He was born in Morgan County and was pastor at Ebenezer CME Church at Campground. He was a member of Oakville Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Griffin; five sons, Theon Griffin, Cliff Griffin, Jonathan Warren and Orlandus Griffin, all of Decatur and Maurice Taylor of Danville; five daughters, Vonda Duckworth of Berea, Ohio and Belinda Griffin, LaTonya Lockett, Wanda Griffin and Tashara Griffin, all of Decatur; his father, Clifton Griffin of Hartselle; two brothers, Warren Griffin of Hartselle and Gary Taylor of Oakville; three sisters, Bobbie Taylor of Massey, Eunice Orr of Hartselle and Doris Sharpley of Decatur; and 17 grandchildren.
Emmett Randolph Sr.

Emmett Randolph Sr. died Tuesday, July 8, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.
The funeral was held Saturday, July 12, noon, at Thompson and Son Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. David T. Young officiating.
Burial was in the Jackson Cemetery in Muscle Shoals.
Mr. Randolph was born in Colbert County and lived in Pittsburg and Decatur before moving to North Courtland about 32 years ago.
He is survived by three sons, Emmett Randolph Jr. of North Courtland, Levi Randolph of Madison and David Lee Randolph of Van Cleve, Miss.; one sister, Millie Reynolds of Russellville; and four grandchildren.

Funeral for Billy Tidwell Terry, who died Monday, July 7, 1997, at his home, was held Friday, July 11, 11 a.m., at Shelton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Keenum officiating.

Mr. Terry was born in Lawrence County. He also worked as an auto body painter.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Terry; five sons, Robert K. Yost of Danville, Trinity Lane Terry and Todd Hobbs, both of Grand Island, Neb. and D. J. Terry and Opie Terry, both of Chicago; seven daughters, Traci Lynn Terry, Tonya Cox and Tamela Tickle, all of Grand Island, Shelia Joyce Terry of Chicago and Trixie Roy, Sonja Tazzlo and Roxanna Hill, all of Denver; four brothers, Glendon Dwight Carpenter of Decatur, Troy Lendon Carpenter and Danny Keith Carpenter, both of Athens and Terry Don Carpenter of Trinity; two sisters, Brenda Ryder and Mary Ann Gatlin, both of Trinity; and 16 grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jerry Pittman, Jimmy Dale Summerford, Timmy Don Carpenter, Michael Carpenter, Dustin Carter and Bobby Ryder.

Funeral for Wilbur Montgomery, who died Monday, July 14, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Tuesday, July 15, 10 a.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home with the Revs. Elmer Fowler and Jackie Shelton officiating.
Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.
Mr Montgomery was born in Lawrence County to John and Sally Montgomery. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.
He is survived by a sister, Lassie Henderson of Moulton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Mitchell, Ryan Montgomery, Larry Jacobs, Phillip Huggins, and Joel Preston.
Pasquell O'Neal "P.O." Hooie

Funeral for Pasquell O'Neal Hooie was held Wednesday, July 16, 10 a.m., at Roselawn Funeral Home chapel with Mike Nix officiating.
Burial was in the Limestone Memorial Cemetery in Athens.
Mr. Hooie died Monday, July 14, 1997, in Moulton.
He was born in Lauderdale County. Mr. Hooie was a member of Midway Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Catherine Hooie; a son, Steve Hooie of Grant; two daughters, Judy Raney of Decatur and Lorna Standridge of Trinity; three sisters, Jewel Springer, Violet Fairbanks and Jane Fields, all of Decatur; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Nephews were the pallbearers.

Funeral for Willie May Freeman, who died Tuesday, July 15, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Sunday, July 20. The 2 p.m. service was held at Living Way Apostolic Church in Courtland with the Rev. Ernest Clay officiating.
Burial was in the Decatur City Cemetery with Sharpley Funeral Home directing.
Mrs. Freeman was born in Madison County to Beasley and Mattie Mae Surles. She was owner of Freeman's Day Care and a member of Living Way Apostolic Church, where she was president of the pastors aide and usher board. Previously, she had been a member of Union Grove Primitive Baptist Church for 15 years. She was the widow of Perry Freeman.
Survivors include one son, Perry C. Freeman of Decatur; two daughters, Evangeline Banks and Gloria Banks, both of Decatur; four brothers, Howard Hughes and Beasley Surles, both of Akron, Ohio; Robert Surles of Ranger, Texas and Ernest Surles of San Diego; four sisters, Buel Walker and Jean Fugh, both of Chattanooga, Shirley Valentine and Patricia Jones, both of Huntsville; 13 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Allen, Rev. Sterling Crayton, John Thomas Ellison, Edd Griffin, Erister Mason, Rev. John Viers and Henry Robinson.

Mr. Howlet died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at University Hospital in Birmingham.
He was born in Lawrence County.
Survivors include two sons, Bennie Howlet and Benjamin Howlet, both of Town Creek; two daughters, Joyce Bates of Muscle Shoals and Nicole Howlet of Town Creek; three brothers, Tommie Allen of Town Creek, Roosevelt Allen of Waukegan, Ill. and Willie Bee Howlet of Detroit, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews.
Willie Jean Frederick

Funeral for Willie Jean Frederick, who died Sunday, July 20, 1997, was held Wednesday, July 23. The 10 a.m. service was held at Spry Funeral with Jimmy Brewer officiating.
Burial was in the Rocky Top Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Frederick was born in Lawrence County to the late William and Birdie Peters, and was a former resident of Franklin County. She was a member of Rocky Top Freewill Baptist Church in Marion County.
Survivors include her husband, William Lee Hill Sr.; two sons, William Lee Hill Jr. of New York and Ricky Hill of Buck Head; one daughter, Rebecca Bretherick of Florence; two sisters, Charlene Mitchell of Phil Campbell and Irene Borden of Hatton; two brothers, Raymond Peters of Hamilton and Ed Peters of Moulton; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Nephews and grandsons were the pallbearers.
James McAden "Mac" Peebles Sr.

James McAden "Mac" Peebles Sr. died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at Nashville Veterans Hospital.
The funeral was held Tuesday, July 22, 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Emily Barker and Dr. Bill Cooper officiating.
Burial was in the Wilkes Cemetery in Culleoka Community with Oakes and Nichols Funeral Directors in Columbia directing.
He was born in Culleoka Community to Thomas H. Peebles Sr. and Elizabeth Arnold Peebles. Mr. Peebles attended Maury County Schools and was a 1938 graduate of Columbia Military Academy. He earned a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University in 1942. Mr. Peebles, while at Vanderbilt, served as president of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity in 1941 and was selected to ODK. He was also co-captain of the Vanderbilt Commodore football team.
He was a Captain in the U.S. Army and received a Purple Heart while serving during the European Theatre of Operations. Mr. Peebles was a member of the Army All-Star football teams in the U.S. and Europe. After serving in the Army, he played professional football with the Washington Redskins from 1946 to 1951.
Following his retirement from Professional football, he entered the teaching and coaching profession and served on staff at the University of Maryland, University of the South, Riverside Military Academy, Columbia Military Academy and secondary schools in Gallatin, Nashville, Covington and Columbia.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and served as a member of various church choirs and as a soloist for many years. Mr. Peebles was a member of the Vanderbilt All-Star Alumni Association, Promise Keepers, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post # 19, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Football League Players Association and Columbia Military Academy Alumni Association.
Survivors include his wife, Nelle Gilchrist Peebles; a daughter, Betty Peebles Chapman of Columbia; a son, James Mc Aden Peebles Jr. of Princeton, New Jersey; one grandson; nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Arnold Peebles, Regen Peebles, Paul McAden Peebles, Thomas H. Peebles IV, B. Peebles, John Peebles, Davis Mitchell, David Skillington, Paul Willis, Jamie Wade, Al Wade Jones, Dr. William Stone, Dan Bland, James Webb, Chuck Stecker, Page Chamberlain, and Dr. Susan Wodicka.

Thomas E. "Ned" Anderson died Saturday, July 19, 1997.
The funeral was held Tuesday, July 22, 11 a.m., at First Baptist Church with the Rev. W. K. Stephenson officiating.
Burial was in the Roselawn Cemetery with Rideout's Brown Service Funeral Home directing.
Mr. Anderson, who developed Burningtree Country Club and Golf Course, was a businessman, farmer, antique and restoration consultant and land developer. He was born in Athens.
Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Morgan Anderson.
He is survived by two sons, Thomas F. Anderson and David W. Anderson, both of Decatur; his stepmother, Hazel McCaghren Anderson of Decatur; one brother, Robert W. Anderson of Decatur; two sisters, Elizabeth A. Ashwander of Decatur and Jo A. Mazur of Pittsburgh; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Fred Sittason, Billy Payne, Jack Anderson, Frank Wiley, A. J. Coleman and Lep Wenzler. Judge David Bibb was honorary pallbearer.
