In 1931 her family moved to Pell City where she attended high school and lived most of her adult life. She, with her family, attended Arbor Baptist Church and later became a longtime member of Pell City First Baptist Church. On Oct. 31, 1936, at age 18, she married Ruble Edward Bowlin, the great love of her life. That love affair extended almost 69 years. Her other interests included antiques, flower growing and arranging, sewing and homemaking. At various times she utilized these interests through employment outside the home.

To this day, her family remains stunned by the tragic passing of daughter Janice Ann (Jan) at age 22 after attending Auburn University and marrying Dr. Philip Alverson.
