Bobby Hicks officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton. Born on Sept. 14, 1918 in Perry Co. Ala., she was the daughter of the late Walter Latham and the late Susie C. Latham. A homemaker, she died on Sept. 23, 2001 at Chilton Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jessie Raymond Smith. She is survived by four sons, Buddy Smith of Maplesville, Raymond Smith, Jr. of Clanton, Wayne Smith of Ashlin, Ala., and Randy Smith of Thorsby; five daughters, Louise Harrison of Clanton, Margaret Jeanette Roberts of Clanton, Diann Carter of Maplesville, Patsy Pickle of Maplesville and Debra Hicks of Demopolis; three sisters, Ruth McMinn of Sardis, Ella Mae Cook of Selma, and Annie Bell Atchison of Talladega; a brother T. J. Latham of Selma; 31 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Robert H. Latham, 87, of Tuscaloosa are today, April 3, 1998, at 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Earl Watson officiating. Burial is in Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Latham was born May 13, 1910 in Alabama to the late George and Ellie Latham. He worked as a foreman. He died April 1, 1998, at Druid City Hospital/Northport. He is survived by two daughters: Audrey Ann Nix of Tuscaloosa and Robbie Nell Latham of Maplesville; a son-in-law, Tommy Nix of Tuscaloosa; a brother, George W. Latham of Eutaw; one granddaughter and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Hicks Latham. Pallbearers will be Robert and George Latham, Hugh, Lenard and Jimmy Stewart, and Don and Joe Abbott.

Interment followed at Mulberry Baptist Church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Latham was born on Oct. 20, 1903, in Perry County of the late Harrison Taylor Terry and the late Nora Chadwick Terry. She died on Sept 2, 1998, at her home in Thorsby. She is survived by two daughter: Nell Cummings and Mabel Cummings, both of Thorsby; two sisters: Odis Legron of Maplesville and Eva Lou Crocker of Calera; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Charlie Latham.

Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, between 6-8 p.m. Fox was born on Feb. 8, 1922 in Alabama, the daughter of the late Henry Calhoun and Anna Latham. She was a homemaker. She died on ?????, at her residence. Survivors include one daughter, Sara F. Adams, Selma; one son, Harry L. Fox, Jr., Alexander City; one sister, Montean Cruise, Montgomery; two grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Fox. The family prefers contributions be made to the Mulberry cemetery Fund, 3233 County Road 29, Thorsby, AL 35171.

Funeral services for Walter Lavern Latham, 75, Maplesville, will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Campbell and Rev. E. C. Mims officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 20, 1999, from 6-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home. Latham was born on Feb. 1, 1924 in Alabama, the son of the late Walter and Susie Latham. He was a security guard. He died on April 18, 1999 at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. Among the survivors are four sisters, Ruth McMinn and Margaret Smith, both of Maplesville, Ella Mae Cook, Clanton, and Annie Bell Atchison, Wetumpka; one brother, T. J. Latham, Selma; and a host of nieces and nephews. "Selma Times-Journal, " page A2, April 20, 1999, Walter Lavern Latham, 75 of Maplesville, died on Sunday, April 18, 1999, at a Alabaster hospital. Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, at the Chapel of Martin Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Campbell and the Rev. E. C. Mims officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Survivors include sisters, Ruth McMinn and Margaret Smith both of Maplesville, Ella Mae Cook of Clanton and Annie Bell Atchison of Wetumpka; a brother, T. J. Latham of Selma; and a host of nieces and nephews. Family visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, at the funeral home.

Eula B. Riffe Services for Eula Riffle, 89, of Maplesville, will be held May 26 at Rehobeth Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Reverend Danny Rasberry officiating. Mrs. Riffe, a homemaker, died May 23. Visitation will be held today, May 25, at Martin Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. Survivors include her son, Donald Riffe of Maplesville; daughter, Norma Faye Johnson of McCalla; sisters, Frances Green of Lawley and Jeanette Chatman of Randolph; brother, Cecil Lawley of Prattville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Lawley, James Wesley, Rev.

Dated 2-12-1925, Mr. J. W. Lawley, died age 65 at home in Clanton last Monday afternoon of heart dropsy. He came from St. Clair Co. Some 15 years ago and was married to Mrs. Isabelle Easterling. Burial was at Walnut Creek.

Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Baptist #2 cemetery in Lawley with Martin Funeral directing. Mrs. McAFee was born May 23, 1914, in Alabama to the late Columbus Jackson and Beulah Chism Lawley. She was a lunchroom worker. A widow, she died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 1995, at Bibb Medical Center in Centreville. She is survived by her daughter, Marjorie Smith, and son-in-law, Sith, of Clanton; her daughter, Joyce Barrett, and son-in-law, Donald Barrett of Selma; her son, Bobby McAfee, and daughter-in-law, Faye McAfee, of Centreville; her son, John McAfee, and daughter-in-law, Carol McAfee, of Prattville; her son-in-law, Coleman Smith of Plantersville; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and three of several foster children who lived with Mrs. McAfee; Freddy Smith, Jeannie Gamblin and Tammy Dingler.

Survivors include her husband, Charles (Chuck) Wenzel of Clanton; brothers, Richard Lawrence of Clanton and Billy Lawrence of Birmingham; and sister, Grace Donovan of Dallas. Graveside services were held Sunday, April 3 at Clanton City cemetery with Rev. David Farris officiating.

Funeral services for Esther J. Lawrence, 91, Clanton, were held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000 with Rev. Tony Smitherman officiating. Burial followed at Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Lawrence was born on Feb. 16, 1909 in Coosa County, the daughter of the late Billy and Dixie Ann Jacks. She was a battery filler. She died at Chilton Medical Center on Sept. 1, 2000. Survivors include two daughters, Maxine Waites, Prattville, and Ruth L. Moore, Clanton; one son, Bobby J. Lawrence, Victorville, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for John Billy Lawrence, 72, and a resident of Clanton, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001 at 2 p.m. at Glad Tidings Church of God, with Rev. Harlen Harris and Rev. Kenneth Moates officiating. Interment will follow at Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton. Born on Nov. 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Clarence Martin Lawrence and Bernice Lawrence. A milk route salesman, he died on Jan. 1, 2001 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. He is survived by his wife, Willadean Lawrence of Clanton; a daughter, Barbara Gail Easterling of Clanton; two sons, Ronnie Dale Lawrence of Clanton and David Lee "Cotton: Lawrence of Clanton; his mother, Bernice Lawrence of Clanton; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lawrence, Josie Emmer

Josie Emmer Gore, 90, died on June 18, 2000, at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. Born in Chilton County on Aug. 5, 1909, she was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Race Lawrence and the late Bessie Lawrence. She was a homemaker. She is survived by a host of nieces and nephews and Penny Walker, a very devoted friend. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. David Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah cemetery in Clanton.

Services for Lovice Bryan, 82, of Stanton, were held Feb. 1 at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Burial followed at Tabernacle Methodist Church with Reverends Danny Rasberry and Alvin Porter officiated. Mrs. Bryan, a seamstress, died at Montgomery Baptist South Medical Center Jan. 30. Survivors include her brother, Donald Lawrence of Opelika; sisters, Vernell Davis of Stanton, Evelyn Roebuck of Maplesville, Inez Lane of Roanoke, Va., Nettie Smith of Maplesville, Geneva Atchison of Selma, Augusta Harris of Maplesville, Bettye Mitchell of Opelika, Barbara Rush of Clanton and a host of nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of Choba and Dovie Lawrence.

Melton, Norma Jean

Funeral services for Norman Jean Melton, 65 of Montgomery are today, Feb. 25, 1998 at 11 a. m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Bowman officiating. Burial is in Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Melton was born April 3, 1932, in Alabama to Bernice Nix Lawrence and the late Clarence Martin (Lawrence). She was a homemaker. She died Feb. 23, 1998, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. In addition to her mother, she is survived by a daughter, Susan D. Moss of Montgomery; two sons: Randall K. Melton and Richard W. Melton, both of Montgomery; a brother Billy Lawrence of Clanton; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dovard Tolber Melton.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Bailey, Tuscaloosa; two grandchildren, Wayne (Charlotte) Bailey, Tuscaloosa, and Brenda (Dave) Bloomer, Stafford, VA.; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Race M. Lawrence of Clanton, age 77, died July 10th, at 5:30 p.m., at his residence. Funeral services were held at Pleasant Grove Church, West of Maplesville at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 12th, conducted by Rev. Ed Wilkins and Rev. G. G. Williams; interment in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Polly Lawrence and Mrs. Jack Gore, both of Clanton; one brother, D. M. Lawrence of McCalla, Ala.; six grandchildren. Spigener Funeral Home in charge.

Lawrence of Maplesville; a step-grandfather, Dennis White of Maplesville; a great-grandmother, Eva Burnette of Maplesville; two aunts and one uncle. He was preceded in death by three grandfathers: Douglas McArthur Anderson, R.Z. Anderson and Bill Burnette.
