Darcy Jo Rhoades

Darcy Jo (Jodi) Rhoades, 39, of Atmore died Friday, April 2, 2004 at her home. Mrs. Rhoades was a home maker. Her parents were Dick and Emma Jo Harrison.

She is survived by her husband, Johnnie Rhoades; son, Johnnie Edward Rhoades of Atmore; daughter, Sarah Beth Rhoades of Atmore: brother, Danny Presley of Brewton.

Funeral services were Monday, April 5, 2004 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home with Bro. Terry Smith officiating. Burial followed at the Steadham Cemetery.

Melba Boone

Ms. Melba Jeanette Boone, 71, died Sunday, April 4, 2004 in Nokomis. Ms. Boone was a native of Little River, a former resident of Palmyra, Va., and a resident of Atmore for the past seven years. She was the second child of 14 and a mother figure to her family. She was a former employee of VF in Monsanto and was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Ann Pinter.

She is survived by seven brothers, Clayton Boone of Little River, George Boone of Atmore, Bernard Boone, Jr. of Charlottesville, Va., Kenneth David Boone, Leroy Boone, John Daniel Boone, and Joseph Michael Boone all of Little River; five sisters, Alma Woods of Atmore, Martha Holder of Pensacola, Donna Harry of Charlottesville, June Katherine Godwin of Little River and Delilah Jean Denzio of Palymira, Va.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004 at 10 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Mamie's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, April 9, 2004 between 6 and 9 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home.

Eastside Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frances Turk Coon

Mrs. Frances Turk Coon, 86, of McCullough died Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at her residence.

She was a homemaker and was born in Monroe County on November 2, 1917, to the late William Allen and Sally Rebecca Turk.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Alvin Coon; one grandson, Brad Myrick; one sister, Bernice Lassitter and two brothers, William Allen Turk and Douglas Turk.

She is survived by two sons, James Hoyt and Sarah Coon of Atmore and William Larry and Jennifer Coon of Greenville; four daughters, Dale C. Fiveash, Sharlett and Fred Peevy all of Atmore, Thelma and Wayne Price of Pulaske, Tenn., and Jessie and Tobon Myrick of Goodway; two sisters, Susie Drew of Bay Minette and Billie Catherine Middleton of Stapleton; 16 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday, April 9 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Pete Coon and Clergy Clint Peevy officiating.

Burial followed at McCullough Cemetery.

Donations may be made to Covenant Hospice, Inc. 6475 Van Buren Street Suite 201 Daphne, Al 36265.

Joel Lewis

Joel Lewis, 55, of Atmore died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital in Brewton.

Robinson and Christian Memorial Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Lou Booze

Mrs. Minnie Lou Booze, 89, of Ocala. formerly of Stockton, died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Ocala. Services to be announced by the Turner Funeral Chapel.

Dorothy Louise Daniels

Mrs. Dorothy Louise Daniels, 80, of Atmore died Friday, April 9, 2004, in Atmore.

She was a supervisor with Vanity Fair Mills. She was born in Castleberry on September 11, 1923 to the late William B. and Ralphia Waters Crawford.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Seth and Sarah McCurdy and a brother, Buddy Crawford.

She is survived by her husband, Murray Daniels of Atmore; a son, Richard and Rhonda Daniels of Atmore; a daughter, Deborah and Frederich Matthieu of Monroeville; three grandchildren, Matthew Daniels, Timothy Daniels and Freddie R. Matthieu; numerous relatives and friends.

Services were held Monday, April 12 at 10 a.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cornelius Phillips officiating.

Burial followed at Huxford Baptist Cemetery.

William F. "Bill" Farr

Mr. William F. "Bill" Farr, 69, of Atmore died Monday, April 12, 2004, in Pensacola. He was retired from the textile industry as a Plant Manger and a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was born on February 6, 1935 in Knox County, Tenn.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kinney Farr of Atmore; son, Billy and Linda Farr of Atmore; daughter, Sandy Farr of Monroeville; two brothers, Frank Turner of Atlanta and Charles Turner of S.C.; sister, Susan Turner of Tenn.; four grandchildren, Ryan and Lauren Farr, Brandon and Shane Whitehead; three great-grandchildren, Colton, Raylin, and Karmen; brother's and sister's in-law, Beverly and Lex Kaechele of Elberta, Betty and Felton Hastings of Cary, N.C., Ken and Virginia Kinney of Silverhill.

Services will be Thursday, April 15 at 10 a.m. from Brooks Memorial Baptist Church with Bro. Mike Grindle officiating.Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Cereal Daniel, Aubrey Till, Jack Sharpless, Toby Sellers, Joe Brantley, Monroe Womack, Tim Currie, and Steve Lancaster. Honorary will be Deacon's of Brooks Memorial Baptist Church and Leon Strength.

Family will receive friends Wednesday evening April 14, 2004 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Mr. Farr will lie in state at the church one hour prior to service time.

Joel Lewis

Mr. Joel Lewis died Thursday, April 8, 2004, at D.W. McMillian Hospital in Brewton. Mr. Lewis was born on October 14, 1948 to Mr. William Lewis Sr. and the late Lucille Lewis.

He is preceded in death by brother, Willie Frank Lewis; nephew and great niece.

He is survived by his father, Mr. William Lewis Sr.; wife, Mae Charles Lewis; three children, Joel Ma Lewis Jr., Betty Lewis, and Charles Lewis; two step children, Lester L. Crenshaw and Vanessa Cannon all of Atmore; three grandchildren; seven brothers, Jack and Easter Lewis of Valdosta, Gra., William and Wyonna Lewis, Marcus and Joann Lewis Sr., James and Gennie Lewis Sr., Gary Lewis, Jack and Scotty Lewis of Atmore; five sisters, Minnie and Willie Knights, Betty J. Lewis, Earnestine and Rodney Harris all of Mattapan, Mass., Alice and Susie Lewis both of Pensacola; aunt, Lillie Mae Lambert; uncle, Arch Hall of Detroit, Mich.; special friends, Mary Alice Shavers and family, Alvin and Mechelle Johnson; host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Services will be Thursday, April 15, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. from New Pleasant Hill Full Gospel Baptist Church with Louis Banks officiating. Interment will follow at Stallworth Cemetery. Viewing will be Wednesday, April 14, 2004 from noon to 6 p.m. at Robinson Christian Memorial Funeral Home. Family hour will be 6 to 7 p.m.

Cecil Ferral Neal

Cecil Ferral Neal, 85, died Sunday, April 11, 2004. Mr. Neal was a native of McCullough and resided in Atmore. He worked as a farmer and trucker, and was a member of Presley Street Baptist Church.

He is survived his wife of 65 years, Minnie Lee Neal; a son, Howard and Joyce Neal of Excel; a daughter, Cecilia and Ellie Bailey of Atmore; four grandchildren, Scott Neal, Mark Neal, LeAnne B. Brantley, and Susan B. Hetzel; nine great-grandchildren, Brandon and Lauren Neal, Ashley and Adam Neal, Katie, Tom, and Sam Brantley, NoraBeth and Ellie Frances Hetzel.

Pall bearers were Thomas Brantley, Matthew Hetzel, Raymond Kimmons, Leo Luker, Frank Moxness, and Byron Tims.

Services were held April 13, 2004 at Johnson Quimby Funeral Home with Rev. Otis Thames and Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Burial was held at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Franklin Sylvester "Sly" Blanton

Dr. Franklin Sylvester "Syl" Blanton, 101, of Gainesville died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at his home.

Dr. Blanton was born in Jones Mill, Ala. and moved to Gainesville from New York in 1956. He was a retired medical entomologist and professor emeritus at the University of Florida. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. He is preceded in death by a son, Franklin Thomas Blanton.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Q. Blanton of Gainesville; daughters, Virginia Griffin of Hendersonville, N.C. and Martha Tisdale of Gainesville; sister, Hazel Jones of Atmore; ten grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, April 17, 2004 at 1 p.m. at Williams-Thomas Chapel with Rev. Steve McCollum conducting the service. Burial will be private at Memorial Park East, Gainesville. In lieu of flowers to Hospice of North Central Florida, 4200 NW 90th Blvd., Gainesville, Fl 32605.
