Graveside service for Alma S. Huff, 84, of Stanton, were April 27, 1993, at 11 a.m. in the Ebenezer Baptist cemetery in Stanton with the Rev. Scott Watson officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Huff was born April 27, 1908. She was a life long resident of Stanton and an educator in Chilton County Schools for 44 years. She was a charter member of the Chilton County Delta Kappa Gamma and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Mrs. Huff died April 26, 1993, at Warren Manor Nursing Home in Selma. She is survived by her husband, E. B. Huff of Stanton; her daughter, Laura Harrison of Stanton; her son, Emmett Huff of Clanton; her sister Mrs. W .J. Graham of Birmingham; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services for Elease Scott Cameron, 81, Clanton, will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2001, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m., with Rev. Bruce Payton and Rev. Willard Scott officiating. Burial will be at Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Cameron was born on Dec. 27, 1919, in Chilton County, the daughters of the late Finnis Scott and the late Maudie Mae Scott. She was a cook. She died on Aug. 11, 2001, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include on daughter, Juanita (Elvin) Mills, Clanton; one brother, J.P. Scott, Thorsby; one grandson, Greg Cameron, Clanton; one great-grandchild, Macy Cameron, Clanton; two step granddaughters, Lisa Childress, Jemison, and Vickie Chandler, Clanton; and five step great-grandchildren, Jason Pierce and Josh Pierce, both of Clanton, Austin Childress, Katlyn Childress, and Isabella Childress, all of Jemison.

Funeral services for Katie V. Scott, 93, of Clanton, were Sept. 9, 1998, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roland Davis and Rev. Jamie Barkley officiating. Burial was in Chilton Memorial Gardens in Clanton with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Scott was born May 5, 1905, in Alabama to the late Joshua and Sally Johnson. She was a homemaker. She died Sept. 7, 1998, at Vaughan Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. She is survived by a daughter, Arrita S. Varner of Clanton; three sons: Percy, Douglas and Mickey Scott, all of Clanton; a sister, Clotilde Thornton of Prattville; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Kenneth David Scott, 45, of Lakeland, who died from cancer at his home Tuesday, July 8, 2003, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at Dukes Steen Funeral Home with the Rev. Lee Fielder officiating. Interment will follow at Bushnell National cemetery in Bushnell. Mr. Scott was born Aug. 29, 1957, in Clanton, the son of William Scott and Margaret Jones. He owned and operated his own truck and was owner of Rising Star, LLC. A U.S. Army veteran, Scott served during Operation Desert Storm and had been attached to the 82nd Airborne Division and the 5th Special Forces Group. He was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church. He was a 1975 graduate of Chilton County High School. Survivors include his wife, Revena Scott, of Lakeland; his mother; his father; his stepfather, Wayne Jones, of Clanton; two sons, Russell E. Scott, and his wife, Ashley, both of Pontotoc, Miss., and Christopher Scott, of Jemison; one daughter, Stephanie Scott, of Selma; a stepdaughter Beth Brooks; two stepsons, Greg Brooks and Johnny Brooks; a sister, Sharon Nelms, and her husband Randy, both of Highland Lake; two stepsisters, Regina Lind, and her husband Mike, both of Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Wendy Green, and her husband, Bob, both of Harvest; one step-brother, Richard W. Jones II, and his wife, Marianne, both of Gainesville; six grandchildren; and a number of nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Ave., Auburndale, FL 33823.

Scott, Lucinda Nanny

Funeral services for Lucinda Nanny Scott, 88, Clanton, will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at 2 p.m., with Rev. William Short and Rev. Billy Wyatt officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Baptist cemetery in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directgin. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, from 5-8 p.m. Scott was born on Oct. 12, 1911 in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Newell and Betty Davenport. She was a homemaker. She died on Jan. 19, 2000, at Chilton Medical Center. Survivors include four sons, Elmer Earl Scott, Anniston, Hershel Sidney Scott, Cecil Wayne Scott, and Wilton Douglas Scott, all of Maplesville; three daughters, Dorothy Nell Absher, Prattville, and Glenda Sue Cleckler and Lois Lorene Lenoir, both of Maplesville; 31 grandchildren; and a host of great-and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Scott; one son, Wallace Howard Scott; and two granddaughters.

Samuel Scott died at his home in Verbena, age 78, burial was at Verbena Cemetery. He was a native of Va. He married Miss Lilla Gulledge of Verbena. He established a photo business in Clanton. He is survived by his Widow, 5 Daughters, and 2 Brothers.

Scott, Wallace Howard
February 15, 1939 - April 06, 1997
Funeral services for Wallace Howard Scott, 58, of Maplesville, were held on Tuesday, April 8, 1997 at the Hillcrest Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with the Reverends Danny Lucas and William Short officiating. Burial was at the Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Maplesville with the Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Scott was born in Alabama on February 15, 1939 to Lucinda Scott and the late Elmer N. Scott. He died at the VA Hospital in Birmingham on April 6, 1997. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer N. Scott. He is survived by his wife, Gloria A. Scott, Maplesville; his mother, Lucinda Scott, Clanton; a son and three daughters, Leslie H. Scott, Maplesville; Patricia D. Jackson, Jasper; Judy L. McCullough and Rita G. Thompson, Clanton; four brothers and three sisters, Earl Scott, Anniston; Sidney Scott, Wayne Scott, Douglas Scott, Lorene Lenoir and Glenda Cleckler, all of Maplesville; and Dorothy Absher, Prattville; 12 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. John T. Seales, 61, of Stanton were Jan. 27, 1998, at Alpine Baptist Church with Rev. William Short, Rev. Doug Powell and Rev. Danny Lucas officiating. Burial was in Alpine Baptist cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Seales was born on Aug. 30, 1936, to the late Thomas Calvin and Eula Seales. He worked as a mechanic. He died on Jan. 26, 1998, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. He is survived by his widow, Annie Sue Seales of Stanton; three sons: Tommy Seales and Terry Seales, both of Stanton, and James Payton of Maplesville; two daughters: Ellen Jones of Randolph and Peggy Dunkin of Stanton; one brother Robert Seales of Stanton; one sister, Jessie Nell Martin of Birmingham; two sons-in-law: Al Jones of Randolph and Greg Dunkin of Stanton; two daughters-in-law: Janet Seales and Tammy Seales of Stanton; and 11 grandchildren.

Mr. J.D. Sessions, age 78, died 9-14-1929 at Abanda in Chambers Co. He was the father of Ben J. Sessions of Clanton, burial was at Abanda.

Graveside services for Curtis Sewell, 79, of Saraland, Ala., were held April 28 at Antioch Methodist cemetery at 2 p.m. with Rev. William Short officiating. Mr. Sewell died April 26 at Spring Hill Memorial Hospital in Mobile, Ala. Survivors include his son, Jeff Sewell of Saraland, Ala.; brother, Raymond Sewell of Maplesville; sisters Elsie Sewell of Tarrant, Ala. and Evelyn Mitchell of Marion, Ala.; grandson Tyler McNair of Mobile, Ala. and Rachael Sewell of Mobile, Ala.

Davis, Murvis Etta (Sewell)

Services for Murvis Etta Davis, 81 of Selma, were held Saturday, Feb. 14 at the Selma Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Danny Raspberry and Rev. John Ingram officiated. Burial took place at the Ebenezer cemetery in Stanton. Visitation was held Feb. 13 at the Selma Funeral Home. Davis is survived by two sons, Ed Davis of Letohatchee, and Ronnie Davis of Selma; four daughters, Shirley Bush of Pelham, Mary Ann Payne of Stanton, Sandra Gail Rhodes of Lawley and Jean Christian of Selma; one brother, Willard Sewell of Selma; five sisters, Dee Maurer of Selma, Murrell Tucker of Covington, Ky., Ethelene Mitchell of Selma, Alberta Nicholes of Memphis, Tenn., and Shelby Jean Hale of Biloxi, Miss.; 22 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Matthew Davis, Christopher Moore, Daryl Payne, Ron Edward Davis, Tony Smith and Shane Davis.

Funeral services for Ruby Loese Baird, 79, Maplesville, will be held at Martin Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Antioch Methodist cemetery in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Baird was born on June 29, 1922, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Oscar Sewell and the late Bessie Sewell. She was a homemaker. She died on July 30, 2001, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include her husband, Dewey J. Baird, Jr., Maplesville, four daughters, Carolyn Paulette Spradlin, Maplesville, Shirley Ann McCormick, Judy Long, Anity Kay Sullivan, all of Clanton, one son, Jimmy Dale Smith, Clanton; two brothers, Raymond Sewell, Mobile, and Bill Sewell, Mobile; tow sisters, Elsie Mae Sewell, Wetumpka, and Evelyn Faye Mitchell, Suttle; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services for Elbert Jackson Short, 83, Maplesville, will be held at Hillcrest Baptist Church on Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Doug Powell, Rev. Billy Wyatt, and Rev. Matt Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Sardis Baptist cemetery in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Short was born on Jan. 14, 1918, in Chilton County, the son of the late James R. Short and the late Martha Frances Sansom. He was a school bus driver. He died on June 17, 2001, at Shelby Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include his wife, Willie Margaret Short, Maplesville; three sons, Bobby (Pat) Short, Clanton, and J. D. Short and Rev. William (Cindy) Short, both of Maplesville; three daughters, Willie Burton, Maplesville, Debra (Keith) Sikes, Denver, Co., Janet (Tommy) Seales, Stanton; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Short, Elinor Bernice

Graveside services for Elnior Short, 92, of Montgomery, were held Feb. 7 at 11 a.m. at Sardis Baptist Cemetery. Reverend William Earl Short officiated. Mrs. Short, a homemaker, died at Crowne Nursing Home Feb. 4. Survivors include her sons Jim Short of Montgomery and Erven Short of Tampa; daughter, Betty Wade of Daytona Beach; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was the daughter of Noah and Ida Chambers.

Hamrick, Hazel (Shoults)

Funeral services for Hazel (Shoults) Hamrick, 96, Thorsby, will be held at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 on Tuesday, April 30, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Greg Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church No. 2 cemetery in Maplesville, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Hamrick was born on Nov. 19, 1905, in Bibb County, the daughter of the late Clark Weldon Shoults and the late Della Mae Shoults. She was a sales clerk. She died on April 28, 2002, at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster. Survivors include two sons, Leo Hamrick, Centreville, and Bobby Hemrick, Millerton, Okla., 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira O. Hamrick, and one daughter, Linda Ruth Stapleton.

Silas, Gaines 'Guy'

Gaines Silas, age 68, died Dec. 28 in the Enterprise Community. Burial was at Mount Pisgah Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Ida Askins Silas, 3 Sons, John Sidney of Birmingham, Mack and Guy Silas of the Enterprise Community. Nine Daughters, Mrs. Mamie Presley of Weogufka, Mrs. Cora Bell Thomas and Mrs. Elna Taylor of Clanton, Mrs. Rhine Richards and Mrs. Celestia Chapman of Tuscaloosa, Mrs. Lee Strength of Verbena, Mrs. Myrtle Chandler of Fannin, Miss, Mrs. Bessie Hallman of Brent, and Mrs. Vivian Cagle of Birmingham, One Daughter, Nell, is Dead. One Brother, John Silas of Montgomery. He was born in Mississippi and came to this area at an early age. He married Miss Ida Askins in 1891.

Paul Simmons, age 64, was found dead on the Railroad Track, 2 miles south of Clanton early Sunday. Burial was at Maples Springs Cemetery. He is survived by 1 Brother, Jim Simmons of Cotton Valley, LA., 3 Sisters, Mrs. Pearl Gibson of Birmingham, Mrs. Josie Driver of Clanton, Route 2, and Mrs. Eva McCline of Alexander City. He was never married and lived with his Sister ahd her Husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Driver of the Maple Springs Community.

Simmons, Rocky Lane
September 30, 1955 - August 24, 1968
SIMMONS, Rocky Lane, age 12, Clanton, Ala., Rt. 1, died Aug 24, at the local hospital. Funeral services were held Aug 26 at 11 a.m. at Martin Chapel with burial at Robinson Springs cemetery. He is survived by the parents Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Simmons, Clanton; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Mims, Clanton; Mrs. Lougene Driver, Thorsby; four brothers, James Simmons, Thorsby; William, Joseph and Johnny Simmons all of Clanton; grandmother, Mrs. Laura Hilyer, Clanton.

Simpson, Levi "Lee"

Levi Simpson, age 32, died at his home 2 1/2 miles South of Clanton Saturday. Burial was at Popwell Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, 1 Son, age 5, and 1 Daughter, age 3.

Chandler was born on May 18, 1925 in Alabama, the daughter of the late Willis and Willie Sims. She was a seamstress. She died on Oct. 4, 1999, at her residence. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Reed, Jones; two sons, Curtis Chandler, Selma, and David Chandler, Billingsley; two sisters, Mary Austin, Selma, and Naomi Davis, Biloxi, Miss; three brothers, Clayton Sims, LeRoy, IL., Wilford Sims, Clanton, and Gene Sims, Maplesville; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, A. C. Chandler and one brother, W.F. Sims.
