Bruce E. Lowery
BRATT, Fla. - Mr. Bruce E. Lowery, 47, of Bratt, Fla. passed away Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010 at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola, Fla.
Bruce was born in Atmore and was a native of Bratt, Fla. He was employed with the City of Atmore as a Code Enforcement Officer. Bruce was a 1987 graduate of Auburn University. He was also a 1981 graduate of Ernest Ward High School where he played on the 1979 state championship football team. He was a member of Saint Luke Methodist Church in Pensacola, Fla., a lifetime member of the Bream Fisherman Association in Pensacola, Fla. and a long-serving member of the Northeast Pensacola Youth Baseball Association board of directors.
Survivors include his wife, Julie Van Pelt Lowery; two sons, Bradley Lowery and Michael Lowery; a daughter, Jessica Lowery; parents, Charles A. and Reita Lowery; two sisters, Sandra (Sammy) Day and Robin (Todd) Parker; one brother, Alan (Becky) Lowery; nieces and nephews include Kelly (Jason) Gurganus, Natalie Day, Jake Lowery, Cody Parker, Austin Lowery and Dustin Parker; great nephew and niece Zane and Ava Gurganus and brother at heart, Mike Digmon.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home in Atmore. On Tuesday Oct. 5, 2010, he will lie in state at the First United Methodist Church located in Atmore on Pensacola Avenue from 10 a.m. until the funeral service at 11 a.m.
Pallbearers will be nephews, Jake Lowery, Austin Lowery, Cody Parker, Dustin Parker, Jason Gurganus and Nicholas Drew.
Honorary pallbearers include, Mr. Greg Robbins, Mr. Barney Lowery, Mr. Marion Cooper, Dr. Rick Ledkins, Dr. Bill Hixson, Mr. Bill Smith, Mr. Horace Ward, Mr. Byron Vaughn, Mr. Todd Wiggins, Mr. John Johnson, Mayor Howard Shell, Ms. Becca Smith, Ms. Nina Downing, Ms. Celia Lambert, Ms. Mary Carter, Mr. Chris Black, Mr. Milford Lassiter, Mr. Chris Pruitt, Ms. Adel Skipper, Mr. Billy Smith Jr. and Mr. Malford Gainey.

Peggy Joyce Jefferies
ATMORE - Peggy Joyce Jefferies, 66, of Atmore died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2010 in Pensacola, Fla.
Mrs. Jefferies was a homemaker, born in Atmore on Jan. 21, 1944 to John Raymond and Gladys Drew Criswell. She was a member of Unity Baptist Church.
Her father, John Raymond Criswell, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph L. Jefferies, of Atmore; mother, Gladys Solomon, of Bay Minette; two daughters, Tammy Presley and husband, Chuck, of Flomaton and Sandra Salter and husband, John, of Newnan, Ga.; two brothers, Ronnie Criswell, of Bay Minette and Donnie Criswell, of Picayune, Miss.; one sister, Pat Lamb, of Bay Minette; five grandchildren, Blake, Madison and Ashtyn Presley and Bryan and Jessica Salter.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Floyd Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until service time on Friday, Oct. 1, 2010 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

William McCrory
MOBILE - William Ben (Bennie) McCrory, 75, a native of Excel, and a longtime resident of Mobile, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010.
Mr. McCrory began his career at the age of 17 at Johnson Funeral Home in Monroeville. He had served a total of 58 years as a licensed funeral director, embalmer in Alabama. During this time, he served many families in the Mobile area. He was a Mason in the Loop Lodge in Mobile where he received his 50-year pin.
His wife, Glenn S. McCrory, preceded Mr. McCrory in death.
Survivors include his son, Mark A. McCrory and his wife, Roxanne, of Daphne; two grandchildren, Jason McCrory of Daphne and Melissa McCrory of Mobile; two nieces; one nephew and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. from Excel Baptist Church in Excel on Tuesday, Sept. 28.
The family will receive friends from noon until 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010 at the church. Burial will be in Excel Cemetery in Excel.

Mack Gulley
MOBILE - Mack (Bay) Gulley, 76, a resident of Mobile and a native of Atmore died Friday, Sept. 17, 2010 at Mobile Infirmary.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at Christian Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Sept. 24, 2010 at the Funeral Home Chapel.

Wilburn J. Macks
ATMORE - Wilburn J. “Sponie” Macks, 86, of Atmore died Monday, Nov. 29, 2010 in Atmore.
He was retired from St. Regis Paper Co. as an inspector, born in Conecuh County on Feb. 22, 1924 to the late Jim and Minnie Roland Macks. He was a WWII veteran and attended the First Assembly of God Church of Atmore.
A brother, Earnest Macks and two sisters, Mattie Lou Flowers and Ale Mae Bradford, preceded him in death.
Survivors include two daughters, JoAnn Martin and Sue Gephart, both of Atmore; three grandchildren, Chris Smith, Kellie Lane and Stephanie Rosenbuam; eight great grandchildren and a very best friend, Grover Barnes, of Atmore.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Interment will follow in Deer Range Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Greg Martin, Chris Smith, John Nettles, Leslie Barnes, Brandon Smith and Shawn Lassiter.

Dr. Robert Ray Bradford
NEW YORK, NY. - Dr. Robert Ray Bradford passed peacefully at home on Sept. 1, 2010. Born in 1939, he was the second of eight children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Aquilla Alexander Bradford Sr. of Vredenburgh.
Dr. Bradford graduated as valedictorian of Escambia County Training School in Atmore. The following school year, the newly established honor society was named the Robert R. Bradford Honor Society. He earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University where he served as president of the Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society, president of his graduating class and Polemarch of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He earned his master’s and doctorate degrees in agronomy from Pennsylvania State University.
On Aug. 14, 1982, he was joined in holy matrimony to his beloved wife, Sonya Lena Howell Bradford.
He was an active and faithful member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, member of the Bethel Empowerment Foundation, married couples’ Sunday school class and the Bethel Retirement Ministry.
Dr. Bradford’s exemplary professional career included, but not limited to: associate professor, department chair and associate dean of agriculture at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University in Huntsville. He later moved with his family to Washington, D.C. and became Deputy Director in the United States Department of Agriculture. It was there that he became the first Director of the District of Columbia Agricultural Experimental Station.
In 1981, Bradford received a joint appointment with Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University and University of Florida as professor and director of the Center for Cooperative Agricultural Programs. The Center became a model for coordination of state agricultural programs. In 1987, he became Associate Dean for Agriculture at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University. He was later named Dean of the College of Engineering Science, Technology and Agriculture. From 1998-2006, Dr. Bradford served as Center Director for the Water Quality Program. He retired as Professor Emeritus in 2006.
Dr. Bradford’s Professional/Community involvement included, but not limited to: Outstanding alumni Award of Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University; Dean’s Outstanding Administrator Award; Kappa Alpha Psi Man of the Year-1987; Professor Emeritus at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University; member of Tallahassee Urban League, Inc.; Chairman of Council of 1890 Deans and Directors of Agriculture; fifty years of membership in Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity - 2010; and honored by Tallahassee Community College in the 2010 African-American History Calendar.
His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Aquilla Bradford Sr. and his brother, Walter L. Bradford, preceded him death. Dr. Bradford leaves to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Sonya Howell Bradford; three sons, Patrick A. Bradford of New York, N.Y., Robert T. Bradford of Woodbine, Md. and Sean S. Gilliam of Tallahassee, Fla.; one daughter, Jennifer E. Bradford of Silver Spring, Md.; three sisters, Gola (McKinley) Dailey, Betty Stewart and Dorita (Roger) Purifory, all of Atmore; three brothers, James (Sarah) Bradford of Spring, Texas and Aquilla (Brunetta) Bradford Jr. and Charles Bradford, both of Atmore; aunt-in-law, Lucille C. Alexander of Tallahassee, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Carmen Howell Ferguson of Atlanta, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. The family received visitors from 5:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the wake on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at Strong & Jones Funeral Home. Memorial services of the Tallahassee Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity will followed the wake from 6:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.
Elsie Hardee Nall
ATMORE - Elsie Hardee Nall, 90, of Atmore died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010 in Atmore.
She was a homemaker, born in Escambia County, Ala. on April 21, 1920 to the late Rufus Z. and Pauline Purvis Hardee. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atmore, a senior choir member, a member of the Escambia County Home Demonstration Club and a member of the Joy Riders.
Her husband, Leo W. Nall, and infant twins, Earl and Earline Nall, preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons, Webb Nall and wife, Frances, of Atmore, Joe Nall and wife, Dianne, of Bay Minnette, Bob Nall and wife, Jan, of Edmond, Okla. and Merrill Nall and wife, Becky, of Muscle Shoals; two Daughters, Elsie Butler and husband, Walter, of McDavid, Fla. and Polly Watkins and husband, Doug, of Montgomery; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 from Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kelly Brown and the Rev. Arnold Hendrix officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers include Richard Nall, Keith Nall, Joey Nall, David Nall, Eric Stuart and Robert Nall. Honorary pallbearer is Justin Hurst.
Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday, Sept. 18, 2010 at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.
