LAVERAL ABBOTT MARLER

TALLADEGA - Funeral service for Laveral Abbott Marler, 78, will be Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Usrey Funeral Home chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Neal Hodo officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Marler died Dec. 2 at Citizens BMC. She was a native of Harperville and lived most of her life in Talladega. She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church and retired from Palm Beach after 38 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Marler.

She is survived by sons, Phillip Marler of Talladega, Joel Marler of Oxford and Robert Marler of Montgomery; sisters, Eunice Rheems of Conyers, Ga., and Geraldine Foster of Harpersville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Diabetes. Foundation.

Pallbearers will be Eddie Holmes, Jerry Gurley, John Lewis, Kerry Abbott and Terry Abbott.

Honorary pallbearers will be Windell McMichen, J.T. Rose, Floyd Smelley and Ronald Abbott.

Usrey Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

AMOS ALTON NELSON

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Amos Alton Nelson, 77, will be Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church with the Rev. Ronnie Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Nelson died Dec. 3 at Coosa Valley BMC. He was a charter member of Eastside Baptist Church and was a board member of the church.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Nelson of Sylacauga; sons, Bill Nelson and Perry Nelson of Sylacauga; brother, Donald Nelson of Clanton; sisters, Betty Sue Gray of Montgomery, Dorothy Howell of South Port, Fla., and Trudy Dykes of Cincinnati, Ohio; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Michael Nelson, Kevin Nelson, Michael Mask, David Vickers, Adam Castleberry, Jerry Bryant, David Bearden and Barry Armstrong.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Brotherhood of Eastside Baptist Church and all nephews.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

MARY JO RATLIFF

CROPWELL - Graveside service for Mary Jo Ratliff, 77, will be Sunday, Dec. 5, at 3 p.m. in Forest Crest Cemetery.

Mrs. Ratliff died Dec. 3.

She is survived by brother, Porter D. Bailey of Pell City; sisters, Jacqueline B. Lee of Cropwell and Guila Siddall of Pell City; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

SANDRA KATHLEEN CRAIG

SYLACAUGA - Memorial service for Sandra Kathleen Craig, 42, will be Saturday, Dec. 11, at 3:30 p.m. at the Sanctuary of Pilgrim Congregational Church, 3801 Montclair Road, Birmingham.

Ms. Craig died Nov. 26 in Sylacauga. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas. She lived in Birmingham until moving back to Sylacauga recently. She was employed in medical administration and was active in local theater.

She is survived by her fiancé, Steve Butler of Wetumpka; daughter, Jennifer Gibson of Homewood; brother, William A. Craig Jr. and sisters, Suzanne Williams and Toni Nelson.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga is in charge of the arrangements.

MILDRED ALLEN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Mildred Allen, 85, will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Sylacauga with the Rev. Keith Pugh officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper.

Mrs. Allen died Dec. 3 at her home. A native of Walker County, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Sylacauga. She was preceded in death by her husband, James N. Allen.

She is survived by her daughter, Cindy Allen Belcher and husband Jerry of Birmingham; one son, George Parker Allen and wife Karen of Birmingham; and one brother, Charles A. Waldrop and wife Mary of Destin, Fla.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home of Sylacauga will direct the service.

MARY DOT BIRCHFIELD

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Mary Dot Birchfield, 70, of Talladega, was Saturday, Dec. 4, at Springhill Baptist Church with the Rev. Raymond Long and the Rev. David Lipscomb officiating. Burial was in the adjoining cemetery.

Mrs. Birchfield died Dec. 2 at Clay County Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Springhill Baptist Church, where she served as song leader, secretary and treasurer for many years.

She is survived by her husband, John Ray Birchfield of Talladega; one son, Hal Ryan Birchfield of Jacksonville; one brother, John Dalton Morgan of Talladega; and two grandchildren.

Pallbearers were be Terry Maples, Fred Craft, Charles Stewart, Bruce Horn, Larry Williams and Harvey Craft.

Benefield Funeral Home of Ashland directed the service.

DARYL CHATMAN

ATLANTA — Funeral service for Daryl Chatman will be Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. at Woods Memorial Baptist Church in College Park, Ga. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Mr. Chatman is the son of Pat Chatman of Atlanta, and the grandson of Annie Ray Chatman. He is the great-grandson of the late William "Bo" and Elizabeth Garrett and Samuel and May Lou Chatman.

The family will receive friends Monday at Murray Brothers Funeral Home, Cascade Spring Chapel in Atlanta.

Murray Brothers Funeral Home will direct the service.

U.C. GIBSON

ASHLAND — Funeral service for U.C. "Buster" Gibson, 76, will be Sunday, Dec. 5, at 2 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Cleve Moore and the Rev. Mark Kytan officiating. Burial will be in Clay County Memory Gardens.

Mr. Gibson died Dec. 3 at Clay County Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Clay County, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He retired from the Anniston Army Depot after 24 years of service, and was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clyde Gibson, and a granddaughter, Kayla Willis.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne Denney Gibson of Ashland; three daughters, Sandra Edmondson of Lineville, Brenda Kytan of Mellow Valley and Debra Lambert of Goodwater; one son, Chris Gibson of Lineville; one brother, Elwyn Gibson of Cragford; and seven grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Robert Nolen, Chris Hayes, Nathan Kytan, Wesley Edmondson, Alan Denney and Donald Gibson.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

MARJORIE ELEANOR JEFFORDS

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Marjorie Eleanor Jeffords, 94, will be Monday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Mark Paris officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mrs. Jeffords is survived by one son, William J. Jeffords Sr. and wife Beth; two daughters, Eleanor Jeffords and Mary Lou Johnson and husband Rick; six grandchildren, Cindy Gumm, Sherry Brandmahl, William J. Jeffords Jr., Chris Johnston, Mike Johnston and Amy Dyer; and 10 great-grandchildren, Chelsea, Brittany, Kasey, Alex, Emily, Olivia, Trey, Connor, Cole and Christopher.

The family requests donations be made to the First United Methodist Church of Pell City.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel.

Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.

AMARION SINCERE TRUSS

TALLADEGA — Amarion Sincere Truss, infant, died Friday, Dec. 3, at Citizens Baptist Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.
