Funeral services for Benjamin Gradey "Buddy" Abbott, 60, of Maplesville, were held on Monday, June 23, 1997, at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Plantersville at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Ralph Smith and Gary Jones officiating. Burial was at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist cemetery with the Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Abbott was born in Chilton County on January 4, 1937 to the late Felton Abbott and Rosie Mae Haigler Abbott. He died at his residence in Maplesville on June 21, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Betty Ann Fisher Abbott, Maplesville; a son, daughter-in-law and daughter, Benjie and Charlene Abbott, Maplesville; Carla Abbott, Maplesville; a granddaughter, Chay Longcrier, Maplesville; two sisters and six brothers, Willie Cahalane, Maplesville; Dot Stough, Birmingham; Earl Abbott, Raymond Abbott, Will Abbott, Billy Abbott, Cecil Abbott and Dough Abbott, all of Maplesville.

\Funeral services for Dorothy Jo Abbott, 53, of Maplesville were July 3, 1998 at Maplesville Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Gatlin and Rev. Art Hartley officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Abbott was born May 9, 1945 in Bibb County to Louise Ferguson and the late Rufus C. Ferguson. She was an assistant lunchroom worker. She died July 1, 1998 at Four Rivers Medical Center in Selma. In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Howard Earl Abbott of Maplesville; a daughter, ReDonna (Jim) Fredricks of Maplesville; two sons: Joe (Rhonda) and Don (Andrea) Abbott, both of Maplesville; two sisters: Sara Neell Oden of Lawley and Gwen Thompson of Randolph; three brothers: Leon Ferguson of Maplesville, Bobby Gene Ferguson of Lawley and Danny Ray Ferguson of Maplesville, and six grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jimmy Stewart, Willis Britt, Jerry Averette, Tony Burnett, Mike Blair and Mark Harrison. Honorary pallbearers were Justin Abbott, Kendall Burnett and Mark Stewart.

Mr. John Thomas Abbott, Jr, 80, passed away Sunday, January 29, 2006 in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness.. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, February 1, at 11:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Pletcher, AL with Rev. Sandy Simmons officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. He is survived by a son, Billy Roger Abbott (Jean) of Prattville, AL; daughter, Shirley Ann (Abbott) Worrell (Charlie) of Selma, AL, daughter, Donna Gail (Abbott) Goray (David) of Jacksonville, AL; former wife, Vera (Popwell) Abbott of Selma, AL and a sister-in-law, Peggy Abbot of Brent, AL; grandchildren, Lance Abbott (Jenny) of Charlotte, MI, Kevin Worrell and fiance Margaret Groves of Tuscaloosa, AL, Lauren (Worrell) Goodwin (Heath) of Prattville, AL, Dustin Walker (Shannon) and Matthew Walker (Kendale) of Jemison, AL, Suzanne (Walker) Popwell of Clanton, AL, Shaina Edwards and Amber Goray of Jacksonville, AL, Tracy (Abbott) Putteet (Ryan) and Stephanie (Abbott) Turner (Jon) of Prattville, AL; greatgrandchildren, Caleb, Corey, Ashton, Abigail, Cheyanne, Mattison, and Katelyn and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Earl Abbott and wife Rosa Lee (Barrett) Abbott, and his sisters, Alma Carter and Ruth Apperson, brothers, Aubrey Abbott and Kent Abbott and of course, his father, John Thomas Abbott, Sr. and mother, Ulnah Dell (Judy) Abbott. He was born in Pletcher, AL on December 23, 1925 and lived there while raising a family for several years and later moved to Selma where he held various positions. His last place of employment before retiring was with Pilliod Cabinet Company in Selma. Mr. Abbott was a veteran of World War II with the 101st Airborne Squadron and received an Honorable Discharge. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Kevin Worrell, Lance Abbott, Dustin Walker, Matthew Walker, Ryan Putteet and Jon Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his friends that he enjoyed playing music with over the years.
Acton, David Marion, 31, of Jemison died Wednesday, September 8, 2010. He was born on Thursday, August 9, 1979 in Montgomery, AL, Son of David R. Acton and Dorothy Acton. He worked in Electronics with the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his Son, David Marion Acton, Jr., South Dakota; Parents, David & Dorothy Acton of Jemison, AL; Sister, Tere (Kevin) Johnson of Clanton, AL; Nephews, Blake & Dustin Johnson of Clanton, AL; Nephew, Aidan Harper of Montevallo, AL. He was preceded in death by his Brother, Michael Jerome Acton; Grandparents, David R. Acton Sr. and Clara Elizabeth Acton; James & Wilma Green. Graveside Services will be held Friday, September 10, 2010, at 10:15 A.M.. at the Alabama National Cemetery, Montevallo, AL. No Flowers, please donate to the funeral fund.

Adams, Anna Byrne
1874 - April 17, 1940
Miss Anna Byrne Adams born Clanton in 1874, died in Tuscaloosa April 17. She was the first woman to be a Graduate of the University of Alabama in the Class of 1895. She was daughter of Late Judge and Mrs. Samuel Adams. Mrs. Adams before her marriage was Miss Ann Mitchell. Miss Anna taught school many years. She is survived by 2 Brothers, Samuel of Atlanta, and David Bell Adams of Clanton Route 2, a number of Nieces including Mrs. N. S. Johnson of Clanton. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery in Birmingham.

Funeral services for Edgar J. Adams, 69, Clanton, were held on Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at Oak Grove Church of God, with Rev. Lonnie Plunkett and Rev. Donnie Messer officiating. Burial followed at Oak grove Church of God cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Adams was born on May 2, 1930 in Chilton County, the son of the late Riley and Victoria Adams. He was a textile worker. He died on Jan. 21, 2000, at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Gloyce Adams, Clanton; two daughters, Carolyn Northcutt, Jemison, and Debra Lewis, Clanton; two sons, Eugene Adams, Clanton, and Darrell Adams, Jemison; two step-daughters, Kerecia Durham and Kay Connell, both of Clanton; one sister, Lorene Kelly, Clanton; one brother, Duvard Adams, Clanton; 16 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist cemetery in Verbena. Born on August 18, 1946 to Jessie Adams and Katie Bell Adams, he died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2003 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Nell Adams of Wetumpka; sons Tommy Adams and Michael Adams of Wetumpka; grandsons Justin Adams of Maplesville, Derrek Adams of Maplesville and James Adams of Wetumpka; brother James Adams of Verbena; sister Edna Graves of Verbena; a host of nieces and nephews.

Burial followed at Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Adkins was born on July 14, 1914 in Coffee County, the son of the late Levy and Julie Adkins. He was a mechanic. He died on Jan. 20, 2000, at Chilton Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Mildred Adkins, Clanton; two sons, Harry Adkins, Clanton, and James Woodrow Adkins, Thorsby; two daughters, Annette Moore, Prattville, Martha Nan Ryan, Daphne, and Verbie Nicholson and Gertha Hall, both of Ariton; 11 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. Laura Aldridge, Wife of G.P. Aldridge, died at her home in Clanton, May 4. Burial Clanton Cemetery, only Brother J. J. Armstrong, one Sister Mrs. Elizabeth Henley, 3 Sons, Will, Walter, and Newton Aldridge, five Daughters, Ida, Lula, Ada, and Essie all married and Miss Kate who lived with her Mother. She had 2 children who had died earlier.

Allen, Hubbard Lorain, age 74, of Coopers, died at local hospital Saturday, November 14. Services were held Monday afternoon at 3:30 at Chestnut Creek, with interment in church cemetery. Rev. L. E. Hand officiating. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Lillian L. Allen of Coopers, step-mother, Mrs. Norma Allen of Coopers; three daughters, Mrs. Laura E. Musser of Lawton, Okla., Mrs. Henrietta Weber of Arcadia, Calif., Mrs. Inez Goodgame of Riverside, Calif; son, Hubbard L. Allen, Jr. of Ornville, Calif.: sister, Miss Janey Allen of Cooper; our brothers, Arden R. Allen of Tuscaloosa, John H. Allen of Mobile, Walker W. Allen of Montgomery, Lane C. Allen of Birmingham: 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Native of Chilton, he was a son of J. T. Allen and Laura McSwain Allen.

Wright, Otis Ivan
1915 - November 19, 2004
Ottis Ivan Wright Services for Ottis Ivan Wright, 89, of Jemison, will be Saturday, November 20 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Lee Prater officiating. Burial will follow in the Mineral Springs Cemetery. Friends will be received today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Wright died Thursday at Hatley Health Care. Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church for Sherman Wright of Billingsley, who died Tuesday in a local hospital. The Rev. Ernest W. Ratliff officiated. Burial was in the Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Mable C. Wright, Billingsley; two daughters, Sallie Seales, Billingsley; Sherilyn Britton, Selma; two sons, Tim Wright, Maplesville; Charles Wright, Billingsley; three sisters, Evie Lou Harrison, Sarah Smitherman, both of Maplesville, and Lilly Nichols, Calera; four brothers, O. V. Wright, Stanton; Allen Wright, Clanton; Norman Wright and Thomas Wright, both of Plantersville and three grandchildren, Jason Seales, Paige Dennis and Brandon Wright.

Thomas Houston Wright, 63, of Plantersville, died Thursday at a local hospital after a lengthy illness. Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Plantersville Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove cemetery with the Rev. Mark Smith officiating. Lawrence Funeral Home directing. He is survived by his wife, Maggie Wright of Plantersville; two daughters, Annie L. Free and Fay Hopkins of Selma; three sons, T. E. Wright of Selma, Walter Wright of Munford and Joe Wright of Plantersville; two sisters, Sarah Smitherman of Maplesville and Lillie B. Nichols of Montgomery; two brothers, Norman Wright of Plantersville and Allen Wright of Clanton; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers include Richard Free, Houston Hopkins, Tommy Wright, Leith Wright, Tommy Owens and Kevin Ferari. The body will lie in state at his residence until time of the funeral.

Funeral services for Walter L. Wright, 89, Clanton, were held on Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Roland Davis officiating. Burial followed at Liberty Hill Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Wright was born on Nov. 25, 1909, in Chilton County, the son of the late Lewis and Zaddie Wright. He was a ceramic tile installer. He died at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham on July 28, 1999. Survivors include one son, William T. Wright, Clanton; four daughters, Lera Kelley, Clyde, N.C., Sue Gillantine, Jean Wright and Faye Edwards, all of Clanton; two brothers, William H. Wright, Clanton, and Tommy Wright, Lakeland, Fla.; and one sister Ida Rollan, Clanton; six Grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie L. Cleckler.

Wyatt, Andrew M. 'Dick'

Funeral services for Andrew M. "Dick" Wyatt, 94, were held Monday, July 29 at Bethesda Baptist cemetery in Prattville with Rev. Willard Ratliff officiating. Born on Jan. 23, 1908 in Autauga County to D. Fletcher and Hattie Wyatt, this Maplesville resident died Saturday, July 27 at Prattville Baptist Hospital. Survivors include his daughters, Marlene Hayes of Maplesville, Coral Luker of Maplesville, Linda Thornton of Saraland and Patricia Maddox of Saraland; sons A. D. Wyatt and Cecil Wyatt, both of Prattville; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. W. J. Armstrong who took his own life was buried at Concord. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Annie Armstrong, a daughter of Rev. M.J. Parrish, 3 Sons, Stewart age 20, Jackson age 16, and Bill age 11.
Dated 5-24-1928, Clanton: Rev. W.J. Armstrong, rural Mail Carrier on the Rural Route 4 for the past 20 years took his life about 2 P.M. Wednesday. He shot himself with a pistol. Just before he shot himself he gave Mrs. L.E. Parrish a letter to his Wife.

Willie Marie Armstrong, formerly of Clanton, passed away at Bethany House in Auburn on April 22. She was born in Chilton County on January 29, 1920, the youngest child of Rena Crew Thornton and Theodore Jackson Thornton. Mrs. Armstrong was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Smolon Thornton and Adelle Thornton and her son, Willard D. Armstrong, Jr. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Marc Armstrong- Wright and their children, Kevyn and Ellie Armstrong-Wright of Auburn, her daughter-in-law, Ann Gordon Armstrong of Chicago; a grandson, Willard D. Armstrong III, of Auburn, a granddaughter, Robyn Armstrong and husband Jack Watkins of Dallas, Texas; and her devoted sister and best friend, Clarice Thornton of Clanton. A memorial service will be held at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Auburn at 4 p.m. Monday, April 25. A graveside service will be held at Chestnut Creek cemetery in Cooper at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26. Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton from 9- 10:30 a.m. Tuesday before the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Bethany House Hospice of EAMC, 1171 Gatewood Drive, Bldg. 100, Auburn, AL 36830 or Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 100 Church Drive, Auburn, AL 36830.

Funeral services will be held on Friday May 7, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Providence Baptist Church No. 1 with Rev. Lynn Roe, Rev. J. Aaron Ellison and Rev. Allen Foster officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Mr. Askew is survived by his companion, Kimberly Askew of Jemison, his daughters, Kathy Pennington of Maplesville, Keela (Tim) Mims of Maplesville, his sons, David (Debbie) Askew of Clanton, Joey (Rena’) Ratliff of Birmingham, his sisters, Hazel Northcutt of Jemison, Lois Askew of Jemison, a brother, Tommy Askew of Georgia and 5 grandchildren. The family requests no flowers or food. Please make donations to Providence Baptist Church No. 1 and the Chilton County Humane Society. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Services will be held Friday, October 1, 2010, at 11:00 A.M.. at Providence Baptist Church #1, Montevallo, AL with Rev. Allen Foster officiating. Funeral services for Rev. David Hymon Atcheson will be held at the First Baptist Church in Clanton on Monday, Jan. 22, 2001 at 2 p.m. with Mr. Wayne Atcheson and Dr. Larry Michael officiating. The family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001 from 3-6 p.m. Born on Nov. 25, 1911 in the Macedonia community in the northern section of Chilton County, he was the son of the late Frank and Bevie Atcheson. A Southern Baptist Minister for 64 years-serving in a wide variety of roles throughout the county during that time-he died on Jan. 19, 2001 at the age of 89. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lora Deen Atcheson; three sons, Gerald Atcheson and wife, Francine of Birmingham, Wayne Atcheson and wife, Barbara, of Tuscaloosa and Randy Atcheson and wife, Elizabeth, of Birmingham; a sister, Mattie Argo of Maplesville; two granddaughters; two grandsons and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his son, David Hymon Atcheson, Jr., his parents and two brothers, A.G. Atcheson and B.F. Atcheson.
