Thomas Joseph Kemp Services for Thomas Kemp, 57, Gate City, Va., will be held at Colonial Funeral Home in Gate City, Va. at 8 p.m. Burial will follow at Holston View cemetery in Weber City, Va. with reverend Will Shewey and Darryl Dockery officiating. Mr. Kemp, a career serviceman, died Jan. 14 after a long bout with cancer. Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Kemp of Gate City; daughter, Rhonda Biggins of Mexico Beach, Fla.; sons, Thomas Kemp of Lakehurst N.J. and Jason and James Kemp of Gate City; grandchildren, Caden Kemp of Missouri, Kyle Biggins of Mexico Beach; step-mother, Louella Kemp of Thorsby; sisters, Helen Swanson of Kinston, N.C., Dena Hamilton of Clanton, Pat Huffstetler, Annette Moates, Anita Kemp, all of Thorsby; Cherry Lawrence of Clanton, Linda Abbott of Greenville, S.C.; brothers, Donald Kemp of Clanton, Michael Temple of Greenville, S.C. Mr. Kemp was the son of Thomas Kemp and Lois Fulmer Temple.

Kendrick, Richard Walter, Jr.
January 06, 1927 - November 26, 2002
Walter Kendrick, Jr., 75, of Plantersville, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at a local hospital. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 29, in the Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Atchison and Rev. Mike Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery with Lawrence Funeral Home directing. Mr. Kendrick was a veteran of World War II serving in the Merchant Marines. He had been in retirement many years after working as an immigration officer for the United States In New York City, New Orleans and Mobile, with the major part of his service being in Mobile. With great joy, he served in Pilgrims Rest Baptist Church as a deacon and teacher, and was active in the Gideons. He was in every aspect, the "Redeeming Kinsman." Mr. Kendrick was born in Chilton County on Jan. 6, 1927, to Richard Walter Kendrick and Mary Clementine Browning. Survivors include wife Betty J. Kendrick of Plantersville; stepdaughter Judith A. (Sherrill) White of Thorsby; step-granddaughters Angela (Wesley) Hicks and Jennifer (Heath) Blackmon of Plantersville and Amanda (John) Giles of Clanton; great grandson Kendrick Blackmon of Plantersville and brother Hershell (Billie) Kendrick of Selma. The family will receive friends at Lawrence Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Mrs. Bertie L. Dennis died, Wife of Tax Assessor, J.N. Dennis, at her home 1 mile South of Clanton on Mar. 6. She was born 2-24-1893, daughter of J.W. Kicker. She left 2 Daughters, 1 Son, and an Infant Son 1 day old was buried with her. Her Mother is Mrs. Luna Kicker of Tuscaloosa. Her brothers and sisters are listed in the article.

Mrs. Sallie J. Kicker, age 65, died at her home in West Clanton saturday after a long illness. Burial was at Clanton City Cemetery. She was the Widow of Newton A. Kicker who died several years ago.

Mr. W.O. King, age 54, died at a Selma Hospital last Sun. Burial was at Plantersville. He was the Father of Mrs. Sie Foshee of Clanton. Internet, The Prattville Progress, Death Notices 1929 transcribed by Larry Caver, Jr., KING, Mr. W. O.: "Services for.., 55, leading merchant of Plantersville whose death occurred Sunday morning after five days illness, were held Monday.. Interment was made in the Plantersville Cemetery.. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Estelle King of Plantersville, and the following daughters: Miss Onie King, a nurse at the Vaughn Mem. Hospital of Selma; Mrs. Sie Foshee, of Clanton; Mrs. Bessie Pickering of Plantersville; Mrs. Neil Harrell, of Billingsley; Mrs. Frank Perry of Maplesville. There were also four brothers, J. F. King, of Billinsgley; J.M. King of Autaugaville; P. R. King and C.C. King, of Jones, and a sister, Mrs. C. H. Herman of Jones..".

Klinner, William W. 'Bill'

William Washington Klinner, age 84, died at he home of his Son, Herbert Klinner in Clanton Friday. Burial was at Mt. Carmel cemetery near Maplesville. He is survived by 6 Sons, Oscar, Claude, and Herbert of Clanton, R. A. of Gadsden, E. L. of Birmingham, Vernon of Opelika, and by 4 Daughters, Mrs. Ella Buxton of Maplesville, Mrs. Gertie Pounds of Gadsden, Mrs. W.F. Broadhead of Birmingham, Mrs. Alma K. Dickinson of Billingsley, Rt. 1 and by 23 Grandchildren. He was the last survivor of his Brothers and Sisters.

Knight, Shirley Ann

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Bice Knight, 58, Verbena, were held on Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. W. L. Adams and Rev. Tommy Roy officiating. Burial followed at Sunshine Church cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Hrect directing. Knight was born on Oct. 13, 1943, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Ottis Bice and the late Flocie Bice. She was in sales. She died on Jan. 12, 2002, at her residence. Survivors include her son, Reno Knight, Clanton; one brother Olen Bice, Verbena; one sister Myrtice Headley, Clanton; one granddaughter, Christina Knight, Clanton; one grandson, Alex Williams, Clanton. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Freda Knight.

Knight, Ruby Dean

Funeral services for Ruby Dean Knight Baker, 72, of Clanton, were held on Tuesday, July 1, 1997 at the Martin Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Bobby Hicks and Willie Littleton officiating. Burial was at the Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton with the Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Baker was born in Chilton County on January 8, 1925 to the late Oscar Knight and Lula Mae Driver Knight. She died at her residence in Clanton on June 28, 1997. She is survived by her husband, Steve W. Baker, Clanton; a son and five daughters, Ralph Price, Connie Jones, Joan Oaks and Debbie Bass, all of Clanton; Barbara Turnham and June Piedra, Prattville; a sister, Hazel Dennis, Verbena; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Knox, Barney L., Jr.

Services for Barney Knox, Jr., 73 of Clanton were Monday, March 18, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Knox was born Saturday, September 30, 1922, in Alabama to the late Barney and Rosebud Mims Knox. He founded and owned Chilton County Concrete. He died Saturday, March 16, 1996 at St. Vincent's Hospital in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie Mae Noah Knox of Clanton; two daughter: Glenda Fergueson of Maplesville an Renea Morgan of Clanton; two sons: Bobby Knox and Mark Knox, both of Clanton; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Lamar, Cornelia Glennie

Mrs. Glennie Lamar Phillips, age 84, died at her home in Clanton Sat. Funeral was at the home and burial in the Clanton City Cemetery. She is survived by 4 Daughters, Mrs. Willie Phillips Jones and Mrs. Glennie Evans of Clanton, Mrs. A. L. Duncan and Mrs. E.W. Duke of Prattville, 11 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren, one Bro., Mr. George H. Lamar of Washington, D.C., one sister, Mrs. Annie Lamar Cole of Montgomery. She was the Widow of Mr. Tom S. Phillips, who died several years ago. She ran a millinery business in Clanton.

Services for Christopher Land, 38, of Jemison, were held Dec. 27 with burial at Pleasant Grove Number One Cemetery. Reverend Mark Lovett officiated. Mr. Land, a construction worker, died at his home Dec. 23. Survivors include his wife, Angelia Land; daughters, LeAnn, Chrissy and Katie Land; parents, Roger and Joyce Land; grandmothers, Merle Foshee and Essie Land and brother, Allen Land, all of Jemison and sister Robin Bentley of Columbiana. Shelby Couny Reporter.com, December 31, 2003, Morris Joe Atchison, 53, of Randolph, Ala., died Dec. 29, 2003, in Randolph. He was preceded in death by his parents, Goldie Ernestine Atchison and Wheeler Eugene Atchison; his sister, Mary Ann Donaho; and his brother, Paul Junior Atchison. He is survived by his wife, Julia Ann Atchison of Randolph; his daughter, Marcia Atchison of Randolph; his sisters, Beula Mae Davis of Marion, Goldie Mae Riffe of Maplesville, Jessie Mae Smith of Maplesville and Mollie Mae Cox of Randolph; his brothers, Carl E. Haigler of Istachatta, Fla., Jerry Robert Haigler of Selma, Eugene Atchison Jr. of Lawley, Ala., Willard James Atchison of Stanton, Ala., Thomas John Atchison of Maplesville and Vance Jackson Atchison of Lawley; and a host of nieces and nephews. Service was Dec. 31 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Randolph, Brothers James Reed and John Ingram presiding. Burial followed in Shady Grove Cemetery, Rockco's Funeral Home directing.

Langston and Wilodene Langston of Chilton County, she died Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2002 in Baldwin County. She was a nurse. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy W. Miller of Clanton; daughter Kim Heath of Clanton; son Brett MIller of Mobile; granddaughter Caydee Grace Miller of Clanton; mother Wilodene "Dene" Langsotn of Clanton; sister Becki (Floyd) Logan of Clanton and brother Eddie (Mona) Langston of Clanton.

Langston, Chalmer Willie

Services for Chalmers Langston, 72, of Thorsby, will be held June 25 at Faith Hull Gospel Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Pine Hill cemetery with Reverends Willard Scott and Douglas Scott will officiate. Visitation will be held today, June 24, at Martin Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Mr. Langston, a carpenter, died June 22. Survivors include his sons, Jimmy Langston of Birmingham and Frank Langston of Clanton; daughter, Bobby Mims of Thorsby; brother, Lonzie Cleckler of Clanton; sisters, Margaret Gibson of Clanton, Marie Rhodes of Clanton and Priscilla Rhodes of Clanton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Langston, James Richard

Funeral services for James Richard Langston, 77, Jemison, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Robert Griffin officiating. Burial will be held at Collins Chapel Baptist cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home Chapel directing. Langston was born on Oct. 27, 1924, the son of the late Evan Langston and the late Ollie Pate Langston. He was a carpenter. He died on Sept. 28, 2002, at 81 Old Buttermilk Road in Montevallo. Survivors include one son, Roy Langston, Jemison; three daughters, Betty Coodey, Clanton, Darlene Corley, Montgomery, Rebecca Messer, Jemison; two friends, Mr. and Mrs. Pat and Tommy Cormack, Montevallo.

Langston, Leonard Ivan
August 24, 1953 - February 13, 2000
Funeral services for Leonard Ivan Langston, 46, Witwell, Tenn., will be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton, with Rev. Randy Gothard officiating. Burial will follow at Union Grove Baptist cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Langsotn was born on Aug. 24, 1953 in Chilton County, the son of Frances adams Martin and the late Samuel Evan Langston. He was a mechanic for CSX Railroad. He died on Feb. 13, 2000, at his residence. Survivors include his mother, Frances Adams Martin, Jemison; his daughter, Crystal Neice, Thorsby; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for Orben Langston, 84, Jemison, were held on Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Mars Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. William Short officiating. Burial will be at Mars Hill cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Langston was born in Chilton County on Aug. 17, 1915, the son of the late R. F. and Barbara Langston. He was a rural Mail carrier. He died at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster on Dec. 17, 1999. Survivors include one step-son, Gerald Causey, Delaware, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her Husband, John Ellis, 3 Sons, Latham of Mobile, John of Montgomery, Earl of Clanton, 2 Daughters, Mrs. Raymond Smith of Fla. and Mrs. W. L. Longshore of Birmingham. 2 Sisters, Mrs. E. E. Upchurch and Miss Dela Latham of Clanton, 1 Brother, Luther Latham of Miami.

Funeral services for Docie Lee Latham, 66, of Maplesville were July 24, 1998, at Martin Chapel with Minister Don Campbell officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Latham was born April 19, 1922, in Chilton County to the late Dave and Grace Beatrice Chandler. She was a deli worker. She died July 22, 1998, at UAB Medical Center in Birmingham. She is survived by her husband, Walter Lavern Latham of Maplesville; two sisters: Dot Latham of Maplesville and Marlene Calver of Montgomery; and a brother, Arland Chandler of Andalusia. She was preceded in death by her sister, Altha B. Chandler.

Dolly "Dot" Latham, 66, died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Ala., Sept. 4 2003. She was a life long resident of Chilton County. She is survived by her husband, Will Latham Jr.; sons, Aubrey (Sherry) and Steven Latham; brother Arland Chandler; sister, Marlene Calvert and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Sept. 7 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Maplesville Fire and Rescue.
