VADA M. HOLLIS

HOLLY POND — Funeral service for Vada M. Hollis, 79, formerly of Leeds, will be Thursday, Feb. 17, at 3 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Leeds. Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Leeds.

Mrs. Hollis died Feb. 14.

She is survived by sons, Stephen D. Hollis; and daughter, Carol Diane Plowman.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds will direct the service.

JOSEPHINE McKENZIE

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Funeral service for Josephine McKenzie, 96, formerly of Talladega, will be Thursday, Feb. 17, at Lily Hill Baptist Church with Pastor David Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens.

Mrs. McKenzie died Feb. 10 at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh.

She is survived by daughter, Nellie Pickens of Pittsburgh; son, L.C. "Shorty" McKenzie of Talladega; sister, Eula Mae McKenzie of Talladega; 19 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; 44 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

CARY PAUL OWENS

HOLLINS — Funeral service for Cary Paul Owens, 65, will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. at Hollins Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray Cooper and the Rev. Tom Hilyer officiating. Burial will be in Hollins Cemetery in Hollins.

Mr. Owens died Feb. 14 at Baptist Medical Center Montclair. He was a member of Hollins Baptist Church and retired from Russell Corporation after some 26 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Owens of Hollins; son, Timothy Paul Owens of Hollins; sister, Linda Hurt of Warrior; grandson, Joshua Owens; and granddaughter, Emily Owens.

Pallbearers will be Tony Brannen, Matt Brannen, Shane Cook, Edward Price, Dock Hope, Chris Gallops, Louie Gallops, Joey Queen and Eddie Caldwell.

Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

KATHRYN GAY ROBERTS

ASHLAND — Funeral service for Kathryn Gay Roberts, 84, will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 3:30 p.m. at Benefield Funeral Home chapel in Ashland with the Rev. David Holmes officiating. Burial will be in Ashland City Cemetery.

Mrs. Roberts died Feb. 14 at Clay County Nursing Home. She was a native of Clay County and had lived most of her life in Tyler, Texas and Ashland. She was a graduate of Clay County High School, Montevallo University, the University of Alabama and Tulane University, where she received her B.S. and master’s degree in Sociology. After receiving her degree, she worked a number of years in social work. She was a historian, loved to travel, restoring antiques and was very active in her community and church. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Ashland. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allen Lane Roberts; father, Dr. J.S. Gay; mother, Cornelia Jenkins Gay; son, James Shakleford Roberts; and brother, Jim Shack Gay.

She is survived by one grandson; and three great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Keith McDonald, John McDonald, Mitch Ennis and Micah Lee Roberts.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland will direct the service.

MATTIE SUE TAUNTON

ALEXANDER CITY — Funeral service for Hattie Sue Taunton, 75, was Monday, Feb. 14, at 2 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. David Rozelle and the Rev. Mark Peoples officiating. Burial was in Ephesus Cemetery.

Mrs. Taunton died Feb. 12 at Russell Medical Center. She was born April 27, 1929 in Tallapoosa County to Jessie Vernon Foshee and Hattie Mae Lett Foshee. She enjoyed to cook and was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church. She was retired from Russell Corporation with 30 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Russell Foshee and Homer Lee Foshee; and sister, Eloise Bramblett.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles W. Taunton of Alexander City; son, Michael Charles Taunton of Alexander City; daughters, Susan Chambers, Joan Denney and Carolyn Milner of Alexander City and Dana Taunton of Sylacauga; brothers, Curtis Faulkner of Yakaima, Wash., and Kenneth Faulkner of Caoursegold, Calif.; sisters, Frances East, Mavis Phillips, Corene Wright and Agnes Allen of Alexander City; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City will direct the service.

JAMES LEE Thompson JR.

PAHRUMP, Nev. — Graveside service for James Lee Thompson Jr., 74, formerly of Clay County, will be Wednesday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m. in Mellow Valley Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Braden Morrison officiating.

Mr. Thompson died Feb. 6 at Southern Hill Hospital in Nevada. He was a native of Clay County and was a former resident of California. He has lived in Nevada since 1990. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Navy and was a retired manager of the United States Parcel Service with more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Country Music Association and Mellow Valley Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Lee Thompson Sr. and Fannie Imogene Jordan Thompson.

He is survived by brother, Ed Thompson of Cragford; and a number of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Blane Thompson, Tim Thompson, Ricky Thompson, Jared Thompson, Josh Thompson and Kelly Butler.

Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville will direct the service.

KAISER TUCK

ALEXANDER CITY — Kaiser Tuck died Feb. 14.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wright’s Funeral Home.

JEFF DARMER WALLACE

ASHVILLE — Jeff Darmer Wallace, 81, died Feb. 14 at his residence.

He was retired as a self-employed appliance repairman.

He is survived by his wife, DeeAnn Ingram Wallace of Ashville.

Usrey Funeral Home in Pell City is in charge of the arrangements.

SYLACAUGA — Ross D. Weathers, 82, died Feb. 15 at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga.

SHATRICK LaJUAN WHITE

TALLADEGA — Shatrick LaJuan White, 25, of 42 Curry Court, died Feb. 14 in Anniston.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Terry’s Metropolitan Mortuary.
