Georgia Solomon Phillips
Norris Funeral Home, Bay Minette
Georgia Solomon Phillips, 81, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Oakwood Nursing Home in Bay Minette.
Phillips was born in Monroe County and was a resident of Bay Minette. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include three sons, Dale Phillips and Mike Phillips, both of Bay Minette and Stephen Phillips of Little River; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 13 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Norris Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Norris Funeral Home with Rev. Chris Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Phillips Cemetery in Little River.
Although the family will accept flowers they suggest memorial contributions be made to Community Hospice, 331 D’Olive St., Bay Minette, AL 36507.

Roosevelt Pugh Sr.
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Roosevelt Pugh Sr., 68, of Buffalo, N.Y. died Monday, March 10, 2008 at his home.
Pugh was a native of Tunnel Springs and lived in Monroe County most of his youth. He was a retired security guard.
Survivors include his wife, Fannie L. Pugh of Pensacola, Fla.; one son, Roosevelt Pugh Jr. of Pensacola; two stepsons, Michael Mims and Miguel Mims of Detriot, Mich.; three daughters, Denise Floyd of Milton, Fla., Tracey Hunter of Pensacola, and Shandra Robbins of Moss Point, Miss.; six sisters, Catherine Wiggins of Peterman, Ceola Harris of Monroeville, Lillie McMillian of Moss Point, Emma Reedeis of Pensacola, Fannie Couch of Cleveland, Ohio and Magnolia Lyons of Minneapolis, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 1 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church in Tunnel Springs with Rev. Whalen Oliver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Sara Patricia Smith
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Sara Patricia Smith, 61, of Repton died Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2008 at West Gate Village Nursing Home in Brewton.
Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Repton and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Springhill United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, David Smith of Perkinston, Miss. and Darrell Smith of Brewton; one daughter, Crystal Bivins of Repton; one brother, Robert Ivey of Repton; three sisters, Roberta Brown of Fairhaven, Vt., and Jimmie Ivey and Debbie Ryals, both of Repton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Friday, Feb. 29 at 2 p.m. at Springhill United Methodist Church with Rev. Thomas Smith and Rev. Doug Greer officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

George Henry Turner
Monroe Chapel, Monroeville
George Henry Turner, 85, of Beatrice died Sunday, March 9, 2008 in Monroeville.
Turner was a native of Wilcox County and had resided in Beatrice for a number of years. He was a veteran of the United States Army and had worked with Monroe County as a motor grader operator for 30 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Turner.
Survivors include a son, George S. Turner of Beatrice; a daughter, Debra (Danny) Urguhart of Beatrice; a sister, Alberta Harvey of Greenville; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13 at 11 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. at Casey Church of Christ Cemetery in Selma.

Mary Weaver
Johnson Overturf Funeral Home, Palatka
Mary Weaver, 59, of Palatka died Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at Putnam Community Medical Center.
Weaver was a native of Megargel and resided in Putnam County since 1981 coming from Sikeston, Mo. She was a homemaker and a member of the College Road Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, William A. “Bill” Weaver of Palatka; three sons, Travis (Libby) Weaver, Doug (Leah) Weaver and Marty Weaver, all of Palatka; four brothers, Edward (Louise) Cobb Jr. of Megargel, Allen (Alice) Cobb and Walter Cobb, both of Biloxi, Miss. and Cliff (Betty) Allen of Ocean Springs, Miss.; three sisters, Anne (James) Brown of Frisco City, Sandra (Danny) Wilson of Daphne and Jean (Kelly) Bodiford of Greenville; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, March 8 at 3 p.m. at the College Road Church of Christ in Palatka with Bro. C.L. Overturf Jr. and Bro. Melvin Barker officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Christian Home and Bible School, 301 West 13th Avenue, Mt. Dora, FL. 32757.

Bertha Ann “Doll” Williams
Jones’ Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Bertha Ann “Doll” Williams, 79, of Monroeville died Saturday, March 8, 2008 at Mobile Infirmary.
Williams was a native of Franklin and a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peter Baptist Church in Franklin.
Survivors include sons, Jack Williams and Julius Williams, both of Moss Point, Miss., Ray Charles Williams of Monroeville and Charles Williams of Panama City, Fla.; daughters, Bernice Chambers and Hattie Henderson, both of Monroeville and Rosie Lee Cook of Anniston; brothers, Frank Brown of Lake Charles, La., Fred McCarther of Atlanta, Ga. and George McCarther of St. Elmo; sisters, Ola Mae Abney, Bernice Brown and Berdia Brown, all of Monroeville; Voncile Mallory of New York, N.Y., Pearlie Mae Brown of Acron, Ohio, Francis King of Pensacola, Fla., and Louise Cole of Cameron, La.; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 15 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. Matthew Davis officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter Baptist Church cemetery in Franklin.

Ruth Grandeeze Booker
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Ruth Grandeeze Booker, 86, of the Lone Star community died Thursday, April 10, 2008 at the Evergreen Nursing Home.
Booker was a lifelong resident of Lone Star and was a member of the Lone Star Community of Christ Church. She had worked as an examiner for Vanity Fair Mills.
Survivors include two sons, Edwin (Elaine) Booker of Evergreen and Rogene (Melissa) Booker of Bermuda; one daughter, Annette (Bobby) Wells of Holley, Fla.; one sister, Louise Diamond of Lafayette, La.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, April 13 at 2 p.m. at the Lone Star Community of Christ Church with Elder Don Brown and Elder Mildred Brown officiating.

Willie Mae Clausell
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Willie Mae Clausell, 77, of Monroeville died Monday, April 14, 2008 at Monroe County Hospital.
Clausell was a lifelong resident of Monroe County. She was a retired seamstress with Vanity Fair and a nurse’ assistant at a local doctor’s office and at Monroe County Hospital. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Monroeville.
Survivors include her husband, Hestle Clausell Sr. of Monroeville; one son, Dr. Fred Hestle (Marie) Clausell Jr. of Mobile; one daughter, Janice (Ricky) Leggitte of Montgomery; one brother, Lee (Trudy) Snell of San Antonio, Texas; four sisters, Helen Hoyette and Bertha (Rasheed) Ola-O’Delle, both of Bronx, N.Y., Doris (Climmy) Mosely of Riverdale, Ga. and Carolyn (Napolean) Lee of Monroeville; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. Ywell K. Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Michael “Mikey” Edwards
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore
Michael “Mikey” Edwards, 17, died Friday, April 11, 2008 in Century, Fla.
Edwards was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton, a member of the Dixonville Volunteer Fire Department and worked at all the volunteer fire departments.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Eckard Capers; and his grandfathers, Billy Joe Edwards and Buary Hasting.
Survivors include, his father and stepmother, Mike and Shenna Edwards of Summerdale; his mother and stepfather, Tina and Chris Adams of Uriah; his daddy, Johnny Kilpatrick of Pace, Fla.; grandparents, Robert and Linda Scroggins of Brewton, Mary L. Edwards of Atmore, Norma Jean Kilpatrick of Pace, Fla. and Fonzie and Linda Hall of Canoe; his brother, C.J. Adams of Brewton; and four sisters, Rebecca Kilpatrict and Shay Kilpatrick, both of Uriah, Selene Adams of Brewton and Mikayla Edwards of Summerdale.
Services were held Wednesday, April 16 t 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Frederick Barrow officiating. Burial followed at Dry Springs Cemetery.

Booker “BT” Frye
Penn’s Funeral Home, Monroeville
Booker “BT” Frye, 73, of Frisco City died Friday, April 11, 2008 in D.W. McMillian Memorial Hospital in Brewton.
Frye was a native of Frisco City and lived in Monroe County most of his life. He attended Tuskegee Industrial Institute where he pursued a career as a butcher. He was a farmer, retired from Frisco Manufacturing Company and was a retired school bus driver.
Survivors include three brothers, Tommy Marshall of Chicago, Ill., Charlie Frye of Pensacola, Fla. and David Jr. Anderson of Excel and four sisters, Mary Lott of Chicago, Mattie Mills of Frisco City, Minnie McMillian of Excel and Daisy Wilkerson of Monroeville.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 18 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Penn’s Chapel. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 19 at 11 a.m. at Penn’s Chapel with Rev. Sidney Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in McConnico Cemetery in Perdue Hill.

John W. Lassitter
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Brewton
John W. Lassitter, 87, of Atmore died Sunday, April 13, 2008 at his home.
Lassitter was born in Escambia County. He was a retired farmer and a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of Huxford Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Voncile Lassitter of Atmore; one son, William “Benford” (Gail) Lassitter of Wade, Miss.; one daughter, Joyce (Allen) Woolley of Newton, Miss.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, April 15 at 11 a.m. from Huxford Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Saylor officiating. Burial followed in McCullough Cemetery.
