Burial will follow in the Union Grove Cemetery. Arden died Monday, March 28 in Birmingham. Survivors include her husband, Horace H. Carden of Jemison; son, John Steven Carden of Billingsley; daughter, Melissa Moore of Hoover; brother, Howard Arledge of Guntersville; sister, Deborah Martin of Clanton; three grandsons, Steven Chase Carden of Richmond, VA and Miles Scott Benson of Hoover and John Cameron Carden of Atlanta; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Orman Arledge; mother, Lera Glasscock Arledge; and sisters, Dorothy Trash and Jo Anne Conway.

Carmichael, Roy

Roy Carmichael Services for Roy Carmichael, 83 of Jemison, are Saturday at 11 a.m. at West End Baptist Church in Clanton. Visitation is tonight at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Burial will follow Saturday's funeral at Martin Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Tony Smitherman will officiate. Carmichael died Thursday, Feb. 5 at Brookwood Medical Center. He was a sheet metal worker and served in the Army during World War II. Carmichael is survived by his wife, Clara Nell Carmichael of Jemison; a son, Ronnie Carmichael of Clanton; his daughters Kathy Cleckley of Clanton, Lindy Patterson of Clanton and Nancey Carson of Huntsville; his grandsons Brian Carmichael of Clanton, Hodge Patterson of Montgomery, Jason Cleckley of Clanton and Corban Carson of Huntsville; his granddaughters Jennifer McGuirck of Harrisonburg, Va., Lacey Patterson of Tuscaloosa, Kara Cleckley of Clanton, Claire Carson of Huntsville, Baleigh Carson of Huntsville and Katelyn Carson of Huntsville. He is also survived by a soon-to-be-born great-grandson. Carmichael was the son of Young Roston and Rosa Sample.

He died March 22, 1998, at Merrywood Lodge in Deatsville. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Carroll of Deatsville; a daughter, Mary Katherine Ballard of Deatsville; a son, John Carroll of Clanton; a brother Hughey Carroll of Clanton; six grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He worked as a laborer. He died July 3, 1998, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. He is survived by a son, Kevin Carroll of Virginia; two daughters, Bonnie Ryan of California and Brenda LaBaw of Massachusetts; four brothers: Clay Carroll of Chattanooga, Tenn., James Harlon Carroll of Billingsley and Kenneth Lamar Carroll and Douglas Carroll, both of Clanton; a sister, Dorrise Popwell of Clanton; and seven grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife Audrey Foster Carter of Selma; two sons: Brooks Carter of Selma; and Tony Williams of Millbrook; three daughters: Sarah Scott of Thorsby, Nancy Wood of Gulf Shores and Donna Rogers of Centreville; three sisters: Ora Davis of Stanton, Thresa Davis of Stanton and Betty Gaddy of Selma; 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were his grandsons.

Survivors include her husband, Gordon Carter, Plantersville; one daughter, Kristine Burge, Plantersville; four sons, Glenn Carter, Donnie (Sirena) Carter, Tony Carter, Scott Carter, all of Plantersville; one son-in-law, Sam Burge, Marion Junction; six sisters, Beatrice Horton and Edna Earl Gray, both of Selma, Flora Spangenberg, Burnsville, Marie Michel, Niceville, Barbara Mull, Jones, Vivian Martin, Clanton; two brothers, Nelson Chandler, Milton and Mac Chandler, Plantersville; five granddaughters, Catrena Carter, Brookhaven, Miss., Sheri Carter, Tyler, Kimberly Burge, Samantha Carter and Casey Burge, all of Plantersville; three grandsons, Tony Carter, Jr., Brookhaven, Cody Carter, Tyler, Corey Burge, Plantersville; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Curtis Glenn Carter.

Lottie Harrison Carter, 66, died Sunday at the Selma Medical Center. Services will be held at the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Stanton at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Rick Glenn and the Rev. Lloyd Jones officiating. Martin Funeral Home of Clanton officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. She is survived by her husband, L. M. "Shug" Carter; two daughters, Edwina Day and Nita Gardener; two sons, Larry Carter and Gene Carter, eight grandchildren, Pat Thompson, Pam Ousley, Ed Day, Chuck Yeargan, Chris Yeargan, Tina Smith, Landon Carter, Casey Carter and Kelly Carter; four sisters, Odie Hammet, Lora Moore, Ruth Gaddy and Dorothy Hagood; three brothers, L. D. Harrison, Milford Harrison and Horace Harrison. Pallbearers will be Ed Day, Chuck Yeargan, Chris Yeargan, Landon Carter, Casey Carter, Charles Ousley, Jeff Thompson and Joey Smith.

Ophelia G. Carter, 101, of Selma, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004, at a local nursing home. Services are at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 17, 2004, at Ebenezer Baptist cemetery with the Rev. Scott Watson officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing. She was preceded in death by her husband, John "Buck" Carter, and two sons, Henley Carter and John Burton Carter. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Harold C. Cosby of Selma, and Hilda (Sammy) Griffin of Stanton; one son, Don (Faye) Carter of Valley Grande; one sister, Lelia Harrison of Alexander, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at Martin Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, 2004. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ebenezer cemetery Fund.

James "Bill" Arnold Carter, 79, of Selma, died Monday, November 22, 2004, at a local hospital. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Friday, November 26, at Plantersville Christian cemetery with the Rev. Allen Yarbrough officiating and Selma Funeral Home directing. Survivors include one son, Laine Carter of Prattville; four daughters, Charlotte (Albert) Blackmon, Susan (Gerald) Hughey, Tammy (Dwayne) Miley of Selma and Pam (David) Burrows of Manlius, NY; five brothers, Tom Carter and Ed Carter of Maplesville, Ernest Carter and Gordon Carter of Plantersville and Clyde Carter of Billingsley; six sisters, Katie Rhodes of Selma, Margie Rhodes and Nancy Capitina of Plantersville, Sybil Ahlberg of Clanton, Shirley Smitherman and Louise Smitherman of Maplesville; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren: Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, November 25, at Selma Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cooper Memorial Church or Ocmulgee Baptist Church.

Jesse Lee Carter Services for Jesse Lee Carter, 84, of Billingsley, are today, July 8, at 11 a.m. at Indian Grave Baptist Church. The Rev. David Awtrey and Rev. Mike McLemore will officiate with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Carter died Tuesday, July 6. He is survived by his wife, Maudie P. Carter of Billingsley; sons William Jessie Carter of Montgomery, James Carter of Autaugaville and Gerald Carter of Billingsley; a brother, Carroll Shoultz of Selma; a sister, Bernice Johnson of Selma; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Carter, Lloyd Melvin 'Shug'

Services for Lloyd M. Carter, 77, of Stanton were Sunday, July 2, 1995, at 2 p.m. at the Ebenezer Baptist Church with the Rev. Lloyd Jones and the Rev. Aubry Wallace officiating. Burial was in the Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Carter was born November 17, 1917, in Alabama to the late John and Sally Lovelady Carter. He worked as a logger. A widower, he died Friday, June 30, 1995, at Dunn Rest Home in Selma. He is survived by two daughters, Edwina Bailey of Huntsville and Nita Bender of Selma, two sons: Larry Carter and Gene Carter, both of Stanton; three sisters, Ora Davis, Thersa Davis, both of Stanton and Betty Jo Gaddy of Selma; his brother, Pettus Carter of Selma; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Carter, Teresa Shelly

Funeral services for Teresa Shelly Carter, 31, of Maplesville were Oct. 17, 1998, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church #2 with Rev. Arthur Davis and Rev. Billy Wyatt officiating. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Baptist cemetery #2 in Maplesville with Martin Funeral Home directing. Ms. Carter was born Feb. 19, 1967, in Alabama to Thomas Eugene and Alice Faye Carter. She worked as a receptionist. She died Oct. 15, 1998, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. In addition to her parents, she is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law: Pamela C. and Robby Arnold and Crystal C. and Gary Cofer, all of Maplesville; a brother and sister-in-law, Shannon and Adrienne Carter of Maplesville; two grandmothers: Inez Smitherman and Naomi Carter, both of Maplesville; two nephews: Jarrod Cofer of Clanton and Brett Arnold of Maplesville; and four nieces : Amanda Arnold and Natalie Arnold both of Maplesville, and Haley Cofer and Hannah Cofer, both of Clanton.

Carter, William Thomas 'Bill'
June 07, 1891 - March 05, 1935
William T. Carter, age 44, died at Central Alabama Hospital Tue. Burial was at Indian Grave Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Ertha Carter, and 4 children age 4, 6, 10, and 12, and by 3 Brothers.
William T. ("Bill") CARTER, who died in a Clanton hospital last Tuesday, was the third of the Carter brothers to die within the past four years. Charlie was the first to go, dying at Selma late in 1930. Then followed Marvin, who died in Clanton in 1933. A sister, Mrs. Mary GRIMES, died at her home in Bessemer during that year also. And now "Bill", as he was known to many friends follows after two weeks illness of pneumonia. The deceased is survived by his widow, who was Miss Earthey BILLINGSLEY before her marriage; four sons, William Joseph, Wilton, E.J., and Harold; three brothers, Henry, Prattville; Erby, Chathom, and Tommie, of Birmingham. Funeral services were conducted from the home near Indian Grave Wednesday morning… and burial was in the Indian Grave Cemetery.

She died Jan. 1, 1998 in Houston, Texas. She is survived by her husband. Lt. Col. Alton Bernard of Houston, Texas; five sisters: Virginia Popwell of Clanton, Gwen Bigby of Millbrook, Mary Caton of Clanton, Teresa Hinkle of Corydon, Ind., and Catherine Milbrot of Thailand; and a brother Henry Caton of Clanton.

Funeral services for Cutis Chambers, 79, of Centreville are today, Nov. 17, 1998, at 11 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Doss officiating. Burial is in Pineland Memorial cemetery in Centreville with Rockco Funeral Home directing. Mr. Chambers was born in Chilton County and preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Sue Chambers of Selma. He died Nov. 15, 1998, at his residence. He is survived by his wife, Mamie Jewel Chambers of Centreville; two sons and daughters-in-law; Leroy and Ruth Chambers and Roger Dale and Jerrie Chambers, all of Brent; a sister and brother-in-law, Lora Deen and Haymon Atcheson of Clanton; four sisters-in-laws: Annie Chambers, Dixie Chambers, Louise Mount and Louise Chambers; four grandchildren, One great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Chris Adams, Patrick Chambers, Zack Drake, Greg Hatfield, Burton Huff and Roger Robinson.

Chandler, Floyd Cecil
January 14, 1922 - July 21, 2001
Funeral services for Floyd Cecil Chandler, 79, Plantersville, will be held at University Highway Church of God, Maplesville, on Sunday, July 22, 2001, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Billy Boatwright officiating. Burial will follow at University Highway Church of God in Maplesville with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on July 21, 2001, from 5-8 p.m. Chandler was born on January 14, 1922, in Alabama, the son of the late Thomas Sidney Chandler and Sallie Roberts Chandler. He was a heavy equipment operator and served in the Army from Oct. 16, 1942 to Dec. 12, 1945. He died on July 19, 2001, at Vaughn Regional Hospital in Selma. Survivors include his wife, Orene Chandler, Plantersville; three sons, Horace Dennis Chandler, Plantersville, Dan Chandler, Maplesville, and Mike Chandler, Selma; two brothers, Henry Chandler and William Chandler, both of Billingsley; foru sisters, Velma Weaver, Jones; Minnie Dorn, Smyra, Tenn., Clara Willis, Wadley, and Mable Ratliff, Clanton; six Grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Chandler, Horace Eugene
September 02, 1919 - October 01, 1944
In a drunken brawl at the home of John Brown between Plantersville and Alpine, John Brown shot and killed his Nephew, Horace Chandler with a shot gun Sunday. Brown is in the Clanton Jail charged with First Degree Murder. Brown is 36. Chandler, Son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Chandler is 23. The dispute was over a bottle of Whiskey. Burial of Chandler was at Jones cemetery following a funeral service at Milton Baptist Church. He is survived by his Parents, 1 Sister, and 5 Brothers.

Funeral services for Julious Marlon Chandler, 72, Clanton, were held at Pinedale Assembly of God Church on Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Mark Bolton, Rev. W. T. Cleckler, and Rev. Doug Powell officiating. Burial followed at Pinedale Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral home on Nov. 1, 2001, from 5-8 p.m. Chandler was born on Oct. 26, 1929, in Chilton County, the son of the late Alonza Chandler and the late Cletie Ethel McGee Chandler. He was a butcher. He died on Oct. 31, 2001, at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Annie Merle Headley Chandler, Clanton; two sons, Michael Chandler, Sr., Alabaster, and Rev. Ken Chandler, Clanton; one daughter, Angie Little, Gardendale; two sisters, Dora Headley and Dorothy Ray, both of Clanton; two brothers, Rev. Edward Chandler, Clanton, and James Allen Chandler, Evergreen; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

August 12, 1934 - April 13, 1998
Funeral services for Kenneth E. Chandler, 63, Plantersville were April 16, 1998, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Rev. Willard Ratliff and Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial was in Pilgrim Rest Baptist cemetery in Plantersville with Marin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Chandler was born Aug 12, 1934 in Chilton Co. to the late Lewis A. and Hattie Traywick Chandler. He worked as a pipe fitter. He died April 13, 1998, at AMI Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife, Reba Chandler of Plantersville; a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis Cofer and Ricky Cofer, both of Thorsby; a son, Michael Chandler of Plantersville; a sister, Hazel Rasberry of Maplesville; a brother, Lewis A. Chandler, Jr. of Bessemer; and one grandson.
Kenneth B. Chandler, 63, of Plantersville, died Monday, April 13, 1998 at a Birmingham hospital. Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with the Rev. Chandler, Jr., of Bessemer; and a grandson, Trevor Cofer, of Thorsby.
