Johnny Robbins

Johnny Robbins died Monday, April 7, 1997, at his residence.

The funeral was held Wednesday, April 9, 2 p.m., at Aldridge Grove Church of Christ with Kyle McWorter and Ray McWorter officiating.

Burial was in the Cheatham Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

He was born in Moulton to Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Robbins.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; a daughter, Francis Robbins of Morgan County; a son, Johnathan Robbins of Lawrence County; two sisters, Faye Robbins White and Janice Wheeler, both of Lawrence County; two brothers, Joe Robbins and J. C. Robbins both of Lawrence County; and one grandchild.

Pallbearers were Ronald Johnson, Greg Robbins, Brooks Owens, Terry Wheeler, Boots Curtis and Jesse Owens.

William R. Blaxton Sr.

75, retired iron worker, Muscle Shoals

William Robert Blaxton Sr. died Sunday, April 6, 1997, after an extended illness.

The funeral was held Tuesday, April 8, 3 p.m., at Colbert Memorial chapel with Brother Don Miller officiating.

Burial was in the Circle of Love Mausoleum, Colbert County Memorial Gardens in Tuscumbia.

He was a life long resident of Colbert County. Mr. Blaxton was a member of First Baptist Church, Sheffield and was a decorated veteran of World War II, having received two Bronze Stars and one Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also a member of VFW, a 32nd degree mason in the Masonic Lodge in Tuscumbia, the Scottish Rite, the Shriners and was a 56-year member of the International Iron Workers Local 477.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Redding Blaxton; three sons, W. R. "Bobby" Blaxton Jr. of Huntsville, Julian "Buddy" Blaxton, Florence and Ronald Gary Blaxton, Sheffield; one stepson, Will Stutts, Pittsburgh, Pa.; one stepdaughter, Diane Owens of Huntsville; four sisters, Elizabeth Kelso, Decatur, Lennie Jeffreys, Hatton, Betty Davis, San Antonio, Texas and Robbie Klein, Sheffield; one brother, Julian Ray Blaxton of Haleyville; four grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Masons.

Honorary pallbearers were Dan Smith, Donnie Carson, Richard Ward and Barry Dickerson.

Lee Carlton Hood

66, Law. Co. Exch. retired truck driver, Mt. Hope

Funeral for Lee Carlton Hood was held Thursday, April 10, 2 p.m., at Union Hill Baptist Church with the Revs. Amos Hood and Steve Hood officiating.

Burial was in Union Hill Cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hood died Tuesday, April 8, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

He was born in Lawrence County and was retired from Lawrence County Exchange after 24 years of service.

Survivors include his son, Patrick Adair of Decatur; two daughters, Patsy Simpson and Kathy Porter of Mount Hope; his mother, Mable Johnson Hood of Town Creek; five brothers, Robert Hood Jr., Edwin Hood, Curtis Hood and Donald Hood, all of Town Creek and Harold Hood of Courtland; two sisters, Josephine Parker of Town Creek and Nadine Cameron of Mount Hope; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers were Jackie Hood, Jamie Hood, Brian Hood, Ronnie Hood, Bobby Hood and Hershel Hood.

John M. Burchel

88, retired farmer, Town Creek

Funeral for John M. Burchel, who died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, was held Sunday, April 13, 2 p.m., service was held at Lawrence Funeral chapel with the Revs. Mark Wakefield and Elmer Fowler officiating.

Burial was in the Providence Cemetery.

Mr. Burchel was born in Tennessee to Tom and Willie Burchel.

He was a member of Providence Baptist Church, a 50 year member of Hatton Masonic Lodge #879 and a member of Eastern Star.

Survivors include his wife, Alpha Patterson Burchel; three sons, Thomas Burchel of Athens, Roy Burchel of Decatur and Charles Burchel of Indiana; five daughters, Helen Varnell of Florida, Mary Brown, Beatrice Burchel and Betty Allmiller, all of Louisville, Ky. and Grace Dunlevy of Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Cora Gholston

92, Moulton

Funeral arrangements for Cora Gholston, who died Saturday, April 12, 1997, at National Health Care in Moulton, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mattie Lee

74, Moulton

Funeral arrangements for Mattie Lee, who died Thursday, April 10, 1997, at her residence, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Robert Hatton

70, Reynolds Aluminum retiree, Russellville

Funeral for Robert Leldon Hatton, who died Friday, April 11, 1997, at his home, was held Monday, April 14, 11 a.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Dillard officiating.

Burial was in the Masterson Cemetery.

Mr. Hatton was born in Lawrence County.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Hatton; three sons, Mike Hatton, Huston Hatton and Richard Hatton all of Hatton; one daughter, Lelda Hatton of Hatton; two brothers, Quinton Hatton and Guy Hatton, both of Hatton; one sister, Offie Ann McCormack of Leighton; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Jimmy Randolph, David Jackson, Tommy Hatton, Bob Jeffreys, Roy McCormack Jr., Mike Berryman and Aaron Berryman.

Rufus Calvin "Mac" McGregor

69, former restaurant owner, Decatur

A graveside service was held for Rufus Calvin "Mac" McGregor Tuesday, April 15, noon, at Roselawn Cemetery with Kyle McWhorter officiating and Parkway Funeral directing.

Mr. McGregor died Monday, April 14, 1997, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital.

He was born in Decatur to Rufus Hescue and Mae Roberts Long McGregor, Mr. McGregor formerly owned several restaurants and was retired from Bama Appliance. He was the widower of Marjorie "Jo" McGregor.

Survivors include two sons, Roger McGregor of Trinity and Dale McGregor of Mud Tavern; one brother, Curtis McGregor of Hartselle; three sisters,Betty Callahan and Coree Vest, both of Hartselle and Christine Buckner of Tallassee; and five grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Latham, Ronnie Crow, Randy Etheridge, Anthony Etheridge and Kurt Etheridge.

Rosie B. Mason

69, North Courtland

Funeral for Rosie B. Mason, who died Sunday, April 13, 1997, after an extended illness, is today (Thursday), April 17, 1 p.m., at First Baptist Church, Courtland, with Rev. Otis C. Neloms officiating.

Burial to be in the Courtland Cemetery with Thompson and Son Funeral Home directing.

She was a native of Colbert County and a resident of Courtland for 68 years. Mrs. Mason was a member of First Baptist Church, Courtland, Mother's Board of the church, church choir, Spring Creek Chapter 542 and Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by eight sons, Fred Freeman Jr. of Town Creek, Russell Hampton of Tennessee, Robert King and Lugean Mason, both of Courtland, Lee E. King of Detroit, Mich., Anthony Mason of Decatur, Clifford Mason of Muscle Shoals and Rickey Mason of Hopkinsville, Ky.; two daughters, Betty Anderson of Chattanooga, Tenn. and Rosie J. Bell of Courtland; two sisters, Annie Vinson of Courtland and Willow Dean Irons of Florence; one foster sister, Bernice Harris of Courtland; one foster brother, Sammy Billings of Decatur; 35 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

Deacons of First Baptist Church and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Melba Louise Plaxco

68, Golden Valley, Arizona

A graveside service was held for Melba Louise Plaxco on Sunday, April 20, 3 p.m., at Knights of Pythias Cemetery in Russellville with Thomas Thornton officiating and Spry Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Plaxco died Friday, April 18, 1997.

She was formerly of Russellville and was former office manager of Plaxco Chiropractic Clinic of Russellville. Mrs. Plaxco was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Russellvile.

Survivors include her husband, Dr. James H. Plaxco Sr.; two sons, Dr. James H. Plaxco Jr. of Moulton and Dr. Michael J. Plaxco of Muscle Shoals; two brothers, Don Bryant and Keith Bryant, both of Lees Summitt, Missouri; and Seven grandchildren.

Cleady Coan

84, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Cleady Coan, who died Friday, April 18, 1997, at National Healthcare in Moulton, was held Sunday, April 20, at Lawrence Funeral Home. The 2 p.m. service was officiated by the Revs. Clyde Goodlett and William Briley.

Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Coan was born in Russellvile. She was a member of Owen Chapel Baptist Church and the widow of Ed Coan.

She is survived by six sons, Hershel Coan and R. J. Coan, both of Moulton, Clyde Coan, John Coan and Clarence Coan, all of Mount Hope; three daughters, Clara Ann Moore of Decatur, Carolyn Spillers and Phyllis Bray, both of Moulton; two sisters, Johnnie Sue Washington and Lola Gaddis, both of Russellvile; 28 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren.

Grandsons were the pallbearers.
