Robert Shaw Turner, Jr., 61, died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at a Mobile hospital.

Mr. Turner was a native of Uriah, a former resident of Frisco City and a resident of Goodway for the past ten years. He was loved by his family and friends and attended the Eliska Holiness Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Tollison.

He is survived by his wife, Mattie Turner of Goodway; four daughters, Peggy and Dale Felts of Excel, Bobbie Turner of Goodway, Christie and Heath Johnson of Mexia and Nicole and Bryan Hill of Mineola; a brother, Doug Turner of Eliska; a sister, Melba Lovitte of Excel; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Bro. Angelo Thomley and Bro. Buddy Williams officiating. Burial was followed at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Visitation were held Friday, February 20, 2004 between 6 and 9 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Tim Casey, Jimmy Strokes, Frank Cronier, Larry Seals, Henry Cook, Coalyn Norris, Matthew Casey and Woody Reed. Honorary pallbearers were Excel Fire Department.

David Kern Stallworth, Sr.

David Kern Stallworth, Sr. died Friday, February 20, 2004 at the age of 66. Descended from a pioneer Alabama family, Mr. Stallworth was born January 24, 1938 in Monroeville. He attended Monroeville schools and was graduated from Marion Military Institute. He attended Auburn University before joining his father in business in 1959. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. After joining Monroe Oil Company, Later Southern Energy Company, Mr. Stallworth was active in a number of business and professional organizations, including the Alabama-Mississippi Oil Jobbers Association, which he served as president. He was also involved with the Southeastern LP Gas Association and the Associated Industries of Alabama. Mr. Stallworth was active with the American Red Cross in the Monroeville area and with his church St. John's Episcopal, where he served as senior warden in 1977. Mr. Stallworth is preceded in death by his mother and father, Elizabeth Kern "Beck" and B.H. "Buster" Stallworth as well as his older brother Blanchard Houston Stallworth, III.

He is survived by three children, Dr. David Kern and Spence Stallworth, Jefferson Beeland and Betsy Stallworth of Auburn and Nancy Elizabeth Stallworth Weiss of Tampa, Fla.; six grandchildren, Lee Houston Fields Stallworth, all of Monroeville and Jefferson Grant Stallworth and Ruth Elizabeth Stallworth of Auburn; a devoted companion, Anita Daniels of Perdido.

The family received visitors on Monday, February 23rd in the parish hall at St. John's Episcopal Church in Monroeville from 1:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. followed by a memorial service in the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Monroe County Hospital Garden Fund, the Monroe County Library, Auburn University of St. John's Episcopal Church. Johnson funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John Wesley Holder Sr.

John Wesley Holder Sr., 75, of Huntsville died on Monday, February 23, 2004 at home while under the loving care of his family.

Born in Uriah, Mr. Holder led an honorable and generous life. He traveled the world upon joining the merchant Marines during World War II at the age of 16. He served his country in the armed services and worked for Ampex Corporation as regional sales manager. For the past 25 years he was a successful independent business owner in the computer storage industry.

He is survived by his wife, Ellen Holder; daughter, Betty and Chandler Hall; son, John and Tamara Holder Jr. of Covington, Gra.; grandchildren, Whitney Newsom, Noelle Holder and Katherine Hall; brothers, Alex and Martha Holder of Perdido Key, Fla. and Jim and Lois of Orange Beach; sisters, Nell Holder of Mesa, Ariz., Helen Day and William McKenzie of Monroeville and Vera and Charles Lindauer of Theodore; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2004 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. There will be a viewing at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore at 2 p.m. Friday, February 27, 2004. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery in Atmore.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care or Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Aubrey Ray Harrell

Mr. Aubrey Ray Harrell Sr., 69, died Tuesday, February 10, 2004 in Canoe.

Mr. Harrell was a native of Castleberry and lived in Canoe most of his life. He was the owner of Quality Fence Company in Canoe, a Drywall Contractor in Milton, a member and Past Master of Pace Masonic Lodge #349, a member and Past Master of Northwest Masonic Lodge #351, a member of Carney Lodge #549 of Atmore, the Scottish Rite, the Hadj Shrine and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Navy.

He was preceded in death by his Father, A.T. Harrell and a son, Donald Barnes.

Mr. HArrell is survived by his wife, Sylvia Harrell of Canoe; his mother, Allie D. Harrell of Canoe; four sons, Daryl Ray Harrell of Pensacola, William Thomas Harrell of Atmore, Jeffrey Ray Harrell of Canoe and Aubrey Ray Harrell Jr. of Canoe; four daughters, Rose Marie Wise of McCullough, Susan Diane Rowell of Monroeville, Brenda Renee Harrell of Canoe, Sharon Kay Murell of Titusville, Fla.; two brothers, Henry Harrell of Milton and Marvin Harrell of Canoe; two sisters, Marie Dodson of Panama City and Patricia Smith of Sweetwater, Ala..; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and his first wife and mother of his first four children, Barbara Hardy Harrell of Pensacola.

Funeral services were held Friday, February 13, 2004 at 2p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Larry Smith, Mr. Ronnie Price and Mr. Kenneth Baggett officiating. Burial followed at Canoe Freewill Cemetery.

Mr. Buren Thomas Ruth

Mr. Burren Thomas (B.T.) Ruth, died Wednesday, February 11, 2003, at River Region Medical Center.

He was 86 years old. Born in Houlka, Miss., he had been a resident of Vicksburg, Miss. for 61 years.

Mr. Ruth was the son of the late A.D. and Edna Thomas Ruth. He was employed as a timber buyer at Kings Stave Company from 1944-1952 and from 1952-1970 as a mill manager and timber buyer at Vicksburg Hardwood Company. He was a member of the W.G. Paxton Masonic Lodge and served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Northside Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church a ndwas a member and deacon of Highland Baptist Church for the past 36 years.

He is survived by his 2 daughters: Dean Ruth Haven of Duncanville, Texas and Evelyn Ruth Bilbo of Atmore; 5 grandchildren: Robert Dean Havor of Duncanville, Texas, Randy DeWayne Haver of Wylie, Texas, Carol Bilbo Clark of Chattanooga, Tenn., Deborah Bilbo Chastain of Greeley, Colo and David Lanier Bilbo of Norfolk, Va.; seven great grandchildren; two sisters: Lavelle R. Haggard of Mobile and Velma R. Hooks of Louisville, Miss.: and a brother, Charles Ruth of Longview Wash. His wife, Hilda Cockrell Ruth; Daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Ruth; three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday from Riles Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Ivey, Pastor of Highland Baptist Church, Officiating. Burial was at Cedar Hill Cemetary.

Jonathan Russell White

Mr. Jonathan Russell White, age 22 of Atmore died Tuesday February 10, 2004 in Pensacola,. He was a laborer for a landscaping company He was born in Mobile on October 25, 1981 to William and Brenda Bumpers White and was a graduate of Escambia County High School.

He is survived by his father, William White, his mother, Brenda White and his sister Joanna White all of Atmore and his grandmother, Thera Mae Bumpers of Coffeeville, Ala.

Services were held Friday, February 13, 2004 at 11a.m. at First Baptist Church of Atmore. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Johnson-Quimby Fueral Home, INC was charge of all arrangements.

Carol Ann Giddens

Mrs. Carol Ann Giddens, 64, died Monday, February 16, 2004, in Atmore.

Mrs. Giddens was a native of Port St. Joe, Fla. and a resident of Atmore for the past 44 years. She attended Atmore First Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her father, R.O. "Pete" Roberts, her mother, Verna Lee Roberts and her brother, Charles Roberts.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Robert "Bob" and Rose Giddens of Silver Hill; one great-grandchild, Sara Rolin of Atmore; two sisters-in-law: Betty Hutchison of Montgomery and Barbara Jones of Atmore; her mother-in-law, Mary Giddens of Atmore; and two special cousins: Olivia Bryan of Atmore and Claudette Nix of Bay Minette.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 19 at 10 a.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. J.D. Renfroe officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 18 between 5:30 and 9:00 p.m. at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.
