Rimpsey

Services for Ben Rimpsey Jr., 68, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at New Beginning Ministries with Pastor Patricia Satcher officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery with Anniston Funeral Service in charge. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mr. Rimpsey died Wednesday at Jacksonville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include five sisters, Doris J. Hines, Rebecca Whatley and Bennie Monds and her husband, David, all of Chicago, Sylvia Curry of Atlanta and Patricia Satcher and her husband, Jerry, of Anniston; a brother and his wife, Rev. F.V. and Mae Rimpsey of Anniston; and his mother, Doris Ector Rimpsey of Anniston.

Pallbearers will be nephews.

Mr. Rimpsey, a longtime Alabama resident, was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church. An Air Force veteran, he was a school teacher and librarian in Chicago.

Sides

JACKSONVILLE - Services for Jimmie Miller Sides, 75, of Jacksonville will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville with Revs. James Robertson and Stanley Clark officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at K.L. Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Center.

Mr. Sides died Monday at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1025, Jacksonville, AL 36265.

Smith

LINEVILLE - Services for Curtis Eugene Smith, 77, of Lineville will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with Rev. Jerry Colquett officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Mr. Smith died Sunday at Lineville Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Smith; two daughters, Kathy Joyce Smith and Tru Jean Davidson of Lineville; a stepdaughter, Shelia Coke of Atlanta; five sons, Michael Eugene Smith of Atlanta, James David Smith and Joel Glenn Smith, both of Talladega, Mark Steven Smith and Edward Curtis Smith, both of Lineville; three sisters, Faye Cotney of Oxford, Nettie Gay Suggs of Ashland and Wynelle Atkinson of Jasper, Ga.; two brothers, Roy Smith and Lester Smith of Alexander City; and 12 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Leon Suggs, Billy Suggs, Bobby Cotney, Wendell Wolfe, Mark Heard and Mark Smith.

Mr. Smith, a Clay County native and longtime resident and former Talladega resident, was Baptist. He was a Navy veteran.

Stockdale

Services for Jesse Lewis Stockdale, 77, of Anniston will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Ralph Turne officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery with Ervin Funeral Chapel in charge. The family will receive friends 12-8:30 p.m. today and 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday at the funeral home. The body will be at the hall an hour prior to services.

Mr. Stockdale died Saturday at Beverly Health Care in Oxford.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Stockdale; two sons, Jesse L. Stockdale of Anniston and Titus Stockdale and his wife, Lisa, of Chicago; three daughters, Patricia Smith, Vicki Kelly and Wendy Matthews and her husband, Ronald, all of Chicago; a sister, Gertrude Stockdale of Anniston; two stepdaughters, Deborah Edwards and Dorothy Renee Park; three stepsons, Cleophas Robinson, Timothy Robinson and Kenneth Robinson; 25 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family.

Alexander

RAINBOW CITY - Services for Russell Alan Alexander, 38, of Rainbow City will be 2 p.m. today at Gray Brown-Service Mortuary in Anniston with Rev. George McKenzie officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to services.

Mr. Alexander died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

Survivors include three brothers, Charles M. Alexander Jr. of Abel, Michael L. Alexander of Ragland and Patrick Mark Alexander of Oxford; a stepbrother, Michael Waldrop of Lineville; a stepsister, Sharon Nowland of Lineville; and his stepmother, Daisy Alexander of Lineville.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Watts, Fred Adkinson, Grady Stallings, John Palmer, Jim McReynolds, Mark Alexander Jr., Daniel Alexander and Frankie Crumb.

Mr. Alexander, a Calhoun County native, was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles M. and Patricia Ann Alexander; and a stepbrother, Randy Waldrop.

Bliss

TALLADEGA - Graveside services for Willie Nell Bliss, 81, of Talladega will be 10 a.m. Friday at Orangevale Cemetery. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Talladega with Rev. Leeann Scarborough officiating.

Mrs. Bliss died Wednesday at her home.

Survivors include two daughters, Deborah Louise Bliss Waller of Talladega and Sarah Catherine Bliss Wright of Mobile; two sons, Richard F. Bliss Jr. and William B. Bliss, both of Talladega; and seven grandchildren, Alice Wright, Mary Louise Waller, Michael Waller, Maria Bliss, Richard F. Bliss III, Mandy Bliss and Emma Bliss.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Mrs. Bliss, an Arkansas native and longtime Talladega resident, was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was an interior designer, specializing in historic and traditional interiors. She received the 2004 Lifetime Achievement Award of the Cottaquilla Council of Girl Scouts of America. June 22 was proclaimed "Billy Bliss Day" by the City of Talladega. She was a member of the Alabama Historical Commission.

Burns

PIEDMONT - Services for Clara Faye Burns, 79, of Piedmont will be 2 p.m. Friday at Holly Crossroads Baptist Church with Revs. Gene Burns, Harland Beechum and Carry G. Parris officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at Folsom-Mickelsen Funeral Home. The body will be at the church an hour prior to services.

Mrs. Burns died Wednesday at Jacksonville Medical Center.

Survivors include three children, Rev. Gene Burns, Josie Bonner and Judy Harrelson, all of Rabbittown; a sister, Sybil Bonner of Weaver; a brother, Alton Parris of Piedmont; seven grandchildren, Mark Headrick, Kent Headrick, Regina Perkins, Dawn Munroe, Bridgett Oliver, Diana Stephens and Heath Burns; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons.

Mrs. Burns, a Cleburne County native, was a member of Holly Crossroads Baptist Church. She retired from Keleggs Processing. She was preceded in death by her husband, Major Lewis Burns.

Hightower

JACKSONVILLE - Services for George B. Hightower, 71, of Jacksonville will be 2 p.m. Friday at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Anniston with Rev. Mike Owens officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Hightower died Wednesday at Regional Medical Center.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Lloyd and Jessie Hightower of Alexandria; a brother and his wife, Billy Joe and Carolyn Hightower of Gadsden; and a granddaughter, Brittany Elizabeth Hightower.

Mr. Hightower, a Cleburne County native, had lived in Calhoun County the past 44 years. A Korean Conflict Army veteran, he retired from United Defense. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters.

Kohn

OXFORD - Services for Ernest Kohn, 80, of Oxford will be Friday at Temple Beth-El Cemetery with Gray Brown-Service Mortuary of Anniston in charge.

Mr. Kohn died Wednesday in Anniston.

Norred

ROANOKE - Services for Melba Doris Dean Norred, 85, of Roanoke will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Lebanon Christian Church with Revs. Roger Jones and Hugh Vines officiating. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Friday at Quattlebaum Funeral Home.

Mrs. Norred died Wednesday at Bethany House in Opelika.

Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Norred and Pam Norred-Kidd and her husband, S.A., all of Roanoke; a sister-in-law, Maxine Dean of Whitesburg, Ga.; a brother, James Dean of Whitesburg; and two grandchildren, Stephanie Weaver and Amy Weaver.

Pallbearers will be Barrett Shelnutt, Mike Strain, Ted Strain, Frank Royston, Hal Dean and Greg Norred.

Mrs. Norred, a Randolph County native, was a member of Lebanon Christian Church. She was a chiropractic assistant to her husband and secretary/treasurer at Lebanon Christian Church for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Blake Norred.

Flowers will be accepted, or contributions may be made to Bethany House c/o East Alabama Medical Center, 2000 Pepperell Parkway, Opelika, AL 36802, or to Lebanon Christian Church c/o Wayne Cato.

Perry

HEFLIN - Services for Truman Burch Perry, 22 months, of Heflin will be 9 a.m. Friday at Heflin First United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 6-7 tonight at Dryden Funeral Home. Complete arrangements will be announced later by Dryden.

The child died Tuesday in Cleburne County.

Putman

WEDOWEE - Services for Minnie Lee Putman, 59, of Wedowee will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Heaven Bound Church of God with Revs. Freddie Whitley and Louis Cushings officiating. Burial will be in Valley Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery with Benefield Funeral Home in charge. The family will receive friends at Mrs. Putman’s house today, Friday and until 10 a.m. Saturday.

Mrs. Putman died Tuesday at Randolph Medical Center.

Survivors include two sisters, Kathy Cotton and Lula Pitts of Wedowee; a granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Terry Walker, Doug Sheppard, Rance Meadows, Benny Sheppard, Chester Huckabee, Arvel Sheppard and Junior Walker.

Mrs. Putman was a member of Zion Church of God and of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis W. Putman Jr.; a brother, Calvin Cobb Jr.; a sister, Leatha Ann Walker; and a son, Hershel Lee Mears Jr.

Thaxton

Services for William Riley Thaxton, 77, of Anniston will be noon Friday at Anniston Memorial Funeral Home with Revs. Mike Owens and Buddy Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Mr. Thaxton died Tuesday at his home.

Survivors include his wife, Joanna Thaxton; a daughter and her husband, Joni Thaxton and Forney Russ of Eastaboga; two sons, William Stone "Bill" Thaxton of Oxford and Tim Thaxton and his wife, Kathey, of Saks; and six grandchildren, Colby Russ, Kathryn Russ, Jordan Thaxton, Jennifer Thaxton, Jessica Thaxton and Alison Thaxton.

Mr. Thaxton was a member of Leatherwood Baptist Church. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot. He volunteered for many years with Meals on Wheels and the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Leatherwood Baptist Church Building Fund, or to New Beacon Hospice.
