WILLARD P. BROWN

BIRMINGHAM - A Celebration of Life for Willard P. (Bill) Brown, 87, will be announced.

Mr. Brown died peacefully on Oct. 5 with his beloved wife of 32 years, Jacquelyn Carlisle Brown, at his side. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Brown. He was president of the Jim Dandy Company. He came to Birmingham from Cleveland, Ohio, where as a group vice-president of Durkee Foods, he managed six companies. He started his business career with General Foods in New York. He is known for his one-man executive recruiting and consulting services business. He recruited many senior executives for leading Alabama businesses. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Birmingham where he led “the Necktie Rebellion.” He was a former Vestryman of the Church of the Advent and a former director of City National Bank.

He was passionate about music, Bach to the Beatles. He was a highly regarded big bandleader, arranger and composer in his youth. He loved dancing and tennis.

He is survived by four children from his first marriage of 33 years to Catherine Brown: Bonnie (Tom) Giacobbe, Pete (Marie) Brown, Mike Brown and Steve (Alison) Brown; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to Mrs. Brown’s hometown church, Weogufka Second Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 179, Weogufka, Ala., 35183.

Charter Funeral Home in Alabaster is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY E. CARSON

TUSCUMBIA - Graveside service for Mary E. Carson, 91, will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery in Tuscumbia.

Ms. Carson died Oct. 5 at Tuscumbia Health Care Facility. She was a retired school teacher from the Talladega County School System She taught at Phyllis Wheatley High School in Childersburg and finished at the middle school.

She is survived by nieces, Lois Hampton of Seattle, Wash., Mary Irons, Stephanie Griffin and Lisa Griffin of Lima, Ohio, LaDonna King of Nashville, Tenn., and Ulanda Haley of Tuscumbia; nephews, Louis Smith of Tuscumbia, John Griffin Jr. of Huntsville, Alex Griffin of Leighton and Michael Griffin of Norfolk, Va.; and a host of other relatives.

Thompson and Son Funeral Home in Tuscumbia will direct the service.

DORANEZE L. GREEN

ANNISTON - Funeral service for Doraneze L. Green, 69, will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Jacky Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Tallasahatchie Cemetery in Alpine.

Mrs. Green died Oct. 6 in Anniston.

She is survived by sons, Larry Green Jr. and wife Jean of Talladega and Jody Green and wife Elaine of Sycamore; grandchildren, Shelley Green, Larry “Bo” Green, Amanda Amber Vollen, Melissa McClelland and John Green; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Larry Green, Brent Taylor, R.J. McClelland, Shawn Stephens, Casey Patterson and Mancle Morgan.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:30 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

BILLIE JEAN HEATH

CHILDERSBURG - Billie Jean Heath, 39, died Oct. 7 in Childersburg.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home.

HORACE A. HORTON

SYLACAUGA - Graveside service for Horace A. Horton, 78, will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 2 p.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Mark Deason officiating.

Mr. Horton died Oct. 7 at Coosa Valley BMC. He was preceded in death by his son, Brian K. Horton; his father, Charlie Horton; mother and stepfather, French and James Stillwell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Albert and Minnie Burks; and sister, Faye George. He served in the Navy during World War II and was retired from Kimberly Clark Corporation.

He is survived by his wife, June Horton of Sylacauga; daughter, Michele Horton of Sylacauga; granddaughter, Tiffany Strickland “Pop We Will Miss You” of Sylacauga; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends prior to service time from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

CHESTER EARL ISBELL

LEEDS - Funeral service for Chester Earl Isbell, 69, will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Church. Burial will be in Dunnavant Cemetery.

Mr. Isbell died Oct. 6.

He is survived by his wife, Margie D. Isbell; son, Lamar Isbell of Riverview, Fla.; daughter, Regina Fleming; sisters, Ophelia Isbell and Leacy Isbell; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends Friday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

JOSEPH KENNETH POWER

ALPINE - Graveside service for Joseph Kenneth Power, 84, will be Friday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. in Purcell-Parker Cemetery in Fayetteville with the Rev. Bob Blackwell officiating.

Mr. Power died Oct. 6 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair in Birmingham. He was a native of Talladega County. He was a veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a pilot for Pan-American Airlines and served 20 years for the Federal Aviation Administration as an engineer and safety officer for Talladega Municipal Airport. He was a member of St. Peters Episcopal Church and was a member of the District of Columbia Board of Professional Engineers. He was a member of the National Academy of Science and was a graduate of the University of Oregon.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Power of Alpine; sons, Joe Power and wife Pam of Annadale, Va., and Craig Power and wife Tammy of Munford; and granddaughters, Sara Power and Emily Power.

The family will receive friends after the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peters Episcopal Church.

Honorary pallbearers will be members and former members of the Talladega Municipal Airport Board.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

F.L. SANDERS

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for F.L. Sanders, 80, of 112 Christian Circle, will be Saturday, Oct. 9, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby J. Welch officiating. Burial will be in Lane Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Sanders died Oct. 1 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Christian Sanders; his parents, Efful Sanders and Tinnie Cook Sanders; a sister, Ruth Dennis; four brothers, Aaron Sanders, Samuel Sanders, Joseph Sanders and John Amos Sanders. He was a lifelong member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He graduated from Westside High School in Talladega and was drafted into the U.S. Army on Oct. 23, 1943. While in the service, he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the American Service Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal with one Bronze Star and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 23, 1946. He was formerly employed at Anniston Army Depot and retired from Talladega Pipe Company.

He is survived by son, Archer Chatman of Talladega; sisters, Remie N. Christian of Buffalo, N.Y., and Viree Curry of Chicago, Ill.; brothers, Solomon Sanders of Chicago, Ill., and Mark Sanders of Irvington, N.J.; and five grandchildren.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Nephews and family friends will serve as pallbearers.

Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.
