Funeral services for Lota Mae Marcus, 91, Thorsby, were held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Alvin Porter officiating. Burial followed at Thorsby Memorial Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Marcus was born on July 19, 1910, in Alabama, the daughter of the late John Leonard Hayes and the late Hersie Hayes. She was a homemaker. She died Nov. 24, 2001, at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include two sons, Glenn Hayes Marcus and John H. Marcus, both of Thorsby; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Marion Marcus, age 81, died at Clanton Sat. Burial was in Clanton City Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Cora Young Marcus, 2 Daughters, 2 Sisters, Mrs. Fronie Goodgame, and Mrs. Nan Gray both of Clanton. He was a Son of Levi and Mary Jane Honeycutt Marcus, Pioneer Settlers of Old Jumbo Community.

Thornton, Mary Lee Marcus

Funeral services for Mary Lee Thornton, 80, Clanton, will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Jason Clouse and Rev. Paul Gray officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel from 5 until 8 p.m. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Methodist cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Thornton was born on October 22, 1922, in Alabama, the daughter of the late Leonard Joshua Marcus and the late Amy Lurana Marcus. She was a homemaker. She died on Nov. 25, 2002 at Hatley Health Care. Survivors include three daughters, Linda Baker of Clanton, Barbara Williams of Ashford and Shanon Baygents of Tuscaloosa; one sister, Frances Smitherman of Clanton; three brothers, Ralph Marcus of Jemison, Ronald Marcus of Birmingham and Robert Earl Marcus of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Stanley Earl Thornton and one son, Timothy Thornton.

Funeral services for Ruby Baker Marcus, 98 of Clanton, will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Tony Huges officiating. Burial will follow in Clanton City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Born on June 24, 1904 to Joe Baker, she died April 27, 2003 at Greenbriar Health Care in Birmingham. Survivors include her daughter Peggy Haynes of Cook Springs; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Marcus.

Avery, Iris Marler

Graveside services for Iris Avery, 90, of Millbrook, were held Jan. 10 at Midway Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Avery, a homemaker, died at Resurrection Nursing Home Jan. 7. Survivors include her son, Charles Avery of Jemison; grandsons, David and Keith Avery of Jemison; great-grandchildren, Cody and Chase Avery of Jemison; brothers, Harley of Cropwell, Ivan of Jemison and Fred Marlor of Pleasant Grove and sister, Martha Scott of Clanton.

Marler, James Eldred
March 16, 1912 - November 20, 2001
Funeral services for James Eldred Marler, 89, Birmingham, were held at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens Chapel in Hoover on Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, with Rev. Earl Tew and Rev. Wayne Marler officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery, with Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home and Gardens directing. Marler was born in Chilton County, the son of the late Emmett E. Marler and the late Della Glasscock Marler. He was an aircraft worker and was retired form Hayes Aircraft in Birmingham. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and a member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge No. 462 in Alabaster and a former member of the Gold Key and Southland Gospel Quartets. He died on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2001, at his home in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife of 62.5 years, JoRene Vaughn Marler, Birmingham; one daughter, Janice (Micky) Prisoc, Birmingham; three grandchildren, Chip Thompson, Traci Thomas and James Lee Thompson, all of Birmingham; three brothers, Harley (Elnora) Marler, Pell City, Ivan (Ida) Marler, Jemison, Fred (Ethelene) Marler, Adger; two sisters, Iris Avery and Martha Acott, both of Clanton; and six great-grandchildren, all of Birmingham. Memorials may be made to Unity Hospice, 2145 Highland Ave., Birmingham, AL 35205.

Services for Agnes Littleton, 85, of Jemison, will be held June 5 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Reverends Tony Burnett, Frank Nelson and Morris Holcomb officiating. Visitation will be held today, June 4, at Martin Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Mrs. Littleton, a homemaker, died June 3. Survivors include her husband, Earl Littleton of Jemison; daughter, Joan Simmons of Birmingham; grandson, Jeffery Simmons of Snellville, Ga.; granddaughter, Julie Simmons of Birmingham; great-grandchild, Amber Simmons of Snellville; brothers, Luby Martin of Jemison, Odene Martin of Pascagoula, Miss., Calvin Martin of Gardendale and Maston Martin of Oakman, Ala.

David Martin, age 69, died at the Home of his Son, Arthur D. Martin of South Clanton Monday. Burial was at the Mulberry Cemetery. David Martin moved from Bibb County to Mulberry in 1910. He married Miss Emmarine Glass in 1882, daughter of Benjamine and Peggy Glass.

Sue Martin, Infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Carl Martin was born and died last Thursday. Burial was in Clanton City Cemetery. Mr. Martin is the Son of Mr. and Mrs. J. Mell Martin and Mrs. Martin is daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie M. Mims of Clanton Rt. 2. She was Miss Elaine Mims prior to her Marriage.

He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Mary Wilbanks Martin, 1 Daughter, Mrs. Latham Ellis, 2 Sons, Leroy and James Carl Martin, 4 Brothers and 3 Sisters. He was the Son of Rev. and Mrs. Darius Martin of Equality. H began as an Undertaker i Clanton in 1921.

Burial will follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist cemetery in Verbena. No Graveside services will be held. Visitation will be held by Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000 from 10-11 a.m. Miller was born on Feb. 23, 1912, in Alabama, the daughter of the late William and Sarah Jane Martin. She was a homemaker. She died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabama. Survivors include one son, Paul A. Miller, Birmingham; one brother, Austin Martin, Montgomery; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie V. Miller. In lieu of flowers, donations should by made to the Alabama Baptist Children's Home.

She died on Nov. 24, 2002 at Chilton Medical Center. Survivors include four nephews, Kendall (Sue) Martin of Jemison, Zane (Rebecca) Martin of Thorsby, Wayne (Kathy) Martin of Gardendale and Benny Martin of Birmingham; six nieces, Glenda LeBerte of Tampa, FL, Shirley (Hoyt) Carroll of Birmingham, Patricia Fulford of Clanton, Joyce (Jimmy) Posey of Jemison, Sara N. Champion of Birmingham and Kaye (Jerry) Hendon of Alabaster. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Carl "Jelly" Bean.

Barnett was born on March 22, 1914, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late John N. and Callie Martin. She was a homemaker. She died on Aug. 21, 2000, at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Ellison, Jemison; four brothers, Luby Martin, Jemison, Calvin Martin, Birmingham, Maston Martin, Oatman, Odene Martin, Pascagoula, Miss.; two sisters, Daisy Barnett, Alabaster, and Perline Littleton, Jemison. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Barnett, and one son, John Wayne Barnett.

Martin, Walter Eugene
March 31, 1894 - February 02, 1930
Prof. W.E. Martin died at his home in Clanton last Sat. of Pneumonia. Burial was in Clanton City Cemetery. He was born near Thorsby in 1893. At the time of his death he was principal of Baker School. He has taught at several county schools. He married Miss Mary Pate, she and one daughter, Gladys age 12, survive him.
