Services for Ruby Nell Pierson, 76, of Maplesville, are Thursday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at Sardis Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sardis cemetery in Maplesville. The Rev. William Short and Rev. Willard Ratliff will officiate and Martin Funeral Home will direct the service. Pierson died at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. She was a homemaker. Pierson is survived by her daughters, Lona Mitchell of Maplesville, Kathy Jones of Montgomery and Pam Culver of Austin, Texas; on sister-in-law, Evelyn Garrett of Clanton; one brother-in-law, Winston Thornton of Maplesville; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was the daughter of Gurney and Lina Brasher.

Plier, Charles Henry

Charles M. Plier, age 81, died Jan. 5, burial Clanton City Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Dutton Plier, 4 Daughters, Mrs. Joe Franklin, Mrs. Lee Popwell, Mrs. Horage Mims, and Mrs. Kate Marlow, 3 Brothers, and 1 Sister.

Plier, George Edward
May 17, 1886 - March 17, 1941
G. Ed Plier, age 53, killed in an auto accident at Baxley, Ga. Burial was Clanton City Cemetery. He was a Son of Late Charlie Plier who died Jan 5, he is survived by his Wife and by several Brothers and Sisters of Clanton.

Marshall Sidney Plier, age 49, died at the home of his Father, C. H. Plier, Friday. Burial Clanton City Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Ressie Plier, Parents, 3 Brothers and 4 Sisters.

Plier, Oscar B.
August 07, 1912 - May 24, 2000
Funeral services for Oscar B. Plier, 87, Jemison, will be held on Friday, May 26, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Frank Nelson and Rev. Ray Smitherman officiating. Burial will follow at Midway Memorial Gardens in Jemison with Martin Funeral Home directing. Plier was born on Aug. 7, 1912 in Chilton County, the son of the late George A. Plier and Mary Frances Plier. He was a residential contractor. He died on May 24, 2000 at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include his wife, Ollie Mae Plier, Jemison; two daughters, Lottie Bryant, Jemison, and Gearlene Hughes, Clanton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Gene Plier.

Kemp, Adeline (Popwell)
April 23, 1844 - May 09, 1930
Mrs. Adeline Kemp, age 87, died Friday night at the home of her Son, Tom Kemp. She was the widow of J. R. Kemp who died some 20 years ago. Burial was at Clanton City Cemetery. She is survived by 3 Sons, Tom and W. A. of this area and John Kemp of Birmingham. One Daughter, Mrs. Georgia Weldon.

Popwell, Alfred H.
February 07, 1844 - January 22, 1931
Mr. Alfred Popwell died Thursday Night, Jan. 22, at Central Ala. Hospital. He was 86. His father was Reuben Popwell and his Mother was Sarah Moore Popwell. The Popwells came here from Darlington, South Carolina, in April 1828. He is survived by his Widow who before he Marriage was Miss Anna H. Downs, a Sister of Gip and Boll Downs. Town Sons, L. D. and Dutch Popwell survive and two Daughters, Mrs. Wiley Gray of Clanton, and Mrs. Bud Thomas of Birmingham. Funeral was conducted at his Home in South Clanton by Elder Kelley. Burial was at the Popwell Cemetery.

Mrs. Annie H. Popwell, age 92, Widow of Late Alfred Popwell, died Tuesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wiley Gray in West End. Burial Popwell Cemetery. She is survived by one son, L. D. Popwell, 2 Daughters, Mrs. Ida Gray and Mrs. Fannie Thomas all of Clanton. She was a sister of Mr. J. B. Downs.

Popwell, Benjamin DeLeon

Leon B. Popwell, age 40, died Sat. from injuries suffered in a head on Collision about 1 mile North of Clanton. He is survived by his Wife, 1 son, 3 Daughters, by his Father, Ephraim B. Popwell, and 1 Brother, Raymond Popwell.

Mrs. Berter Popwell, age 23, Wife of Alphia Popwell died Monday. She was the Daughter of Mrs. S.E. Headley of Verbena. Burial was in the Clanton City Cemetery.

Miller, Callie Josephine (Popwell)

Mrs. Callie Miller, age 54, died in Tuscaloosa March 8. Burial was at Walnut Creek, she was the Widow of Mr. C. T. Miller. She survived by 3 sons, W. A. of Birmingham, J.C. of Prattville, and R. B. of Montgomery, and by 1 Adopted Daughter, Margaret of North Carolina, 3 Brothers, Alford, Emmett, and John Popwell of Clanton, 5 Sisters, Mrs. John Henley, Mrs. John Farley, Mrs. D. B. Lowe, Mrs. Walter Teel, and Mrs. H. G. Thomas. She was daughter of Late Reuben Popwell and Mary Ann Baker Popwell.

Popwell, Clifford
March 11, 1923 - December 22, 1928
Clifford, 5 year old Son of Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Popwell, died Dec. 22, of Pneumonia at Central Ala. Hospital. The burial was a the Clanton City Cemetery.

Popwell, Clyde Madison
August 30, 1913 - September 24, 1933
Clyde Popwell and Andrew Bone died Sunday from injuries received in a truck accident Sat. Clyde Popwell, age 20, and Andrew Bone was 35. The accident was 15 miles North of Clanton. Clyde Popwell was the Son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Popwell of Clanton and he was a very promising and popular young man. He was buried at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Andrew Bone was the Son of O. D. bone and is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Maude Gray Bone, and 2 Daughters, ages 10 and 12. He was buried at Bethany Cemetery.

Bowles, Elizabeth (Popwell)
July 22, 1851 - December 28, 1925
Mrs. Elizabeth Bowles of Bethsalem died Sunday morning at age 74. (She was a Daughter of Reuben and Sarah Moore Popwell.) Burial was at Bethsalem. Her Husband died earlier this year. Sons were Alphus Bowles of Clanton, W. S. Bowles of Billingsley, Charley Bowles of Jemison, J. W. Bowles of Bethsalem and one or two more children.

Callaway, Evelyn Gertrude (Popwell)

Funeral services for Evelyn Gertrude Callaway, 102, Sanford, N.C., will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Clanton on Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Bob Ledlow officiating. Burial followed at Clanton City Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Callaway was born on Aug. 23, 1897, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Robert and Leona Popwell. She was a school teacher. She died on Feb. 26, 2000, at Convalescent care of Lee County in Sanford, N.C. Survivors include one son, John R. Calloway, Sanford, N.C.

Mr. Popwell died July 5 at Hatley Health Care. Survivors include five brothers, James A. Popwell, Henry Popwell Jr., and Early Popwell of Clanton, Marvin Popwell of Huntsville, Marshall Popwell of Birmingham; and his sisters, Vedie Lee of Clanton, and Vera Abbott of Selma.

Burial was in Martin Memorial cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Popwell was born July 8, 1921, in Chilton County to the late James Monroe and Ida Kicker Popwell. He worked as a salesman. He died Feb. 20, 1998 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery. He is survived by his wife, Geneva M. Popwell of Clanton; three sons: Don Popwell of Clanton, Ricky Popwell of Millbrook and Jimmy Popwell of Montgomery; a daughter, Linda Gail Chandler of Montgomery; three sisters: Mary Fulmer of Alabaster, Mildred Clifton of Montgomery and Nell Littlejohn of Clanton; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Lorenzo Dow Popwell, 70, died Oct. 24. Burial was at the Popwell Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, 2 Daughters, Mrs. Loraine Eubanks, and Mrs. Louise Adams, and 1 Son, Ruben Popwell, two Sisters, Mrs. Wiley Gray, and Mrs. Fannie Thomas, 1 Brother, Dutch T. Popwell, Parents were Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Popwell who died several years ago. He operated a Watch Repair Shop in Clanton for many years.

Madison Popwell, age 90, died Sat. night at the home of his Son, W. L. Popwell of Clanton. He was the last member of the prominent pioneer Popwell Family of Chilton County. Burial was at Pleasant Grove Cemetery. He is the last surviving on of 8 Sons and 8 Daughters of Reuben and Sarah Moore Popwell. The 8 Sons were: William, Alfred, James, Moses, Joseph, Madison, Johs, and Benjamine. The 8 daughter were Mrs. Mary Ray, Mrs. Martha Miears, Mrs. Catherine Miears, Mrs. Jane Wyatt, Mrs. Sarah 'Sally' Eiland, Mrs. Elizabeth Bowles, Mrs. Amanda Downs and Miss Lonie Popwell. Madison was survived by 2 Sons, W. L. and Walter, 3 Daughters, Mrs. Irona Foshee, Mrs. Zuella Williams, and Mrs. Mary Baker, daughter Ada died at age 11.
