She is survived by 3 Daughters, Mrs. Emmett J. Lawrence of Lawley, Mrs. Farmer E. Shultz of Maplesville, and Mrs. G. G. Williams of Clanton, 4 Sons, Eugene Adams of Lawley, Gordon Adams of Clanton, J.D. Adams of Montgomery, and Charlie Adams of Montevallo, 2 Brothers, W. U. McGee of Randolph, and James Pickens McGee of Maplesville, 1 Sister, Mrs. Polly Lawley of Birmingham, and 36 Grandchildren. She was the Daughter of James Durwood and Gilanna Goodwin McGee.

Smith, Betty Jo McGee
April 19, 1932 - April 19, 2000
Services for Mrs. Betty Jo Smith, 68, of Jemison will be Wednesday, April 23, at 2 p.m. at Union Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Terry Smith and the Rev. J.W. Shaw officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Smith died at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton April 19. A housewife, Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Willard C. Smith of Jemison; two sons, Barry V. Smith of Rome, GA and Karl W. Smith of Clanton; two sisters, Mrs. Bonnie Roland of Birmingham and Mrs. Alice McClain of Montgomery; a brother Steve McGee of Huntsville and two grandchildren.

Deadwiler, Nettie
December 11, 1845 - June 23, 1924
Mrs. Nettie Deadwiler died at the home of her Granddaughter, Mrs. Ruby Thompson in Selma on Mon., June 23. She died of Paralysis at age 83, she was the Widow of C.C. Deadwiler and a Sister of the Late Prof. R. E .R. Hicks. Burial was in the Deadweiler Family Cemetery. Her two living Children are: Mrs. LaFarris Gore of Clanton and Mrs. Birdie Smith of Montgomery.

Deason, Franklin LaFayette
1876 - March 1917
Judge E. B. Deason received a telegram last Saturday conveying the sad intelligence that his brother, Mr. H.L. Deason, had been instantly killed in an automobile accident at Sapulpa, Okla. Judge Deason and Mr. A.W. Powell, a half brother, left on the afternoon train for Sapulpa, where the funeral was held Monday. "Fayette" as he was best known by his many friends in Chilton county, was born and reared in this county and before going West nearly twenty years ago reside at Kincheon. He was well known in Chilton and had many friends and admirers who will greatly deplore his tragic end. For the past several years he has held a responsible position with a railroad company in the Oklahoma city. Mr. Deason was about 40 years of age, and is survived by a widow and two children.

Funeral services for Grace Irene Deason, 80, of Pleasant Grove, will be held on Friday, June 15, 2001, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Joby Tricquet officiating. Burial will follow at New Harmony Primitive Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, June 14, 2001, from 5-8 p.m. Deason was born on May 23, 1921, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Mac C. Culver and the late Sally Dykes Culver. She was a homemaker. She died at Self Nursing Home in Hueytown on June 12, 2001. Survivors inlcude two sons, Marion Poe Deason, Shiloh, N.C., and Kenneth W. Deason, Pinson; two daughters-in-law, Carrie Deason, Shiloh, N.C. and Jan Deason, Pinson; one daughter, Sara Celesta Bell, Pleasant Grove; one son-in-law, Joe Powell Bell, Pleasant grove; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; Van Deason.

Deason, James Woodrow
November 26, 1923 - July 10, 1999
James Woodrow Deason, 75, of Billingsley, died Saturday, July 10, 1999 in Brookwood Hospital, in Birmingham. He was the son of James Alfred Deason and Myrtie McElroy Deason, of Billingsley. He was born in Perry County on November 26, 1923. He enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 19 and served as a Squad Leader in the infantry in the European Theater during WWII. Upon honorable discharge, he received the Good Conduct Medal, the WWII Victory Medal, and the American Service Medal with four bronze stars. He received a Bachelor of science degree with honors in Forestry Management from Auburn University. His forestry career was spent with Belcher Lumber Company and Hammermill Paper Company until his retirement. He was married to Louise Higgins Deason for 26 years and is survived by two daughters; Linda Wells and Sandra Robinson, both of Birmingham, two sons; James Deason, and Dale Deason, both of Navarre, Fla. He is also survived by five sisters, Ozelle Deason Surles, of Selma, Opal Donahoo, of Billingsley, Marie Fenn, of Florence, Carolyn Pierce, of Verbena and Cherry Pierce of Clanton. He is also survived by four grandsons. The family will receive friends at Martin Funeral Home from 6-8 this evening. The funeral service will be held at Billingsley Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Barnett officiating at 2 p.m. tomorrow. A Graveside service for the family will follow at Little Hope Baptist Church in Eoline. The family would greatly appreciate that any memorials be made to the Leukemia Society of Alabama in Memory of James Woodrow Deason in the honor of his daughter Sandra Deason Robinson.

Lester O. Deavers Services for Lester O. Deavers, 66, of Jemison, are today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Derek Deavers officiating. Burial followed in the Union Grove Cemetery. Deavers, an Electrician for Delta Electric, died November 10 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Maureen Deavers of Jemison; mother, Verlon Deavers of Clanton; daughter, Betty Sue Logan of Jemison; three sisters, Elsie Hill, Ozelle Mims and Joan Jones, all of Clanton; two brothers, Dewey Deavers and Jeff Deavers, both of Clanton; three grandchildren, Chris Chapman, Jason Rains and Angela Mims; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Moon.

Smith, Harvey Joe

Funeral services for Harvey Joe Smith, 63, Jemison, were held on Saturday, Nov. 13, 1999, at Union Springs Baptist Church, with Rev. Evie Megginson officiating. Burial followed at Union Springs Baptist cemetery in Randolph, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Smith was born in Chilton County, the son of the late Joe and Lizzie Smith. He was a farmer. He died on Nov. 11, 1999 at his residence. Survivors include three brothers, James Moody Smith and W.C. Smith, both of Jemison, and Joe Earl Smith, Thorsby; and four sisters, Ollis Headley, Bessemer, Sara Nell Plier, Thorsby, Opal Oakes, Birmingham, and Inez Sanders, Montgomery.

Smith, Hazel A.
April 22, 1918 - April 24, 2003
Funeral services for Hazel A. Smith, 85 of Jemison, was held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Randall Mims, Rev. Alvin Porter and Rev. Willard Fredrick officiating. Burial followed at Pates Chapel Baptist cemetery in Jemison. Born on April 22, 1918 to J. T. Zorn and Lessie Mae Zorn, she died April 24, 2003 at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include her daughters Faye Easterling of Gadsden and Teresa Smith of Clanton; son Mardie Smith of Jemison; brother Raymond Zorn of Jemison; sisters Virginia Robinson of Jemison and Betty Headley of Leeds. She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Smith; daughters Linda Porter and Carol Robinson; grandson Kevin Porter.

Smith, James Conway 'Connie'

Services for James Conway (Connie) Smith, 90, of Jemison, were Tuesday, November 30 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Smith died Sunday, November 28. Survivors include his son, Billy D. Smith of Clanton; daughter, Ruby Neely of Jemison; brother, Merlie Smith of Jemison; sister, Pattie Culp of Jemison; two granddaughters, Sheila Hucks of Clanton and Gwen Vines of Jemison; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Tiny Lea Dora Varden Smith.

Funeral services for James Moody Smith, 70, Jemison, will be held at Union Springs Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Evie Megginson officiating. Burial will follow at Union Springs Baptist cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Smith was born on June 23, 1932, in Alabama, the son of the late Joe Smith and the late Lizzie Smith. He was a crane operator. He died on Nov. 24, 2002 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center. Survivors include two sons, Phillip Smith and Rodney Smith both of Jemison; a brother, Joe Earl Smith of Jemison; four sisters, Olice Headley of Bessemer, Opal Oaks of Birmingham, Sara Nell Plier of Jemison and Inez Sanders of Montgomery; one grandson Jordan Smith of Jemison; one granddaughter, Kristen Smith of Jemison.

DeCarlo, Elizabeth Gene Collins
December 15, 1928 - October 1997
Funeral mass for Elizabeth Gene Collins DeCarlo, 68, who was born in Panama City, Fla., and grew up in Thorsby, was Oct. 11, 1997, at Saint Paul's Cathedral in Birmingham. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, also in Birmingham. Mrs. DeCarlo Graduated from Thorsby Institute and attended Judson College and the University of Montevallo before graduating from Howard College, where she was a member of Beta Sigma Omicron. She was a teacher in the Tarrant City School System and also taught at Collins Chapel School and Springdale School. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, John Paul DeCarlo; a daughter, Elise Barclay; a son-in-law, Michael Barclay; a grandson, John Michael DeCarlo Barclay; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Collins Linton Barclay; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Frances Collins Burnett and William P. Burnett of Clanton; a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Harry Goodgame Collins and Elizabeth Jones Collins of Salem, Ala.; and Aunts Josephine Damico and Sara Damico Cox.

Dees, John Wesley, Jr., Rev.

Funeral services for Reverend John Wesley Dees, Jr., 92, of Maplesville, will be held Wednesday, May 14, 1997 at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Reverend Mitchell Connell officiating. Burial will be at the Vermont Community Holiness cemetery in Maplesville with the Martin Funeral Home Chapel directing. Reverend Dees was born on July 6, 1904 to the late John Wesley Dees Sr., and Louella Dykes Dees. He died at his residence in Maplesville on May 12, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife Lilly Ruth Dees. He is survived by six sons and six daughters, Robert C. Dees, Hueytown; Thomas W. Dees, Birmingham; John W. Dees, Fayetteville; Jerry L. Dees, Clanton; Michael J. Dees, Crestview; Mitchell P. Dees, Maplesville; Mildred L. Lane Pascagoula, Miss; Anie M. Lane, Carthage, Miss; Mary L. Paige, Anniston; Katherine Cogar, Plantersville; Reather Faye Anderson, Maplesville; Deborough Lenoir, Maplesville; a brother and two sisters, Henry Dees, Ida Hudson and Iver Trehern, all of Pascagoula, Miss.; 47 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Alton Oneal DeLoach, 89, Clanton, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church in Verbena, with the Reverends Paul Armstrong, Paul Gray and S. P. Gray officiating. Burial will follow at the Bethany Baptist Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Deloach was born in Coosa County on July 30, 1910, to the late J.J. and Cora Lee Terrell DeLoach. He died on March 12 at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. He was a farmer. He is survived by his wife, Lois DeLoach of Clanton; three daughters, Kaye Smith of Millbrook, Barbara Avery of Clanton, Pat Hayes of Randolph; three sisters, Lila Mae Courntey, Bethel Burkhalter, both of Clanton, Ophelia Griffin of Verbena, one brother J.J. DeLoach of Clanton, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Lois D. Deloach, 85, Clanton, will be held Sunday, July 29, 2001 at Bethany Baptist Church beginning at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sidney Gray and Rev. Paul Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Baptist cemetery in Verbena, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Deloach, formerly Lois Hilyer, was born on Nov. 18, 1915 in Chilton County, the daughter of Stephen and Mary (Phillips) Hilyer. She was a homemaker. She died on July 27, 2001 at her home in Clanton. Survivors include daughters, Barbara Avery, Clanton; Kay (Wayne) Smith, Millbrook; Pat (Jim) Hayes, Randolph; sister, Ruby Wilson, Sylacauga; grandsons, Micah Smith, Millbrook; Jamall (Heather) Smith, Millbrook; Eddie (Faith) Hayes, Greer, S.C.; and Terry Hayes, Greer, S.C. Visitation was held Saturday, July 28 at Martin Funeral Home.

DeLoach, Smith Lamar
March 29, 1929 - November 18, 2000
Funeral services for Smith Lamar DeLoach, 71 and a resident of Clanton, will be held at 3:30 P.M. on Monday, Nov. 20, 2000 at Clanton First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Fred Zeigler and Rev. Johnny Trobaugh officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000 at Martin Funeral Home. Born on March 29, 1929 in Chamber County, Ala., he was the son of the late Obie DeLoach and Era Odessa DeLoach. A band director, he died on Nov. 18, 2000 at Chilton Medical Center. He was the Band Director at Chilton County High School for 32 years. He is survived by his wife, Trudy DeLoach of Clanton; a son, Steve DeLoach of Pelham; two nieces, Janice Young Carter of Birmingham and Pat Deal Flowers of Montgomery; and two grandsons, Corey DeLoach and Casey DeLoach, both of Vincent. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made ot the Alabama Lung Association or the Clanton First United Methodist Church Music Fund.

DeLoach, William D.
August 27, 1871 - June 11, 1930
Mr. W. D. DeLoach died last Wed. and at his funeral at Bethany Thursday his Wife, Mrs. Luana Waites DeLoach, died suddenly at the end of the funeral service. Mr. Deloach was age 60 and died at East View Community from Complications from measles June 11. He had lived in this County 14 years, coming here from Coosa County. He married Miss Luana Waites about 35 years ago. He is survived by his Parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.R. DeLoach of Verbena, Route 1, 2 Sisters, Mr1s. W. T. Keel, anc Mrs. J. W. Neeley, 3 Brothers, O. D., Clanton Merchant, and Jack DeLoach of Clanton Route 6, and Sid DeLoach of Verbena. The couple are survived by 7 Children.

Survivors include his son Charles Wayne Dennis of Montgomery; daughter Diane Dennis Wheeler of Jackson's Gap; granddaughter Teresa Ann Zabel of Mobile; grandsons Lee S. Wheeler of Birmingham and Mark D. Wheeler of Birmingham; great-grandsons Jarred L. Wheeler of Birmingham and Jordan Wheeler of Birmingham.
