There is one Brother, Alfie Baker, 1 half-Brothers, Amos And Carey Baker, 2 Sisters, Mrs. Tom Mims, and Mrs. Lettie Powell. Her Husband Ruben Popwell died 15 years ago. She was a Daughter of Alfred Baker, Pioneer settler of Chilton County and the man for who this County was first named in 1868, Baker County. (Her Husband Ruben, was the Son of James and Mary Calloway Popwell. His Father and his wife's Father were half-Brothers who came from Darlington S.C., 1828.).

Funeral services for Mary Frances Fulmer, 87 of Alabaster, will be held Saturday, Feb. 1, 2003 at 1 p.m. with Elder Mike Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Popwell cemetery in Clanton. Visitation services will be held Friday, Jan.31 from 5-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home. Born on April 17, 1915 to James Monroe Popwell and Ida Kicker, she died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2003 at Briarcliff Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include her sons Jimmy Fulmer of Alabaster, Perry Fulmer of Mobile and Jerry Fulmer of Montevallo; sister Nell Littlejohn of Clanton; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Earnest A. "Red" Fulmer and a son, Roy E. Downs, preceded her in death.

Foshee, Myrtle M. (Popwell)
January 23, 1900 - April 26, 1935
Mrs. Garland Foshee (Myrtle Popwell) age 35, died Friday at the home of her Father, Mr. W. L. (Fate) Popwell of Clanton after an illness of several months. Burial was in the Clanton City Cemetery. She is survived by her Husband, and by her Parents, 2 Brothers, and 1 Sister, the Sister is Mrs. Julius Burnett of Clanton.

Wyatt, Sarah Jane (Popwell)
May 04, 1838 - January 14, 1929
Mrs. Jane (Popwell) Wyatt, age 91, died Monday at the home of her Son, T. G. Wyatt, 2 miles East of Clanton. She was sick one week with Flu and Pneumonia. She was the widow of G. Francis Marion Wyatt who died Sept 11, 1904. She was a Dau of Reuben and Sarah Moore Popwell, a Sister to Alfred Popwell. Four Son: Daniel, Reuben, Jim, and Tom Wyatt all of Clanton, 4 Daughters, Mrs. T. G. Taylor, Mrs. J. J. Maddox, Mrs. W.W. Robinson of Clanton, Mrs. Dora Dupree of Montgomery. Burial was beside the grave of her Husband at Providence Beat 16.

Popwell, Virginia Caton
December 27, 1927 - May 09, 1998
Funeral services for Virginia Caton Popwell, 70, of Clanton were May 10, 1998, at Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church with Rev. Jamie Barkley and Rev. Randy Reid officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pisgah Methodist cemetery in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Popwell was born Dec. 27, 1997, in Alabama to the late Sim and Etta Mae Caton. She was a homemaker. She died May 9, 1998, at her residence in Clanton. She is survived by three daughter: Bernice Jones, Jackie Staggs and Anita Smitherman, all of Clanton; two sons: Carl Lee Popwell and Charles David Popwell, both of Clanton; a brother, Henry Esmer Caton of Clanton; and four sisters: Tommie Bigbie of Millbrook, Cathy Milbrodt of Australia, Mary Etta Caton of Clanton and Teresa Hinkle of Millbrook.

Mrs. Aula Durbins Edwards, 61, died Sunday at the home of her Daughter, Mrs. Pearl Vinson, of Billingsley. Burial was at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. She is survived by 4 Sons, Marchell, Roscoe, Woodrow, and Charles Edwards, 5 Daughters, Mrs. M. L. Warren, Mrs. John Barnett, Mrs. Luther Traywick, Mrs. W. H. Pattillo, Mrs. Pearl Vinson, 4 Brothers, J. G. and Lee Popwell of Birmingham, Rufus L. Popwell of Seattle, and F. L. Popwell of Jemison, 4 Sisters, Mrs. D. L. Culp, Mrs. J. N. Culp, Mrs. L. N. Broadhead of Clanton, and Mrs. Alice Vinson of Montevallo.

Porter, Arnold E. S.
January 12, 1940 - May 25, 2001
Funeral services for Arnold E. S. Porter, 61 and a resident of Jemison, were held on Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Wade Watkins officiating. Interment followed at Midway Memorial. Born on Jan. 12, 1940, he was the son of the late Scott Elbert Porter and the late Grace Porter. A mechanic, he died on May 25, 2001 at Baptist-Montclair Medical Center in Birmingham. He is survived by two daughter, Phyllis P. Howard and Tina P. Patterson, both of Jemison; two sons-in-law, Lynn Howard and Mark Patterson, both of Jemison; two sisters, Doris Brasher and Delene Littleton, both of Jemison; two brothers, C. I. Porter and James Oscar Porter, both of Jemison; and two granddaughters, Chrissie Star Howard and Tiffany Renee Patterson, both of Jemison.

Funeral services for Arthur Johnson Porter, 87, Jemison, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at 9:30 a.m., with Rev. Bunion Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Archer's Chapel cemetery in Jemison, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Porter was born on Nov. 1, 1914, in Alabama, the son of the late George Washington Porter and the late Lula Manila Porter. He was a farmer and served in the Army. He died on Dec. 2, 2001, at his residence. Survivors include two sisters, Alice Hubbard and Odell Ellison, both of Jemison.

Born on Oct. 27, 1910 to John Henry Bice and Jennie Brasher Bice, she died July 24, 2003 at her residence in Thorsby. Survivors include her daughters Wilma (James) Hines of Prattville, Betty (Billy) Rawlinson of Clanton, Barbara (Ruben) Hayes of Thorsby and Ann (Athan) Plier of Jemison; sons J. E. (Dot) porter of Clanton, Floyd (Sue) Porter of Clanton, and Elmer (Doris) Porter of Clanton; brothers J.D. Bice of Jemison, G. W. Bice of Jemison; Berry Bice of Jemison, Oneal Bice of Jemison, Wayne Bice of Crosby, Tenn. and Benny Frank Bice of Jemison; sisters Lorene Ellison of Jemison, Aline Collum of Prattville, Ann Cofer of Alabaster and Leona Wells of Calera; 20 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and six great-great children. She is preceded in death by her husband William Edgar Porter.

Services for Pearlie Connell Porter , 99, of Clanton, will be held today, March 3, at Martin Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery with Reverend W. T. Cleckler officiating. Mrs. Porter, a homemaker, died at Hatley health care March 1. Survivors include her son, Tony Connell of Clanton; granddaughter, Sharon Bean of Clanton; grandsons, Randy, Danny and Joey Connell; 10 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She was the daughter of Milton and Cordelia Barrett.

Powell, Mary

Mrs. Mary Powell, age 76, died 5 miles South of Clanton last Sunday, Wife of Pate Powell. Before marriage was Miss Mary Ausborne, daughter of Rolin Ausborne. Burial was at the family cemetery on the farm where she lived.

Services for Lucille Powell Carroll, 88, of Clanton, were held Sunday, April 17 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matt DeBord and Rev. Jay Hurd officiating. Burial followed in the Martin Memorial Cemetery. Carroll died Friday, April 15.Survivors include her daughters, Peggy C. Wyatt of Clanton and Linda C. Mims of Deatsville; brother, Lamar Powell of Ozark; three sisters-in-law, Blanche Powell, Georgia Nell Powell, both of Clanton, and Peggy Powell of Ozark; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hughey Edward Carroll.

He was a laborer. He died on Sept 2, 2001, at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery. Survivors include his wife, Donna L. Powell, Prattville; one son, Tim D. Powell, Prattville; one grandson, Jeffrey Daune Powell and one granddaughter, Ashleigh Michelle Powell, Montgomery. The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Martin Funeral Home for funeral expenses.

Se worked as a nursing assistant. She died Aug. 23, 1998, at Elmore County Hospital in Wetumpka. she is survived by three sons: Phillip E. Davenport of Canton, Gordon Davenport of Marietta, Ga., and Bob Davenport of Placerville, Ca.; a daughter, Norma Daniel of Alex Cty; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Ray and James Davenport.

Born on July 9, 1933 to Henry Gavin Preston and Annie Lee Preston, he died May 12, 2003 at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include his wife Joyce Preston of Clanton; sons Michael D. (Joan) Preston of Mobile, Philip (Tammy) McCary of Chickasaw, Randy (Patti) Preston of Battle Ground, Wash. and Joshua McCary of Clanton; daughters Teresa P. (Marion) Watters of Mobile, Susan M. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ward Thrash, and two sons, Charles and Lloyd Thrash. She is survived by four daughters, Wanda Glazner of Clanton, Pearl Trimm of Texas, Floy Watkins of Mississippi and Brenda Brady of Florida; three sons, Recil Thrash of Georgia, George Thrash of Huntsville and Dewayne Thrash of Montevallo; 33 grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Survivors include one son, Randy P. Melton, Spanish Fort. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Melton.
