Ola Mae Moore, 93, of Monroeville died Monday, May 10, 2010 at Monroe Manor in Monroeville.
Moore was a longtime resident of Monroe County. She was a homemaker and a member of Mexia Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Moore Sr.
Survivors include two sons, John H. (Glenda) Moore Jr. of Mexia and Donald Thomas (Ditty) Moore of Monroeville; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at Mexia Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne McMillian officiating. Burial will follow in the Mexia Cemetery in Mexia.

Vesta Carolyn Sharpless
Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home, Atmore
Vesta Carolyn Sharpless, 89, of Atmore died Sunday, May 2, 2010 in Atmore.
Sharpless was born in Hartfield and retired from Monsanto.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rex J. Sharpless; a granddaughter, Valisa Paulette Lambert; and a son-in-law, L. Jackie Sims.
Survivors include one son, James Lamar (Sandra) Sharpless of Orange Beach; two daughters, Gloria Sims of Atmore and Carolyn (Gerald) Lambert of Goodway; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Carroll of Pensacola, Fla. and Evelyn Stokes of Mobile; eight grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Wednesday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m. at Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Stewart officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Shelia Taylor
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Shelia Taylor, 44, of Hempstead, N.Y. died April 29, 2010 in New York.
Taylor was a native of Monroe County. She was a member of New Jerusalem Church of Christ in Uniondale, N.Y. and served as a usher in the church.
Survivors include her mother, Daisy Bradley of Hempstead; one son, Tywain Taylor of Watertown, N.Y.; two daughters, Tammesha Taylor of Watertown and Tara Cunningham of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Patricia Clark of Hempstead and Everline McCullum of Atmore; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Friday, May 7 at 1 p.m. at Centennial Baptist Church #2 in Repton with Rev. John Tucker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Rev. John A. Bland
Rev. John A. Bland, 75, died Sunday, June 13, 2010 at his home.
Rev. Bland was a retired United Methodist minister. He spent more than 40 years in the ministry serving churches in the Alabama West Florida Conference including congregations in Notasulga, Phenix City, Panama City, Fla., Lyeffion, Repton, Rosinton, Mobile, Wilmer, Union Springs and East Brewton. He also taught English at W.S. Neal, Fairhope and Castleberry High Schools, was a veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired from the U.S. Army National Guard.
He is survived by two sisters, Margie Agerton of Tampa, Fla. and Marie Hobbs of Marianna, Fla.; four daughters, Myra Tatano, Connie Baggett, Lorna Bland, M.D., and Angel Fountain, all of Brewton; and seven granddaughters.
A memorial service is set for Thursday, June 17 at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist in Brewton. The family will receive visitors at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the church or charity of choice.

Richard Albert Dixon
Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore
Richard Albert Dixon, 54, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010 in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.
Dixon was a native of Uriah, a resident of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla. since 1981 and attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Ft. Walton Ward. He was a graduate of J.U. Blacksher School.
Survivors include his parents, James A. and Sadie Gregson Dixon of Uriah; two brothers, Terry Lynn Dixon of Huntsville and Danny Leon Dixon of Uriah; and three sisters, Sharon Diane Dixon of Uriah, Sandra Elaine Heaton of Westminster, Md. and Tammy Darlene Eles of Bay Minette.
Services were held Saturday, June 12 at 10 a.m. at the Petty-Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with Pres. Greg Albritton and High Priest Edward D. Glade officiating. Burial will follow at Poplar Springs Cemetery.

Emma Grace Gilchrist
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Emma Grace Gilchrist, infant, died Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Thomas Hospital in Fairhope.
Survivors include her parents, John Patrick Gilchrist and Maegan Nichols Gilchrist of McCullough; her grandparents, Jeff and Myra Nichols of Uriah, Tammy Driskell Lowrey of Uriah and Brenda Hurd and Bo Martin, both of Beulah, Fla.; and her great-grandparents, Georgia Driskell and the late D.W. Driskell of McCullough, Ralph and Margaret Nichols of Uriah and Eula Jones and the late Henry Jones of Beulah.
Graveside services were held Friday, June 11 at 10 a.m. at McCullough Cemetery in McCullough with Rev. Bruce Purvis officiating.

Charles H. Haskew Jr.
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Charles H. Haskew Jr., 68, of Monroeville died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Atmore Nursing Home.
Haskew was a lifetime resident of Monroe County. He worked as a welder and auto mechanic. He also served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his sons, Shane Homer Haskew of Elmore, Jerry Wayne (Bernice) Haskew of South Carolina and Ray (Londy) Hines of Flomaton; his daughters, Brenda Kay Hill of Atmore and Patsy (Roger) Alverson of Atmore; a sister, Elizabeth Johnson of Goodway; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, June 15 at 6 p.m. at Monroe Chapel Funeral Home with Elder Marion Johnson officiating.

Darrell Sterling Kimberl
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Darrell Sterling Kimberl, 70, of Mexia died Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Englewood Health Care Facility.
Kimberl was born in Excel. He was a former resident of Talladega. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was a member of Mexia Baptist Church where he had served as deacon. He owned and operated a welding shop and had also worked with Vanity Fair and in industrial construction work.
He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Clarence Kimberl.
Survivors include his wife, Hilma Kimberl of Mexia; a son, Darrell Sterling (Miranda) Kimberl Jr. of Madison; his daughter, Elizabeth Kimberl (Ross) Beebee of Dallas, Texas; his mother, Nell Kimberl of Monroeville; his brother, Clarence Michael Kimberl of Monroeville; his sister, Marilyn Kimberl Kendrick of Wake Forest, N.C.; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday, June 12 at 2 p.m. at Mexia Baptist Church with Rev. Hughie Denton and Rev. Wayne McMillian officiating. Burial followed in Mexia Cemetery.

Gayle Marie Andrews
Monroe Chapel, Frisco City
Gayle Marie Andrews, 48, of Excel died Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Monroe County Hospital.
Andrews was born in Bay Minette and had lived in Monroe County since 1982. She was a homemaker and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bradley and Sandra White; and her brother, David White.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Andrews of Excel; her daughter, Sabrina Gayle Andrews of Excel; brothers, Tom (Terri) White and Raymond White, both of Bay Minette; and sisters, Diane (Glen) Hicks of Perdido, Miriam (Leonard) Purvis of Atmore and Audrey (Tony) Gauci of Elberta.
Services were held Monday, July 12 at 4 p.m. at Splinter Hill Church in Perdido with Sis. Thursia Long officiating. Burial followed in Guys Chapel Cemetery in Rabon.
The family is accepting flowers or donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, Ariz. 85718, www.mdausa.org.

Kizell Black Sr.
Jones Unity Funeral Home, Monroeville
Kizell Black Sr., 71, of Beatrice died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at his home.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Monroe County. He was retired with the Monroe County Commission where he worked as a dump truck driver and was a member of New Purchase C.M.E. Church.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Black of Beatrice; six sons, Willie Stallworth of Monroeville; Gerald Tolbert of Repton, Charles Tolbert of Frisco City, Curtis Black of Gautier, Miss. and Kizell Black Jr. and Earl Black, both of Beatrice; six daughters, Darlene Simpson of Monroeville, Frenchelle Stallworth of Tunnel Springs, Tracy Stallworth of Pasagoula, Miss. and Wanda Stallworth, Erika “Lisa” Booker and Debra Penn, all of Beatrice; two sisters, Mary Winfrey of Cleveland, Ohio and Dorothy Holly of Detroit, Mich.; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 15 at 11 a.m. at the Jones Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Blacks Cemetery.

Thelma Andrews Brooks
Johnson Funeral Home, Monroeville
Thelma Andrews Brooks, 85, of Repton died Monday, July 12, 2010 at her home.
Brooks was a native of Conecuh County and had resided in Repton most all of her life. She had worked as a seamstress for Steven Roberts for many years and was a member of the Excel Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include one son, Carlos (Kathy) Brooks of Orange Park, Fla.; three daughters, Emily (Charles) Morris of Mexia, Judy (Jim) Pennington of Tallahassee, Fla. and Marti (Terry) Easterling of Mobile; one brother, James Robert Andrews of Repton; one sister, Madie Crutchfield of East Brewton; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 15 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at 4 p.m. at the Repton Baptist Cemetery in Repton with Rev. Ernest Cofield officiating.
