WILLIS
09-27-2006

Memorial services for Marjorie Faye Willis, 77, of Ashville were at 11 a.m. Sept. 25 in the chapel of K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Elder Jim Browning officiating.

Mrs. Willis died Sept. 22 at her residence.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, John Calvin Willis; three daughters Donna Palmer of Glencoe, Arlene Kennedy of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Sharon Froese of Ocalla, Fla.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Charles Whitehorn and Gurnell Billings of Eads, Tenn.; a brother and sister-in-law, A.L. and Melba Hanks of Counce, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren Shaun (Robert) O’Hearn, Jason (Shannon) Palmer, Ian (Karen) Palmer, Anna (Calvin) Bomar, Nigel Palmer II, Alex Palmer, Dylan Kennedy, Cally (Nate) Gustafson, Emmy Kennedy, Heather (Donnie) Yuen and Josh Froese; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Willis was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Business Women of America, and a trainer in the Boy Scout organization where she earned the Wood Badge award. She loved the outdoors, having hiked the Continental Divide on numerous occasions.

Her passion for wildlife, bluebirds in particular, became a successful Internet business of a 20 year duration, Bluebird Connection.

Her love for life and energy led her and her husband John on many adventures throughout the U.S. She and her husband enjoyed building and remodeling projects.

BUSE

Services for Sheila Joyce Buse, 56, were at 2 p.m. Oct. 1 at New Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Israel officiating. K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.

Mrs. Buse died Sept. 29 at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include her husband, Benny Buse of Jacksonville; her parents, Alice J. Glenn and George M. Glenn of Gadsden; her mother-in-law, Elizabeth Buse of Jacksonville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gina and Jeffery Winkler of Anniston, Kathy and Matthew Reaves of Jacksonville and Tracy and James Ledbetter of Piedmont; a son, Adam Buse and his girlfriend, Cassie Taylor of Jacksonville; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Joe Williams of Birmingham; eight grandchildren, Nick, Roy, George, Diana, Crystal, Lucas, Kaley and Joshua; six nieces and five nephews.

Palbearers were Jeff Winkler, Matt Reaves, James Ledbetter, Jeremy Buse, Jason Buse, Luke Smallwood, Aaron Buse and Roy Watkins.

Mrs. Buse was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and attended new Liberty Baptist Church. She was employed at Wendy’s.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Garry W. Murphree.

CARRIN
10-04-2006

Services for Norman Isdore Carrin, 45, were at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with Revs. Michael G. Rich and Stan Easton officiating, K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center directed.

Mr. Carrin died Sept. 26.

Survivors include his wife, Manuja Jacob-Carrin of Jacksonville; his parents, Bobby and Velma Louise Carrin of Apalachicola, Fla.; a sister, Bobbie Carrin of Apalachicola and two nieces, Crystal Carrin and Lauren Tarrantino.

Mr. Carrin was born in Port St. Joe, Fla., but called Apalachicola his hometown. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he was a graduate of Florida State University and Jacksonville State from which he earned a master’s degree in public administration. He taught as a graduate assistant at JSU and worked as a resident assistant. He was active in community service from an early age and was very active in the Teen Challenge program in Birmingham. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

FINCH

Services for Kevin Samuel Finch were at 2 p.m. Sept. 29 at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Reaves officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery. Chapel Hill Funeral Home directed.

Mr. Finch died Sept. 25 at his residence.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Roland Finch of Jacksonville; a daughter, Ashley Finch of Jacksonville; a son, Casey Finch of Jacksonville; his father, David Wayne Finch of Anniston; his mother, Linda Faye Finch of Anniston; his step-mother, Glenda F. Finch of Anniston; a sister, Nikki Boyd of Anniston; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ronald Wayne and Margo Finch of Jacksonville and Rickey Lee and Delta Finch Alexandria; a brother-in-law, Edward Roland of Talladega and his father- and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Roland of Anniston.

Pallbearers were Scott Traffandstedt, Tony Traffandstedt, Nicholas Traffandstedt, Wayne Traffandstedt, Rickey Traffandstedt, and Ralph Hedrick.

Mr. Finch was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.

GRANT
10-04-2006

A wake for Lynnette Ashley Grant, 18, was from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 29 at Friendship Baptist Church. Services were at 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Grant died Sept. 22.

Survivors include her parents, Roy and Albertha Grant; her brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Marie Grant of Jacksonville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Latonia and Jeffrie Grant of Montgomery and Janeshua and Rodney Newkirk of Charleston, S. C.; her grandmother, Elizabeth Myers of Emporia, Va.; nine aunts; 10 uncles; five nieces; one nephew, and many cousins.

Ms. Grant was born in Jacksonville on Sept. 9, 1988. She grew up in Friendship Baptist Church under the pastoral care of the Rev. J.E. Merriweather. She attended Jacksonville Christian Academy before moving to Camp Zama, Japan, and later to Taegu, Korea. She returned home in June to attend Jacksonville State University.

VANHORN
10-04-2006

Private services for Zora Jean VanHorn, 75, who died Sept. 26 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center were held.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Sylvia Bentley of Anniston; a daughter, Vicky Huey of Jacksonville; a sister, Frances of New York; three grandsons, Shane, Brad and Adam Bentley and two great-granddaughters, Ashlan Gilbert and Reese Bentley.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank VanHorn; a son, Michael Bentley; and a grandson, Jason Huey.

Mrs. VanHorn was a member of West Point Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. She had worked 20 years at Anniston Sportswear and had also worked at Wakefield’s.

WHEELER
10-04-2006

A celebration for the life of Dwight Lester Wheeler, 92, was Oct. 3 at Williams McCracken Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Jones officiating. Burial was in Missionary Grove cemetery in Cullman.

Mr. Wheeler died on Sept. 30 at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include three daughters, Charlotte Weldon, who was also his caretaker for seven years, Reba Helms and Jean Markham; a sister, Doris Chessar; a brother, Bob Wheeler; five grandchildren, Russell Helms, Trina Gamiel, Dudley Markham, Felicia Cain and Ann Daugherty and five great-grandchildren, Wesley Cain, Lucy Helms, Sarah Gamiel, Cora Helms and Patrick Cain.

Pallbearers were Freddie Osborne, Russell Helms, Dudley Markham, Sidney Cain, Mohammed Gamiel, Ryan Daugherty, Johnny Chessar and Danny Weldon.

A native of Cullman, Mr. Wheeler was born on Dec. 15, 1913, the son of the late Jane Lester Wheeler and George William Wheeler. In addition to farming Mr. Wheeler was an experienced electrician and machinist. However, farming and love of the land always remained his passion. Mr. Wheeler was an active member of West Point Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Irene Coggin Wheeler; a brother, Herman Wheeler; two sisters, Louise Walker and Thelma Holmes and a great-granddaughter, Miriam Victoria Gamiel.

Memorial donations may be made to West Point Baptist Church at 140 County Road 1242, Vinemont 35179.

ALLEN
10-11-2006

Services for George Albert Allen, 89, of Jacksonville were at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Jacksonville, with Revs. Marshall Dye and T.R. Harper officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mr. Allen died Friday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation.

Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Allen of Jacksonville; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Ruth and Joel Crook of Jacksonville; a son, Michael Malcolm Allen of Macclenny, Fla.; three sisters, Dorothy Seals and Frances Barber of Villa Rica, Ga., and Agnes Lamanac of Woodstock, Ga.; two brothers, Charles Allen of Villa Rica, Ga., and Luther Allen of South Georgia; nine grandchildren, Alisa Fowler, Dr. Dana Allen, Amy Padgett, Greg Padgett, Timothy Crook, Darrell Crook, Jason Crook, Jeremy Crook, and Josh Crook; 22 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Timothy Crook, Darrell Crook, Jason Crook, Jeremy Crook, Josh Crook and Greg Padgett.

Mr. Allen was a native of Villa Rica, Ga., and a resident of Calhoun County for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Villa Rica Congregational Holiness Church.

CALLAHAN
10-11-2006

Services for Douglas Gordon Callahan, 85, of Wellington were at 11 a.m. Oct. 7 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home with Rev. Deryl Wood officiating. Burial was in Anniston Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Callahan died Oct. 4 in Alexandria.

Survivors include his wife, Lola Callahan of Wellington; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane and Wayne McMichael of Wellington and Pamela Sizemore of Weaver; two step daughters and their husbands, Cassondra and Lloyd Davis of Matthews, N.C., and Diane and Fred Farmer of Saks; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Ann Callahan of Oxford and Jimmy and Becky of Springville; two step sons, Dennis Lambaugh of Wellington and Ronnie Lambaugh of Phenix City; a sister, Margaret Alcorn of Bay City, Mich.; a brother, Boyce Callahan Sr., of Etowah County; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Chris Wells, Reese Wells, Charles Loveless, Tommy Butler, Ladell Johnson and Billy McMichael.

Mr. Callahan was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. He was retired from M&H Valve after 27 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Post Oak Springs Baptist Church.
