TALLADEGA — Graveside services for Betty Lou Abrams, 68, will be Wednesday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Albert Thornton officiating. She died Saturday, June 10 in Clanton. She was a native and life long resident of Talladega County. She was of the Baptist faith, a retired employee of Wehadkee Yarn Mills, and a former Member of Oak Hill Cemetery Board. She was preceded in death by parents Millard Pelham and Mary Louise Abrams. She is survived by brother & sister-in-law, Millard C. & Linda Abrams of Clanton; niece, Stacey Abrams of Clanton; nephew, David Abrams & wife Shannon of Clanton; and four great-nieces.

Pallbearers will be Milton Cochran, Jerry Ansley, Jim Brock, Wayne Ferrell, David Abrams, and Jimmy Lipham. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 13 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Usrey. Usrey Funeral Home, Talladega, will direct the service.

TALLADEGA — Funeral service for Betty Jean Cowan, 72, will be Wednesday, June 14, at 4 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. John Renda Jr. Officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Cowan died Saturday, June 10, at Talladega Health Care. She was a native and life long resident of Talladega. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene C. Jones, Barlow Cowan; and her special friend, Robert Humphies. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah Popham Wade of Talladega and Carolyn Henderson of Talladega; sons, Stan Jones of Riverside, Larry Jones of Talladega, Steve Jones of Riverside, and Mike Jones of Oxford; one step-son, Eugene Jones Jr.; sister, Margaret Yates of New Site; and brother, Charles Brown of Talladega; 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Jamie Popham, Timothy Johnson, Roger Johnson, Michael Nix, Shaun Jones, Larry Jones Jr., and Marion Eugene Henderson. The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 14, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.

PEGGY C. GALLOWAY

TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Peggy C. Galloway, 75, will be today at 4 p.m. at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens Cemetery. Mrs. Galloway died Saturday, June 10, at her residence. She was a native and life long resident of Talladega. She is survived by her husband, Frank Galloway of Talladega; son, Mike Galloway of Lincoln; daughter, Peggy Jones of Riverside; brother, Jim Cooper of Daytona, FL; two grandchildren, Lisa King and Josh Galloway; and two great grandchildren, Aaron King and Michelle King.

Pallbearers will be William Merritt, Adam Hayden, Bill Hayden, Marvin Preston, Larry Wells, and Carl Taft. Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home will direct the service.

HUBERT CLARENCE HATCHETT

CHILDERSBURG — Funeral services for Hubert Clarence Hatchett, 84, will be Monday, June 12, at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Childersburg with the Rev. Byron White officiating. Burial will be in Greenhill Memorial Gardens. Mr. Hatchett died Thursday, June 8, at Carraway Methodist Medical Center. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Childersburg, Shriners, Scottish Rite, and Blue Lodge Masonry. He served in Air Corp during World War II. He spent two years and six months in Asian Theater. He retired from Kimberly Clark after 40 years of service. He worked for 13 years with various charities in the area. His great loves were his church, his family and the needy people. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hatchett of Childersburg; son, Ed Vernon and wife Joann of Birmingham; two daughters, Susan Carpenter and husband Steve of Childersburg, Donna Cowell and husband Kevin of Sylacauga; five grandchildren, Stacey Carpenter, Amanda Carpenter, Brad Vernon, Matt Cowell, and Jennifer Cowell; two sisters, Doris Epperson of Sylacauga and Ruby Pinson of Ypsilanti, Michigan; brother, Thomas Hatchett of Sylacauga. Visitation will be Sunday, June 11, from 5:30-8 p.m. at Curtis and Son Childersburg Chapel. The body will lie in state from 12-1 p.m. at the church on Monday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Childersburg. Honorary pallbearers will be the Masonic Lodge Members. Curtis and Son Funeral Home Childersburg Chapel will direct the services.

DORIS C. HOWARD

STERRETT — Funeral service for Mrs. Doris C. Howard was Monday, June 12, at 11 a.m. at Beulah Baptist Church. Mrs. Howard taught school for 15 years as a teachers aid; taught Sunday School at Beulah for approximately 40 years. During WWII she was issued a defense certificate and was principle at Vandiver Elementary School. She worked on B-24 bombers during World War II. She was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Howard is survived by one son, Barry Howard of Sterrett; two daughters, Jean Ingram of Lincoln and Judy Rhodes of Hueytown; one brother, Alvin Churchwell of Sterrett; five grandchildren, Stephen Allison, Julianne Wells, David Rhodes, Brian Rhodes and Lisa Marie Pate; one great granddaughter, Courtney Wells. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.B. Howard. Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City directed the service.

L.D. JONES

LINCOLN — Funeral services for L.D. Jones, age 90, will be Tuesday, June 13, at 11 a.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Nickles officiating. Burial will follow from the Odena Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Jones passed away June 10, at Citizens BMC in Talladega. Survivors are his wife, Della B. Jones of Lincoln; three daughters, Beatrice Conner of Talladega, Sara Barnett and her husband Roger of Lincoln, and Frances Carden of Talladega; four sons, Franklin Jones and wife Ann of Talladega, Samuel Jones and his wife Patsy of Lincoln, Daniel Jones and his wife Vonnie of Bynum, Raymond Jones and his wife Andrea of Talladega; 14 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. Active pallbearers are John Caldwell, Stevie Matson, Brad Jones, Tim Caldwell, Michael Danna, and Brandon McKibbon. Mr. Jones was a native of Tallapoosa County but had lived most of his life in Talladega County. He was retired from the Newberry Foundry; and was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. Talladega Funeral Home will direct the services.

LINNIE PEARL MERRELL LUKER

GOODWATER — Funeral service for Linnie Pearl Merrell Luker, 93, will be Wednesday, June 14, at 9:30 a.m. at Goodwater Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy Hardeman officiating. Interment will be in Greenview Cemetery in Goodwater. Mrs. Luker died Sunday, June 11, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Horace (J.H.) Luker; and her son, James Merrell Luker. She was a member of Goodwater Baptist Church. She is survived by daughters, Mrs. Frances Hood of Carrolton, GA, Mrs. Ann Daniel of Powder Springs, GA, and Mrs. Doris Needham of Lilburn, GA; brother, John W. Merrell of Hackneyville; sister, Francis Maddox of Ashland; and five grandchildren, Joseph Hood, James Hood, Emily Daniel Loden, Lance Needham, and Paul Hood. Burial will be in Evergreen Methodist Cemetery, Springville. She died July 8, in Birmingham. She was a loving wife and mother. She is survived by husband, Pat Ferguson; sons, Gene (Gina) Ferguson and Tim (Regina) Ferguson; sister, Ellie Phillips; brothers, Paul (Charlotte) Phillips, Ray (Clara) Phillips, Don (Jenny) Phillips, P.V. (Cathy) Phillips; four grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Usrey Funeral Home, Pell City will direct the service.

KELLYTON — Funeral service for Elizabeth Gail Smith, 59, will be Tuesday, July 11, at 4 p.m. at Radney-Smith Chapel with the Rev. Don Graves officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Smith died Saturday, July 8, at Medical Center East Birmingham. She was a native of Marengo County and raised in Mobile. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Julian Gunter. She is survived by her husband, James T. Smith of Kellyton; daughter, Julie Tucker Hughes of Sylacauga; two sons, Bennie Tucker Jr. of Mobile, and Robert Gordon Beeler of Birmingham; sister, Brenda Thornton of Sylacauga; grandsons, Chase Hughes and Steven Tucker both of Sylacauga; granddaughters, Brooke Hughes, Katie Hughes, and Joy Tucker, all of Sylacauga. VERNA Jackson BROWN
TALLADEGA — Verna Jackson Brown, age 91, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2006. A Graveside Service is scheduled for Thursday, Aug 10th at 10 a.m. in Oak Hill Cemetery in Talladega. She was a member of First UMC of Talladega since 1946. Ms. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Brown.

Survivors include her son, Jim (Dot) Brown of Montgomery; grandchildren, Mark Stovall (Dee) Brown of Huntsville & Russell Jackson (Amie) Brown of Montgomery; 4 great grandchildren and her sister, Elizabeth Zweig of Phoenix, AZ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Kate Clardy Sunday School Class Scholarship Fund at First UMC in Talladega.

THOMAS CASCIARO JR

COLUMBUS, GA — Thomas Casciaro, Jr, 70 died at St. Francis Hospital, Monday, August 7, 2006 after an extended illness and is now in his Father’s care. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, August 11, 2006 in St. Anne Catholic Church with Father Gerard Schreck officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road. Burial with military honors will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. A Rosary will be said Thursday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home with visitation to follow until 8:00 P.M. Casciaro was born August 8, 1935 in Youngstown, OH son of the late Thomas Casciaro, Sr. and Sara Casciaro Christoforidis. He honorably served his country for 21 years in the U. S. Army. During his military career he served in Germany, the Vietnam Conflict and the Conflict in Lebanon in 1958. After retiring from the U. S. Army, he worked for 21 years as a mail carrier for the U. S. Post Office. Mr. Casciaro was an active member of St. Anne Catholic Church, serving as an usher. Other community activities included, active participation in the Knights of Columbus and serving as a Lt. Colonel of the Civil Air Patrol. Tom Casciaro will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather (Opa), dedicated soldier and friend to all. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Zachary T. Casciaro.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Margot Casciaro of Columbus, GA; four sons, Ralph R. Casciaro of Florida, Eugene A. Casciaro and his wife, Renee of Columbus, GA, LTC Thomas L. Casciaro and his wife, Beth of Burke, VA and LTC Michael A. Casciaro and his wife, Elizabeth of Germany; a sister, Marilyn Lane and her husband, Randy of Louisville, KY; sixteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren; numerous relatives in Germany; several aunts, cousins and special friends. TALLADEGA — Funeral services for Mrs. Faye Giles Faust, 77, will be Thursday, August 10, at 10 a.m. from the Talladega Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Greg Walker officiating. Entombment will follow from the Pine Hill Memorial Park in Talladega. Mrs. Faust passed away Sunday, August 6 at her home. Mrs. Faust was a native of Ft. Benning, Georgia but had lived most of her life in Talladega County, Alabama. She was a member of the Northside Baptist Church and was a retired LPN with some 40 years service in the medical field. Survivor are daughters, Donna Faust Curlee and her husband Tommy of Munford, Elah Faust Henry and her husband Marshall of Knoxville, Tenn., Deana Faust Canada of Talladega, Ala.; sons, Garland J. Faust and his wife Joyce of Enterprise, Ala., and Edward Faust of Talladega, Ala.; sisters, Debra Giles Catena of Ellicott, Mo., Bettie Ford of Lost Creek, W. He was a native and life long resident of Talladega County; a member of the Baptist Faith; gradute of 1982 Clay County High School; past member of Alabama National Guard; Employed by Stemley Auto Sales. He is survived by wife, Cheryl Ann Horne of Lincoln; daughter, Jaunita L. Horne, of Lincoln; parents, James Horne of Childersburg and Shirley Horne of Talladega; sister, LaJean Horne of Talladega. Burial will be at Midway Memory Gardens Veterans Garden of Honor. Mrs. Patterson died Sunday, August 6 at Tranquility A Residential Hospice. Mrs. Patterson is preceded in death by her husband Frank Patterson, Mother & Father Thurman & Mary Smith, sisters Margie Ferrell and Alma Jean Smith, son Jerry Patterson. CHILDERSBURG — Funeral services for Alvin Lee Pugh, 54, will be at Childersburg Church of Christ, Wednesday, August 9, 2 p.m., with Brother Clarence Denney officiating. Burial will be in Kahatchee Cemetery. Mr. Pugh died Monday, August 7 at his residence. He was a member of Childersburg Church of Christ. He was a loving father and grandfather and loved his neighbors and friends. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Pugh of Sylacauga; sons, Terry Pugh and Timothy Pugh and wife Rita; daughter, Rebecca Hilliker and husband Kary all of Sylacauga; Mother, Geneva Verdean Pugh; brothers, Jesse Pugh and wife Carolyn and Charles Ray Pugh and wife Martha all of Childersburg; sister, Deborah McConatha of Birmingham; five grandchildren.
