Funeral services for Anthony Redge Bearden, 46, a resident of Bessemer and former resident of Clanton, will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at City of Hope Chapel in Bessemer. Interment will follow at 2: 30 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church cemetery with a short service. Bearden was born on Nov. 29, 1953 at Craig Air Force Base in Selma, the son of Redge Berton and Betty Crowley Bearden. A butcher by trade, he lived in and around Clanton and Maplesville most of his life, moving to Bessemer in 1995. He died on July 2, 2000 at Cooper Green Hospital in Birmingham. He is survived by a daughter, Lori James Bearden Shutes; a son Reginald 'Reggie' James Bearden; a son-in-law, MIchael Shutes; one grandson, Michel Garrett Shutes; two sisters, Debbie Bearden Fassett and Diane Bearden Champion; and a number of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Red Berton and Betty Crowley Bearden; and his grandparents, William Redge and Sally Jo Bearden and Thomas and Louise Horton Crowley.

COLUMBIA - Services with military rites for Col. Joseph R. Bearden, U.S. Army Reserve (Ret), 76, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Boyce Chapel, with burial in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. tonight at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Ridgeview Manor Nursing Home, Lutheran Hospice or First Baptist Church. Col. Bearden died Sunday, March 7, 1999. Born in Straven, Ala., he was a son of the late Joseph Reuben and Mae Hambrick Bearden. He received a BS degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama and master's degree in human resources management from Pepperdine University. He was also a graduate of Command and General Staff College and Army War College. Retired from the Army Reserve, he served with the 3rd Army during World War II receiving two meritorious services awards. He also served with the Reserve 360 COSCOM. AS an electrical engineer, Col. Bearden spent 15 years with Union Carbide in Oak Ridge, Tenn., 26 years with Allied Signal and two years with Union Camp Corporation in Columbia. Col. Bearden was past commander of Lake Murray Power Squadron, member of Fort Jackson Officers' Club and deacon and usher at First Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Jean Donovan Bearden of Columbia; daughters, Sharon Bearden Tomlin and Dr. Lisa J. Bearden, both of Columbia; brother, Gary Bearden of Maplesville, Ala.; sisters, Dr. Marilyn Giles and Elizabeth Johnson, both of Montgomery, Ala.; grandson Joseph Pearson Tomlin; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Raymond Bearden, 74, died Sunday, December 5, 2004 in a Birmingham, AL hospital. Graveside services are 10:00 am Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery, Stanton, AL, with Elder Robert Baker and Elder Virgil Barnard officiating and Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Survivors include one son, Steve Bearden; one daughter, Lisa Dempsey; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers, Richard Bearden, Norman Bearden, and James Bearden; sisters, Frances Coon and Barbara Jean Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Family visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Mr. Bearden was born in Clanton and raised in Selma, He was an Eagle Scout, was retired from the U. S. Air Force Reserve with 33 years service. He was also retired from the US Postal Service. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.

Willie Ocile Bearden was born to the late Willie B. and Lillian Friday Bearden on May 19, 1921, in the Panhandle of North Dallas-Perry County area. His life’s journey on earth ended May 25, 2007. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was deployed to Japan with the Eight Army, “C” Troop of the 5th Calvary Regiment. He earned the Asiatic-Pacific Theater ribbon with one star for Luzon, the Philippine’s Liberation ribbon with one star and the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. Upon his return home to Plantersville, Ala., he became a noted farmer who diversified his operations to include cattle farming and truck farming. He initiated several new truck farming techniques for the area, including the use of irrigation systems for the crops. He is well known throughout the Southeast for pioneering the nursery and greenhouse industry. He established the W. O. Bearden Nursery & Greenhouses in the Plantersville community in the year of 1948. He was a member of the Alabama and American Nurseryman’s Association. He was an avid sportsman and after retirement enjoyed raising quail and bird dogs. He served as a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Plantersville and shared his love of music as a faithful member of the church choir. He is survived by his devoted wife of sixty-seven years, Lula Dee Rush Bearden; two sons, Col. (retired) Billy Charles (Ester) Bearden of Lincoln, Ala., and Bobby Allen (Marilou) Bearden and one daughter, Cynthia (Randy) Tyus both of Plantersville, Ala. “Pappaw, ” as he was fondly known, leaves to cherish his memory, four grandsons, Casey, Cyrus and Allen Bearden and Clint Tyus; one granddaughter, Renee (Bryan) Ousley; seven great-grandchildren, Alena, Allen, Emily, Hannah and Peyton Bearden and Hallie and Hunter Ousley. Other survivors include one brother, Joseph Hayward (Edna) Bearden of Valley Grande, Ala.; five sisters, Elise Latham of Bessemer, Ala., Nell (Noodie) Carroll of Plantersville, Ala., Louise Ozbolt, Clara Baskin and Shirley (Clyde) Kendrick all of Trussville, Ala. “Uncle Ocile” will be remembered by a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Plantersville, Ala., with Rev. Earl Watson officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. Graveside services will follow in the Christian Cemetery, Plantersville, Ala. Visitation will be Saturday, May 26, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Selma Funeral Home in Valley Grande, Ala. Grandsons, Casey, Cyrus and Allen Bearden, Clint Tyus, Bryan Ousley (husband of his granddaughter, Renee Tyus) and Jim Draime will serve as pallbearers. Honorary servers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Special thanks are extended to the doctors, nurses and assistants at the Montgomery Cancer Center of Selma, Ala., and the nurses and caretakers of Cahaba Hospice Center of Selma, Ala. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Cahaba Hospice Center of Selma or the Plantersville Baptist Church.

William Oliver Bearden, 79, of Plantersville, died Thursday, May 22, 2003, at a nursing home. Services are at 3:30 p.m. Monday, May 26, at Plantersville Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Golson officiating. Burial will follow in Plantersville Christian cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Survivors include his wife, Nolvice Bearden; daughters, Nena Bearden Mott, Dianne (Garland) Hardy; two brothers, James Bearden of Selma and John Bearden of Graceville, Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Lovelady; grandchildren, Sherri Hardy (Clay Alsbrook) of Greenville and Rhonda (Joe) Abbott of Plantersville; great-grandchildren, Justin Abbott, Kaitlyn Abbott and Kellee Abbott.
He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Howard Bearden, A.C. Bearden, Willie Mae Hopkins and Magdalene Seymore. Active pallbearers are his nephews, Andy Bearden, James Bearden, Jerry Bearden, Paul Bearden, Randy Lovelady, Ludie Moore and Rickey Seymore and Terrell Lovelady. He was a farmer and served in the Navy. He died on Jan. 28, 2000, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Bess N. Bentley, Thorsby; one daughter, Rebecca B. Gallups, Gulf Shores; one son, S.T. 'Tom' Bentley, Jr., Thorsby; one sister Margorie Bentley Vardaman, Birmingham; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Hawkins Blalock of near Columbiana, Benjamine G. Blalock of Bethel Community, Mrs. Sam Smith and Mrs. Loney Barrett both of Concord Community. His Children by his last Wife also surviving are: Jim C. Blalock, Stephen L. Blalock, Ivy O. Blalock, Charlie E. Blalock, Dewey Blalock, Lorenza Blalock, and Ollie E. Blalock all of Clanton Area. His Last Wife, Mrs. Mary Bishop Blalock also survives him.

Funeral services for Clyde Bone (SSgt USAF, Retired), 65, Warner Robbins, Ga., were held on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Christopher-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bert Tippett officiating. Burial followed at Partway Memorial Gardens with full military honors, with Christopher-Smith Funeral Home of Warner Robbins directing. Bone was born in Prattville, the son of Elbert and Effie Bone, and was raised in Clanton. He retired from the U. S. Air Force after 20 years of service. During his service career he served during the Korean War, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Vietnam War. He resided in Warner Robbins since his retirement from the Air Force in 1972. After his retirement he worked for 20 years with the Houston County (Ga.) Sheriff's Department. He had worked for the past seven years as a security officer and was a member of Green Acres Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Audrey Roseberry Bone, Warner Robbins, Ga.; two sons, Art Bone, Fayetteville, N. C., and Chris Bone, Warner Robbins, Ga.; tow sisters, Doris Tippett, Clanton, and Dorothy Benton, Columbia, S. C.; and five grandsons.
