Burial followed at Cedar Grove Methodist Church cemetery in Thorsby, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Thornton was born on Jan. 27, 1911, in Coosa County, the son of the late James William and Roxie Ellen Stroud Thornton. He was a carpenter. He died on Jan. 14, 2000, at Prattville Baptist Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Clotilde Johnson Thornton, Prattville; Gerry Motley, Deatsville; one son, Terry Wayne Thornton, Prattville; one sister, Romie Wright, Orlando, Fla.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

Thornton, Isaac Newton
August 12, 1854 - February 17, 1945
I. N. Thornton, age 89, died at the home of his Daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Hilyer at Coopers, Feb. 17, 1945. He was born in Coosa county 8-12-1854. Burial was at Swamp Creek cemetery in Coosa County. Survived by 5 Sons, Will of Montgomery, Houston of Spiegner, Theodore of Clanton, Charlie of Coopers, Zebbie of Texas, and 3 Daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Hilyer of Coopers, Mrs. Rossie B. Gilliland of Clanton, Mrs. Merriel Nelson of Verbena, and 1 Brother, Rasch Thornton of Titus in Coosa County and 62 grandchildren.

Thornton, James Harold
June 19, 1938 - February 05, 2001
Funeral services for James Harold Thornton, 62, Clanton, will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001, at 3 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ralph Jones and Rev. David Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Thornton was born on June 19, 1938, in Chilton County, the son of James Smolon and the late Velma Thornton. He was a computer consultant and educator. He died on Feb. 5, 2001, at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham. Survivors include his wife, Judy Thornton, Clanton; one son, Mark Alan Thornton, Clanton; two daughters, Paula Beth Thornton and Jill Thornton Cox, both of Clanton; his father, James Smolon Thornton; one sister, Janice Thornton Wilson, Deatsville; and two grandchildren.

Services for James Thornton, 89, of Deatsville, were held March 8 with burial at Chestnut Creek Baptist Church. Reverend Ralph Jones officiated. Mr. Thornton, a vending machine operator, died at Elmore County Hospital March. 6. Survivors include his daughter, Janice Wilson of Deatsville; sisters, Clarice Thornton and Marie Armstrong of Clanton; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was the son of J. T. and Rena Thornton.

Graveside services for Roxie A. Thornton, 90, of Cook Springs were Jan. 8, 1998 at Chestnut Creek Baptist cemetery in Verbena with Rev. Cecil Little officiating and Martin Funeral Home directing. Mrs. Thornton was born Oct. 29, 1908, in Chilton County to the late Dock and Ann Calloway Bryant. She was a housewife. She died Jan. 6, 1998, in Cook Springs. She is survived by two sisters, Zadie Todd of Pelham and Ludellia Franks of Plains, Ga.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

J. W. Tippett, age 63, died at the home of a Son, J. H. Tippett, Clanton Route 6 last Sat. Burial was at Samaria. He is survived by his Wife, 8 Sons and by 2 Daughters, Mrs. Ola Bridges of Rockford, and Mrs. Annie Mae Vinson.

Funeral services for Linda Gail Thrash, 56 of Jemison, were held Monday, Jan. 27, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas E. Hilyer officiating. Burial followed at Rocky Mount Methodist cemetery in Jemison. Born on Dec. 15, 1046 to Johnny V. Blow and Lucille Blow of Chilton County, she died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 at Briarcliff Nursing Home. Survivors include her husband Rodney Thrash of Jemison; sons Anthony Roper of Jemison and Aubrey Roper of Jemison; daughter Angela (Sammy) Fuller of Jemison; sister Peggy (Bobby) Ellison of Clanton; grandchildren Savanna, Deanna and Adreanna Simmons of Jemison; nieces Lesia (Alan) Childress of Clanton and Vickie Chandler of Clanton; great nieces Isabell and Katlyn Childress of Clanton and great nephews Austin Childress and Josh and Jason Pierce of Clanton.

Funeral services for Margaret Virgie Thrash, 81, Clanton, will be held on Friday, Dec. 7, 2001, at 11 a.m., with Rev. Carolyn Jones and Bro. Billy Maddox officiating. Burial will follow at Chilton Memorial Gardens, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Thrash was born on Dec. 4, 1920, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late Henry Richard Bradley and the late Esie Broadhead Bradley. She was a waitress. She died on Dec. 5, 2001, at Bessemer Carraway. Survivors include one son, Billy M. Bearden, McCalla; three daughters, Ardell Payton and Gwen Reynolds, both of Clanton, and Gail Foshee, Jemison; one brother, Herman R. Bradley, Grant; six step-daughters, Linda Arthur, Montgomery, Joyce Clark, Slapout, Charlotte Grier, Jemison, Ruby Bedgood, Selma, Mavis Brand, Montevallo, Maxine Bearden, Panama City, Fla.; eight grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

Trapp, Edith Mae

Funeral services for Edith Mae Trapp, 74, of Eastaboga, were Feb. 12, 1999, at Gray Brown Service Chapel with Rev. Larry Brooks officiating. Burial was in the Trapp Family cemetery with Gray Brown Service Chapel directing. Mrs. Trapp had lived in Eastaboga most of her life. she was a member of Antioch Baptist church. She died Feb. 9, 1999. She is survived by three daughters: Elizabeth Lathem of Munsford, and Diane Easterwood and Marie Bentley, both of Eastaboga; five sons: Bobby Rollan and Ralph Rollan, both of Clanton, Ernest Rollan and Matthew Trapp, both of Eastaboga, and Henry Trapp of Anniston; a sister, Gladys Cleckler of Clanton; 22 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Trapp. Pallbearers were Bobbie McVey, Buddy Mann, Ricky Mann, Teddy Lathem, Mark Bell, Jeremy Fuller, Joe Woodard and Danny Bentley.

Howard Y. Aulston, age 19, Senior at Chilton County High School died at the home of his Sister, Mrs. Grover Harris of Clanton Monday. Burial was at Chestnut Creek. Survived by his Parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Aulston of Mt. Creek, 2 Brothers, Russell and Eugene, 2 Sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Milstead and Mrs. Estelle Harris. (Please Note: his Mother was Lula Hazel Wright Aulston, daughter. of Mrs. Lucinda Ray Wright and John Wright.)

Apperson, Louise Foshee
January 25, 1914 - March 13, 1999
Funeral services for Louise Foshee Apperson, 85, Maplesville, were held on Monday, March 15, 1999, Martin Funeral Home Chapel with pastors Jim Shannon and Ed Vickrey conducting the service. Burial was held in the Old Maplesville Cemetery. Mrs. Apperson passed away on Saturday, March 13, 1999, at her home in Maplesville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Calhoun M. Foshee and Sue Snow Foshee, and her husband, Charles L. Apperson. Mrs. Apperson was a retired educator. She received her bachelor's degree from Huntingdon College and her graduate degree from Auburn University. Her teaching career began at Parrish High School in Walker County. She also taught at Maplesville High School before becoming lunchroom and attendance supervisor in the Chilton County School System. During this time she also worked for the State Department of Education as a supervisor and teacher in lunchroom Workshops throughout the state. Mrs. Apperson was an active member of many professional organizations, including the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Apperson is survived by one brother Calhoun M. Foshee; one stepson, Gordon Apperson; and a number of cousins and a host of very close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to hour favorite charity.

Miss Lorene Arant, 15 year old Daughter of Jake Arant, died at Prattville Hospital Tuesday. She died of Pneumonia and her Father is very ill at his home in Wadsworth with Pneumonia. The Deceased is a Sister of Mrs. Walter Culp of Clanton.

Burial will follow in the Pine Flat Cemetery, Deatsville. Arant died Sunday, October 17.Surviving are her sons, Burl Arant of Prattville, Ray Arant of Spanish Fort, Ala., David Arant of Prattville and Mark Arant of Verbena; daughter, Pam Brown of Marbury; two brothers, A.J. Booth of Prattville and Macon Booth of Deatsville; 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, seven step-sons and a host of step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray H. Arant.

Funeral services for Marvreen C. Armstrong, 88, Union Springs, will be held at Martin Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at 11 a.m., with Dr. Larry Michael and Rev. Jay Hurd officiating. Burial will follow at Martin Memorial cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, from 6-8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Chapel. Armstrong was born on Jan. 20, 1913, in Chilton County, the daughter of the late John M. Cox and the late Nezzie Cox. She was an inspector. She died on Nov. 28, 2001, at her residence. Survivors include one son, James (Pat) Armstrong, Clanton; two sisters, Delene Smith, Sarasota, Fla., and Ruth Williams, Clanton; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. The family requests no flowers. One may send donations to the First Baptist Church of Clanton Building Fund.

Burial will follow at Shiloh Baptist cemetery in Clanton, with Martin Funeral Home directing. Traywick was born on Feb. 23, 1938 in Chilton County, the son of the late Herbert Dewey and Annie Mae Traywick. He was a heavy equipment operator. He died on March 6, 2000, at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster. Survivors include his wife, Bobbie O. Traywick, Clanton; one daughter Tina Traywick Perry, Clanton; one son, Herbert Dewey Traywick, Clanton; a foster sister, Mary Traywick Pate, Birmingham; and other friends and relatives. Knight, Clanton; one sister Irene McKay, Clanton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
