WILLIE ANN JEMISON

TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Willie Ann Jemison, 63, of Talladega will be Wednesday, March 16, at 1 p.m. at Africa Missionary Baptist Church in Talladega with the Rev. Willie T. Threatt and Bishop David L. Norwood officiating. Burial will be in Lawler Cemetery in Talladega. The body may be viewed at 12 p.m. at the church.

Ms. Jemison died March 10 at University of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham.

She is survived by daughters Betty J. Ragland of Talladega and L'Tanya Lynch of Wichita Falls, Texas; stepdaughters Delores Hayes, Jacqueline Jemison and Tina Cook, all of Talladega; son Dwayne Miller of Raleigh, N.C.; stepmother Lucille B. Miller of New Bern of N.C.; five sisters; two brothers; 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary of Talladega will direct the service.

EDITH BURNETT NEWMAN

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Edith Burnett Newman, 79, of Sylacauga will be Tuesday, March 15, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel in Sylacauga with the Rev. Jim Stanford officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Sylacauga.

Mrs. Newman died March 14 at Coosa Valley Medical Center in Sylacauga.

She is survived by her brother, Wilks Burnett of Rome, Ga., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Ernest Newman.

Mrs. Newman was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was manager of Judge of Probate office in Sylacauga for 25 years, from which she retired.

The family will receive friends March 15 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the North Chapel, Sylacauga.

Pallbearers will be Ray McDiarmid, Bobby McDiarmid, John Straussseberger, Byron Hokins, Ronnie Smith and Frank Wills. Curtis and Son North Chapel of Sylacauga will direct the service.

ODESSA BLAIR PAYTON

SYLACAUGA — Funeral service for Odessa Blair Payton, 90, will be Tuesday, March 15, at 2 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sonny Riggins officiating. Interment will be in Fayetteville Methodist Cemetery.

Mrs. Payton died March 13 at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

She was a member of Mignon Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Payton, and her son, Bobby Payton.

She is survived by her son, Milford Payton of Sylacauga, daughters, Janet P. Williams of Alpine, Ozaline P. Carter of Winterboro, Tava P. Poynter of Peel, Ak., Frances P. Britt of Hampton, Ga.; sister, Lena B. Sims of Sylacauga; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 10 great, great-grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will accept flowers or suggest contributions be made to Mignon Church of Christ, West 2nd St., Sylacauga, AL 35150. Radney-Smith Funeral Home in Sylacauga will direct the service.

LOIS MAE TURNER

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Lois Mae Turner, 61, of Talladega will be Tuesday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at Miracle Prayer House Cathedral in Anniston with Prophet Margaret McDill officiating. Burial will be in Eden Hills Cemetery in Anniston. The body may be viewed 1 hour prior to services at the church.

Mrs. Turner died March 10 at Regional Medical Center in Anniston.

She was a native of Birmingham and a member of the Miracle Prayer House Cathedral.

She is survived by her husband Clinton Turner, Jr. of Talladega; sisters, Carolyn Symonette of Temple Hills, Md., Bertha Dunham and her husband Tommy of Oxon Hill, Md.; brother Willie Smith and his wife Delphia of Birmingham; and mother, Mrs. Beatrice Smith of Temple Hills, Md.

Pallbearers will be friends of the family. Anniston Funeral Service in Anniston will direct the service.

PELL CITY - Service for Buford Eugene Andrews, 66, will be March 16, 2 p.m., Prescott Holiness Church. Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds, will direct.

Coleman

GOODWATER - Funeral service for Voncile Coleman will be Thursday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church. Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

Cook

GADSDEN - Larry Dean Cook, 49, died March 14 in Gadsden. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Sims Funeral Service.

Jackson

ALEXANDER CITY - Service for Marvin Jackson will be Wednesday, March 16, 2 p.m., Miracle Baptist Church. Burial in Seleeta Cemetery. Wright's Funeral Home will direct the service.

Johnson

PINSON - Funeral service for Donna Jo Johnson, 48, will be Friday, March 18, at 2 p.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home chapel in Pell City. Kilgroe Funeral Home will direct the service.

Kelley

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Myrtle Thomas Kelley, 92, will be Thursday, March 17, at 11 a.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home North chapel with the Rev. Wayne McDaniel and the Rev. Ed Ledlow officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Kelley died March 15 at Sylacauga Health Care. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan McCall Kelley; sons, Bobby Kelley and Dan Kelley Jr.; and grandchildren, Richard Earl Smith and Troy Kelley. She was retired from Avondale Mills. She is survived by sons, Jimmy Lee Kelley of Sylacauga, Thomas Emanuel Kelley and wife Jackie of Sylacauga, Melvin Ray Kelley and wife Wanda of Sylacauga and Billy Wayne Kelley of Sylacauga; daughters, Shirley Barker and husband Wiley of Sylacauga and Johnnie Graves and husband Billy of Sylacauga; 30 grandchildren; and a host of great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

Moore

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Emogene Shaddix Moore, 83, died Thursday, March 10, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born and raised in Ironaton, Alabama where she met and married her husband. Mrs. Moore was a devoted military wife of 21 years who lived for her husband and family. She was an Avon representative for many years but was always a homemaker first.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Moore, the great love of her life; her parents, W.A. Shaddix and Margie McKay Shaddix; brothers, Edward Shaddix and Robert Shaddix of Talladega. Emogene is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Bill Steavpack of McRae, Ga., and Tania and Fred Casey of Savannah, Ga.; her cherished grandchildren, Scott Krueger, James Harrelson, Stacee Harrelson, Laura Steavpack, Stephanie August and Michael Casey; her loving baby brother, Frank Shaddix; sister-in-law, Catherine Shaddix and their family of Talladega; her sister, Eloise Cole and family of Harriman, Tenn.; and her dear brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence and Lynnette Moore and family of Springville.

Funeral service was held Sunday, March 13, at Massey-Franke Chapel with the Rev. Dusty Reynolds officiating. Pallbearers were Fred Casey, James Harrelson, Scott Krueger, Tim Moore, Greg Shaddix and Robert Moore. She was laid to rest at Hillcrest Abbey West Cemetery next to her loving husband. Massey-Franke Chapel directed the service.

Penn

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - Funeral service for Green W. Penn, 81, of 815 N. 6th St., will be Tuesday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at Terry's Metropolitan Chapel in Talladega with the Rev. Allen Arnold officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Mr. Penn died March 9 at Trinity Hospital West. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburg Steel Company and was a WW II Army veteran.

He is survived by daughter Juliette Jeter of Montgomery; sons, Wesley William Penn of Dallas, TX and Marvin James Penn of Berlin, Germany; sister Gloria Smith of Talladega; five grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Terry's Metropolitan Mortuary in Talladega will direct the service.

Thomas

RAGLAND - Funeral service for Essie Mae Thomas, 66, of 361 Thomas Drive, will be Thursday, March 17, at 1 p.m. at Refuge Baptist Church with Pastor O.L. Huntley officiating. Burial will be in Morning Star Cemetery. Mrs. Thomas died March 8 at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Deacon Charlie L. Thomas of Ragland; sons, Alfred Thomas of Jacksonville, Fla., and Spencer Thomas of Ragland; sister, Rosezella Oden of Moreno Valley, Calif.; brothers, Eddie B. Collins of Riverside, James Collins of Battle Creek, Mich., Harvey J. Collins of Gary, Ind., and Hollis Collins of Riverside; four grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts and other relatives.

The body may be viewed at the church for one hour before the service. Deacons will serve as pallbearers. Sims Funeral Service will direct the service.

Wallis

TALLADEGA - Milton Howell Wallis passed away at her residence on Monday, March 14. Mrs. Wallis, preceded in death by her husband, Kennon Elliott Wallis, was a native of Talladega. She was a retired teacher for the Alabama School for the Deaf, a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Lydia Sunday School class, Daughters of the American the Revolution, Jonquil Garden Club, Kappa Kappa Iota, the Argus Club, Historical Society and a Heritage Hall Docent.

Mrs. Wallis is survived by her son, Ken H. Wallis; daughter-in-law, Kathy Wallis; grandsons, Kennon Elliott Wallis II and Clinton Barrett Wallis; sisters, Frances Williams of Birmingham and Mary Virginia Christopher of Slidell, La. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at Usrey Funeral Home. Graveside service will be Thursday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Leeann Scarborough officiating.

Pallbearers are nephews of Mrs. Wallis and honorary pallbearers are Andy Brown, Bobby W. Weaver, Bobbie Howard, Betty Willingham, Dr. Jim Davis and Gene Caldwell. Usrey Funeral Home will direct the service.

Jemison
