LARRY DEREESE GARRETT, SR.

ROYAL PALM BEACH, Fla. - Funeral services for Larry Dereese Garrett, Sr., 49, formerly of Talladega, were Saturday, July 2, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Jupiter, Fla. The Rev. Reginald Davis officiated. Burial was at Mt. Carmel Memorial Park. Mr. Garrett died Monday, June 27.

Mr. Garrett is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hay Garrett of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; children, Larry Dereese Garrett, Jr., Trinette Latrease Garrett and Shawon Martel Garrett all of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; sister, Nadine G. Canady of Miami, Fla.; brother, Archie Lee Garrett of Port Lucie, Fla. and Charles Lee of Talladega; aunt, Mary Frances Threatt of Talladega; uncle, Joe Fluker of Talladega. Steven Brothers Funeral Home of Royal Palm Beach directed the services.

ALEXANDER CITY - Carolyn Jackson, died July 4 at BMC Montclair Hospital. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Wright's Funeral Home.

CLEVELAND OTTIS "SPEEDIE" NORTHCUTT

SYLACAUGA - Funeral services for Cleveland Ottis "Speedie" Northcutt, 61, will be Thursday, July 7, at 11 a.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Higginbotham officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Northcutt died Monday, July 4, at his residence. He was preceded in death by his father, A.C. Northcutt; sisters, Leona Northcutt, Mayrene Hayes, Annette Wilson; and brothers, Tommy Northcutt and Earl Northcutt.

He is survived by daughters, Linda N. Owens, Alice M. Ricks and Myra DeLoach; son, Timothy W. Northcutt; mother, Katherine Northcutt; brothers, Terry Northcutt and Barry Northcutt; all of Sylacauga; sisters, Loretta Acklin and Tinie McGilberry both of Childersburg, Janis Coker of Harpersville, and Judy Thomas of Childersburg; and 4 grandchildren. ARTHUR "DODGIE" SHIERLING

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. - Arthur "Dodgie" Shierling, 92, passed away on Monday, July 4, at Houston Medical Center. Services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, at First Baptist Church Centerville, with interment following in Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, at McCullough Funeral Home.

Mr. Shierling was born October 30, 1912 in Talladega to the late Johnny and Lanie Shierling. After 20 years of service, he retired from General Motors in LaGrange, Ill., where he worked as an Electrician in the Electro Motors Division. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Shierling was a member of First Baptist Church Centerville. In addition to his parents, his wife, Christine DeLaney Shierling, preceded him in death.

Survivors include, sons, Billy G. Shierling, Centerville; Dan Shierling, Jr., Homosassa, Fla.; and Johnny Wayne Shierling, Palm Coast, Fla.; daughter, Brenda Morgan, Warner Robins, Ga.; twelve grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. MABLE JEAN TILLERY

TALLADEGA - Funeral services for Mable Jean Tillery, 84, will be Wednesday, July 6, at 2 p.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Hester officiating. Burial will be Thursday, July 7, at 2 p.m. from the Mossey Grove Cemetery in Troy, Ala.

Mrs. Tillery died July 4 at her home. She was a native of Pike County but had lived many years in Talladega County. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Harvest Field Church. She is survived by her daughters, Irma Jean Mitchell of Ashland, Sue Marie Miller of Talladega, Deborah Ann Harris of Talladega; sons, John D. Tillery of North Fort Myers, Fla., Billy Joe Tillery of Montgomery, Larry J. Tillery of Talladega, Luther Thomas Tillery of Ozark; sisters, Irene Welch and Julia May Davis; brother, Norris Davis; 25 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Junior Tillery, Ricky Hendon, Adam McGrady, Jonathan Harris, William Miller and Danny Tillery. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the service.

STEPHEN ELLIOT WILLIAMS

CHILDERSBURG - Graveside rites for Stephen Elliot Williams, 36, will be Thursday, July 7, at 1 p.m. at Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega with the Rev. Larry Atkisson officiating. Mr. Williams died Tuesday, July 5, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was a native of Talladega County and a resident of Childersburg for the past 8 years. He was a member of Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rebecca Jane Odom. He is survived by his wife, Susan Harper of Sylacauga; father and step-mother, Stephen C. and Mary Ann Williams of Childersburg. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 6, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Usrey Brown Funeral Home in Talladega will direct the service.

Burial will be at Hepzibah Baptist Cemetery. Master Denton is survived by his loving care takers and family, Mike and Joyce Oglesby, Billy Oglesby, Brad Oglesby, Heidi Oglesby, Tracy Oglesby, Lisa Taylor, Jennifer Rainey and Kenny Hughes all of Talladega. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21 from 6-8 p.m. at Usrey.

CHILDERSBURG - Funeral services for Phyllis Jean Dorough, 66, will be Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel with the Rev. Freddie Edwards officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Signal Cemetery in Westover. Mrs. Dorough died Tuesday, July 19 at her residence. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church. She loved her church and her church family.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Brenda Lee Dorough. She is survived by daughters, Tammy Sue Hamilton and husband, Paul of Childersburg and Shirley Jean Hamilton and husband, Philip of Childersburg; brother, Clifford "Skipper" Stark and wife, Donna of Pomengy, Oregon; sister, Jackie Frandsen and husband, Don of Palmdale, CA.; grandchildren, Jason and Tamara. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21 from 5:30-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

SYLACAUGA - Funeral services for Howard Earl Duffee, 81, will be Friday, July 22 at 10 a.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Mike Pearson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Duffee died Wednesday, July 20 in Sylacauga. He was a member of BPOE lodge in Childersburg; retired from Kimberly-Clark after some 32 years of service; married 62 years; member of the Coosa Valley Medical Center Auxiliary; honorably discharged from the U.S. Army; loved baseball, football, and bowling.

He is survived by his wife, Mable Duffee of Sylacauga; daughter, Debra Thornton and husband, David of Sylacauga; brothers, Charles Duffee of Hawesville, KY. and Ronnie Duffee of Sylacauga; grandsons, Michael Johns and wife, Tamisha of Sylacauga and Lee Thornton and wife, Janice of Dallas, GA; granddaughters, Chevy Thornton and Kim Thornton of Sylacauga; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21 from 6-8 p.m. The family will accept flowers or contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Suite 201, Birmingham, AL 35205.

WEOGUFKA - Funeral services for Mary Lucille "Lucy" Thornton, 84, will be Friday, July 22 at 2 p.m. at Weogufka Family Worship Center with the Rev. Albert Thornton and the Rev. Tommy Thornton officiating. Burial will be at Weogufka Family Worship Center Cemetery. Mrs. Thornton was a charter member of Weogufka Family Worship Center and a chaplain at Sylacauga Health Care Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Ralph Thornton; parents, George and Lilla Mooney; grandchildren, Billy Norrell and Erin Thornton; and her five brothers. She is survived by sons, the Rev. Albert Thornton and wife, Sidiar of Valley and the Rev. Tommy Thornton and wife, Nancy of Hanover; daughters, Shirley Waites and husband, Johnny of Rockford and Linda Miller and husband, Buck of Sylacauga; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21 from 5-8 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Barnett died Tuesday, August 9 at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He attended Fairmont Grace Church.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Barnett of Sylacauga; son, Terry R. Barnett and wife, Jamie of Alabaster; daughter, Jean Barnett Brown and husband, David of Athens; mother, Vernie G. Barnett of Sylacauga; brother, James K. Barnett of Gadsden; five grandchildren, Caleb Barnett, Isaac Barnett, Saige Barnett, Connor Brown, and Blake Brown. Burton, Jr. of Talladega; uncles, Buddy Luther of Talladega, and John C. Morris of Childersburg; aunts, Ann Ivey of Talladega and Juanita Moore of Anniston; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Miss Grimes died Tuesday, August 9 at Sylacauga Health & Rehab. She worked for Dr. Craddock for 50 years. She is survived by her nephew, Robert Grimes and wife, Averil of Sylacauga; great nephews and nieces, Joe Grimes and wife, Bonnie of Anniston, Kris Heaton and husband Alan of Woodstock, GA., Joyce Peters and husband Lee of Birmingham, Brandon Heaton of Woodstock, GA., and Alyson Grimes of Anniston. Visitation will be Thursday, August 11 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will accept flowers or donations to be made to First Baptist Church. FREDRICK (TED) EUGENE IVEY

SYLACAUGA - Funeral services for Fredrick (Ted) Eugene Ivey, 78, will be Wednesday, August 10 at 3:30 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Dale Abrams officiating. Burial will be at Marble City Cemetery. Mr. Ivey died Tuesday, August 9 at UAB Hospital.

He graduated from B. B. Comer, played football for Comer-chosen All State End; drafted by the U.S. Army right out of school before he could use an Auburn football scholarship; served as a MP in Germany and also in Japan; returned to Sylacauga to work at Avondale Mills; married Glenda Vinson in January of 1949; built first skating rink in Sylacauga; built first bowling center in Sylacauga; started in the construction business and built homes for many years while raising their five children; he built and operated the 11th Frame Club for over 30 years; he was an avid Auburn fan and a Braves fan; besides his wife and children, the love of his life was their place at the lake where he loved to fish and feed his hummingbirds.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda Vinson Ivey; sons, Fredrick Eugene (Rick) Ivey, Jr. and wife, Lynda of Sylacauga and Glen Anthony (Tony) Ivey of Sylacauga; daughters, Gaye McDaniel and husband, Roger of Childersburg, Kimberly (Kim) Long and husband, Greg of Sylacauga, and Kit Ivey of Forest, Miss.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shane McDaniel, Slade McDaniel, Trey Ivey, Cody Long, Bre Long, and T.J. Ivey. Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.
