Andrew Jackson Dennis, known as "Ander" died, age 79, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M.D. Dennis in the Highland Community Sat. He died suddenly. Burial was at Samaria. He is survived by several Children and by several Brothers and sisters. He was born in Coosa County in 1860, the Son of James Madison and Mary Hardy Dennis.

Funeral services for Archie Lee Dennis, 85, of Verbena were March 30, 1998, at Bethsalem Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Smith officiating. Burial was in Bethsalem Baptist cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Dennis was born Aug. 3, 1912 in Alabama to the late Joe C. and Emma Dennis. He worked as a farmer. He died March 27, 1998, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. He is survived by his wife, Emma Dean Dennis of Verbena; a son, Byron Dennis of Montgomery; a daughter, Doris Ball of Verbena; three brothers: George A. and Julian E. Dennis, both of Montgomery, and Arthur W. Dennis of Cullman; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Ben Dennis died at Bethel Community last Sat, at age 73, He was the Father of 9 children, 6 Sons, are: J. E. Dennis, Dock Dennis, Horace Dennis of Maplesville, C.C. Dennis of Autauga County, B. D. Dennis and Levi Dennis of the Bethel Community. Daughters are: Mrs. J. A. Dykes, Mrs. Perry Mims, Mrs. Frank Mims of near Clanton. Mr. Dennis was married twice. His first Wife was Miss Malissa Foshee, a Sister to Joe and Bass Foshee, his second Wife was Mary Wilson, daughter of James W. M and Penna Moore Wilson, she was a Sister of Mr. Pate Wilson of Clanton. He was a member of Bethel Primitive Baptist Church. Burial was in the Eiland Cemetery.

Graveside services for Charles Wayne Dennis, 71, of Montgomery are today, August 17 at Chilton Memorial Gardens at 11 a.m. Martin Funeral Home will direct. Dennis died August 15 in Alexander City. Survivors include his wife, Clara Mae Dennis of Montgomery; his daughter, Teresa D. Zabel of Mobile; and his sister, Diane D. Wheeler of Jackson Gap. He was preceded in death by his father, Aaron C. Dennis and his mother, Myrtle Marie Dennis.

Burial was in Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Dennis was born Jan. 28, 1920 in Chilton County to the late Marion Dekalb and Genie Foshee. She worked as a school teacher. She died Dec. 7, 1998, at Baptist Medical Center/Montclair in Birmingham. She is survived by her husband, James N. Dennis of Clanton; two sons: James Nelson Dennis of Dadeville and Robert Michael Dennis of Griffin, Ga; a sister, Mary Jo Tate of Blackshear, Ga.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Harrison, Eugene Agee

Funeral services for Eugene A. Harrison, 77, Thorsby, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, July 21, 2001, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Tommy Roy and Rev. Billy Boatwright. Burial will follow at Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on July 20, 2001, from 5-8 p.m. Harrison was born on Aug. 29, 1923, in Chilton County, the son of the late Joel Hardy Harrison and Judy Katherine Harrison. He was a mechanic and car man. He died on July 18, 2001. Survivors included his wife, Geraldine Harrison, Thorsby; two sons, Ronnie (Brenda) Gause, Montgomery, and Earl Hamm, Thorsby; three daughters, Mary Jo (Donald) Smith, Marbury, Vivian (Nelson) Wallace and Kim (William) Reynolds, both of Thorsby; Odean Harrison, Stanton, and P.E. Harrison, Randolph; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Harrison, Floretta Atchison, 86, of Maplesville died Tuesday, December 14, 2010. She was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1924 in Chilton Co., AL, Daughter of the late Julius C. Atchison and the late Velma Spivey Atchison. She was a Homemaker. Surviving are her 3 Daughters, Ann (Jerry) Robinson of Thorsby, AL, Jean (Joe) Edwards of Clanton, AL, Gail (Paul) Stephens of Destin, FL; 2 Sons, James (Robbie) Harrison of Maplesville, AL, Ricky (Kelly) Harrison of Maplesville, AL; 12 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren. Friends will be received from 5-8, Wednesday, December 15, 2010 Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be held Thursday, December 16, 2010, at 1:00 P.M.. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Grauel officiating. Interment will follow in Martin Memorial Cemetery, Clanton, Alabama. Martin Funeral Home directing.

Harrison, Jimmy T., Sr.

Funeral services for Mr. Jimmie T. Harrison, Sr., 85, of Maplesville, were held yesterday at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, in Maplesville, with the Rev. Alvin Porter, and the Rev. Joe Bob Mizzel officiating. Interment followed at HIllcrest Baptist cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Harrison, a farmer, born in Alabama on January 5, 1914 to the late Tyler and Lelia Harrison, died on June 3 at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lorene Harrison. He is survived by two sons; Jimmie Harrison, Jr., and Jerry Harrison, both of Maplesville, three daughters; Carolyn Brown, of Montgomery, Charlotte Lenoir, of Freeport, Fla., and Eugene Faye Speirs, one sister; Florence Cranmore of Selma, 15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Funeral services for L. D. Harrison, 82, fo Stanton were May 28, 1998, at Stanton Bible Methodist Church with Rev. Royal Thomas and Rev. Paul Brown officiating. Burial was in Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Harrison was born April 29, 1916, in Alabama to Evie Harrison and the late Hicks Harrison. He died May 25, 1998, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa. He is survived by his wife, Frances Harrison of Stanton; a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Donna Harrison of Dothan; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Juanita Harrison of Selma; two sisters: Ruth Gaddy of Wilton and Dorothy Hagood of Hueytown; a brother, Horace Harrison of Pleasant Grove; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Alfonza Thomas "A. T." Hathcock, 75, Northport, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton, on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Eagan officiating. Burial will follow at Bethsalem Baptist cemetery in Billingsley, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Hathcock was born on Jan. 18, 1924, in Alabama, the son of the late Grover C. and Ressie F. Hathcock. He was a farmer and was in the U.S. Air Force from Dec. 5, 1945 until Nov. 26, 1946. He died at his residence on Nov. 3, 1999. Survivors include his wife, Gertrude P. Hathcock, Northport; one step-daughter; one sister Frances Mae Buldger, Prattville; and two brothers, Grady Hathcock, Tuscaloosa, and Eugene Hathcock, Montevallo.

Dee Dennis Died - Madison Dewitt (Dee) Dennis, age 83, of Clanton, died Wednesday, April 17th at his home. Funeral services were held Friday, April 19th, at 3:00 p.m. at Samaria Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. J. D. Thacker officiating.; Martin in charge. Survivors include: one son, Dewey Dennis of Clanton; three daughters, Mrs. Rena Burnett of Wetumpka, Mrs. Leila Driver of Birmingham, and Mrs. Elsie Rollan of Prattville; one brother, Mr. Byron Dennis of Maryland; two sisters, Mrs. Eva Battett of Clanton, and Mrs. Oddie Lee Pollock of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren. Native of Coosa County, he was a son of Aaron Dennis and Lula Dorman Dennis.

Dennis, Nancy Lula

Mrs. Nancy Lula Dennis, age 77, died at Jemison Jan. 3[sp]. Burial was at Jemison Pine Hill Cemetery. Survived by her Husband, John Aaron Dennis, 2 Daughters, 4 Sons, M.D. of Clanton, J.M. of Mobile, L.V. of Verbena, and Byron Dennis in the Military Service.

Dennis, William Eugene 'Billy'
September 22, 1925 - August 08, 1989
Maplesville Mayor Billy Dennis died Wednesday in a Birmingham hospital after a lengthy illness. He was 63. Mayor Dennis filled three years of the term of Mayor Aubrey Morrison after Morrison's death in October 1985. He easily won re-election to his office in 1988. Mayor Dennis was a lifelong Maplesville resident. He was a rural letter carrier for the United States Post Office starting in 1949. He retired in 1980. He was chairman of the deacons of the Maplesville Baptist Church and was involved in church activities for many years. He was a Mason, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and a member of the Maplesville volunteer fire and rescue squad. He is survived by his wife, Blanche Dennis of Maplesville; his son Jeff Dennis of Maplesville; three daughters, Jean Dennis Brown of Spartanburg, S.C., Diane Dennis Sayler of Atmore, and Susan Dennis Wyatt of Russellville; and several grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 p.m. Thursday at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Maplesville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Gatlin and the Rev. Art Hartley officiating. The body will lie in state from 1-2 p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville with Martin Funeral Home of Clanton directing.

Dennis, Wilson
Dennis, Wilson, age 82, died at the home at Mt. Creek last Wednesday afternoon, December 16th at 7:45 o'clock. Services were held at the Highway 31 Church of God, Marbury, Friday morning at 11 o'clock; interment at the Canaan Cemetery, Spigener in charge of arrangements. Services were conducted by Rev. Horace Headley, nephews served as pallbearers. The wife Mrs. Edith Dennis survives as well as one brother, Sam Dennis of Columbus, Ga. There are several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Nina Lee Deshazo, 73, Clanton, were held on Sunday, March 5, 2000, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Davis and Rev. Olen P. Hutchins officiating. Burial followed at New Salem Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Deshazo was born on July 12, 1926, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late John and Fannie Griffin. She was as store clerk. She died on March 3, 2000, at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Reynolds, Clanton; one sister, Louise Williams Langston, Clanton; three brothers, Billy Griffin, Demopolis, Don Griffin, Florida; and Durwood Griffin, Clanton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

DeRamus, Prayton
1917 - April 1936
Prayton DeRamus, age 19, died at local hospital following an operation for Appendicitis Wednesday. Burial was at Ebenezer cemetery at Stanton. He was member of the Clanton CCC Camp. He is survived by Parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. P. DeRamus and 2 Brothers, Rev. G. G. Williams conducted the Funeral Service.

DeVaughn, Hardy Strock
November 01, 1926 - October 13, 2001
Funeral services for Hardy Strock DeVaughn, 74, Clanton, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating. Burial will follow at Bethsalem Baptist cemetery in Billingsley, with Martin Funeral Home directing. DeVaughn was born on Nov. 1, 1926, in Alabama, the son of the late Elijah Hardy Devaughn and the late Dora DeVaughn. He was a prison guard and served in the Army from April 19, 1946 to May 20, 1946. He died on Oct. 13, 2001, at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. Survivors include his wife, Mildred L. DeVaughn, Clanton; one daughter, Rita Traylor, Pensacola, Fla.; one son, Marty DeVaughn, Alabaster; one sister, Lena Henley, Clanton; two granddaughters, Brandi DeVaughn and Georgia Brook Tucker; and one grandson, Travis Tucker.

DeVaughn, Hiram W., age 77, died at the home, Clanton, Rte. 3, last Friday, Aug. 22, following an extended illness. Services were held at Popular Springs Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock conducted by Revs. Dewey Hughes, R. W. Stuckey, H. E. Wilkins, J. W. Jones and W. W. Robinson; Martin directing. Pallbearers were: Henry Patterson, Bud Parrish, Liga Jacks, Roy D. Downs, Ira Crowe and Curtis Dykes. The wife survives as well as two daughters -- Mrs. Jesse C. Jones and Miss Ora DeVaughn; two sons -- Mitchell DeVaughn of Coopers, and Lincoln DeVaughn of North Carolina; eight grand children and 10 great grand children; two
brothers -- A. J. DeVaughn of Tarrant City, W. M. DeVaughn of Sylacauga; one half-brother, R. M. DeVaughn of Clanton; one sister, Mrs. J. L. Crew of Clanton. Son of the late Webb DeVaughn, he was born and reared in Coosa County. He was married to Fannie Evie Scarbrough.

Hubert McDuffie DeVaughn, Jr. Graveside services for Hubert McDuffie DeVaughn, Jr., 81 of Clanton, are today at Martin Memorial Cemetery. Rev. Ralph Jones and Rev. Tony Smitherman will officiate. DeVaughn died at Shelby Medical Center on Monday, March 15. He was a clothing salesman. He is survived by his wife, Bobbye Mullins DeVaughn of Clanton; a daughter, Nancy D. Maners of Clanton; a grandson, Jared Maners of Clanton and a granddaughter, Jenna Maners of Clanton. He was the son of Hubert McDuffie DeVaughn, Sr., and Toye DeVaughn.
