Clifton L. "Buddy" Phillips

82, former Trinity mayor, Decatur

Funeral for Clifton L. "Buddy" Phillips, who died Saturday, July 19, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital, was held Monday, July 21. The 11 a.m. service was held at Parkway Funeral Home with John Clotfelter and Neal Culberson officiating.

Burial was in the Decatur City Cemetery.

Mr. Phillips was born in Morgan County to the late Rube and Catherine Phillips. He served one term as mayor and 19 terms as a councilman. Mr. Phillips was a retired farmer and former co-owner of Puddy and Buddy Shell service station. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Decatur Moose Lodge. Mr. Phillips was also a member of the Alabama Farm Bureau board of directors.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Hames Phillips; one son Reuben F. Phillips of Louisville, Ky.; one daughter, Anna Jacobson of San Diego; one sister, Beulah Bowling of Trinity; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nephews were the pallbearers.

Memorial may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church building Fund.

Sarah E. Lynch

82, Moulton

Funeral arrangements for Sarah E. Lynch, who died Wednesday, July 16, 1997, at Parkway Medical Center Hospital, will be announced by Reynolds Funeral Home.

Grady Michael "Mike" Rose

42, retired, Hartselle

Funeral for Grady Michael "Mike" Rose, son of sheriff and Mrs. Grady Rose, was held Monday, July 28. The 1:30 p.m. service was held at Hartselle Church of Christ with Bernard Dawes and Bill Brazier officiating.

Burial was held in Mount Zion Cemetery with Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Rose died Saturday, July 26, 1997, at his home, after a three year battle with cancer.

He was born in Morgan County to Grady B. and Margie Jean Brackin Rose. Mr. Rose was a retired maintenance worker with the U.S. Postal Service. He was a Hazlewood High School graduate and a member of Falkville Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Jenny Rose; three daughters, Mandy Rose, Nikki Rose, and Lang Rose, all of Hartselle; his parents of Town Creek; one brother, Johnathan Mark Rose of Town Creek; and his grandmother, Lucille Brackin of Town Creek.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Edney, Steve Posey, Jerome Jaggers, Benny Price, Charles Avery Rose, David Newton, Steve Brackin and Jimmy Rose.

Honorary pallbearers were Postal Service employees and law enforcement friends.

Warren Guy Hatton

75, furnace operator, Russellville

Warren Guy Hatton died Friday, July 25, 1997, at Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield.

The funeral was held Sunday, July 27, 2:30 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with the Revs. Carl Gaston, Mike Smith, Mike McCullough and Hollis Retherford officiating.

Burial was in the Masterson Cemetery.

Mr. Hatton was born in Lawrence County to Richard and Mary Hatton. He retired from Reynolds Metal Co. after 33 years of service. Mr. Hatton was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Lansdell Hatton; one son, Tommy Hatton of Hatton; five daughters, Wanda Vandiver of Muscle Shoals, Judy Martin and Lasheri Hatton, both of Hatton, Sherry Hubbard of Red Bay and Paulette Murphy of Decatur; one brother, Q. W. Hatton of Hatton; one sister, Offie Ann McCormack of Leighton; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Ussery Etheridge, Billy Green, Woodie Jeffries, Jack Boyd, Leroy Kaiser, Frank Pasley and Rudy Beck.

Nephews were honorary pallbearers.

Autumn Alexis Young Hall

A graveside service was held for Autumn Alexis Young Hall of Courtland on Thursday, July 24, at 11 a.m., in the Courtland Cemetery. The Rev. Gregory Woods officiated and Reynolds Funeral Home directed.

The infant died Sunday, July 20, 1997, at University Hospital in Birmingham. She was born July 8, 1997, in Lawrence County.

Survivors include her parents, Labryant Hall and Tina Renay Young, both of Courtland; one brother, Tevyn Young of Courtland; one sister, Alexandra Young of Courtland; her grandparents, Larry Hall of Marion, Ohio, Willodean Garth and Valerie Young, both of Courtland and Otis Young of Florida; her stepgrandfather, Willie Garth of Courtland; and three great-grandmothers.

Leoda Cramer

69, retired cook, Decatur

Funeral for Leoda Cramer will be held Friday, August 1, 2 p.m., at Ridout's Brown Service Funeral Home.

Burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Lawrence County.

She died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at her residence.

Survivors include two sons, Christopher Wallace of Decatur and Neal Wallace of Paw Paw, Mich.; five daughters, Kathy Webb, Kay Bigelow, Jean Ailes and Barbara Mohney, all of Kalamazoo and Carol Jach of Mattawan, Mich.; two sisters, Opehelia Mayfield and Evelyn McCarley, both of Decatur; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Melvin F. Roden

53, laborer foreman, Town Creek

Funeral for Melvin F. Roden, who died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Medical Center Shoals, was held Thursday, July 24. The 2 p.m. service was held at Elliott Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Johnson officiating.

Burial was in the Donald Cemetery near Town Creek.

He was born in Lawrence County. Mr. Roden was a Vietnam veteran, a member of New Center Baptist Church and worked for Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant until 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Roden; four daughters, Melanie Gaston and Vicki Rutherford, both of Moulton, Pam Weeks of Russellville and Melissa Roden of Town Creek; one stepson, Ricky Terry of Town Creek; two stepdaughters, Rita West of Mount Hope and Bonnie Napolean of Madison; two brothers, James Ray Roden of Mississippi and Carl Clayton of Florence; two sisters, Shirley Bagwell of Piedmont and Lucille Roden of Decatur; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Rawleigh Garner, Ricky West, Dave Napolean, Ricky Terry, Lendon Jackson and Donnie Terry.

Virginia McMeans Alexander

81, nurse, Moulton

Funeral for Virginia McMeans Alexander was held Friday, July 25, 2 p.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with Hoyt Nelson officiating.

Burial was in the Romine Cemetery in Rogersville.

Mrs. Alexander died Tuesday, July 22, 1997, at Limestone Health Facility.

She was born in Rogersville. Mrs. Alexander was a graduate of Vanderbilt University wit a bachelor's degree in nursing and was a U.S. Army nurse in World War II. She was the widow of Dr. William Wallace Alexander.

Survivors include one brother, James McMeans of Douglasville, Ga.; and one sister, Ruby Peter of Athens.

Pallbearers were Joseph Garner, Craig Boody, Paul Boody, Douglas Grubbs, Tommy Hartselle and Don Killen.

Atrice M. Counts

93, homemaker, Town Creek

Funeral for Atrice M. Counts was held Friday, July 25, 11 a.m., at Elliott Funeral Home with Howell Bigham officiating.

Burial was in the Moulton Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Counts died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Columbia Hospital in Muscle Shoals.

She was born in Lawrence County and was a member of Hatton Church of Christ. Mrs. Counts was the widow of J. Dan Counts.

Survivors include three sons, Culton Counts of Pinson, Foy D. Counts and Dalton R. Counts, both of Town Creek; one daughter, Bobbye Sue Counts of Town Creek; two sisters, Ester B. Rutherford of Town Creek and Opal Dale Bain of Moulton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Charles Rutherford, Jack Montgomery, Christopher D. Counts, Roderick Counts, Ronnie Levan, Ronnie Sanford, Larry Tatum and Scott Levan.

Wyman Hamilton

70, retired auto body mechanic, Town Creek

A graveside service was held for Wyman Hamilton on Saturday, July 26, 10 a.m., at Moulton Memory Gardens with the Rev. Sam Wallace officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Hamilton died Thursday, July 24, 1997, at Medical Park Convalescent Center in Decatur.

He was born in Lawrence County to David and Pearl Hamilton. He retired from Hamilton's Used Cars and Parts in Moulton in 1990.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Beck Hamilton; three sons, Larry Hamilton, Danny Hamilton and Dennis Hamilton, all of Niles, Mich.; three daughters, Melba Mitchell, Sharon Davis and Nella Ralston, all of Niles, Mich.; two brothers, Billy Hamilton of Moulton and Theo Hamilton of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two sisters, Carolyn Gentry of Moulton and Fannie Lee Wright of Birmingham; and 14 grandchildren.

Nephews were pallbearers.

Flossie Jeffreys

78, homemaker, Mount Hope

Flossie Jeffreys died Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Decatur General Hospital.

The funeral was held Saturday, July 26, 2 p.m., at Lawrence Funeral Home with Howell Bigham and Dexter Rutherford officiating.

Burial was in the Masterson Cemetery in Hatton.

Mrs Jeffreys was born in Lawrence County to Granville and Lucy Ann Landers. She was a member of Hatton Church of Christ. Mrs. Jefferys is the widow of Denzil Jeffreys.

Survivors include three sons, Donald Sutton of Hartselle, Phillip Jerffreys of Town Creek and Victor Jeffreys of Mount Hope; two daughters, Jean Heaps of Mount Hope and Margie Christian of Decatur; a sister, Gladys Carpenter of Moulton; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Nephews were the pallbearers.
