FRANCES IRENE LOCKMILLER

LIPSCOMB — Funeral service for Frances Irene Lockmiller, 67, will be Monday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel with Rev. Ronald Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Lockmiller died Dec. 10 in Lipscomb. She was a member of Coalburg Industrial Baptist Church in Fultondale. She was preceded in death by father, Earnie Hobert Jacobs; mother, Lorene D. Chandler; and sister, Mable Skeen.

She is survived by her sister, Ruth Helen Deese, of Talladega; brother, Hobert Lee Jacobs and wife Kimberly of Hueytown; step-father, Lewis B. Chandler of McCalla; five nieces, Marian Suzane Disspain, McKinzie Jacobs, Misti Jacobs, Sharon Vernon, and Karen Hilyer; and four nephews, Jacob Andrew Deese, Shannon Jacobs, Micah Jacobs and Tobin Brewer.

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Dec. 12 from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

RUTH ELNORA DEES SHELBORNE

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Ruth Elnora Dees Shelton, 88, will be Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 1 p.m. at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Clarence Dortch II officiating. Burial will be in Talladega Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Shelborne died Dec. 8 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center. She attended school in the Wilcox County Public School System and joined the Tates Chapel and Star of Zion AME Zion Memberships. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander Shelborne Sr.; four sons, Alvin T. Shelborne, Martin J. Shelborne, Warren H. Shelborne and Mark E. Shelborne; and her parents, Robert and Allena Spencer Dees.

She is survived by her daughters, Annie S. Williams of Talladega, Rosa M. Shelborne of Suwannee, Ga., Alleyne S. Malone and Charity V. Russell, both of College Park, Ga., Kathryne E. Shelborne of Reston, Va., and Gloria D. Shelborne of Talladega; sons, Alexander Shelborne Jr. of Talladega and Patrick L. Shelborne of Fayetteville N.C.; sisters, Georgia M. Cleveland of Mobile, and Freddie D. Charley of Coy; brothers, Frederick Dees and Martin J. Dees, both of New Orleans, La.; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Curtis Patterson, Curtis Brown, John Patterson and Bobby Jenkins Jr.

Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary will direct the service.

THOMAS BORDEN

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Thomas "Bolo" Borden, 78, will be Monday, Dec. 13, at 1 p.m. at Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Union Springs Cemetery.

Mr. Borden died Dec. 7 at Citizens Baptist Medical Center. He was employed by S & R Lumber Company for more than 30 years and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Stockdale. He was preceded in death by his father, Ollie Taylor; and his mother, Lou Ida Borden.

He is survived by his sister, Ethel Borden Terrell of Talladega; three nieces, Aline Garrett, Sandra Scott and Iesha Scott, all of Talladega; and a nephew, Wilbert Terrell of Talladega.

Pallbearers will be Patrick D, Garrett, Lionel Q. Garrett, Bitrell Scott, Billy R. Scott and Patrick Garrett.

ROBERT HORACE LINDLEY

NASHVILLE — Funeral service for Robert Horace Lindley, 84, will be Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2:30 p.m., at Barfield Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Stevens and Rev. Wayne Adams officiating. Graveside services will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

Mr. Lindley died Dec. 10 at his residence. He was born in Etowah County, and was a former resident of the Barfield Community for more than 22 years before moving to Nashville, Tenn., two years ago. He had worked as a typewriter mechanic with Alabama Typewriter for more than 25 years, and was a member of the Lineville Masonic Lodge 219 F. & A.M. and the Barfield Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Clements Lindley of Nashville, Tenn.; two daughters, Carolyn L. Walker of Crestwood, Ky., and Barbara L. Hinson, of Nashville, Tenn.; one son, Eldridge Lynn Lindley of Shannon; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family received friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville Dec. 11 from 5:30 until 9 p.m. and until one hour prior to the service on Sunday. He will lie in state at the church for one hour.

Benefield Funeral Home of Lineville is in charge of the arrangements.

JAMES ELWYN MARTIN

MILLERVILLE — Funeral service for James Elwyn Martin, 74, will be Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at Millerville Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Dyess and Rev. Jim Arnall officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites.

Mr. Martin died Dec. 10 at his residence. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clay County. He was a graduate of Bibb Graves High School, prior to his retirement he had been a dairy farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran and attended Millerville Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Graves Martin and Vera Heard Martin; sister, Paula Dick; and brothers, John D. Martin and Tommy Martin.

He is survived by his wife, LaJean Patterson Martin of Millerville; two daughters, LaResa Griffin and son-in-law Ryan Griffin of Alexander City, and LeaAnn Stewart of Millerville; one son, Dwayne Martin and daughter-in-law Delilah Martin of Millerville; and four grandchildren, Kristi Stewart, LaCresha Griffin, Amanda Martin and Brandy Martin.

Pallbearers will be Terry Martin, Jerry Martin, Glenn Martin, Robert Dick, Charles Dick, Lecroy Teel, Donald Bowen and Lowell Bowen.

The family received friends Dec. 11 from 5:30 until 8 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service time.

Clay County Funeral Home will direct the service.

NORMA MAE SPRADLIN

PELL CITY — Funeral service for Norma Mae Spradlin, 87, will be Monday, Dec. 13, at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home with the Rev. John C. Spain officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Memorial Gardens.

Ms. Spradlin died Dec. 10 in Pell City.

She is survived by her four daughters, Joyce Leslie (Ray), Judy Stiles, Lettie Louise Allen (Jimmy) and Norma Jean Brown; son, Robert Spradlin (Betty); eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Dec. 12 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Kilgroe Funeral Home of Pell City will direct the service.

JAMES Jackson WILSON

FAYETTEVILLE — Funeral service for James Jackson Wilson, 83, will be Sunday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Bill Guafney and David Schafer officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mr. Wilson died Dec. 10 at his residence. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 929 and Woodman of the World. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Era Wilson of Fayetteville; son, Charles Wilson and wife Carol of Leesburg, Va.; daughter, Myrtis Hurst and husband Eugene of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Beth Bagley and husband Jason, Lori Sills and husband Kirk, Joni Marie Wilson and James Hurst and wife Angela; and two great-grandchildren, Heather Hurst and Blake Bagley.

Pallbearers will be James Hurst, Terry Wilson, David Wilson, Danny Wilson, Kirk Sills and Jason Bagley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Bone, James Wilson, Ronnie Wilson, Edwin Bone and Bill Hurt.

Family will accept flowers or donations to New Beacon Hospice or Care House in Sylacauga.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the services.

TALLADEGA — Booker T. Adams Jr., 61, of 123 Baker St., died Dec. 23 at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

ETHEL P. BRASHER

LEEDS — Funeral service for Ethel P. Brasher, 84, will be Friday, Dec. 24, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Vandiver. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Brasher died Dec. 22. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman W. Brasher; and her daughter, Jeanette Bowman.

She is survived by son, Herman Brasher; daughter, Jeanelle Bowman; brother, Sidney Partridge; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

ALBERTA BROWN

ALEXANDER CITY — Graveside service for Alberta Brown, 86, will be Sunday, Dec. 26, at 1 p.m. in Midway Memory Gardens with the Rev. Mike Cooper officiating.

Miss Brown died Dec. 22 at her residence.

She is survived by cousins, Darlene Frichter and Connie Simpson of Alexander City; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Terry Simpson, Wesley Simpson, Tony Harvell, David Frichter, Tim Cooper and John Cooper.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 11 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.

ZEBEDEE CHRISTIAN SR.

ANDERSON, Ind. — Funeral service for Zebedee Christian Sr., 90, will be Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. at Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service in Anderson, Ind., with the Rev. William O’Neil officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson.

Mr. Christian died Dec. 22 at St. John’s Hospital. He was born June 7, 1914 in Talladega and lived in Anderson from 1942 to 1979, after which he and his wife retired and moved to Talladega, returning to Anderson in 1995. Prior to retiring, he and his wife owned and operated Christian’s Floor Covering Service for approximately 25 years. He was involved locally in many civic affairs, including serving as president of the board of directors for the Urban League from 1967 to 1968. He also served eight years on the board. He was asked by then Mayor Flanagan, to serve on the Anderson Community School Board from 1968 to 1974. During his tenure with ACS, he established many lifelong friendships and helped to establish some academic equality in the Anderson School System.

He was an avid golfer, having played golf since he was a young boy in the South. He started his golf career be being a caddy, and his love of golf grew to include many awards, trophies and tournaments. His most coveted award was winning the Anderson City Golf Tournament in 1976. In 1977, the Urban League of Madison County established the First Annual Zeb Christian Golf Classic that was held at Yule Golf Club, Alexandria, Ind. Over the years, he developed many golf friendships both locally and throughout the country, as he continued to play until the age of 88.

He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church and had served many positions within the church in prior years.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Annie Bell (Huston) Christian, in April of this year; his parents, Taylor and Charlotte Christian; two brothers, James and Harold; four sisters, Ella Marshall, Iola Mitchell, Lucille Brewer and Frances Good.

He is survived by daughters, Mary C. Hall of Anderson and Clarice Blaylock of Fishers; son, Zebedee Jr. (Georgia) Christian of Talladega; sister, Willia Cole of Dayton, Ohio; grandchildren, Warren Hall, Donna Johnson, Diane (John) Turner, Lisa (Glen) Hall, Eric Blaylock, Brian Christian, Kent Christian, Leslie Christian, Isom Winegood, Precious Winegood and Angel (Jeffrey) Batts; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Rozelle Johnson Funeral Service will direct the service.
