Hannibal Levon Blackmon

Hannibal Levon Blackmon, 66, of Monroeville died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital.
Blackmon was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was a retired worker from Alabama Power Company and a member of Morning Star Baptist Church where he served on the Deacon Board, Usher Board and was the superintendent of Sunday school.
Survivors include five sons, Hannibal Blackmon Jr., Paul Blackmon, Hannibal Blackmon III and Harvey Blackmon, all of Monroeville and Phillip Blackmon of Louisville, Ky.; two daughters, Helen Pugh of Monroeville and Margaret Davison of Salina, Kan.; four stepsons; Robert Rankins, Mitchell Blackmon and Ronnie Rankins, all of Monroeville and Kenneth Rankins of Grove Hill; two brothers, Rev. David Blackmon of Pensacola and Archie Blackmon of Defuniak Springs, Fla.; four sisters, Barbara Jackson and Patricia Finney, both of Nashville, Tenn. and Addye Ward and Ann Morris, both of Pensacola; two stepbrothers, Henry Charles “Jake” Rivers of Monroeville and Robert Earl Rivers of Washington, D.C.; six stepsisters, Fannie Mae Prime of Atmore and Irma Lou McCants, Annie Mae Rivers, Edna R. Rivers, Adella Williams and Christine Rivers, all of Monroeville; 24 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, May 23 at Morning Star Baptist Church in Monroeville with Rev. John A. Tucker, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Danny Ray Williams
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Danny Ray Williams, 33, of Atmore died Monday, May 25, 2009 at USA Medical Center in Mobile.
Williams was a member of Full Gospel Revival Center in Monroeville and worked in residential construction.
Survivors include his parents, Rev. Mike Skipper and Barbara Skipper of Excel; one son, Justin Williams; one sister, Wendy (Joshua) Rolfs of Battle Ground, Wash.; and a grandmother, Isabelle Moffett of Brewton.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 28 at 10 a.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Wilbur Graves, Rev. Randy Steadman and Rev. Robert Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Monroe Chapel Cemetery in Frisco City.

Dr. Anne Cragon Mason Kouns
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Dr. Anne Cragon Mason Kouns, 54, of Monroeville died Thursday, May 21, 2009.
Kouns, a native of Knoxville, Tenn., was a resident of Monroeville since November 2008. She was a graduate of Brookhill School, Birmingham Southern College and the Medical School of the University of Alabama Birmingham. She was a family practice physician in Birmingham and central Alabama for a number of years and a member of Uriah United Methodist Church in Uriah.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. George S. Kouns of Monroeville; her son, Michael Mason of Auburn; her father and mother, Steve and Mary Jo Cragon of Hoover; her brother, Steven Cragon Jr. of Huntsville; and a sister, Carol Cragon Sims of Hoover.
A memorial service was held Sunday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at Uriah United Methodist Church in Uriah.
Memorial girls may be made to the Uriah United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 126, Uriah, AL. 36480.

Susanne Johnson “Boo Boo” Murray
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Susanne Johnson “Boo Boo” Murray, 58, of Franklin died May 20, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary Hospital.
Murray was a native of Brewton and had resided in Franklin most all of her life. She attended Woodlawn Methodist Church and had been an elementary school teacher.
Survivors include her husband, Elvin I. (Chubby) Murray of Franklin; one son, Brandon L. Murray of Meridian, Miss.; one daughter, Criston Murray of Excel; one sister, Mary Johnson Huff of Montgomery; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Friday, May 22 at 11 a.m. at River Ridge Cemetery in Franklin with Rev. Kathy McKinley officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the American Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Wilma Lucille Nettles
Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, Mobile
Wilma Lucille Nettles, 83 of Mobile died on Monday, May 25, 2009 at a local hospital. Nettles was a native of Peterman. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church and retired in 1990 from the Mobile County License Commissioners Office.
She was preceded in death by her son, Felix Nettles.
Survivors include her husband, Cecil L. Nettles of Mobile; children, Jean Stine of Monroeville, Sarah (Ronald) Griffin of Citronelle and Anthony O. "Tony" Nettles of Mobile; brother, John Allen (Rebecca) Biggs of Monroeville; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 27 at 10 a.m. from the chapel of Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Mark United Methodist Church.

Esther P. Turberville
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Esther P. Turberville, 78, of Franklin died Thursday, May 21, 2009 at her home.
Turberville, a longtime resident of Monroe County, had lived in Loxley for a number of years and moved back to Franklin in 1964. She was a member of Faith Chapel Assembly of God Church and had worked for Vanity Fair as a sewing machine operator.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Flossie Stabler; her son, John Junior Acreman; and her brother, Lorenzo Everette.
Survivors include her husband, Norman L. Turberville of Franklin; three sons, Danny Everette and Terry Turberville, both of Excel and Kenneth Turberville of Franklin; four daughters, Juliette Stabler, Brenda Rowell and Cynthia Acreman, all of Franklin and Johnnie Stabler of Frisco City; four sisters, Ruth Enterken of Century, Fla., Doskie Kelly and Sue McKenzie, both of Monroeville and Vivian Wilson of Loxley; 12 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sunday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at Faith Chapel Assembly of God Church in Franklin with Sister Mary Watford Stabler and Rev. Dale Aplin officiating. Burial followed in Bryant Cemetery in Finchburg.

Gary Wayne Wiggins
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Gary Wayne Wiggins, 55, of College Park, Ga. died Thursday, May21, 2009 at his home.
Wiggins was a native of Monroe County and a graduate of Monroe County High School. He was a mechanic and a member of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church of College Park.
Survivors include his wife, Regina Wiggins of College Park; his mother, Clara Wiggins of Monroeville; two sons, Gary Rodriquez Wiggins and Martavius Wiggins, both of College Park; one daughter, Lakesha Nicole Wiggins of College Park; four brothers, Michael F. Wiggins of Riverdale, Ga., and Eleazer Wiggins Jr., Robert Louis Wiggins and Terry Wiggins, all of Monroeville; two sisters, Undra Wiggins and Sharon D. Wiggins, both of College Park; and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 28 at 1 p.m. at Good Hope Baptist Church in Finchburg with Rev. W.E. Hill, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Clifford Lamar Williams
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Clifford Lamar Williams, 49, of Beatrice died Saturday, May 23, 2009 at Mobile Infirmary.
Williams was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He graduated from J.F. Shields in Beatrice and was a loader operator with John’s Estes Logging Company. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel M. Williams of Beatrice; two sons, Timothy Stallworth and Courtney Williams, both of Beatrice; one daughter, Meghin Williams of Pensacola, Fla.; four brothers, Fred Williams of Kileen, Texas, and Harold Williams, Michael Williams and Jim Nettles Sr., all of Beatrice; three sisters, Gloria Walker, Dorothy Frye and Minnie Lett, all of Beatrice; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 30 at 11 a.m. at Morning Star Baptist Church in Beatrice with Rev. Dion Culliver officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jeanette McCorvey
Jones’ Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Jeanette McCorvey, a native of Monroe County and a resident of Philadelphia, Pa., died Dec. 30, 2009.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at Antioch #1 Baptist Church in Tunnel Springs with Rev. Whalen Oliver, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Elizabeth Marshall Milton
Jones’ Funeral Home, Monroeville
Elizabeth Marshall Milton, 104, of Monroeville died Dec. 30, 2009 at Monroe Manor.
Milton was a native of Wilcox County and was a janitorial worker. She was a member of A.O.H. Church in Monroeville.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m. at Jones’ Funeral Home chapel with Rev. David Simmons officiating. Burial followed in Morning Star Cemetery in Monroeville.

Velma Odom
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore
Velma Odom, 74, died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010 in Brewton.
Odom was a native of Bluff Springs, Fla., a former resident of Atmore and a resident of Range for the past eight years.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Sue Odom.
Survivors include her husband, Orrie Odom of Range; two sons, James Odom and Frank Odom, both of Range; two brothers, Wilmer Scott of Bay Minette and Billy Scott of Little River; two sisters, Ruth Scott and Roberta Johnson, both of Atmore; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held Tuesday, Jan. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Thurl Pearson officiating. Burial followed in Hartwood Methodist Cemetery in Range.
