Daryl Larnell Smith

50, Moulton

Funeral for Daryl Larnell Smith, who died Sunday, May 11, 1997, at Huntsville Hospital, was held Tuesday, May 13, 2 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home chapel with Hollis Retherford officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

He was a native of Moulton and was a Baptist.

Mr. Smith had been bedridden since youth, but never disabled to do what he set his desires to do. Via telephone hookups, talking books and help from family members and friends, he earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and a master's degree in counseling psychology from Alabama A&M University.

He worked for Huntsville Hospital for 11 years, doing patient follow-up care. He also worked for Mericorp in Birmingham. Mr. Smith spent the last year as a resident of Valley View Nursing and Rehab Center in Madison.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Merle T. Smith.

Survivors include his father, Willard J. Smith of Moulton; and his brother, Marlon Smith of Moulton.

Pallbearers included Ric Rice, David Kelley, Ronnie Smith and his nephews, Terry Smith, Mike Smith and Darin Smith.

Edward Lomax Cammack Jr.

85, millwright, Moulton

Funeral for Edward Lomax Cammack Jr. was held Monday, May 12, at Elliott Funeral Home with Dr. Darryl Wood officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mr. Cammack died Friday, May 9, 1997, at NHC Healthcare.

He was born in Colbert County and was retired from General Motors where he worked 22 years. Mr. Cammack was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 532 in Sulligent for 25 years and a member of Moulton Baptist Church.

He is survived by one daughter, Ann Lott of Kingston, Jamaica; and three sisters, Edna Cowan of Decatur, Jeanette Simpson of Huntsville and Marguerite Putman of Florida; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were Ronald Jones, J. H. Williams, Herman Sanderson, Wendall Cowart, Harlon Joiner and Tommy Joiner.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the No. 2 Sunday School class of Moulton Baptist Church.

Rubert W. Campbell

76, retired TVA, Town Creek

A graveside service was held for Rubert W. Campbell on Wednesday, May 7, 3 p.m., at Elmwood Cemetery in Town Creek with the Rev. Hollis Retherford officiating and Morrison Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Campbell died Monday, May 5, 1997, at Helen Keller Hospital of cancer.

He was born in Town Creek. Mr. Campbell was a World War II veteran, a member of First Baptist Church of Town Creek and a Free and Accepted Mason at Town Creek Lodge No. 361.

Survivors include one stepson, Don McGuyer of Sheffield; two stepdaughters, Barbara Kimbrell of Tuscumbia and Betty Hines of Muscle Shoals; three brothers, Lloyd Campbell of Town Creek, Henry Campbell of Decatur and T. R. Campbell of Leighton; two sisters, Ophelia C. Harbin of Town Creek and Eva C. Coffee of Decatur; four stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

Masons were the pallbearers.

Clark Lentz

83, retired store owner, Trinity

Funeral for Clark Lentz was held Wednesday, May 7, 2 p.m., at Rideout's Brown-Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Standridge officiating.

Burial was in the Caddo Cemetery in Lawrence County.

Mr. Lentz died Monday, May 5, 1997, at home.

He was born in Morgan County. Mr. Lentz worked 17 years for Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp. and owned and operated a grocery store and service station for 23 years. He was a member of the Caddo Congregational Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma Runager Lentz; three daughters, Ann Looney and Lila Tucker, both of Decatur and Elizabeth Sharp of Trinity; two brothers. Q. R. Lentz and Barkley Lentz, both of Caddo; five sisters, Ruby Fuller and Clara Phelps, both of Hartselle, Anna Raye Lammon of Trinity, Margaret Brown of Montgomery and Sara Pearl Counts of Kingford, Ind.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Grandsons were pallbearers.

Gilvester D. Woods

41, production Prestolite, Hillsboro

Funeral for Gilvester D. Woods was held Thursday, May 8, 3 p.m., at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. B. L. Burgess officiating and Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Woods died Monday, May 5, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

She was born in Lawrence County to Robert Pointer and Jim Ella Williams. Mrs. Woods was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board and was in the choir.

Survivors include her husband, Connie Woods; one son, Christopher Woods of Hillsboro; three daughters, Coretta Pointer and Marilyn Priest, both of Decatur, and Catrina Woods of Hillsboro; her mother of Decatur; six brothers, John Pointer, Lemon Pointer, Robert Pointer, Edward Pointer and Jesse Williams, all of Decatur and Eddie Pointer of Louisville, Ky.; five sisters, Fannie Pointer, Mary Pointer, Bertha Bynum, Debra Carter and Shirley Malone, all of Decatur; 11 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Bobby Elliott, Robert Swoopes Jr., Elmer Mosley, Willie Mosley, Carl Mosley and Tommy Hill.

Vernon Clay Robertson Sr.

77, retired, Oxford

Vernon Clay Roberson Sr. died Tuesday, May 6, 1997, at his residence.

The funeral was held Friday, May 9, 11 a.m., at Miller Funeral Home with Joe Vaughan officiating.

Burial was in the Coldwater Baptist Cemetery in Oxford.

Mr. Roberson was a resident of Oxford for 41 years. He was a member of Dodson Memorial Presbyterian Church. Mr. Roberson was disabled in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II while serving under Patton. He then worked and retired from the Annison Star in 1985.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Hurst Roberson; one son, Dave A. Roberson of Munford; one sister, Margie Reed of Sheffield; one brother, Kyle Roberson of Brundidge; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were Toby Hill, John Hardyman, Elton Sneed, Bobby Roberson, Bobby Whatley, Dennis Reeder and Jimmy Reed.

Betty Joyce Cartee Crum

45, homemaker, Moulton

Betty Crum died Sunday, May 18, 1997, of cancer, at her residence.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 20, 2 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Lavanuel Sherrill officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

She was born in Lawrence County tp Paul and Erdean Terry Cartee, also of Moulton.

Survivors include her husband, Francis (Frank) L. Crum; one son, Stacy J. Sherrill of Decatur; her parents; two brothers, Amos Cartee and Larry Cartee, both of Moulton; three sisters, Anita J. Gibson, Rita Theodorou and Trinda Hill, all of Moulton; and her grandmother, Eula Cartee of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Jerome Theodorou, Ashley Bradford, Jason Cartee, Dennie Goodlett, Scott Cartee and Lamar Sparkman.

Lassie Lee Long Pierce

89, homemaker, Town Creek

Funeral for Lassie Lee Long Pierce was held Tuesday, May 20, 3:30 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home chapel with Dexter Rutherford officiating.

Burial was in the Landersville Cemetery.

Mrs. Pierce died Monday, May 19, 1997, at National Healthcare in Moilton.

She was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Hatton Church of Christ. She was the widow of Frank Pierce.

Survivors include one daughter, Helen Rutherford of Town Creek; one sister, Edna Pierce of Town Creek; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mel Eddy, Robby Moomaw, Tracy Pool, Chris Pool, Shannon Terry and Bill Barrett.

Helen Jeffers

55, realtor, Decatur

Funeral services for Helen Jeffers were held Tuesday, May 20, 2 p.m., at Grant St. Church of Christ with Mike King and Ralph Stout officiating.

Burial was in the Burningtree Cemetery in Decatur with Ridout's-Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Jeffers died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

She was born in Morgan County and was a member of Grant St. Church of Christ.

Survivors include her husband, Harold Jeffers; one son, Todd Jeffers of Huntsville; one daughter, Melanie Toranto of Birmingham; her parents, E. D. and Elizabeth Montgomery of Moulton; two sisters, Hilda Terry of Moulton and Wilda Frost of Decatur; one brother, Larry Wayne Montgomery of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Ralph Slate, Charles Riley, Randell Webb, Scott Terrell, Mitch Montgomery and Julious Barrett.

Memorials may be made to the Amercian Cancer Society.
