David Brown

Mr. David Brown died Tuesday, April 27, 2004. Mr. Brown was born to the late Henry and Ida Mae Brown of Elmore on August 13, 1911. He was employed by Daniel Construction of Ensley for 35 years. He was a Deacon at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Geraldine Brown; one son, Willie David Brown; five sisters and five brothers.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Mary and James Arnold of Kinston, N.C., Mrs. Patricia Poole of Atmore, and Mrs. Jackie Coleman of New York City; three adopted children, Mrs. Almatine Abston of Ocean Spring, Miss., Mr. Henry Lewis and Bobby Nell Brown of Mobile; one sister, Mrs. Ida Mae Coleman of Gaston; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great-grandchildren; host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends; three special God-children, Mr. Johnnie Jones, Geraldine McCants, and Mrs. Bertha L. Redman.

Services were Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hayles, Pastor and Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery.

Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eddie Sills

Eddie Mae Sills died Wednesday, April 28, 2004. Mrs. Sills was born to the late William Sheppard and Mrs. Mary Elia Sheppard in Elmore on February 10, 1917. She was a member of Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church and of Thomas and Triumph Gospel Choir. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Rufus McMillan and Willie Seals; five sisters and five brothers.

She is survived by one stepson, Joe and Dorothy McMillian of Atmore; three step-grandchildren; close friend, Gladys; devoted niece, Rita and Reginald Williams; host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Services were Saturday, May 1, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Second Mt. Triumph Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Hayles, Pastor and Rev. Charles Johnson officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers were the nephews.

Robinson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

George Taylor Faircloth

Mr. George Taylor Faircloth, 78, of Atmore died Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at his residence. He was born in Escambia County on November 2, 1925 to the late Mack Edward and Bessie Taylor Faircloth Sr.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Mack Edward Faircloth Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy V. Faircloth of Atmore; two daughters, Vickers Faircloth and Walter Smith of Northport, Keron Faircloth and James Kyzar of Andalusia; one brother, Robert W. Faircloth; three grandchildren, James Hugh Kyzar IV, Walter Hamiter and Julie Smith Jr., Laura Smith and Alex King; one great-grandson, Walter Hamiter Smith III.

Services were held Friday, May 7 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Newton officiating.

Burial followed at Oak Hill cemetery.

Active pallbearers were, John Garrard, Dicky Dickinson, Tom Kelly, Giles Chapman, Robert Faircloth Jr., Buck Powell, Jim VanPelt, and George VanPelt. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Ben Maxwell, John Perkins, Charles W. Smith Sr., James H. Hyzar Jr., and First United Methodist Mens Bible Class and Mens Club.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be given to United Methodist Children's Home, P.O. Box 803 Selma, Ala. 36702-9900, The First United Methodist Church of Atmore, Building Fund, 311 South Pensacola Ave. Atmore, Ala. 36502, or Blue Lake United Methodist Assembly 8500 Oakwood Lane Andalusia, Ala. 36420.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Inc.was in charge of arrangements.

Lou Emma Hale

Mrs. Lou Emma Hale, 102, died Friday, April 30, 2004. She was a native of Lowndes and a resident of Century. She was the oldest member of Pilgram Lodge Baptist Church. She was a member of the choir and served on the usher board.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Will Hale; daughter, Minnie Williams.

She is survived by six daughters, Claudie Hale, Lillie Hale both of Farmersville; Lucille Hunter, Annie Ewing, Willie Nell and Elmer Lowe all of Century, Rosie Hale of Albion; two sons, Roy and Rosie Hale and Rosevelt and Ruth Hale all of Century; one sister, Lucillie Hale of Farmersville; 53 grandchildren;101 great-grandchildren and a host of great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday, May 8, at noon at Pilgrim Lodge Baptist Church in Century with Pastor Leanord Watson Jr. officiating.

Burial followed at Century Cemetery.

Turner Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Elizabeth Tekulve Hoehn

Mrs. Frances Elizabeth Tekulve Hoehn, 90, of Atmore died Wednesday, May 5, 2004 in Atmore. She was a resident of Atmore for the past 64 years. She was a sales lady with The Greater Fair. She was born in Cullman on February 20, 1914 to the late John Bernard and Mary T. Popp Tekulve.

She is survived by three daughters, Helene and Dr. John S. Taylor of Fairhope, Ann and William T. "Bill" Staff of Atmore, Barbara Jean and Willie Roberts of Bay Minette; twelve grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, May 8 at 10 a.m. from the St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church with the Rev. Jan Zagorski officiating.

Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Speer Yearwood Staff, Tommy Allen Mixon, John Allen Mixon, Timothy Richard Mixon, William Joseph Taylor, and Mark McGill. Honorary will be William Theodore Staff Jr. and John S. Taylor Jr.

Mary Evelyn Smith Biggs

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Smith Biggs, 96, of Lottie died Friday, May 14, 2004 at her residence.

She was born in Perdido on January 18, 1908 to the late William Thomas "Doc" and Clara Evelyn Levins Smith.

She was a retired school teacher. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Biggs; oldest son, John Leon Biggs; one brother, Thomas Franklin Smith; two sisters, Clara Ann Smith and Vivian Smith Little.

She is survived by three sons, Charles William Biggs of Warrington, Benny Dale Biggs of Lottie and Henry Derwood Biggs of Stapleton; one daughter, Evelyn Ann Biggs Williams of Brewton; two sisters, Willie Mae Smith Snyder of Saraland and Edna Smith Chambless of Bay Minette; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be Sunday, May 16, 2004 at 2 p.m. from the Lottie United Methodist Church with Dr. Will Baker officiating.

Interment will follow in Lottie United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Biggs will lie in state at the Church one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, donations maybe made to the Lottie Methodist Church Cemetery Fund of Lottie or United Methodist Children's Home.

James Allen Burklund

Mr. James Allen Burklund, 40, of Atmore died on Thursday, May 13, 2004 at his residence.

Mr. Burklund was a shop foreman in the tire industry. His parents were Carl and Donna Burklund. Mr. Burklund was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Burklund.

He is survived by his father, Carl Burklund of Davisville; one sister, Leisa Boyette of Atmore; one niece; one nephew; other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 17, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Paul Enfinger officiating.

Burial will follow at the Pine Barron Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday at Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.

Atmore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Emily Vernel "Mellie" Dorriety

Mrs. Emily Vernel "Mellie" Dorriety, 94, of Atmore died Tuesday, May 11, 2004 in Pensacola.

She was born in Escambia County, Ala. on July 4, 1909 to the late William Henry and Willie Anna Ashcraft Dorriety. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Services were Thursday, May 13, 2004 at 2 p.m. from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Lucas officiating.

Interment followed in Huxford Baptist Cemetery.

Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in charge of all arrangements.
