Funeral services for Dean C. Stroud, 69, of Clanton, were held at New Covenant Baptist Church on Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Frank Nelson, Rev. Charles Brooks, and Rev. Charles Mims officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Mississippi Baptist cemetery in Verbena, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Stroud was born on June 4, 1930, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Clifford and Lena Fisher Culp. She was a sales clerk. She died on Sept 30, 1999 at her residence. Survivors include two daughters, Sherry Cooper and Kay Williams, both of Clanton; one son, Bobby Stroud, Dothan; two sisters, Frances Brown, White City, and Beatrice Ingram, Mobile; three brothers, Paul Culp and Don Culp, both of Clanton, and Robert Culp, Cheasapeake, Va.; and four granddaughters.

Atchison, Frances Lucille (Stough)
July 12, 1914 - November 24, 2001
Funeral services for Frances Lucille Atchison, 87, Maplesville were held on Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with Rev. Danny Rasberry officiating. Burial will be held at Maplesville Cemetery, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Atchison was born on July 12, 1914, the daughter of the late John Howell Stough and the late Margie M. Stough. She was a homemaker. She died on Nov. 24, 2001. Survivors include four daughters, Frances Burt and Alice Burnett, both of Maplesville, Shelby Matchan, Cropwell, and Dianne Atchison, Selma; seven sons, Donald Atchison, Joel Atchison, Paul Atchison and Howell Atchison, all of Maplesville, Eddie Atchison, Jacksonville, Fla., M. R. Atchison, Jr., Birmingham, Doyle Atchison, Alabaster; 32 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Deason, Alice Evans (Strock)
September 30, 1878 - August 19, 1934
Mrs. Elijah B. Deason died Sunday. Mrs. Alice Strock Deason, Wife of E.B. Deason, former Probate Judge, died at Noon Sunday in Boulder, Col. Burial will be in the Verbena Cemetery. She is survived by her Husband, 2 Sons, William E., age 23, and Charles S. age 21, one Sister, Mrs. M. K. Prescott of Indianapolis, 5 Bro., John A., William H., Judson, and Dr. Charles S. Strock of Verbena and S. J. Strock of Birmingham. She was born in Verbena 9-?-1909 (incorrect date). She lived in Clanton until 1919 when moved West on Account of the poor health of her Husband.

Stroud, Barney Owen/O'Neal
August 20, 1920 - January 09, 1979
Mr. Barney Owen Stroud, 58, of Verbena, died January 9, 1979 at Shelby Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Chilton County. Survivors include the wife, Mrs. Dean C. Stroud, Verbena; two daughters, Mrs. Sherry Cooper and Mrs. Kay Williams, both of Clanton; one son, Bobby Stroud, Verbena, one sister, Mrs. Valerie Vinson, Montgomery, one granddaughter. Funeral services were held Thursday, January 11, 1979, 2 p.m. at Bethany Missionary Baptist Church with interment in the adjoining cemetery. Rev. Morris Hull, Rev. S. P. Gray and Rev. Thomas Overstreet were the officiating ministers. Martin Funeral Home directing.

Stroud, William Hubert
January 17, 1906 - January 05, 1940
Hubert Stroud, age 34, of the Enterprise Community died of Pneumonia Friday. He had worked for last few years in the office of the County Farm Agent. Burial was at Bethany Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Alene Nivins Stoud, 3 Sons, 2 Daughters, Parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Stroud and 3 Brothers.
Hubert Stroud Died Following Brief Illness-President of County Farm Bureau is Victim of Pneumonia Attack- William Hubert Stroud, age 34, of Verbena Route 1, died last Friday at 6:10 A.M. after a brief illness of pneumonia. Mr. Stroud had served for two years as president of the Chilotn County Farm Bureau. He was widely known and well like by htose who came into contact with him. Funeral services were held from the residence at 11:00 A.M. Saturday conducted by REv. Joe Raines. Interment was in the Bethany cemetery with Spigener Funeral HOme in charge. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Aileen Nivens Stroud, three sons, Harold, Jimmie and Bilie; two daughters, Misses Helen and Len Stroud; parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Stroud of Verbena Route 2; three brothers, J. O., Birmingham, C. B., Jr. Birmingham and A. L. of Clanton. Pallbearers were Stanley Nivens, Houston Nivens, J. W. Fant, M. H. Lane, W. C. Wingard, J. Lee Yates, Charlie Breedlove and Marvin Durbin.

Carlton, Lillian Lourie (Sullivan)
June 20, 1914 - September 15, 1939
Mrs. Lillian Lourie Sullivan Carlton, age 25, Wife of Ed Carlton, Black Smith, died Sept 15. Burial Clanton City Cemetery. Survived by her Husband, Mother, Mrs. Nettie Eiland Sullivan, 1 Brother, Frank Sullivan, 2 Sisters, Mrs. Howard Lee and Mrs. Joe Baker. The Father, Charlie Sullivan Died 8 years ago.

Sumner, Muriel Franklin

Services for Murl Sumner, 78, of Jemison, will be held today, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at Pates Chapel Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery with Reverend Doug West officiating. Mrs. Sumner, a production worker, died at her home Feb. 11. Survivors include her brothers, Bobby Franklin of Jemison, George Franklin of Birmingham and Curtis Franklin of Jemison and sister, Vernell Hayes of Thorsby. She was the daughter of James and Lillie Franklin.

Surles, Sarah Ozelle
July 28, 1918 - May 04, 2000
Services for Mrs. Sara Ozelle Surles, 81, of Billingsley were Saturday, May 6, at 11 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Britton officiating. Burial was in New Cedron Baptist Church cemetery with Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Surles died at Warren Manor Nursing Home in Selma May 4. Survivors include a son, Ronnie Surles of Jemison; five Daughters, Mrs. Jerri Smitherman of Jones, Mrs. Susan Taylor and Mrs. Judi Edwards, both of Selma, and Mrs. Sara Sims of Billingsley; four sisters, Opal D. Donahoo of Billingsley, Mrs. Marie D. Fenn of Florence, Mrs. Carolyn Pierce of Verbena, 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Sutton, Jack E., Sgt.
December 21, 1926 - June 23, 1964
Three Killed on Perilous Curve of Highway 22
Two young children were left without parents Tuesday afternoon when three people were killed and five were injured in a head on, two-car collision on a curvy rain-slick stretch of Highway 22 North. The deaths hiked to twn Dallas County's traffic fatality total for 1964 and brought to four the number of lives lost on the crooked, bloody stretch of highway between Selma and Plantersville. The mishap also became the second in Dallas County in the last four months to claim both parents in a family. The highway Patrol reported that nearly twice as many people have lost their lives in traffic mishaps in the first half of this year as compared with the same period last year. Killed in the crash yesterday were Mark Hosey, 76, of Clanton, and Staff Sergeant John Eugene Sutton and his wife. Sergeant Sutton had been stationed in Fairfield, California, and was awaiting transfer orders overseas. During a brief leave, he and his family were visiting Mrs. Sutton's parents in Maplesville. The only passenger in the car driven by Hosey was Miss Marbara Lovelady, 27, of Maplesville. She suffered head and chest injuries and was listed in "fair" condition. Sergeant and Mrs. Sutton's two children, Jacqueline, 13, and Kitty, 10, were listed in "good" condition after being treated for cuts and lacerations. Debora Dees, a niece of Mrs. Sutton, was also treated for cuts and lacerations and listed in "good" condition. Her brother, Michael, suffered head injuries and was reported in "fair" condition. The Sutton family had been to the commissary at Craig AFB and was returning to Maplesville, Hosey and Miss Lovelady were traveling south.

Swindal, William Clyde
1919 - March 14, 2005
William Clyde Swindal, 86, died Monday, March 14, 2005, at a local hospital. Funeral services will be held at Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at the Chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home with Rev. Walter Johnson officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing. Burial will follow in Jones Baptist Cemetery. Family visitation will be Tuesday, March 15, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lawrence Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Mattie Maude Swindal of Jones; sons, Wayne (Faye) Swindal of Sprott and Johnny Swindal of Marion; sister-in-law, Evelyn (Raymond) DeRamus of Montgomery; grandsons, Scott Swindal and Shane Swindal; great-grandchildren, McKalya Swindal and Johnny Swindal. Active pallbearers will be Gerald Jordan, Grady Blevin, Elliot Lester, Bob Ed Reed, Danny Blue and Tommy Kelly.

Talley, Jeffrey Allen

Services for Jeffrey Allen Talley, 43, of Maplesville will be held today at Martin Funeral Home Chapel at 1 p.m. with Rev. Roger Vines officiating. Burial will follow in the Rock Springs Cemetery, Calera. Talley died Sunday, February 13 at his residence. Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Talley of Maplesville; mother, Frances Talley of Calera; two daughters, Angela Talley of Maplesville and Beverly Averette of Maplesville; step-sons, Chris Alexander and Mark Alexander, both of Thorsby; two grandsons, Brent Averette of Maplesville and Hunter Alexander of Calera; four granddaughters, Alyssa Alexander, Makaela Littleton and Brianna Smith, all of Maplesville and Kalista Alexander of Wilton; two brothers, Rev. Donald Talley of Clanton and Richard Talley of Jemison; two sisters, Camellia Fulgham of Montevallo and Darlene Dansby of Jemison; five nieces, Tracy Martin, Amy Santiago, Susan Talley, Flora Mae Fulgham and Cassidy Dansby; two nephews, Clifford Fulgham and Austin Dansby; and great nephew, Zachery Martin. He was preceded in death by his father, Luther Talley and nephew, Shannon Talley.

Tatum, Billy Clyde
April 01, 1934 - October 23, 1998
Services for Mr. Billy Clyde Tatum, 64, of Verbena were Sunday, October 25, at 1 p.m. at Pinedale Assembly of God with the Rev. Thurmond Cleckler and the Rev. Wendell Kelley officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery with the Martin Funeral Home directing. Mr. Tatum died October 23, 1998, at Chilton Medical Center in Clanton. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dean Tatum of Verbena; two sons, Billy Lyndon Tatum of Nashville, TN and Joseph Allen Tatum of Greensboro, NC; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia Guess and Mrs. Shelia Renee Roper, both of Verbena, and Mrs. Shelia Renee Friday of Prattville; five brothers, Russell Tatum of Birmingham, Sam Tatum of Texas City, TX, Silas Tatum of Gardendale, Paul Tatum of Prattville and Gerald Tatum of Montevallo; three sisters, Mrs. Toy White and Mrs. Betty Murray, both of Prattville, and Mrs. Elizabeth Popwell of Alexander City; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Parrish, Annie (Taylor)
March 06, 1878 - July 22, 1926
Mrs. Annie Parrish, age 48, wife of Sam Parrish of Clanton, died at the home of Samford DeVaughn on July 22. She had a large goiter and had eaten and went out to sit in a swing on the porch and died suddenly. She had no Children. She was the daughter of T. G. Taylor. Burial was at Concord.

Services for Betty Burkhalter Cox Taylor, 72, of Decatur, were Monday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Baptist Church, Verbena, with Rev. Jason Clouse and Rev. Craig Carlisle officiating. Burial followed in the Bethany Baptist Cemetery. Martin Funeral Home directed. Taylor died November 12 at Huntsville Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Arthur S. Taylor of Decatur; three sons, Keith Cox of Hueytown, James J. Taylor of Alaska, and Derek O. Taylor of Acworth, Georgia; three daughters, Rene' Williams of Birmingham, Janet E. Taylor of Rockvale, TN, and Amber I. Taylor of Birmingham; brother, Wayne Burkhalter of Leeds; six grandchildren, Casey Cox of Hueytown, Grayson Dean Taylor of Acworth, Georgia, Sarah Keathley Williams of Birmingham, Katie Kensith of Clearwater, Florida, Jasmine R. Hoffman of Acworth, Georgia and Kennedy Jean Taylor of Acworth, Georgia.

Taylor, Dorothy Nell (Blalock)

Funeral services for Dorothy (Blalock) Taylor, 76, Montgomery, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at 1 p.m., with Rev. Don Graham, Rev. Jeff Hughes, and Rev. Hershel Blalock officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held at Martin Funeral Home on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, from 5-8 p.m. Taylor was born on July 7, 1925, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Ivy O. Blalock and the late Janie Taylor Blalock. She was retired after teaching for 42 years at Chilton County High School and John Patterson Community College. She died on Feb. 12, 2002, at Baptist East Medical Center in Montgomery. Survivors include one daughter, Janie E. Taylor, Montgomery; one brother, Thomas C. (Birdie) Blalock, Clanton; one nephew, Thomas A. Blalock, Huntsville; and many students and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Taylor.

Taylor, Ella
February 07, 1885 - January 26, 1923
Mrs. Ella Baker, age 38, Wife of Jesse Baker, died at home 2 miles east of Clanton last Friday following an extended illness. She was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Taylor, burial was at Temple Cemetery.

Allen, Lucille (Taylor)
June 30, 1910 - October 05, 1999
Funeral services for Lucille (Taylor) Allen, 89, a resident of Macon, Ga., and formerly of Montgomery, will be held in Montgomery on Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Leak Memory Chapel, with Rev. Jay Wolf officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, with Leak Memory Chapel directing. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Active pallbearers will be Walter Allen Akridge, Neal Smart, George McCain, Pete Summer, Steve Roberts, and Olin Vinson. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Lucille Taylor Allen Sunday School Class and members of the William Walker Allen Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. Allen, the daughter of the late James Robert Taylor and the late Dora Hammond Taylor, was born in Clanton and had lived in Macon, Ga., the past four years after moving from Montgomery. She attended Livingston State University in Livingston and was retired from the Alabama State Forestry Commission. Allen was a member of First Baptist Church in Montgomery, where she taught Sunday School for 70 years. She was active in WMS, Mother's Circle, and was a reader for the blind. She died on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Swann, Macon, Ga.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Her husband of 61 years, William Walker Allen, preceded her in death. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Nalerigu Baptist Medical Center of Ghana, c/o Ingleside Baptist Church, 834 Wimbish Rd., Macon, Ga. 31210, or c/o First Baptist Church, Montgomery, AL.

Taylor, Sarah B. 'Sallie'
1863 - June 1929
Dated 6-06-1929, Mrs. Sallie Taylor, age 66, died at her Home in Clanton last Thursday. Burial Concord Cemetery. Her Husband Tom G. Taylor, 4 Sons, and 4 Daughter survive. Mrs. Taylor was a daughter of G.F.M. and Jane Popwell Wyatt. Her Father died 1904 and her Mother died 4 months ago at age 91. Her Sons: Roland W., Tommie M., Grady and Jimmy Taylor, Daughters are Mrs. E.F. MIms, Mrs. Ollie McDowell, Mrs. I.O. McDowell, and Mrs. Samford DeVaughn.

Tom Taylor, Tax collector of Chilton County was killed Jan. 8, in a car crash at Cordrey's Old Mill South of Clanton. Burial was at Concord Cemetery. He is survived by his Wife, Mrs. Alla Askins Taylor, 2 Brothers, Roland and Jimmy Taylor, 4 Sisters, Mrs. I.O. Blalock, Mrs. E.P. Mims, Mrs. O.H. McDowell, and Mrs. S.M. DeVaughn.
