Funeral for Dewey T. Long was held Wednesday, May 21, 2 p.m., at Pleasant Hill Congregational Methodist Church with Bro. David Phillips officiating.

Burial was in the Loosier Cemetery in Town Creek with Akins Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Long died Sunday, May 18, 1997, at Carraway Hospital in Birmingham.

He was a Lawrence County native. Mr. Long was retired from HPL, IL of Illinois. He was a World War II veteran. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his wife, Helen L. Long.

Survivors include four sons, Willard Long of Aurora, Ohio, Billy Long of Cottondale, Bobby Long of Town Creek and Scott Long of Perryville, Ark.; seven daughters, Betty Ergle and Kathy Morgan, both of Phil Campbell, Charlotte May of Pontiac, Mich., Joyce Castro and Debbie Long, both of Chicago, Ill. and April Peoples of Perryville; three sisters, Gladys Ledford of Nashville, Opal Miller of Chicago and Audrey McDonald of Illinois; 24 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Grandsons were the pallbearers.

Martha Faye Dawson

56, Town Creek

Martha Faye Dawson died on Thursday, May 15, 1997, at Eliza Coffee Hospital in Florence.

The funeral was held Sunday, May 18, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Revs. Carl Gaston and Edward Hood officiating.

Burial was in the Union Hill Cemetery.

She was born in Lawrence County to Hiram and Velma Cook. Mrs. Dawson was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jake Dawson; a son, Larry Dawson of Town Creek; one brother, Robert Cook of Tuscaloosa; two sisters, Patsy Montgomery of Decatur and Pam Folz of Delaware; and one grandson.

Pallbearers were Keith Cameron, John Love, Cliff Jones, James Montgomery, Tony Dawson and Greg White.

Charles Chaney

47, truck driver, Town Creek

Funeral for Charles Chaney who died Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at Northwest Medical Center, was held Friday, May 16. The 2 p.m. service was held at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Larry Crumpton officiating.

Burial was in the Mt. Hope United Methodist Cemetery.

Mr. Chaney was born in Lawrence County. He was a truck driver for Shelby Construction and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Chaney; five sons, Chad Chaney, Eric Chaney and Shane Whitworth, all of Town Creek, Terry Chaney of Giddens, Texas and Jerry Chaney of LaGrange, Ga.; two daughters, Penny Chaney of Town Creek and Kristi Wilson of Somerville; his parents, Flora Chaney and Alfred Chaney of Russellville; three brothers, Ray Chaney, Grady Chaney and J. R. Chaney, all of Russellville; two sisters, Mable Peoples of Moulton and Gertrude Borden of Russellville; one grandchild; and his grandmother, Mary Borden of Moulton.

Pallbearers were Anthony Whitworth, Jerramie Borden, Joe Webb, George Brannan, Robert Jones, Ronald Gibson and Jeff York.

Hazelle Burch

90, sawmill manager, Moulton

Funeral for Hazelle Burch was held Monday, May 19, 10 a.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with Don Laymon officiating.

Burial was in the Landersville Cemetery.

Ms. Burch died Saturday, May 17, 1997, at Lawrence Baptist Medical Center.

She was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ.

She is survived by several relatives.

Pallbearers were Larry Latham, Dempsey Berryman, Bruce Newton, Bob Newton, Lelon Henson and James Latham.

Thrice Woods

40, Town Creek

Funeral arrangements for Thrice Woods, who died Friday, May 16, 1997, in Decatur, will announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Mary Lee Witt

81, homemaker, Mount Hope

Funeral for Mary Lee Witt was held Tuesday, May 27, 3 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Roger Houston officiating.

Burial was in the Old Bethel Cemetery in Colbert County.

She died Sunday, May 25, 1997, at National Healthcare Center in Moulton.

Miss Witt was born in Lawrence County to Claude and Annie Belle Harris Witt Sr. She was a Christian and a charter member of New Zion Baptist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Walter Witt of Courtland; two sisters, Juanita Jeffreys and Annie Mae Owens, both of Town Creek.

Pallbearers were Max Witt, Danny Jeffreys, Billy Joe Wimberly, Butch Walker, Clay Duncan and Willard Hagood.

Lisa Ann Pettus

37, Town Creek

Lisa Ann Pettus died Thursday, May 22, 1997, from injuries received in an automobile accident.

The funeral was held Sunday, May 25, 2 p.m., at Elkins East Funeral Home chapel with Brother Phil Russell, pastor of First Baptist Church of Town Creek, officiating.

Burial was in the Pettus Cemetery in Lexington.

She was a 1978 graduate of Grace Baptist High School and attended Calhoun Community College. Miss Pettus was a member of the First Baptist Church in Town Creek, where she was a member of the Single Adult Sunday School Class. She also assisted in local elections. Miss Pettus was preceded in death by her father, William Henry Pettus.

Survivors include her twin sister, Resa Bea Pettus Self of Huntsville; aunts, uncles and cousins.

Pallbearers were cousins and deacons from the First Baptist Church in Town Creek. Deacons also served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lawrence County Chapter.

Elaine King Pettus

73, Town Creek

Elaine King Pettus died Thursday, May 22, 1997, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

The funeral was held Sunday, May 25, 2 p.m., at Elkins East Funeral chapel with Brother Phil Russell, pastor of First Baptist Church in Town Creek, officiating.

Burial was in the Pettus Cemetery in Lexington.

Mrs. Pettus was born and raised in Lauderdale County and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Town Creek, where she was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, active with the Home Extension Service in Moulton and served her community in various ways, including assisting in local elections. Mrs. Pettus was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Pettus.

Survivors include her daughter, Resa Pettus Self of Huntsville; one sister, Louise Kinf Butler of Rogersville; two brothers, William E. King of Guntersville and John Hiram King of Arab; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were nephews and deacons from the First Baptist Church in Town Creek. Deacons also served as honorary pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Lawrence County Chapter.

Carl Junior McElwaney

70, Atlanta

A memorial service waS held for Carl Junior McElwaney, Wednesday, May 28, 11 a.m., at Wages & Son Funeral Home chapel in Stone Mountain, Ga., with Major William Powell S. A. officiating.

Mr McElwaneny died Monday, May 26, 1997.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley McElwaney; three sons, Ricky McElwaney, Moulton, Tim McElwaney, Decatur and Randy McElwaney of Oveido, Fla.; four daughters, Vicky McElwaney of Smyrna, Ga., Gail Adams of Moulton, Rhonda McElwaney of Atlanta and Cindy Childers of Danville; three sisters, Dora Slaton of Tyrone, Ga., Irene Stokes of Palmetto, Ga., and Catherine Bryant of Newman, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Thrice Devon Woods

40, 3M employee, Town Creek

Funeral for Thrice Devon Woods, who died Friday, May 16, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Wednesday, May 21, noon, at Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Miller officiating.

Burial was in the Troupe Cemetery with Reynolds Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Woods was born in Lawrence County. He worked in the film department at 3M. Mr. Woods was a member of Red Bank Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Hazlewood High School.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Woods; two sons, Priest Woods of Hanceville and Andre woods of Town Creek; two daughters, Latorya Woods and Ratorya Woods, both of Town Creek; his mother, Lillie Marie Woods of Town Creek; one brother, Thrise Woods of Town Creek; two sisters, Shearon Willingham and Kimberly Woods, both of Town Creek; and his grandmothers, Letha Lipscomb and Regina Malone, both of Town Creek.

Classmates and co-workers were the pallbearers.

Omie Florence Parker

90, homemaker, Moulton

Funeral for Omie Florence Parker was held Monday, May 26, 2 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Pullen and Joel Jones officiating.

Burial was in the Providence Cemetery with Elliott Funeral Home directing.

Mrs. Parker died Saturday, May 24, 1997, at National Healthcare in Moulton.

She was born in Lawrence County to William Henry and Nancy Oliver Parker.

Survivors include four sons, Dewey Parker of Town Creek, Archie Parker of Sheffield, Rapheal Parker of Phil Campbell and Braxton Parker of Moulton; one daughtrt, Mary Jane Jones of Moulton; and 26 grandchildren.

Grandsons were the pallbearers.
