Collins, Walter L., 81, of Route 4, died at local hospital Thursday, December 2, 1965. Services sere held at Cedar Grove Saturday morning at 11 o'clock, Pallbearers were Percock?, Amos Smithm Edmund Gilbert, Elsie Blankenship, Charles and Curtis Collins. Martin in charge of arrangements. Surviving are two sons -- Lewis Collins of Bessemer, and Kermit of Clanton; three daughters -- Mrs. Era Patterson of Clanton, Mrs. Verma Gore of Pontiac, Michigan, and Mrs. Evelyn Ward of Waterloo, Illinois; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Native of Chilton County, he was a son of John Collins and Charlotte Baker Collins. His wife was the late Fannie Childress Collins.

Conway, Anna Faye
November 22, 1932 - January 17, 2000
Funeral services for Anna Faye Conway, 67, Jemison, will be held on Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Rocky Mountain Methodist Church cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Conway was born on Nov. 22, 1932, the daughter of the late Alton Curtis and Minnie Annie Glass. She was a homemaker. She died on Jan. 17, 2000, at her residence. Survivors include her husband, David Kenneth Conway, Jemison; one son, Michal Conway, Alabaster; two daughters, Diann Frucci, Montgomery, and Susan Holcombe, Clanton; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Conway, Joseph Henry 'Abe'
1924 - July 02, 2004
Joseph Henry Conway Services for Joseph Henry "Abe" Conway, 80, a native of Jemison, were held Tuesday, July 6. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Conway died July 2. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Boone Conway; two sons; a daughter; 12 grandchildren; a great- grandchild; and his brothers and sisters, James, Kent and Jerry Conway and Frances and Avoline as well as a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Massie Conway.

Cooley, Howard Windall
1901 - 1939
Howard Windall Cooley, age 38, died at the home of A. D. Maddox Monday. Burial was at the Clanton Cemetery. He is survived by his Step-Mother, Mrs. J. T. Cooley, 4 Sisters. He will be remembered as the little cripple boy around Clanton who rode the streets in a little wagon pulled by a goat. His Father, Former Sheriff, Jim Cooley, died about 20 years ago.

Corley, William Bryon
July 10, 1860 - 1937
William B. Corley, once Prominent News Paper Man of Clanton, died at the age of 76, Tuesday at his Home in West End Clanton. Burial was in Clanton City Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, 3 Sons, 1 Daughter, Mrs. Walter Kelly Gillispie of Clanton. He was a Native of Georgia, came to Chilton County 35 years ago. He was Editor of the Clanton Press, a Democratic Paper.

Courtney, Thomas B. 'Tom'

Funeral services for Tom B. Courtney, 86, of Verbena were Sept 16, 1997, at Martin Chapel with the Rev. Tom Hilyer officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Creek cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Courtney was born July 22, 1911, to the late L. L. and Susie J. Courney. He worked as a farmer. He died Sept 14, 1997, at his home in Verbena. He is survived by his wife, Irene Courtney of Verbena; a son, Ralph L. Courtney of Verbena; a daughter, Ruth C. Grahan of Clanton; a step-son, Kenneth Boswell of Verbena; three sisters, Eldarada Hooper of Prattville, Lula Mc Cool of Birmingham and Margie Caffey of Birmingham; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Cox, Mary Kathleen
February 13, 1918 - October 20, 1998
Funeral services for Mary Kathleen Cox, 80, of Clanton were Oct. 21, 1998, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hershel Blalock and Rev. Donny Messer officiating. Burial was in Chestnut Creek Baptist cemetery in Verbena with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Cox was born Feb. 13, 1918, in Alabama to the late Stephen Lance and Gatsy Louisa??? Blalock. She was a homemaker. She died Oct. 20, 1998 at Merrywood Lodge Nursing Home in Elmore. She is survived by her husband, Raymond Cox of Clanton; a son, Kenneth Cox of Clanton; a daughter, Carolyn Pritchett of Birmingham; two sisters: Lillian Smith and Louise Price, both of Clanton; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Cox, Mrs. Sarah
Cox, Mrs. Sarah, age 79, died at the residence of a daughter, Mrs. O. N. Williams, in Clanton Monday morning at 1:20 o'clock. Services were held at New Cedron Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, conducted by Revs. Fred Lowery and R. E. Wilkins; Spigener directing. Pallbearers were; Charles and V. J. Parker, Clyde Henley, Roy Owen, Cecil and Earl Cox. Flower girls -- Elizabeth Cox, Dot Barrett, Helen and Willie Jean Johnson, Alma Grace Baker, Barbara Ann Pickett, Mildred Neeley, Billie Ruth Pickett and Betty Judy. Four sons survive -- J. L. and J. J. Cox of Billingsley, Rev. W. S. Cox and O. O. Cox of Clanton, Rte. 3; six daughters -- Mrs. F. C. Henley of Montgomery, Mrs. O. N. Williams of Clanton, Mrs. G. M. Owens of Billingsley, Mrs. A. G. Baker, Mrs. R. E. Johnson and Mrs. Hardy Barrett all of Clanton; two
brothers -- J. H. and Tom Traywick, both of Clanton routes. 43 grand children and 24 great grand children.

Funeral services for Alan James Crawford, 45, Verbena, will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at 12:30 p.m., at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with REv. Derek Deavers and Bert Bean officiating. Burial will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist Church in Verbena, with Martin funeral Home officiating. Crawford was born on July 10, 1955 in Jefferson County, the son of Thomas E. and Gloria Ann Crawford. He was a laborer. He died on March 26, 2001, at his residence. Survivors include one daughter, Ashley Boushard, Verbena; one son, Eric Crawford, Verbena; his father, Thomas E. Crawford, Verbena; his mother, Gloria Ann Crawford, Verbena; one sister, Carolyn Smith, Hueytown; three brothers, Randall Crawford, Hueytown, David Crawford, Vestavia, and Tommy Crawford, Bessemer; one grandmother, Lex Ann Lee, Verbena; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Arthur L. Crawford, age 64, died Friday. Burial was at Clanton City Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Beulah Fannie Crawford. He was born in Tenn. and was reared in an Orphan's Home. He had lived here 20 years and operated a pressing shop.

Crumpton, Leo
September 13, 1932 - January 18, 2003
Funeral services for Leo Crumpton, age 70, of Thorsby, will be held Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Union Springs Baptist Church in Randolph. Born on Sept. 13, 1932 to Olean Crumpton and Maggie Crumpton of Chilton County, he died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include brothers Marvin Crumpton and J. O. Crumpton, both of Thorsby.

Culp, Charlotte E.

Mrs. Charlotte Culp, age 81, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. I. B. Yeargan Clanton Route 2, last Friday night. Burial was at Mt. Pisgah Cemetery. She is survived by 2 Sons, Joe Culp and J. O. Culp, 1 Daughter, Mrs. I. B. Yeargan, one Sister Mrs. J. L. Holley, 2 Brothers, Bud Baker, and J. M. Baker.

Culp, Delos Poe, Dr.
July 26, 1911 - October 20, 2000
Funeral services for Dr. D.P. Culp, 89 and a resident of Johnson City, were held on Monday, Oct. 23, 2000 at Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Henderlight, Rev. David Lovelace and Rev. Jerry Everley officiating. Dr. Culp's body will be in Chilton County on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2000, where the family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. in Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, with funeral services following in the church sanctuary with Rev. Jim Popwell officiating. Dr. Culp was a native of Chilton County and had been a resident of Johnson City for the last 33 years. The son of the late Joseph Daniel and Lela Popwell Culp, he served as superintendent of Schools in Chilton County from 1940-1946. He was also President-Emeritus of East Tennessee State University, where he served as president from 1968-77. Dr. Culp graduated from Isabella High School in 1931 as valedictorian of his class. He attended Jacksonville State University for two years, earning bachelor's and master's degree in science at Auburn University and his Doctor of Education Degree at Columbia University in 1949. He began his career in education as principal of a one-teacher school, moving up rapidly to principalship of a large city high school in Greenville, from which position he was elected Superintendent of Schools in Chilton County. He then became a member of the Professional Staff, Alabama State Department of Education, from 1946-1951, with leave for one year in which he earned his Doctorate at Columbia University. Dr. Culp was a member of the United Methodist Church, Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City and Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church in Chilton County; a Sunday School teacher; steward; choir member; local and district Lay Leader; and Lay Leader of the South Alabama-West Florida Conference. He served on the Board of the Methodist Children's Home in Selma and was the author of numerous articles in religious publications and spoke in many churches.
Dr. Culp is survived by his wife, Martha Street Culp; One daughter, Dr. Jean C. Flanigan of Johnson City; two sons, James D. Culp of Johnson City and Dr. John S. Culp of Bristol, Tenn.; one sister, Allee Culp Henley of Sylacauga; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Culp, Donald
July 25, 1937 - August 24, 2001
Funeral services for Donald Culp, 64, Jemison, were held at Jemison First Baptist Church, on Monday, Aug 27, 2001, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Lovelady and Rev. Chuck Bass officiating. Burial followed at the Mt. Nebo Methodist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Culp was born on July 25, 1937, in Chilton County, the son of the late Clifford Culp and the late Willie Mae Culp. He died at Southland Nursing Home in Marion. Survivors include two brothers, Paul Culp, Clanton; and Robert Culp, Chesapeake, Va.; and two sisters, Frances Brown, Prattville, and Beatrice Ingram, Mobile.

John L. Culp, died Feb. 8, age 72, at his home in South Clanton. Burial Pleasant Grove. He is survived by his Wife, 1 Son, and 1 Daughter.

Mims, Elva Gertrude (Vinson)
July 18, 1904 - December 23, 1945
Charlie M. Mims, age 44, is in Clanton Jail charged with First Degree Murder of his Wife, Mrs. Elva Gertrude Vinson Mims. He shot her in the heart with a 22 Rifle. She was buried at Maple Springs Christmas Day, funeral was conducted by her Cousin, Rev. Cecil Little. Charlie M. Mims is the Son of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Mims of the Maple Spring Community. She was the Daughter of Mr. Newton A. Vinson and the Late Mrs. Margaret Driver Vinson, she is survived by two Daughters, Mrs. Getalene Blackwell and Mrs. James Carl Martin, 1 Brother, Julian Vinson of Montgomery, Ala.

Culp, Quincy Osmond
November 04, 1901 - February 25, 1950
Mr. Quincy Osmond Culp, age 48, died at a local hospital in Clanton at 10:45 p.m. February 25th. Funeral services were held at Mt. Nebo on February 27th, with intermant in adjoining cemetery. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Culp; two brothers, Delos Culp of Montgomery and J. O. Culp of Sycamore; four sisters-Mrs. V. C. McKee, Mrs. H. L. Mims, Mrs. Arthur C. Henley and Mrs. H. O. Headley of Clanton. Pallbearers were: James Earl Hosey, T. J. Headley, Clyde Headley, Comer Durbin, Wilson Atkinson and Loyce Stroud. Flower girls were: Olivia Wilson, Ethel Headley, Joyce Davis, Joann Davis, Fannie Lee Mims, Rose Ann Williams and Mavorene Tucker. J. Mell Martin and Son in charge.

Culp, Robert Sam
March 31, 1897 - December 24, 1969
Culp, Robert Sam, age 72, of Clanton, died December 24th at Chilton County Hospital. A native of this county, he was born March 31, 1897, the son of Enoch Culp and Fannie Williams Culp. Services were conducted at 2 p.m. on December 26th at Highland Baptist Church with Paul Johnson and Robert Carden officiating. Burial was in the Church cemetery. Survivors include the wife, Mae Poole Culp, Clanton; one daughter Elizabeth Lockhart, Cleveland, Tenn.; two sons, Harold Culp, Clanton, and Edwin Culp, Cleveland, Tenn. Four Half-sisters survive: Jessie Scott, and Mary Willie Traywick, Clanton; Dorothy Terry, Gadsden; and Ola Culp, Tuscaloosa. One half-brother, Clifford Culp, Jemison survives. 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ruth Pauline Culp, 73, Verbena will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Derek Deavers officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Baptist cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Culp was born on July 1, 1927, in Elmore County, the daughter of the late Irby and Ruth Higgins. She was a homemaker. She died on Nov. 7, 2000, at her residence. Survivors include her husband, Walter Wayne Culp, Verbena; one son, William Leonard Robinson, Jr. Montgomery; one daughter, Martha Deal, Verbena; one brother, Quince Higgins, Alexander City; two sisters, Virginia Harper, Montgomery, and Eva Baker, Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
