OPAL AKERS BLOCKER

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Opal Akers Blocker, 81, will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel with Dr. Albert Pike officiating. Burial will be in Stewartville Church of God.

Mrs. Blocker died Feb. 6 at Russell Medical Center.

She is survived by son, Jay W. Blocker of Sylacauga; daughter, Teresa B. Pike and husband Dr. Albert Pike of Alexander City; sister, Ineze Vick of Meridian, Miss.; sister-in-law, Gladys Akers of Sylacauga; grandsons, Jeff Blocker, Bryan Blocker, Adam Blocker, Allen Pike and Andy Pike; and great-granddaughters, Alana Blocker, Amber Blocker, Heather Blocker, Jordan Blocker and Morgan Blocker.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Allen Pike, Andy Pike, Asa Farr, Dennis Farr, Mark Blocker and Bryan Blocker.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

LEDELL GRUBBS

GOODWATER — Ledell Grubbs died Feb. 6 at Russell Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Armour Memorial Funeral Home.

HARVEY HARRY

TALLADEGA — Harvey Harry, 83, known as “The Hubcap King,” died Feb. 6 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Midway Memory Gardens.

RUTH JOHNSON

COLUMBIANA — Ruth Johnson, 87, of #1 Mountain Apartments, died Feb. 7 at Talladega Healthcare Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

DELLA MAE TANNER

BIRMINGHAM — Graveside service for Della Mae Tanner, 94, formerly of Talladega, will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega.

Mrs. Tanner died Feb. 6 at Lakeview Nursing Home in Birmingham. She was a native of Talladega County, where she lived for many years. She was of the Baptist faith and retired from the Cotton Exchange in Memphis, Tenn. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Julia Collins; three brothers, the Rev. Preston Collins, Horace Collins and Billy Collins; and two sisters, Margaret Elliott and Jullette Shaddix.

She is survived by one brother, Joseph Collins and wife Arlene of Alpine; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

DESTA ADELLE GILLILAND WARD

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral service for Desta Adelle Gilliland Ward, 90, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Eddie Forbus officiating. Burial will be in Grimes Chapel Cemetery.

Mrs. Ward died Feb. 7. She was a long-standing member of Grimes Chapel Church and retired from the central winding room of Avondale Mills. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron A. Ward; daughter, Dorothy J. Honeycutt; and infant son, George Everett Ward.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Roper of Childersburg; one brother, Clyde Stewart of Symrna, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Charles Honeycutt, Bobby Saffold, Billy Saffold, Bloise Saffold, Barry Saffold and Jason Jacks.

In lieu of flowers, contributions cam be made to Grimes Chapel Church of Faith Hospice.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home will direct the service.

OTIS KELLEY

VINCENT — Funeral service for Otis Kelley, 84, of 170 Peterson Lane, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Coosa Valley Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. W.J. Posey officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mr. Kelley died Feb. 8 at his residence. He served in World War II and was a member of Coosa Valley Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by daughter, Lonzetta Poindexter of Youngstown, Ohio; sisters, Mary Oliver, Lillie Everage and Gloria Peterson of Vincent; and Ludie Cunningham of Leeds; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Nieces will serve as flowerbearers.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from noon until 9 p.m.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

ALICE FAYE BARBER

RAGLAND — Funeral service for Alice Faye Barber, 69, will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Ragland with the Rev. Edwin Talley, the Rev. Doug Ford and the Rev. Tony Layton. Burial will be in Providence Cemetery in Ragland.

Mrs. Barber died Feb. 7. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Will Barber; brothers, R.P. St. John and Gary St. John; sisters, Nancy Barnard and Gay McCarthy; and her parents, LeRoy and Paulette St. John. She was a lifelong resident of Ragland, graduated from Ragland High School and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ragland. She was owner and operator of Ragland Florist since 1962.

She is survived by daughter, Wanda Jill Barber; brother, Ted St. John; sisters-in-law, Ruth Thompson and Mary Jo Barber; and grandchildren, Amee Gardner, Brennen Davis and Rachel Davis.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City will direct the service.

DON M. BASS

CROPWELL — Funeral service for Don M. Bass, 78, was Friday at 2 p.m. at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel. Burial was in Bivens Cemetery.

Mr. Bass died Feb. 3. He was retired from Dupont Company after 35 years of service, was active in the Rotary Club and many other civic organizations and was a 1950 graduate of Auburn University.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Hickson Bass; brother, Joe M. Anderson; sister, Ann A. Parsons; and his devoted pet, Brandy.

Donations may be made to the St. Clair County Animal Shelter.

Ridout's Gardendale Chapel directed the service.

MARY McDANIEL BERRY

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Mary McDaniel Berry, 65, will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Berry died Feb. 8 at her residence.

She is survived by daughter, Georgia Martin of Sylacauga; sons, Jessie McDaniel and Bill McDaniel of Sylacauga; daughters, Gerald Ann McDaniel of Sylacauga, Janie Marie McDaniel and Tammy McDaniel; stepson, Ricky Hazel of Sylacauga; brothers, Virgil Hill of Alexander City, Frank Hill of Talladega, Jack Hill of Sycamore, John Henry Hill of Sycamore and Lester Hill of Tuscaloosa; and sisters, Mamie Jacks and Mary Ann Hill of Sylacauga.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

WILLIAM O'NEAL BURK

TALLADEGA — Graveside service for William O'Neal Burk, 73, will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Pine Hill Mausoleum with the Rev. Ricky Ruston officiating.

Mr. Burk died Feb. 8 at HealthSouth Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega County and was a Methodist by faith. He was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion, worked for Barber Sales for 25 years before retiring and owned and operated Handy Corner U.S.A.

He is survived by his wife, Betty H. Burk of Talladega; daughter, Janet B. Hill of Talladega; son, Jack O. Burk of Talladega; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers, Chester Burk and Lester Burk of Talladega.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Shiloh United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Burk, Mike Burk, Tori Burk, Timmy Burk, David Gaither, George Mize, Ross Goolsby, John Robertson and Charles Henderson.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.
