ERMA RUTH COTTON

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Erma Ruth (Jo) Cotton, 70, will be Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Eddie Bolin officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Cotton died Oct. 24 at her residence. She was preceded in death by her mother, Maggie DeMedicis; and her father, George DeMedicis. She was a member of Mignon United Methodist Church and was retired from B.B. Comer High School.

She is survived by her husband, Walter D. Cotton of Sylacauga; sister, Betty Milam and husband William (Bo) of Sylacauga; niece, Rhonda Bentley and husband Michael of Montgomery; and great-nieces, Kristin and Ashley Bentley of Montgomery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 9 until 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Pete Sumners, Larry Sumners, Dane Sumners, Gabe Sumners, Hank Bullard, Bob Mallory and Bart Hickey.

The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Mignon United Methodist Church.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

HOWARD CAMP FOSHEE SR.

MUNFORD - Funeral service for Howard Camp Foshee Sr., 88, will be Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 2 p.m. at Munford Church of Christ with Jeff Clark officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Mr. Foshee died Oct. 24 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Munford and was a member of Munford Church of Christ. He retired from Ft. McClellan as Post Engineer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Pearl Foshee; and grandson, Donnie Linn Foshee.

He is survived by daughters, Rosemary Rollins and husband Charles and Evelyn Watts and husband James, all of Munford; son, Howard Foshee Jr. and wife Missy of Pell City; sister, Johnie Mintz of Munford; brother, Beryl Foshee of Gadsden; grandchildren, Benjie Rollins, Curtis Watts, Renee Stone, Julie Foshee, Lisa Irvin, Tammy McBurnett, Rodney Watts and Christy Garmon; and great-grandchildren, Blake Rollins, Matacha Farler, Lyndsey Rollins, Trey Rollins, Dawson Irvin, Hannah McBurnett, Ethan McBurnett, Emily McBurnett, Victoria Stone, Tyler Watts and Caleb Watts; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Flowers will be accepted for donations may be made to Hospice Comfort Care in Talladega.

Pallbearers will be Benjamin Rollins Jr., Curtis Watts, Rodney Watts, David Irwin, Brad Stone and Barry McBurnett.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Cockrell and Ernest Lee Bittle.

Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

ANNIE LeCROY GOTHARD

ALEXANDER CITY - Graveside service for Annie LeCroy Gothard, 89, was Monday, Oct. 25, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga with the Rev. Clayton Gilbert officiating.

Mrs. Gothard died Oct. 23 at Chapman Healthcare Center. She was born on Feb. 19, 1915 in Goodwater to Seldon and Sadie Rogers LeCroy. She graduated in 1932 from Mignon High School (B.B. Comer High School) in Sylacauga. She moved with her family to Alexander City in 1953. She enjoyed being an active member of the community and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where she taught vacation bible school and Sunbeams. She enjoyed gardening and participating in the Evergreen Garden Club and served as president. She volunteered her time to serve on many P.T.A. committees at Alexander City Elementary School. She enjoyed her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, George Allen Gothard; infant son, George Allen Gothard Jr.; brothers, Dr. Helfin LeCroy, Bertram LeCroy and Douglas LeCroy; sister, Mary Alice LeCroy Lybrand; and other family members.

She is survived by daughter, Anita Gothard Dark of Alexander City; two grandsons; several grandchildren by marriage; sister, Edith LeCroy Williams of Sylacauga; and other relatives.

Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City directed the service.

EARL Henderson GUINN

SOUTHSIDE - Funeral service for Earl Henderson Guinn, 77, was Sunday, Oct. 24, at 1:30 p.m. at Rudder Funeral Home chapel in Stevenson with the Rev. Brian Guinn officiating. Burial was in Stevenson City Cemetery.

Mr. Guinn died Oct. 22 at the Village at Cook Springs in Cook Springs. He was a TVA dispatcher, having retired from Wheeler Dam. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy, a member of the Bolivar Masonic Lodge No. 127, was on the Southside Beautification Board and was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in Gadsden. He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Perkins Guinn; and parents, Henry and Cordia Burton Guinn.

He is survived by daughter, Sheila Guinn Anderson of Talladega and husband James Anderson; son, Mike Guinn of Trussville and wife Judy Guinn; and grandchildren, Lori Anderson of Talladega, Blake Anderson of Boise, Idaho, Dana Pittman of Panama City, Fla., and Wes Guinn of Trussville.

Rudder Funeral Home directed the service.

M.J. KNIGHT

ALEXANDER CITY - Funeral service for M.J. Knight, 74, will be Wednesday, Oct. 27, at 1 p.m. at Wright’s Funeral Home chapel with Elder Edna R. Flowers officiating. Burial will be in the City of Alexander City Cemetery.

Mr. Knight died Oct. 22.

He is survived by his wife, Mary J. Knight of Alexander City; daughters, Mary Hayes of Chattanooga, Tenn., Linda Hudson of Hueytown, Barbara Knight of Goodwater, Catherine Mathews of Alexander City and Rosie Walker of Charlotte, N.C.; stepdaughter, Brenda Moon of Alexander City; stepsons, Sam Millner of Alexander City and Roger Millner of Ozark; sisters, Lee Annie Edwards, Frances Calhoun, Kathryne Knight, Frankie Knight, Sarah Burns, Dorothy Knight and Billie Davis of Alexander City and Claudine Jones of Hissop; brothers, Elzie Knight of Troy and James Knight and Carey Knight of Alexander City; 29 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Wright’s Funeral Home will direct the service.

LYNN LATIMER

CANTON, Ga. - Memorial service for Lynn "Ralph" Latimer will be Friday, Oct. 29, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Todd Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Latimer died Oct. 15 in Canton. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Sylacauga, worked for Avondale Mills and lived in the Sylacauga area for some 30 years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club.

He is survived by daughters, Lynn L. Veal of Canton and Celia Latimer of Birmingham; grandchildren, Todd Veal, Lynn Walker and Jamie Bratton; great-grandchild, Michael Moyer; and sisters, Pauline Holstun of Rome, Ga., and Ann White of Arizona.

The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

WILLARD T. MASSEY

ALEXANDER CITY - Funeral service for Willard T. Massey, 87, will be Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home in Alexander City with the Rev. Bobby Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Hillview Cemetery.

Mr. Massey died Oct. 24 at his residence. He was born in Belgreen on April 14, 1917 to Benjamin J. Massey and Loula Elliott.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Hazel Massey; daughters, Sara Duerr and Peggy Lewis; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Heritage Chapel Funeral Home will direct the service.

ESSIE MAE MATTHEWS

WATTSVILLE - Essie Mae Matthews, 88, of 1325 Wattsville Drive, died Oct. 24 at her residence.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

TALLADEGA - Jimmy McClendon, 62, of 118 Lane St., died Oct. 25 at Brookwood Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.

LAVADA HOLMES McCLURE

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Lavada Holmes McClure will be Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Keith Pugh and Dr. Bill Dean officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. McClure died Oct. 24 at Brookwood Medical Center at the age of 84. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hyman McClure. She was born in Talladega County and lived in Sylacauga most of her life. She married Joseph Hyman McClure of Sylacauga in 1942. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church of Sylacauga and a retiree of City National Bank.

She is survived by her beloved children, two sons, Joseph Hyman (Joey) McClure Jr. and Dannie Brent McClure; daughter-in-law, Mara Kay Pardue McClure; grandsons, Joseph Hyman (Trey) McClure III, William Camden McClure, all of Birmingham; a dear sister, Mrs. Elma Holmes Williamson of Demopolis.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

SYLACAUGA - Memphis McDaniel, 75, died Oct. 25 at University Hospital.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

MORTON, MARY ELLEN DRUMMOND SMITH

(April 20, 1927-October 23, 2004) a child of God, baptized in the Church of God and twice in the Jordan River of Israel where Jesus was baptized by John The Baptist. A direct descendant of Anna Bella Drummond, Queen of Scotland, Mary retired after 25 years with Lucks Markets in Los Angeles, CA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 27, at 2 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Trussville Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens East, Rev. David Bryant officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. in the Chapel. Preceded in death by son, Carneath Ray Smith, March 7, 1950; father, James Perry Drummond; mother, Maudie Barnnett Drummond Raynor; brother, James Perry Drummond II; sisters, Rosa Nell Drummond Schmidth, Jimmie Annett Raynor, McCurry, Sparks.

Survivors: sisters, Barbara Lee Raynor, Hooper, George, Sharon Rose Raynor, Byers, Vandergrift; brother, Johnny Daniel (Bonnie) Raynor; by husband of 49 years, William H. Morton; three stepchildren, Ginger Carroll Morton (Standley) Vincent, Steven Howard (Cynthia) Morton, Crystal Gail Morton (Richard) Andrew; nine stepgrandchildren, fourteen stepgreat-grandchildren, who said they were blessed to have two mothers; and many loving nieces and nephews.
