Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Melton of Verbena; sons, Lonnie and Christopher Melton, both of Verbena; grandsons, Stephen, Wesley and Lonnie Melton; brothers, Ollis Melton of Montgomery and James Melton of Clanton.

Funeral services for Ollis Monroe Melton, 87, Verbena, will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2001, at 1 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Donnie Burns officiating. Burial will follow at Bethsalem Baptist Church in Billingsley with Martin Funeral Home directing. Melton was born Jan. 5, 1914, in Chilton County, the son of Leland Melton and Mattie Melton. He was a farmer. HE died on July 22, 2001, at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. Survivors include four sons, James C. Melton, Clanton, Wayne Melton, Prattville, and Ollis Melton, JR. and Lonnie Melton, both of Verbena; three sisters, Theo Smith, Jemison, and Leo Smitherman and Irene Burnett, Calera; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Theo Smith, 81, Jemison, were held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, with Rev. William Short officiating. Burial followed at Providence Baptist No. 1 cemetery in Montevallo, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Smith was born on Feb. 7, 1920, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Leonard Melton and the late Mattie Nix Melton. She was a homemaker. She died on Nov. 30, 2001, at his residence. Survivors include four sons, Morgan Smith, Mobile, Carl Smith, Clanton, Jerry Smith, Verbena, and Renfroe Smith, Calera; two sisters, Leo Smitherman, Calera, and Irene Burnett, Montevallo; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

Bean, Ottis Marie Merchant

Funeral services for Ottis Marie Bean, 91, of Clanton were Nov. 17, 1998 at West End Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Powell officiating. Burial was in New Salem Baptist cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Bean was born Jan. 25, 1907, in Alabama to the late John and Minnie Murchant. She was a homemaker. She died Nov. 15, 1998 at her residence. She is survived by a daughter, Ann B. Vinzant of Clanton, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Ferguson was born on Aug. 26, 1920, in Perry County, the daughter of the late Arnold Middlebrooks and the late Callie Irene Middlebrooks. She was a homemaker. She died on Nov. 28, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center in Daphne. Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Slay, Chickasaw, Sue Caton, Irvington; two sons-in-law, James Slay, Chickasaw, Marshall Caton, Irvington; two brothers, Arnold Middlebrooks, Tillman's Corner, Jimmie Middlebrooks, Prattville; two sisters-in-law, Aline Middlebrooks, Tillman's Corner, Sylvia Middlebrooks, Prattville; one sister, Edna Jo Murriel, Mobile; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jadie Emmail Ferguson, and one daughter, Martha Ann Rivers.

Services for Willodean Milford, 76, of Clanton, will be held, today, April 22 at Samaria Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Mount Pisgah cemetery with Reverends Calvin Smitherman, Charles Brooks and David Cleckley officiating. Mrs. Milford, a homemaker, died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center April 19. Survivors include her husband, Obie Milford of Clanton; sons, James and Jerry Milford of Clanton; grandsons, Joey, Daniel and Tim Milford of Clanton; granddaughter, Jeannine Milford of Clanton; Great-grandchild, Hayley Milford of Clanton; sisters, Edna Cooedy and Lois Sparks of Clanton and brother, Clifford Taylor of Clanton. She was the daughter of Cliff and Pearl (Smitherman) Taylor.

Miller, Charles Taylor 'Rube'
August 21, 1886 - December 1935
Rube Miller, Employee of Alabama Power Co. at the Plant of Jordan Dam died Friday. He shot himself to death with a shotgun. C. T. MIller, known as Rube worked for the Power Co. 10 years. He is survived by his Widow, Mrs. Callie Popwell Miller, 3 Sons, W. Alpha Miller of the Mitchell Dam, J. Chester Miller of Clanton, and Rufus B. Miller of Montgomery, and by an adopted daughter, Margaret Miller. He is also survived by his Twin Brother, Tam Miller of Lay Dam., W. Henry Miller of Clanton, 6 Sisters: Mrs. P. G. Marcus of Clanton, Mrs. Carey Baker of Birmingham, Miss Ittie Miller of Clanton, Mrs. Glaucus Baker, Clanton Route 2, Mrs. Luther Bennett of Atlanta, Mrs. R. M. Miller of Clanton, 2 Grandchildren. Burial was at Walnut Creek.

Funeral services for Elsie (Miller) Payne, 80, Thorsby, will be held at First Baptist Church in Thorsby on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Alvin Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Thorsby Memorial Gardens with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Feb. 8, 2002, from 5-8 p.m. Payne was born on Feb 26, 1920, the daughter of the late Henly Burt Miller and the late Minnie Seymore Miller of Plantersville. Her husband, Jesse Payne, Jr., preceded her in death. She and her husband owned a family business, Payne Dry Good Store, and Payne Plumbing Co. in Thorsby. The Paynes have been long-time members of the first Baptist Church of Thorsby. Payne died on Feb. 7, 2002. Survivors include her twin daughters, Nelle Freeman and Delle Geeslin; two grandchildren, Lee Gunn and Jacqueline Gunn Chouinard; three great-grandchildren, Cameron Gunn, Taylor Gunn and Madison Gunn; two sister, Kat Bryant and Pete Grindle of Selma.

Julius Chester Miller Services for Julius Miller, 92, of Clanton, will be held today, June 1, at Martin Funeral Home at 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery with Reverend Tony Smitherman officiating. Mr. Miller, a district manager with Central Alabama Electric, died May 30. Survivors include his sons, Charles Miller of Sacramento, Calif. and Tommy Miller of Clanton; granddaughter, Laura Miller of Sacramento; grandson, Thomas Miller of Clanton; great-grandchildren, Bailey Miller of Clanton and Brandon and Ashley Miller of Sacramento.

Services for Mavis (Miller) Parker, 88 of Demopolis, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Springs Independent Methodist Protestant Church with Jeff Carroll and Kenneth Moates officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Creek cemetery in Clanton. Visitation will be held today from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Mt. Springs. Parker died June 11, 2003 at Wood Haven Manor Nursing Home. Survivors include her daughters Patricia (Rev. Don) Smith of Demopolis and Cindy (Jeff) Best of Birmingham; son Bobby E. (Diane) Parker of Clanton; sisters Myrle Grace Popwell of Clanton and Betty Jo Roper of Chanute, Kansas; brother Jeff MIller of Clanton; dedicated sisters Juanita Futhrie and Elouise Duckworth; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild, a host of nieces and nephews. Survivors include five sons, Elvin Mills, Clanton, Richard Mills, Billy Frank Mills, and Tot Mills, all of Birmingham, Alvin Mills, Sterrett; one daughter, Lassie Mills, Birmingham; one brother, M. C. Mills, Calera; two sisters Mabelle Morris and Hazel Pickett, both of Montevallo; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow at Shelby Memorial Gardens in Calera, with Rockco Funeral Home directing. Mills was retired after 35 years as a welder for Pullman Standard in Bessemer. He died on Aug. 28, 2001, in Alabaster. Survivors include one daughter, Marie Hitchcock, Charlotte, N.C.; three sons, Royce Mills and Gary Lee Mills, both of Birmingham, and MIlton Clyde Mills, Bloutville; two sisters, Hazel Pickett and Mable Morris, both of Montevallo; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Alice Mims, Wife of Frank M. Mims, died at her home in Temple Community Sept. 14. She was born 12-25-1882, daughter of Ben L. and Malissa Foshee Dennis. She would have been 51 had she lived until Christmas Day. Her Parents, and 2 Brothers, Charlie and Harvey Dennis have preceded her to the Grave, one sister, Docia, Wife of Rev. W. P. Mims has also died. She is survived by her Husband, Frank M. Mims, 2 Sons, William J. and Lester Mims, 2 Daughters Mrs. E. V. Mims and Mrs. Marion Thompson. Six Brothers, C.C. Dennis of near Wadsworth, J. E. and I. A. Dennis of Maplesville, M.D. Dennis of Clanton Route 6, Horace and Levi Dennis of Clanton Route 2, one Sister, Mrs. J. A. Dykes of Clanton Route 2. She and Frank M. Mims were married 1-16-1898. Burial was at Temple Cemetery.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jack Scarbrough of Thorsby; two sons and daughters-in-law, Charles A. and Margaret Wyatt of Thorsby and James W. "Butch" and Donna Wyatt of Jemison; a sister, Edna R. Mims of Clanton; 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard A. Burial will follow in the Liberty Hill Baptist Cemetery. Friends will be received today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Maddox died October 26 at Hatley Health Care. Surviving are her brother, Richard C. Mims of Jemison; three step-sons, Horace W. Maddox, Jr. of Verbena, Jimmy Maddox of Thorsby, and Jeffrey Maddox of Clanton; and several step- grandchildren.
