ANNISTON — Funeral services for Mr. Harold Donald Gladden, 53, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Mt Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Walter J. Turner officiating. Burial will be at Anniston Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Public visitation will be today at Ervin Funeral Chapel from 1:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Mr. Gladden died August 13, 2008 at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital. He leaves to cherish his memories, two sons, Marlon (Alicia) Gladden, of Helena, and Brandon Taylor, of Chicago, Ill.; three daughters, Nicole (Jerry) Doxie, Krystal (Marcus) King, both of Tucker, Ga., and Lakima English; his mother, Minnie Gladden; seven grandchildren; a devoted friend, Doris Walker; and a host of other relatives and friends. ANNISTON — Jasper Bennett Harper, 82, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at NHC Healthcare. Funeral service for Mr. Harper will be at 12 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at White Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Eric Snider officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday at White Plains Baptist Church.

Pallbearers are Steven Harper, Alex Harper, Paul Harper, Randy Harper, Sparks Harper, and Donnie Ford.

Survivors include two sons, Bennett (Kristy) Harper, of Crossville, Tenn., and Rick (Jan) Harper, of Gadsden; sister, Dollie Cammila Hall, of White Plains; five grandchildren, Steven Harper, Alex Harper, Leslie Walker, Daniel Walker, and Jessica Hendrickson; two great-grandchildren, Samantha Walker and Jake Walker. Mr. Harper was a native and life long resident of the White Plains Community and a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. and Lovetta Harper; four brothers, Merrill Harper, Lamar Harper, Hubert Harper, Fratus Harper, and a sister, Minnie Lee Houck.

JACKSONVILLE — Agnes McVey McNabb came to this country from a small coal-mining town in Scotland with a dream for a better life. She was 18 when she married an Army man and traveled the world while having children. "The years spent raising my children were the best in my life," she used to say. Raising children wasn't enough for this bright Scottish lassie, nay, she attended JSU and graduated with BS and MS degrees. Agnes spent the next 20 years teaching high school English and elementary reading, the joy of her career. Following her retirement, she worked with the Jacksonville Meals on Wheels and served as a "bell ringer" at Christmas for the Salvation Army. She enjoyed helping those less fortunate. For many years, she was a member of the Inter Se Study. Agnes is survived by daughters, Ann McNabb Busby and her husband, Robert, of Falls Church, Va., Beth McNabb Halstead and her husband, Stephen, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Kem McNabb Kendig and children Andy and Katie, of Phoenix, Ariz.; son, Charles Jack McNabb, of Jacksonville and his daughter, Tiya, of Birmingham. A memorial service will be at Saturday, August 16, 2008, at 2 p.m. with visitation from 1 - 2 p.m. at the K.L. Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Center Chapel. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Jacksonville Christian Outreach Center or Hill Crest Baptist Church in Saks.

ANNISTON — Funeral service for Willie Mae Thomas, 76, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, August 16, 2008, at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary Chapel. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 tonight at Gray Brown Service Mortuary. Mrs. Thomas died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include three daughters, Ceresa D. Thomas, Zelda R. Thomas and Christy D. Hughes, all of Anniston; five sons, William E. Thomas, of Ohatchee, Timothy L. Thomas, Tommy T. Thomas, John H. Thomas and Robert W. Thomas, all of Anniston; two sisters, Bonnie Davis, of Piedmont and Liz Watley, of Florida; 36 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Randall Holder, William Carroll, Ty Thomas, Jonathon Golson, Allen Clevenger and Kevin Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was a native and lifelong resident of Calhoun County. She was a member of Victory Word of Faith. Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, William Edward Thomas; sons, Jimmy Thomas, Roy Thomas and Ricky Thomas; daughter, Doris Thomas. BIRMINGHAM — A private graveside service will be at for infant Luna Elizabeth Barnhill who died August 13, 2008 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. Luna is survived by her parents, Justin and Andra Barnhill, of Birmingham, grandparents, Tommy and Margaret Matthews, of Anniston, Andy and Donya Boullemet, of Oxford, Jimmy and Kris Barnhill, of North Carolina; great grandparents, Jean Gendron, of Oxford, Mary Simpson, of Alexandria, Frank and Bobbie Boullemet, of Oxford, Marion Sprayberry, of Anniston, uncle and aunt, Michael and Rebecca Barnhill, of Oxford, and cousins, Kinlea and Kathryn Barnhill. Miller Funeral Home & Crematory will be in charge of arrangements.

PELL CITY — Mr. James Steven "Steve" Bell, 33, died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, in Birmingham.

Survivors include his loving wife, Mrs. Monica D'Anna Bell; mother, Gussie Bell, of Bell City; brothers, Skip (Sandy) Bell, of Uriah, Scott (Gina), of Hope Hull, and Sam Bell, of Pell City. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Bell. Steve attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he played football. He was a member of Pell City First Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Mr. Bell will be at 1 p.m. today, August 16, 2008, at First Baptist Church, Pell City with Father Grey Bean and Dr. John Thweatt officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Usrey Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. "ROLL TIDE"

PIEDMONT — Funeral services for Mrs. Panna Cook Dempsey, 80, will be at 11 a.m. today, August 16, 2008, at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Rudy Ross and Dr. Harris Hand officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Mrs. Dempsey died Thursday, August 14, 2008, at Piedmont Health Care Center. She is survived by one son, Bruce Dempsey (Kaye), of Piedmont; two grandchildren, Andrew Dempsey (Pam) and Holly Dempsey, all of Piedmont; three great-grandchildren, Chandler Armstrong, Claudia Dempsey and Benjamin Dempsey; and two sisters, Jeanette Bryan, of Centre and Nell Baker, of Orlando, Florida.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Dempsey, Dr. John Roy Kirkpatrick, Nathaniel Houston, Thomas Roberts, Pace Armstrong and Danny Wilson. Honorary Pallbearer will be Chandler Armstrong. Mrs. Dempsey was a native and lifelong resident of Piedmont. She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Jacksonville State University. She taught elementary school in the Piedmont City School System for over 30 years. She was an active member of the Piedmont Congregational Methodist Church and was an active supporter of the residents at Piedmont Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hershel V. Dempsey and a daughter, Dawn Dempsey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Piedmont Congregational Methodist Church, P.O. Box 583, Piedmont, Ala. 36272 or to the First United Methodist Church of Piedmont, 300 N. Main Street, Piedmont, Ala. 36272.
