Eunice P. Dailey
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Eunice P. Dailey, 80, of Monroeville died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at U.S.A. Hospital in Mobile.
Dailey was a native of Monroeville and a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a high school graduate of Monroe County Training School of Beatrice, received a B.S. degree from Alabama State of Montgomery and a Masters degree from Alabama A&M in Huntsville. She was a retired educator of 30 years in the Monroe County School System and was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Survivors include one brother, Levy Pierce of Chicago, Ill.; and two sisters, Vada Powell of Mobile and Barnetta Jones of Chicago.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 11:30 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. John A. Tucker, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

William “Bill” Lambert
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
William “Bill” Lambert, 80, of Uriah died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2007 at Monroe County Hospital.
Lambert was a lifelong resident of Uriah and had been a tugboat captain. He was a member of the Uriah First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Olean Lambert of Uriah; one son, Levon Lambert of Pensacola, Fla.; and one brother; W.D. Lambert of Uriah.
Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 14 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Johnson Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Chapman and Rev. Mark Whittington officiating. Burial followed in Uriah cemetery.

Johnny “Slim” Montgomery
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Johnny “Slim” Montgomery, 61, of Beatrice died Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2007.
Montgomery was a native of Chestnut and a lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a chainsaw operator for Nettles Logging Company of Beatrice and a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ellis Marshall of Beatrice and Johnny Marshall of Morristown, Tenn.; a daughter, Shamekia Marshall of Beatrice; three brothers, Daniel (Loretta) Montgomery of Beatrice, Henry (Barbara) Montgomery of Lauralton, N.Y. and Willie Sam (Viola) Montgomery of Hollis, N.Y.; four sisters, Ida (Lewis) Brown of Highland, Calif., Dorothy (Reuben) Sims of Hempstead, N.Y., Nellie (James) Webb of Flint, Mich. and Angela Montgomery of Chestnut and one grandchild.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Chestnut with Rev. Bradley, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Diana Aree Taylor
Monroe Chapel, Monroeville
Diana Aree Taylor, 60, of Mexia died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2007 at her home.
Taylor was born in Sheridan, Wyo. and had lived in Mexia since 1989. She retired from Wal-Mart and after retirement worked with the Monroe County Board of Education as a substitute teacher. She was a member of the Garden Club and was active with the Peddlin’ for a Cure and the Sav A Life programs. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Monroeville.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Katie Cook.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Taylor of Mexia; her mother, Juanita Hornback of Sequim, Wash.; two sons, Brian Garber and Allen Cook, both of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Erica Cook of Ft. Louis, Wash. and Megan Cook of Evanston, Wyo.; two step-daughters, Cristal Taylor and Cassie Taylor, both of Kemmerer, Wyo.; two sisters, Roxie McClelland of Sequim, Wash. and Audrey Elliott of Salt Lake City, Utah and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Aug. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Monroe Chapel with Father Larry W. McMahan officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Peddlin’ for a Cure Program, 500 Brown St., Monroeville, AL 36460.

Charles Wayne Busey
The Island Funeral Home, Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Charles Wayne Busey, 66, of Hilton Head Island, S.C. died Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007 at his home.
Busey was born in Frisco City. He graduated from Frisco City High School and the University of Alabama. He was a CPA and a retired partner of Cherry, Bekaert & Holland. He was a founding member and the long-time treasurer of the Church of Christ on Hilton Head Island and a past president of the Hilton Head Rotary Club.
Survivors include his wife, Maranell Busey; his son and daughter-by-marriage, Kenneth Busey and Maureen Farrell of Arlington, Va.; a brother, Yuell (Joanna) Busey of Mobile; and a sister, Mavis (Tom) Miller.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: Southeastern Children’s Home, P.O. Box 339, Duncan, S.C. 29334 or Volunteers in Medicine Clinic, 15 Northridge Dr., Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29926.

Leona Evelyn Hicks
Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home, Camden
Leona Evelyn Hicks, 90, of Camden died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007.
Survivors include her children, Laura Ellen Hicks Harris of Selma, Rev. Willie (Mary Frances) Martin Hicks Jr. of Coy, Glenn (Suzanne Morrison) Marcus Hicks of Monroeville; two sisters, Eloise Pharr Zurga and Clara Pharr Geck, both of Coy; two brothers, Claud E. Pharr of Pine Hill and Raymond J. Pharr of Excel; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. at Gullets Bluff Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Hicks, Rev. Toomy Hicks and Rev. Reid Nettles officiating. Burial followed at Reeves Chapel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association or Monroe Health Foundation for Cancer Center, P.O. Box 886, Monroeville, AL 36460.

Howard “Doc” Nord
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Howard “Doc” Nord, 80, of Monroeville died Sept. 27, 2007 at Englewood Nursing Home.
Nord was a native of Hybart and had lived in Monroe County for many years. He was a retired logger and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville.
Survivors include four sons, David Nord, Chester (Cheryl) Nord, Selth Shoots and Benjamin (Erica) Smith, all of Monroeville; eight daughters, Everlean Nord, JoAnn Preyear, Mary Ann Pugh, Christine Davis, Mary (James) Wilkerson, Erica Nord and Tina Smith, all of Monroeville and Caldonia (Rayford) Betts of Ft. Myers, Fla.; four sisters, Ruby Riggs of Monroeville, Flossie Packer of Cincinnati, Ohio, Mildred Powery of Philadelphia, Pa., and Florence Sue Packer of Columbus, Ohio; and one brother, William Autrey of Columbus.
A wake will be held Thursday, Oct. 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. at Jones Unity Funeral Home. Services will be held Friday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m. with Rev. John A. Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Morning Star Baptist Church Cemetery.

Otis Woodrow Simpkins Sr.
Presley-Fluker Funeral Directors, Inc., Evergreen
Otis Woodrow Simpkins Sr., 91, of Brewton died Sept. 26, 2007.
Simpkins was born in Mexia and was a member of New Chapel Baptist Church where he served as an ordained deacon, the church’s clerk and an adult Sunday school teacher. He was a farmer in his early years. He also worked with United Burial Insurance Company and retired from Vanity Fair, Inc.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Rosie Lee (Joe) Autrey.
Survivors include his wife, DeEther Salter Simpkins; five children, Lucy Nell (Albert) Lewis, Otis (Pat) Simpkins Jr., Relia Mae (Philip) Lee and Bessie Ann (Trevor) Johnson; two brothers, Gilmore Simpkins and George Simpkins; one sister, Relia Bell; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 11 a.m. at New Chapel Baptist Church in Mexia with Rev. J. O. Malone officiating. Burial followed in Bergen Memorial Cemetery in Brewton.

Mary Lou Walker
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Mary Lou Walker, 49, of Beatrice died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007 at her home.
Walker was a native and lifelong resident of Beatrice. She was a paper inserter at The Monroe Journal and a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include her mother, Lucille Walker of Beatrice; two sons, Kirk Lorenzo Walker of Monroeville and Delvin Walker of Biloxi, Miss.; one daughter, LaKeisha Riley of Beatrice; two brothers, Willie Walker and Quincy Walker, both of Beatrice; three sisters, Emma Walker and Patricia Walker, both of Beatrice and Shirley Marzette of Andalusia; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 28 from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at Penn’s Funeral Home chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church in Buena Vista with Rev. Jessie Andress officiating. Burial will follow in Macedonia Cemetery.

Mildred Marguerite Waters
Monroe Chapel, Monroeville
Mildred Marguerite Waters, 86, of Repton died Sept. 30, 2007 at her home.
Waters was a native of Conecuh County. She attended Coleman Assembly of God Church in Wildfork. She retired from Max Kohn Drapery Company after 30 years of service as a sewing machine operator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. R.C. Waters.
Survivors include six sons, Melvyn Douglas (Kate) Waters of Uriah, Raybon Rushton “Nig” (Myrtle) Waters of Repton, Jimmy (Charlene) Waters of La Place, La., Reg (Frances) Waters of Monroeville, Herman “Butch” Waters of Excel and Carlton (Regina) Waters of Evergreen; three daughters, Linda Gayle Booker of Atlanta, Ga., Dorothy Ann Brooks of Repton and Beverly Jane (William) Manning of Goodway; two brothers, Locky Andrews and Donnie Andrews, both of Mobile; 25 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mitchell Jordan officiating. Burial followed in the Oakdale Assembly of God Cemetery in Repton.

Beatrice McNiel Williams
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Beatrice McNiel Williams, 89, of Monroeville died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007 at her home.
Williams was a native of Monroe County and had been a sewing machine operator at Vanity Fair Mills. She was a member of the Eastwood Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Dewayne Williams of Bermuda; three daughters, Jeanette (Quinton) Kilgore of Jasper, Jean (Wendell) Burt of Evergreen and Janice (Jimmy) Booker of Excel; two stepchildren, Oscar Williams of Sun City, Ariz. and Shirley Zoeller of Glendale, Ariz.; two brothers, Rayford McNiel of Fountain and Ronald McNiel of Burnt Corn; one sister, Blanche Haley of Bay Minette; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, Sept 29 at 10 a.m. at the Eastwood Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. Sam Tate and Rev. Gene Pickern officiating. Burial followed in Rumbley Cemetery in Peterman.
