MARY JOHN JENKINS TURNER

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mary John Jenkins Turner, 70, of 123 Community Road, will be Thursday, July 29, at 2:30 p.m. at Union Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Samuel Turner officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Turner died July 24 at God's Care House in Lincoln. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Munford and later attended the Union Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She was employed for more than 45 years for Mr. Roy Robinson and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Lee Turner; her parents, Squire and Georgia P. Jenkins; a sister, Doris Jenkins Wilkins; and a brother, Roma Gene Jenkins.

She is survived by daughters, Peggy T. Meadows, Veronica T. Tuck and Brenda T. Evans, all of Talladega; brother, George Jenkins of Midway; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; special daughter and caregiver, Diane Collins of Lincoln; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

REBECCA BRANCH

CRAGFORD — Funeral service for Rebecca Branch, 64, will be Wednesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Mellow Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Tommy Young, the Rev. Jerry Wheeles and the Rev. Jerry Patterson officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Branch died July 26 at her residence. She was a native of Randolph County, was a former resident of Alexander City and had lived most of her life in Clay County. She had been employed with the Alexander City Outlook in the advertising department and as a credit manager with the Credit Bureau in Alexander City. She was a graduate of Wadley High School and was a member of Mellow Valley Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne Branch of Cragford; daughters, Jill Roberson of Lineville and Wynema Gilbert of Ashland; son, Dennis Branch of Savannah, Ga.; sister, Mary Jim Garrett of Wadley; and six grandchildren.

Deacons of Mellow Valley Baptist Church, Brad Gilbert and Payton Gilbert will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Branch, Trevor Trammell and Blain Gilbert.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home until one hour before the service.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

MINNA LOUISE SYDOW CURRIE

MONTGOMERY — Memorial/resurrection service for Minna Louise Sydow Currie will be Saturday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Montgomery with the Rev. Patrick Smith officiating. Visitation will follow.

Mrs. Currie died June 26, 2004, in Midland, Texas. She was born May 2, 1920, in Framingham, Mass., to Hugo and Minna Sydow, who preceded her in death. Educated in Framingham and at Simmons College in Boston, she was a registered nurse. Serving in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II, with her unit following the D-Day Invasion into Normandy, Belgium, and Germany, she attained the rank of 1st Lt. and was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Bronze Star.

After her marriage in May 1947, she moved to the South. She resumed her nursing career in the 1960s at Professional Center Hospital in Montgomery and retired from John Knox Manor Nursing Home in 1983. She never retired from helping others and even in her last days at Rockwood Manor Nursing Home in Midland, spent time at the nurses' station "helping" them with their paperwork. She modeled thrift, hard work and loyalty, but most of all a steadfast faith in the Lord through good and hard times. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roswell Ernest Currie; and a brother, Dr. Paul F. Sydow.

She is survived by daughter, Martha Ellen (Muff) Fregia of Midland; son, Dr. David Paul Currie and wife Molly of Sylacauga; grandsons, James A. Fregia II and wife Merle of Los Angeles, Calif., Capt. Justin A. Fregia of Colorado Springs, Colo., PV2 Joel A. Fregia of Monterey, Calif., D. Paul Currie Jr. and wife Jacqueline and Phillip A. Currie; great-granddaughter, Sarah Margaret Currie, all of Birmingham; brothers, Carl A. Sydow of Framingham and George R. Sydow and wife Barbara of Vero Beach, Fla.; sisters-in-law, Shirley Sydow of Alton Bay, N.H., and Eunice Nelson of Montana; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Memorial Church or to the Presbyterian Home for Children, P.O. Drawer 577, Talladega, Ala., 35161.

Minna donated her body to Texas Tech University Medical School in Lubbock, Texas.

MATTIE GERTRUDE NELSON

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. — Funeral service for Mattie Gertrude Nelson, 90, will be Thursday, July 29, at 10 a.m. at Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with Pastor Dwight Herod officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. EST Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Nelson died July 27. A native of Sylacauga, she has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 49 years and was a member of the Collegedale Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Roy Sulser and Rufus Nelson; a brother, Otis Barnes; and her parents, Thomas J. and Ada M. Carmichael Barnes.

She is survived by daughters, Evelyn Willis of Grover, N.C., and Joyce Maxfield of Collegedale, Tenn.; sons, Jimmy Sulser of Tuscola, Ill., and Bloyce Nelson of Palm Coast, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service Thursday at the funeral home.

Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist will direct the service.

MARY NELL RADER

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Mary Nell Rader, 74, will be Thursday, July 29, at 3 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega.

Mrs. Rader died July 27 at Talladega Health Care Center. She was a native and lifelong resident of Talladega and was a member of Talladega Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by daughter, Brenda T. Martin and husband Douglas of Talladega; sons, Frankie Tinney of Talladega and Bob Tinney and wife Janice of Riverside; brother, Euell Bud Harvell and wife Judy of Talladega; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

ERNESTINE SHELTON

PELL CITY — Ernestine Shelton died July 27 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Armour's Funeral Home.

ROBERT LOUIS EDMONDSON JR.

MILLERVILLE — Memorial service for Robert Louis Edmondson Jr., 45, will be Thursday, July 29, at 5 p.m. at Clay County Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Thornburg officiating.

Mr. Edmondson died July 26 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County and was employed as a cabinet maker at Tru-Wood Cabinets Inc. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Louis Edmondson and Annette Guthrie Edmondson.

He is survived by daughter, Tina E. Otralek of Kellyton; and son, Robert Charles Edmondson of Auburn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Clay County Sheriff's Auxiliary or the church or charity of your choice.

Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

JAMES LAUDERDALE

SYLACAUGA — James Lauderdale, 82, of 895 Odena Road South, died July 28 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

SYLACAUGA — Charles W. Liner Sr., 68, died July 28 at Coosa Valley BMC.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

JAMES Washington POWELL

SYLACAUGA — Graveside service for James Washington Powell, 83, will be Friday, July 30, at 10:30 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Malon Felkins and the Rev. Eddie Bolen officiating.

Mr. Powell died July 28 at University Hospital. He was a lifetime member of Mignon United Methodist Church and retired from Avondale Mills with many years of service. He served in the Navy during World War II and was preceded in death by daughter, Jamie Nell Powell; mother, Sammie Nell Powell; father, James Monroe Powell; and brother, Douglas Lamar Powell. He was past director of Avondale Mills Credit Union.

He is survived by his wife, Mozell Powell of Sylacauga; son, James W. (Jay) Powell of Birmingham; daughter, Jeanna Powell Williams of Plant City, Fla.; and brother, Huzzell Powell of Foley.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be William "Bo" Milam, Robert Parrett, John Michael Beasley, John Merrill Beasley, Robert Hale and Lee Williams.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.
