Funeral services for Cecil Edward Mims, 55, of Clanton were Feb. 8, 1999, at Martin Chapel with Rev. Ray Smitherman and Rev. S. A. Lowery officiating. Burial was in Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Mims was born May 7, 1943, in Coosa County to Margaret Virgie Thrash and the late George Cecil Mims. He worked as a carpenter. He died Feb. 6, 1999, at Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System in Montgomery. In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter, Stacy Ann Mims of Wetumpka; three sisters: Elizabeth Dell Payton and Gwen Reynolds, Both of Clanton, and Gail Foshee of Jemison; and a brother, Billy M. Bearden of McCalla.

Headley, Clara Nell 'Tootis' (Mims)
October 16, 1932 - December 30, 2001
Funeral services for Clara Nell Headley, 69, Selma, will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, in the Chapel of Lawrence Funeral Home with the Rev. Calvin Strickland and the Rev. Doug Chapelle officiating. Burial will follow at New Live Oak Cemetery, with Lawrence Funeral Home officiating. Active pallbearers include Jason Bearden, Josh Headley, Ross Bearden, Norman McDonald, Tim Mims, Charles "Buddy" Golson, O'Neal Caton, and Danny Headley. Headley died at her residence on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001, at her residence. Survivors include her husband, Dewey L. Headley, Selma; one son, Terry (Marie) Headley, Selma; two daughters, Ann (Mike) Heath and Joyce (Jimmy) Bearden, both of Selma; two brothers, Ross Mims, Jones, and Ralph Mims, Randolph; one sister, Christine Anthony, Clanton; three grandchildren, Melisa Gwen Headley and Jason Adam Bearden, both of Auburn, and Joshua Blake Headley, Selma; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Jennifer Heath. Flower will be accepted or donations may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund or your favorite charity.

Mims, Earnest Willie

Services for Ernest Willie Mims, 90 of Verbena, are scheduled for today at Martin Funeral Home in Clanton at 1 p.m. Burial will take place at the Providence Baptist Church No. 2 cemetery in Clanton. Mims was a chair builder. He is survived by one son, Glen Allen Mims of Fanning Springs, Fla., two daughters - Betty Wade of Verbena and Jettie Tucker of Orlando, Fla., and four sisters, Myrtle Lockhart of Clanton, Dorothy Lockhart of Clanton, Lucille Johnson of Clanton and Cora Kelley of Clanton. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha.

Graveside services for Edna M. Walker, 78, Selma, Will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert Barnes and Rev. Harlen Harris officiating. Burial will follow at Sunshine Assembly of God Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. visitation was held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 19, 2002, from 6-8 p.m. Walker was born on Jan. 18, 1924, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Ed Mims and the late Susie Mims. She was a homemaker. She died on March 18, 2002, at Warren Manor Nursing Home in Selma. Survivors include on daughter, Ruby Williams, Selma; one son-in-law, Johnny Williams, Selma; one granddaughter, Teresa Hoggle, Montevallo; one granddaughter-in-law, Tommy Hoggle, Montevallo; one grandson, Keith Williams, Selma; two great-grandchildren, Amanda Hoggle, Montevallo, and Taylor Williams, Tuscaloosa; two brothers, Felston Mims and Edward Mims, both of Clanton; three sisters, Myrtice Zukoski, Enterprise, Lea Dora Joihnson, and Jettie Durbin, both of Clanton.

Mims, J.C. 'Jake'

Funeral services for J.C. 'Jake' Mims, 81, Clanton, were held on Monday, Dec. 4, 2000, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Fred Donovan and Rev. Robert Gibson officiating. Burial followed at Maple Springs Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home officiating. Mims was born on July 6, 1919, in Chilton County, the son of the late Jim and Cora Elizabeth Kicker Mims. He was a salesman. He died at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham on Dec. 2, 2000. Survivors include his wife, Ruby J. Mims, Clanton; one son, Kenneth Mims, Clanton; one brother, Jim Mims, Montgomery; three grandchildren; and six grandchildren.

Mims, James Monroe
1862 - March 1934
J. M. Mims, age 71, County Commissioner died after a long illness in a Birmingham Hospital. Burial was in Collins Chapel Cemetery. His home was at Thorsby. His Wife, Mrs. Martha Mims, one Son, Elijah Mims of Collins Chapel, 2 Daughters, Mrs. Spurgeon Callaway of Clanton and Mrs. Jack Robinson of Jemison survive. He was first elected Commissioner in 1922 for the Second District. "The Chilton County News, " March 15, 1934, Funeral services for James Monroe Mims, 71, venerable commissioner of Chilton County, who died Monday afternoon at 2:25 o'clock in a Birmingham hospital where he had been undergoing treatment for two weeks, were held Tuesday Afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Collins Chapel Baptist Church of which he as a member. The Rev. W. P. Lowery officiated. Burial was in the churchyard cemetery with Spigener in charge. The county official had been in ill health for several months, having suffered from high blood pressure and for the past four or five months had been unable to attend his duties as a commissioner. Mr. Mims was born and reared in Chilton County and was prominently know through out the county. He was a prominent farmer and business man of the Thorsby community. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Martha Mims; one son, Elijah Mims; two daughters, Mrs. A. J. Robinson of Jemison, and Mrs. Spurgeon Calloway, Clanton; three brothers, J. T. Mims, and G. W. Mims, both of Thorsby, and W. A. Mims, of Mobile. The following friends served as pallbearers: Commissioners C. D. Duke, J. C. Atchison, J. E. Cobb, and Earl Marcus, Varney Wyatt and Grover C. Bice.

Mims, Leonard H. 'Mickey'

Funeral services for Leonard H. "Mickey" Mims, 72, Verbena, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Frank Nelson and Rev. Jack Drinkwater officiating. Burial will follow at Providence Baptist Church No 2 in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, from 5-8 p.m. Mims was born on Feb. 24, 1930, in Chilton County, the son of the late Jim Mims and the late Charlotte Mims. He was a furniture store supervisor. He died on Sept. 29, 2002, at Baptist South Medical Center in Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Martha Ann Mims, Verbena; three sons, Hershell Mims, Wade Shields, Lee Mims, all of Verbena; two daughters, Gloria Sparks, Clanton, Debby Weldon, Thorsby; one brother, Willie Mims, Verbena; four sisters, Cora Kelley, Myrtle Cleckler, Lucille Johnson, Danny Lockhart, all of Clanton; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

Mims, Lorenzo Dow
September 25, 1888 - July 07, 1939
L. D. (Renza) Mims, age 55, Farmer of the Pleasant Grove Community, was shot and killed by Virgil Headley, age 34, Friday. Mims was buried at Mt. Nebo. He is survived by 4 Sons and 4 Daughters. Headley claimed that the trouble was about some watermelons. He claimed he killed in self defense. He is in the Clanton Jail.

Mrs. Margaret Josephine Mims, age 64, Clanton Rt. 2 died Feb. 12. Burial was at Concord Cemetery. Funeral service was conducted by Rev. G. G. Williams. She is survived by her Husband, E. P. Mims, Father, T. G. Taylor, Sisters, Mrs. O. H. Mcdowell, Mrs. S. M. DeVaughn, Mrs. I. O. Blalock, 2 Brothers, R. W. and J. W. Taylor.

Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Collins, age 68, of Thorsby, died Monday. She was the Widow of John H. Collins who died 2 years ago. Burial was at Collins Chapel. She is survived by 2 Sons, Grady and Akin Collins, 3 Daughters, 2 Brothers. She was Miss Martha Elizabeth Mims prior to marriage. "The Chilton County News, " February 15, 1940, Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Collins, age 68, of Thorsby, died Monday of this week at 7:00 P.M. She was the widow of the late John H. Collins. Funeral services her held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday from the Collins Chapel Church conducted by the Rev. W. P. Lowery. Interment was in the church cemetery with Spigener Funeral Home in charge. Surviving are two sons, Akins and Grady Collins of Thorsby; three daughters, Mrs. Genie Robinson, Mrs. Hersie Hayes, Miss Hilma Collins, all of Thorsby; two brothers, A. M. Mims, of Clanton Route 4 and Vallie E. Mims of Mobile, Alabama. Five grand children and one great grandchild also survive.

Funeral services for Marzelle M. Hayes, 87 of Clanton, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Smitherman and Rev. David Bishop officiating. Burial followed in Sardis Cemetery. Born on July 8, 1915 to Lorenza D. Mims and Ada Bell Mims, she died April 19, 2003 at Hatley Health Care in Clanton. Survivors include her sons Howard Hayes of Birmingham, Harry Hayes of Maplesville, Robert Hayes of Maplesville and Gary Hayes of Jemison; daughters Betty Robinson of Clanton, Peggy Crawford of Louisville, Ken., JoAnn Ricks of Birmingham and Jane Gore of Clanton; brothers Charles E. Mims of Clanton, Barney O. Mims of Richmond, Va.; sister Evelyn Scott of Clanton; 22 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Clay Hayes and two grandchildren.

Bradberry died Sunday, March 20 in Clanton. Survivors include four sons, Gerald Bradberry, Gene Bradberry, Norman Bradberry and Robert Bradberry, all of Clanton; two sisters, Minnie Pearl Silas and Ruby Bolton, both of Clanton; nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. (Buddy) Bradberry, her father, Robert Washington Mims and her mother, Dora Garner Mims.

She was a butcher. She died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster on Nov. 16, 2000. Survivors include her husband, Lucion Gandy, Clanton; two sons, Thomas E. Mims, Eclectic, and Michael D. Mims, Montgomery; two daughters, Margaret M. Adams, Eclectic, and Lula "Lou" Davis, Tallassee, Three sisters, Eufaula Smith, Bessemer, and Irene McClure and Evelyn Cleckler, both of Clanton; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Raymonds Pierson Mims, 88, of High Point, N.C., were Oct. 8, 1997, at Clanton City cemetery with Dr. Larry Michael officiating and Sechrest Funeral Service directing. Mr. Mims was born May 12, 1909, in Clanton to John Z. and Mary Vinson Mims. He graduated from the University of Alabama and had been a resident of High Point for three years. He had retired as an attorney with the U.S. Government and was a former judge in Alabama. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, the Optimist Club and Oak Ridge Presbyterian Church. He died Oct. 5, 1997, at Mary field Nursing Home in High Point, N.C. He is survived by two sons: Ray Mims, Jr. of Julian, N.C. and Hugh Thompson Mims of Atlanta; and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lois Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her husband Willie Grant. Funeral services will be held Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. with burial to follow at Chestnut Creek Baptist cemetery in Verbena, Ala.

Reed Mims of Clanton; daughter-in-laws, Eunice Mims of Clanton and Carolyn (Jesse Charles) Mims of Clanton; grandsons Steve (Alicia) Mims of Clanton, Jack A. Mims of Houston, Texas, and Greg R. Mims of Clanton granddaughter Karen Mims (Mark) Vansandt of Montgomery; great-grandchildren Rebecca Mims of Clanton; Matthew Mims of Clanton, Anthony Mims of Clanton, Ami Mims of Millbrook and Erin Vansandt of Montgomery; sister Corene Mims of Clanton, Betty Blalock of Clanton, JoAnn Wilson of Athens, Jane Mims of Clanton and brother John Baker of Clanton. Her husband, William Jackson Mims, preceded her in death.
