Dempsey

DOTHAN — Services for Sandra Diane Pressley Dempsey, 63, of Dothan, formerly of Anniston, will be 4:30 p.m. today at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel in Anniston. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens.

Mrs. Dempsey died Friday in Dothan.

Survivors include two sons, Joseph "Jody" Dempsey and his wife, Chandra, of Tuscaloosa; a daughter, Dana Dian "Deede" Dempsey of Auburn; a stepdaughter, Peggy Haynes of Anniston; two stepsons, Larry Dempsey and his wife, Janice, and Rodney Dempsey and his wife, Rita, all of Anniston; a stepdaughter, Peggy Haynes of Anniston; a sister, Patsy Rockwell and her husband, Scott, of Dothan; a brother, Jackie Pressley and his wife, Rea, of Atlanta; four grandchildren, Tyler Dempsey of Tuscaloosa, Van Dempsey and his wife, Ashley, of Orlando; Kathy Padgett and her husband, Dusty, of Anniston, and Jamie Haynes of Anniston; two great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Cindy Cutchin and Ashley Rockwell; and four special friends, Jean Richie, Bernice Martin, Steve Martin and Russ Payne.

Pallbearers will be Allen Rockwell, Jackie Cutchin, Chris Stewart, Taylor Stewart, Todd Davidson and Jeff Marion.

Mrs. Dempsey was a native of Anniston, where she lived most of her life. She had lived in Dothan eight years. She was a former manager of the Annistonian Restaurant and was a member of Indian Oaks Christian Church, the FOP and Elks Lodge. She was preceded in death by her husband, former Anniston Police Captain John Henderson Dempsey.

Gilbert

DeARMANVILLE - Services for Nettie J. Gilbert, 64, of DeArmanville will be 2 p.m. Monday at New Prospect Baptist Church in Choccolocco with Rev. Sloan Gresham officiating. Burial will be in Forestlawn Gardens in Anniston with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. The family will receive friends 5-7 tonight at Ervin Chapel of Chimes. The body will be at the church at 1 p.m.

Ms. Gilbert died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Lionel Brown of Atlanta; a brother and sister-in-law, L.J. and Velma Gilbert of Choccolocco; her mother, Christen Gilbert of DeArmanville; a grandchild, Porter Brown of Atlanta and a friend and companion, Curtis Mill of Anniston.

Pallbearers will be her nephews.

Ms. Gilbert was a retired beautician. She was preceded in death by her father, Jim Gilbert; a sister, Bernice Gilbert and two brothers, Edward and Earl Gilbert.

Nolen

HEFLIN - Services for infant Baylee Leann Nolen will be announced by Dryden Funeral Home of Heflin.

The infant died Thursday at UAB in Birmingham.

Prestridge

TALLADEGA — Services for Willard Lee Prestridge, 60, of Talladega will be 10 a.m. Monday at Usrey Chapel with Rev. Roger Young officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery in Phenix City. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Prestridge died Thursday at Citizens BMC Hospital.

Survivors include two daughters, Ranie Cook of Munford, and Amy Ware of Waco, Texas; two sons, Scott Prestridge and Matthew Prestridge, both of Munford; a sister, Gaynell Prestridge of Talladega; nine grandchildren, and his mother, Fannie Gay Prestridge of Clay County.

Honorary pallbearers will be the 11- and 12-year-old Cardinals of Munford Little League.

A Clay County native, Mr. Prestridge lived most of his life in Talladega County. He was a Vietnam Veteran, and he coached Munford Little League for many years.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Munford Little League.

Prickett

Services for John "Jack" Robert Prickett Sr., 79, of Anniston will be 10 a.m. Monday at Union United Methodist Church of Wellington with Pastor Thomas L. McMinn Jr. officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery with Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel in charge. The family will receive friends 9-10 a.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. Prickett died Friday in Anniston.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Parrish Prickett of Anniston; two sons, John Robert Prickett Jr. and his wife, Cindy Christy, of Eustis, Fla., and Tommy Prickett and his wife, Bonnie Broyl, of Covington, La.; a sister, Sarah Williamson of Jacksonville; three brothers, Charles Prickett, Edd Prickett and Leon Prickett, all of Wellington; five grandchildren, Scott Prickett Becker, Blair Parrish Prickett, Christy Prickett McCain, Jacquelyn Swann Prickett and Cannon Parrish Prickett; and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Prickett was a Wellington native. He lived most of his life in Calhoun County and was a life-long member of Union United Methodist Church. He was a graduate of Alexandria High School and graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1949. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired as a Captain from Eastern Airlines. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Prickett Wilson.

Roberson

Services for Negretta L. Roberson, 43, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rest Haven Baptist Church in Anniston with Dr. Bill Ray Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hill Cemetery in Anniston with Goodson Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 12-8 p.m. today. The body will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

Ms. Roberson died April 19 at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Candice P. Roberson of Anniston; five sisters, Linda Molock, Brenda Roberson, Willie Woodard, Sondra Roberson, all of Anniston, and Florene Champion of Columbus, Ga.; and three brothers, Charlie Brewster of Birmingham, Leonard Brewster of Bradenton, Fla., and Benjamin Roberson of Anniston.

Pallbearers will be Devon Young, William Huguley, Tyrell Jordan, Everett Jones, Cornelius Molock and Shefton Goodson.

Ms. Roberson was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Ardella Roberson. She graduated from the Alabama School for the Blind. She was a member of Rest Haven Missionary Baptist Church.

Smith

ASHLAND - Services for Gene E. Smith, 70, of Ashland will be 11 a.m. today at Big Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining Cemetery, with Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland in charge. The family will receive friends at the funeral home until 10:30 a.m. today.

Mr. Smith died Friday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include his wife, Mavine W. Smith of Ashland; two daughters, Jennifer Hand and Pam Cline, both of Ashland; a son, Ronnie Smith of Ashland; three sisters, Sara Smith of Ashland, Barbara Hardegree of Anniston and Gail Grogan of Lineville; a brother, Roger Smith of Franklin, N.C.; three grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roger Smith, Jimmy Smith, James Hand, Bradley Cline, Roland Wallace and Denny Hodge.

Mr. Smith was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. He was a Millerville High School graduate. He had been employed with Madix in Goodwater as a supervisor for more than 26 years. He was a Navy veteran and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.

Watson

Charles Watson, 78, of Anniston died Saturday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Betty R. Watson of Anniston; two daughters, Gerri Bradshaw of Cleveland, Ga., and Karen Burke of Anniston; five sons, Larry Watson, Ricky Watson and Danny Watson, all of Georgia, Bruce Watson of Florida, and Mitchell Watson of Heflin; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Watson was the owner of House of a Thousand Frames, but had been retired for 15 years. He was a native of Jackson County, N.C., and had lived in Anniston five years. He was a World War II veteran and a Baptist.

Wigington

FRUITHURST - Services for Noah Scott Wigington, 4, of Fruithurst will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Fruithurst Baptist Church with Revs. Robert Murphy and James Owens officiating. Burial will be in Camp Creek Cemetery in Fruithurst.

The child died Friday in Cleburne County.

Survivors include his parents, Mitch and Tanya Wigington of Fruithurst; a sister, Emily Wigington of Fruithurst; a brother, Brendan Wigington of Fruithurst; grandparents, Elaine and James Dean, of Fruithurst and Hazel and Charles Wigington of Heflin; and a great-grandmother, Ruby Wigington of Prentess, Miss.

Pallbearers will be his friends.

Noah Scott was a lifelong resident of Cleburne County. He attended Camp Creek Baptist Church.

Wilson

GAYLESVILLE — Services for Jerry Robert (Bob) Wilson Sr., 73, of Gaylesville will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Tuesday in Chatham Hills Memorial Gardens in Marietta, Ga. The family will receive friends 6-8 Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Wilson died Saturday in Rome, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Brown Wilson; two sons, Jerry Robert Wilson Jr. and his wife, Leona, and David Allen Wilson and his wife, Tammy, all of Gaylesville; two daughters, Sherry Garrett and her husband, Freddie of Marietta, Ga., and Donna Brown and her husband, Wayne, of Temple, Ga.; a son-in-law, Dillard Ledford of Marietta; three brothers, Verlin E. Wilson of Taylorsville, Ga., Eugene F. Wilson of Hiram, Ga., and Hoyt J. Wilson of Dallas, Ga.; a sister, Shirley Brown of Acworth, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Mr. Wilson was retired from Ryder Truck Line. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and a member of the 187th Airborne Rakkasan Association. He was a native of Fulton County, Ga.

Brock

BLAINE, Minn. - Memorial services for Gregory James Brock, 45, of Blaine, Minn. will be 2 p.m. Thursday at K.L. Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center chapel in Jacksonville with Revs. Ray Johnson and Garry Ragsdale officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home an hour prior to services.

Mr. Brock died Friday at his home.

Survivors include his parents, James and Joyce Brock of Anniston; a sister and her husband, Kristin and Wayne Hambrick of Saks; a brother, Stephen Brock of Jacksonville; two uncles and their wives, and a niece.

Mr. Brock was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He was a member of the Minnesota Freedom Band and a former member of the Jacksonville State University Marching Southerners. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Miles Brock; and twin brothers.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church C.T.V. Fund (Building Fund), 101 Zion Road, Alexandria, AL 36250.

Burroughs

ATLANTA - Services for Barbara Lee Veal Burroughs, 77, of Atlanta will be 1 p.m. CDT Thursday at Mount Olive United Methodist Church in Wadley with Revs. Hollis Boykin and Fredrick R. Gray officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Clark Memorial Funeral Service in Roanoke 10 a.m.-6 p.m. today. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Burroughs died Sunday at Athena Rehab of Clayton in Lake City, Ga.

Survivors include a sister, Willie Ruth Veal of Wadley; an aunt, El Dora Rowe; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Burroughs was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Burroughs; and her parents, William and Lorena Rowe Veal.

Carr

TALLADEGA - Services for Alice Marie Carr, 74, of Talladega will be 2 p.m. today at Usrey Funeral Home with Revs. Steve Mitchell and Randy Hagan officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Mausoleum.

Mrs. Carr died Monday at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Hoot G. Carr; two sons, Leonard Carr and Keith Carr, both of Talladega; a sister, Rebecca Walker of Ashland; and three grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Billy Carr, Junior Carr, Roger Carr, Dewayne Walker, Ronnie Walker and Terry Hanner.

Mrs. Carr, a Clay County native, had lived in Talladega the past 20 years. She was a member of Hatchett Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Talladega Vocational Center.
