FRANKIE MAE POWELL GARRETT

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Frankie Mae Powell Garrett, 61, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Mountain Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Hatten officiating. Burial will be in Rhoden Cemetery.

Mrs. Garrett died July 30. She was a member of Mountain Grove Baptist Church, its adult choir and mission board. She served as assistant secretary of the church, its Sunday school and choir. She was a founding member of Spiritual Founders gospel group.

She is survived by her husband, Willie James Garrett of Childersburg; three sons, Willie Garrett Jr. of Childersburg, Derrick Garrett of Atlanta and Marvin Garret of Jacksonville, Fla.; one brother, Benny Powell of Power Springs, Ga.; four sisters, Deborah Scott of Harpersville, Vivian Young of Birmingham, Amy Crowe and Ola Kay Millner, both of Childersburg; 10 grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Friends and family will serve as flower bearers and pallbearers.

The body may be viewed at Community Funeral Home in Sylacauga on Sunday from noon to 9 p.m.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

DONNA BLADES

SYLACAUGA — Donna Blades, 43, died Aug. 2 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home.

TOM FRANK CLARK JR.

JACKSONVILLE, Ark. — Funeral service for Tom Frank Clark Jr., 77, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Ashland with the Rev. Darryl Wood officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Clark died July 28 at Rebsmen Hospital. He was native of Ashland and a deacon of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tony Clark and David Clark; one brother, Sam Clark; and four sisters, Emma Threat, Fannie Houston, Roby Lee Mackey and Catherine Powell.

He is survived by one son, Ricky Clark of Chicago; six daughters, Faye Clark of Jacksonville, Ark., Rosa Lee Brown, Mary Ann Moore, Diane Ward, Betty Clark and Darlene Clark, all of Chicago; four sisters, Dorothy Whithcomb of Chicago, Ann Burney, Nancy Street and Arlean Heard, all of Ashland; three brothers, Otis Clark of Ashland, Richard Clark of Detroit and Clarence Clark of Chicago; 35 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday at 6 p.m. at Rest in Peace Funerals of Lineville-Ashland.

Pallbearers will be friends and officers of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.

The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service.

Rest in Peace Funerals of Lineville-Ashland will direct the service.

ANNIE LUCILLE CRAWFORD

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Annie Lucille Crawford, 87, will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Gene Young, the Rev. Coy Powell and the Rev. Steve Dyess officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Crawford died Aug. 2 at Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County, had retired from the nursing home and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, James Hubert Crawford, and one son, Lynwood Hubert Crawford.

She is survived by four daughters, Debra Jordon of Cragford, Frances Brand, Katie McCain and Polly Bachman, all of Ashland; six sons, Roger Crawford of Wadley, Joe Crawford of Cragford, Robert Crawford of Hackneyville, Terry Crawford of Millerville, James Crawford and Jimmy Crawford, both of Ashland; two sisters-in-law, Ida Crawford and Mary Crawford, both of Gibsonville; one brother-in-law, Woodfin Crawford of Gibsonville; 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Active and honorary pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family with receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home Sunday from 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Monday until 10 a.m.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Benefield funeral home will direct the service.

DON R. FOWLER

SYLACAUGA — Don R. Fowler, 46, died Aug. 2 at Baptist Coosa Valley Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home.

JOHN DANIEL FUNDERBURG

CROPWELL — Funeral service for John Daniel Funderburg, 94, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Dr. Kenneth Bullard and the Rev. Jackie Connell officiating. Burial will be in Valley Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Funderburg died Aug. 1 at his residence, four days prior to he and his wife's 69th wedding anniversary. He was a lifelong resident of Cropwell and retired from Avondale Mills with more than 30 years of service. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service for more than 34 years. He was a member and deacon of Coosa Valley Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Lou Funderburg of Cropwell; three daughters, Vivian Love and her husband George of Crossett, Ark., Carolyn Masters and her husband Joel and Judy McDanal and her husband Larry, all of Pell City; two sons, James Byron "Buster" Funderburg and Wayne Morris Funderburg and his wife Linda, all of Pell City; one sister, Catherine Lowe of Conyers, Ga.; one step-sister, Lallouise Simpkins of Pell City; one brother, James T. Funderburg of Pell City; 13 grandchildren, June Limato, Russ Love, Tammy Huey, Byron Funderburg, Dana Benton, Kelly Gowers, Leah Tucker, Brian Funderburg, Michelle Jones, Michael Masters, Mark Masters, Leigh McDanal, John McDanal; one step-grandchild, Tina Smith; 32 great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Russ Love, Byron Funderburg, Michael Masters, Mark Masters. Leigh McDanal, John McDanal and Brian Funderburg.

Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.

AGNES MANNING

ALEXANDER CITY — Agnes Manning, 78, died July 1 at Adams Nursing Home.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Sons Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

TOMMIE LOU SPRAGGINS

TALLADEGA — Tommie Lou Spraggins, 79, died Aug. 2 at Talladega Health Care.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Sons Funeral Home-Childersburg Chapel.

WILLIAM RAY TAFT

ROANOKE — Funeral service for William Ray Taft, 83, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Quattlebaum Funeral Chapel with the Rev. David Taft officiating. Burial will be in Randolph Memory Gardens.

Mr. Taft died Aug. 1 at Traylor Nursing Home. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was born to Will and Ella Huey Taft. He was a World War II veteran and had been employed by Handley Mills. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice Taft, and one grandson, Robbie Taft.

He is survived by two daughters, Judy House of Roanoke and Brenda Barnett and her husband Howard of Sylacauga; two sons, Waymon Taft and his wife Trudy and Billy Ray Taft and his wife Peggy, all of Roanoke; two brothers, Fred Taft of Roanoke and Charles Taft of Rock Mills; five granddaughters, Tabatha House, Donna House, Teresa Gay, Vickie Taft and Angie Taft; two grandsons, Jerry Wayne Gay and Steven Taft; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Wier, Greg Pennington, Jerry Wayne Gay, Steve Taft, Barry Daniel and Bobby Ward.

Quattlebaum Funeral Home will direct the service.

MARY DEE LOCKRIDGE SMITH

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Mary Dee Lockridge Smith, 76, will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City with the Rev. A.L. Courtney officiating. Burial will be in Valley Hill Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Smith died Aug. 4. She was born in Crossville on Sand Mountain. She moved to Pell City when she was a child and was a graduate of Pell City High School. Mrs. Smith and her husband owned and operated the Hillcrest Restaurant in Pell City for 11 years. She was the bookkeeper for the St. Clair Farmers Exchange for many years and her and her husband owned and operated the Smith & Hayes Sporting Goods Store in Pell City for many years. She was very active in the Pell City Band Boosters and was also very active at the Eden Methodist Church for many years. She presently attended Grace Community Church in Cropwell and her and her husband were very active in many of the civic clubs in Pell City over the years. She and her husband, James Howard, had been married for the past 59 years. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Lockridge and Johnny Lockridge.

She is survived by her husband, James Howard Smith; son, Ronnie Gene Smith of Pell City; daughters, Sandra Kay Smith of Pell City and Danni Sheree Smith of Charleston, S.C.; grandchildren, David Smith, Jeana Smith, Ben Howard, Adam Howard, Stefani Artner and Seth Smith; great-grandchildren, Sara Smith, Jesse Howard and Jack Howard and; sister, Peggy Hodge of Pell City.

Pallbearers will be Gene Smith, David Smith, Keith Smith, Ben Howard, Greg Hawkins, Bobby Racca and Keith Hodge.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

WILLIAM DARBY SMITH

KELLYTON — William Darby Smith died Aug. 4 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright's Funeral Home.

KATHRYN ELIZABETH VUTERA

PELHAM — Funeral service for Kathryn Elizabeth Vutera will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Tom Hilyer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

The infant died Aug. 3.

She is survived by her parents, Tommy Vutera and Tammy Vutera of Pelham; sister, Amy Larussa of Pelham; brother, Tom Vutera of Pelham; grandparents, Kathryn West and Herbert West of Sylacauga and Tilla Vutera of Pelham and uncle, Herbie West of Sylacauga.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 until 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
