A private graveside service for James Morris Williams, 91, of the Merrellton community, was at 4 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Scott-Williams Cemetery. Folsom- Mickelsen Funeral Home of Piedmont directed.
Mr. Williams died Jan. 21 in Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Williams; a son, Dawson Lytelle “Lee” Williams of Nashville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Tom Meloun of Gadsden, Ruth and Jimmy Headrick and Rebecca McCain of Piedmont and Teresa and Richard Adcock of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren, Julie McMillian of Southside, Melanie Winters of Seattle, Kelly LaPier of Piedmont, David McMillian of Tuscaloosa, James Ledbetter and Jason Ledbetter of Jacksonville, Gary Williams of Woodstock, Ga., Erica Pinion of Alabaster and Naval Petty officer 2nd Class Brian Williams of Bridgeport, Maine; eight great-grandchildren, Sara Headrick, Andrew McMillian, Diana, Crystal, and Lucas Ledbetter, Justin Ledbetter, Bradley Pridgeon and Ethan McCain; two sisters, Lela Mae Williams of Piedmont and Orelia Johnson of Southside and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Williams, a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County, served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He retired from Anniston Ordnance Depot after 32 years service as an automotive electrician. He enjoyed reading and gardening and was a member of the Assembly of Yahweh.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, J. B. and Vennah Williams; a son, Claude Johnson; three sisters, Clara Trantham, Emely Dean Erwin and Jeanette Lane; four brothers, Edward, Lytelle Ernest and Smith Williams and his first wife, Charlotte Vera Burton Williams.
BITTLE

Services for Jerry Wayne Bittle, 55, of Oxford were at 11 a.m. Feb. 4 at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Riddle officiating. Burial was in Coldwater Baptist Cemetery. Miller Funeral Home directed.
Mr. Bittle died Feb. 1 at his residence.
Survivors include a son, Wayne Bittle of Oxford; a daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and David Ray of Jacksonville; four sisters, Ruby Baxter and Betty Chapman of Alexandria, Margaret Potts of Jacksonville and Emma Jean Peace of Talladega; a brother, James Bittle of Saks; and three grandchildren, Madison Harrison, Braden Ray and Blake Ray.
He was preceded in death by his parents Cecil and Frances Bittle.
Pallbearers were Myron Ford, Butch Thrasher, Wallace Gallahar, Jon Walden, David Ray and Jon Burns. Honorary pallbearers were Howard Walden and Clint Gallahar.
Mr. Bittle was a lifelong Oxford resident. He was a member of Eastaboga Church of Christ He was employed by Honda Manufacturing in Lincoln.
JOHNSON

Services for Charles W. Johnson, 85, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with George Boboian officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson died Feb. 3 at his home.
Survivors include three sons, David Johnson, Michael Johnson and Greg Johnson of Jacksonville; five daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Philip Burton, Barbara and Benny Jennings, Linda and Milford Stringfellow, and Kathy and Michael Wilkinson of Jacksonville and Diann and Gary Stephens of Florida; grandsons and their spouses, Jeffrey Parker of Heflin, Brad and Dottie Parker of Eastaboga, Scott Jennings and Jevin Burton of Jacksonville; step grandsons and their spouses, Jonathan and Kim Stringfellow of Weaver and Tyler Stringfellow of Birmingham; granddaughters and their spouses, Donna and Todd Hannah of Riverside, Dina and Kevin Jones of Tennessee, Jill and Paul Merithew and Cristi and Scott Schwabe of Jacksonville and Staci and Zac Freeman of Alexandria; great-grandchildren, Chris and Jessica Parker of Dearmanville, Patrick Parker of Heflin, Emily, Tiffany and Brandon Jones of Piedmont, Kelsey Merithew of Jacksonville, Kylie Freeman of Alexandria and Laura Stringfellow of Weaver; two sisters, Doris Shew of Jacksonville and Nadine Garner of Huntsville; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Neal Johnson, Miles and Fannie Johnson and Donald and Rosia Dean Johnson of Jacksonville; two sisters-in-law, Jessie McCarley and Cordell Stancil of North Carolina; caregiver, Jessica Roberson, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Bennett Johnson; his parents, Macon and Enzia (Green) Johnson; a granddaughter, Lori Johnson, and three brothers, Gaston, Dewey, and Leroy Johnson.
Pallbearers were grandsons.
Mr. Johnson was born in Jacksonville on Aug. 18, 1920. He lived in the home that his father built and where his sister, Doris, now resides. He lived in Jacksonville all of his life, with the exception of the time he spent in the Navy during World War II. He loved growing things and planted a big garden each spring, giving most of the produce to family and friends. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed going to Green’s Store.
MATHIS

Services for Grace Emma Mathis, 68, of Piedmont, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at Thankful Baptist Church with Rev. Cedric Duncan officiating. Burial was in Piedmont Memorial Garden.
Miss Mathis died Jan. 28 at her home after a long illness.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherena D. Mathis of Piedmont and Dedra and Michael Culbertson of Fort Polk, La.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Vernon and Joanne Mathis and Donald Mathis of Piedmont; three sisters, Frances Atkins of Jacksonville, Eloise Sharpe of Indianapolis, Ind., and Mildred Lawler of Piedmont; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were members of the Holme Boys Club.
SMITH

Services for Mary Evelyn Smith, 78, were at 11 a.m. Feb. 7 at Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church with Revs. Larry Gardner and Gary Brittain officiating. Burial was in White’s Gap Cemetery. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.
Mrs. Smith died Feb. 10 at UAB Hospital, Birmingham.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Sandra Smith of Trenton, Ga., and Mary and Dave Gaskill of West LaFayette, Ind.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Paul Smith and James Eugene and Carol Smith of Jacksonville; numerous grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Her husband, Samuel Smith, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were members of Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Jacksonville and member of Hatcher Avenue Baptist Church.
LANDERS

Services for Jason Wayne Landers, 34, were at 11 a.m. Feb. 10 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center, with Rev. Bert Breland and Noel Vice officiating. Troy Turner spoke. Burial was in Crestwood cemetery in Gadsden.
Mr. Landers died Feb. 7 at his residence.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Landers; a son, John Cole Landers; his mother and step father, Debbie Landers-Scott and Dennis of Glencoe; his father, Jerry W. Landers of Perdido Key, Fla.; grandparents, Fowler and Jessie Cole of Rome, Ga.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Earnest and Kay Smith of Jacksonville; brothers and sisters-in-law, Brandon and Sheena Landers of Gadsden and Zack Scott of Anniston, Tim and Susan Smith of Celebration, Fla., Tim and Marsha Barry of Jacksonville and Scott and Kathy Noell of Odenville; five nieces and two nephews and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
His grandparents, John O. Landers and Doris Landers of Gadsden preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Tim Smith, Tim Barry, Scott Noell, John Cooper, Eric Cooper and Mark Barfield.
Mr. Landers was a native of Gadsden and a resident of Calhoun County. He attended First Baptist Church. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega at Jacksonville State University. He wrote for several area newspapers including The Anniston Star, The Daily Home in Talladega and Rome (Ga.) News-Tribune and won numerous writing award.
McGINNIS

Services for Margie Evelyn McGinnis, 79, were at 1 p.m. Feb. 11 at Congregational Holiness Church with Revs. William Strickland and Howard Rhodes officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.
Ms. McGinnis died Feb. 8 at UAB Hospital.
Survivors include her brother and sister-in-law, Clifton and Polly McGinnis of Opelika; four nieces, Debra and Phil Woods, Ramona Martin, Kim Almond and Misty Barall-Clements; six nephews, Robert and Peggy Higgins, Rodney Martin, Clif and Jeanella McGinnis, Nathan and Sandra Robin, Kenneth and Carmon Robin and Samuel Barall; three great-nieces; 11 great nephews; and two great-great-nephews; and many cousins.
Her brother, Henry McGinnis, and sisters, Sara Robin and Jean Martin, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers were nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearers were friends, family and church members.
Ms. McGinnis was a lifelong resident of Calhoun County and a member of the Congregational Holiness Church
WILKINS

Services for James Edgar “Sonny” Wilkins Sr., 72, were at 2 p.m. Feb. 12 in the chapel of K. L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Rev. David Daniels and Rev. William Cain officiating. Burial was in Friendship Cemetery.
Mr. Wilkins died Feb. 9 at Jacksonville Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Ingrid R. Wilkins of Jacksonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and David Coggins of Jacksonville, Frieda and Barry Hudgins of Wellington and Heidi and Terry Martin of Iron City; two sons and daughters-in-law, James E. “Jimmy” and Beverly Wilkins of Oxford and Michael D. and Allyson Wilkins of Jacksonville; two sisters, Glenda McWhorter of Anniston and Marjorie Camp of Anniston; two brothers, Carl Wilkins and Jackie Wilkins of Jacksonville; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nine nephews.
His parents, Clifton and Sula Wilkins, and a sister, Lonette Barnwell, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers were Stanley Nelson, Roger Camp, Greg Wilkins, Tim Wilkins, Jeff Wilkins, Larry Joe Barnwell, Randy Camp and Terry Martin.
Mr. Wilkins was a native and resident of Calhoun Coutny most of his life. He served 20 years in the U.S. Army and worked on Keys offshore oil drilling as a cook. He like to play Dominos at Green’s Store and, when he was younger, he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Memorial donations may be made to Tredegar Chapel Congregational Holiness Church Building Fund.
