BESSIE POWELL CHEATHAM
SYLACAUGA—Funeral services for Bessie Powell Cheatham, 89, will be held on Monday at noon at Rising Star Baptist Church. Rev. Maunuell Smith will officiate. Burial will be held in Sylacauga Cemetery.

Mrs. Cheatham died on Jan. 23 at her residence.

Mrs. Cheatham was a member of Rising Star Baptist Church. She served as Sunday school and BTU teacher and as an adult advisor for the children’s choir and the Junior Missionary Society. She was a member of the Chrysanthemum Club and the Magnolia Chapter #59 of the Order of Eastern Stars.

She is survived by her children, Fannie Powell, Mary Eyvone Grimmett, both of Detroit; and Otha Earl Cheatham of Sylacauga; brother, John Crum of Birmingham; sister, Blanche White of Mobile; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers will be Darrick A Grimmett, Jesse Powell, Fred Pearson, Darrick Grimmett II, Djenan A. Grimmett, Joseph Rearden, Jimmy Odum and Djenan A. Grimmett II.

Flowerbearers will be Rising Star Baptist Church Missionaries and friends and Magnolia Chapter #59 of the Order of Eastern Stars.

Visitation will be held at Community Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 until 8 p.m.

Family hour will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Rising Star Baptist Church.

Community Funeral Home will direct the service.

J.D. EDWARDS

SYCAMORE—Funeral service J.D. Edwards, 84, will be Monday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at Sycamore Baptist Church with the Rev. Brandon Stripling officiating. Burial will be in Midway Memory Gardens.

Mr. Edwards died Saturday, Jan. 27, at Coosa Valley Medical Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Sylacauga. He was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church and an active member of Curtis Liner’s Sunday School class. He was a veteran of World War II and an active member of the American Legion Post 45.

He is survived by his wife, Millie Louise Edwards; one brother, Robert Lee Edwards of Alpine; one sister, Miriam Louise Potter of Sylacauga; two sons, Robert (Angie) Edwards and David (Susie) Edwards, all of Alpine; three grandchildren, Shani Renee Johnson, Mark Elliot Edwards and Heather Danielle Edwards; one great-grandchild, Kaleb Zander Edwards; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Vera and Robert Lee Edwards Sr.

Pallbearers will be Mark Edwards, Shannon Johnson, Winston Abernathy, Vernon Burkes, Frank Hammons, Johnny Harris and Jim Gentry. Honorary pallbearers will be Henry Hendrix, Sonny Landers and the men’s Sunday school class at Sycamore Baptist.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Midway Memory Gardens Funeral Home.

ANN ADAMS ACKLIN JENNINGS

GOODWATER—Funeral service for Mrs. Ann Adams Acklin Jennings, 51, will be Monday, Jan. 29, at 2 p.m. at Curtis and Son North Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Jennings died Friday, Jan. 26, at her home. A native of Sylacauga, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Brian Acklin; her mother, Loyce Adams; and her father, Dr. Paul Adams.

She is survived by her husband, Philip Troy Jennings of Goodwater; one son, Michael Jennings of Huntsville; four daughters, Melissa Brazier of Sycamore, Courtney Owens of Stewartville, Meagan Acklin of Childersburg and Christa Jennings of Sylacauga; two brothers, Don Adams of Birmingham and Bill Adams of Glenn Ridge, N.J.; one sister, Mickey Orton of Sylacauga; four grandchildren, Austin and Clay Brazier, Elise Owens and Logan Jennings.

Pallbearers will be Corey Brazier, Chris Owens, Pete Patmalnee, Henry Roddam, Curtis Acklin and Clay Acklin.

Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 28, from 5:30 until 9 p.m.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

LEON AVERITTE

SYLACAUGA - Leon Averitte, 59, 105 Averitte Drive, died Jan. 26 at Brookwood Medical Center in Birmingham.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Community Funeral Home.

OZELLE E. BARKER

MOODY—Funeral service for Mrs. Ozelle E. Barker, 86, of Moody will be Sunday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Kilgroe chapel. Burial will follow in Moody Cemetery.

Mrs. Barker died Jan. 26. The best mother in the world, she worked as a seamstress and was a loving wife. Born in Cullman, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon J. Barker Sr.; a son, Thurman V. Barker; a daughter, Juanita Barker Johnson; and two grandsons, Chuck Barker and Christopher Mitchell.

She is survived by two daughters, Geneva Faye Barker and Brenda B. Sturgeon; two sons, Harold C. Barker and Vernon J. Barker Jr.; four brothers, Doyle Crutchfield, Jack Crutchfield, Gene Crutchfield and Thurston Crutchfield; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Donations may be made to the American Lung Association.

Kilgroe Funeral Home of Leeds will direct the service.

MARGIE B. GRAVETTE

SYLACAUGA—Mrs. Margie B. Gravette, 70, passed away at Coosa Valley Medical Center Saturday, Jan. 27.

Funeral arrangements will be announced by Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel on a later date.

DONNA MARIE DULANEY JENKINS

TALLADEGA — Graveside service for Mrs. Donna Marie Dulaney Jenkins, age 45, of Wellington, Ala., will be Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 11 a.m. from the Eastaboga Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jason Grissom officiating.

Mrs. Jenkins passed away Jan. 27 at UAB in Birmingham.

Survives are her husband, Tony Ray Jenkins of Wellington; one son, Kenneth Lee Dulaney of Eastaboga; one stepson, Christopher Matthew Jenkins of Wellington; two stepdaughers, Angie Clemer of Jacksonville and Selena Nicole Dulin of Alexandria; her parents, Bobby and Mary Helen Dulaney of Eastaboga; one sister, Renee Cochran and her husband, Tom, of Eastaboga; one brother, David L. Dulaney and his wife, Ladonna, of Eastaboga; grandchildren, Mikayla and Gabriel Dulin; grandparents, Fred and Gladys Larron of Kissimmee, Fla., Susie Dulaney of Eastaboga; special aunts, Nell McAnnally, Virginia Slaughter; special uncles, Cecil Moore and his wife, Susie, Jerry Moore, Danny Moore and his wife, Kathy, C.J. Dulaney and his wife, Helen; special friend of the family, Robert “Bob” L. Mathew; and many loving cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by two grandfathers, one uncle and her great-grandparents.

Active pallbearers are Johnny Bates, Kenneth Gardner, Steve McAnnally, Scott Moore and Brian Williams.

Mrs. Jenkins was a native of Ft. Benning, Ga., but had lived most of her life in Talladega County. She was a member of the Eastaboga Baptist Church and was an employee of B.R. Williams Trucking Company. She was a member of the North East Alabama Cherokee Tribe.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Kelly Gilmore or Ginger Silva at Citizens BMC, 604 Stone Ave., Talladega, Al. 35160.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

ALMOND WYATT MONCUS

SYLACAUGA—Graveside service for Mr. Almond Wyatt Moncus, 78, will be Monday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery with Brother Tony Lee officiating.

Mr. Moncus died Friday, Jan. 26, at Clay County Hospital.

He is survived by two daughters, Glenda M. Smith and husband Larry E. Smith of Sylacauga and Sabrina M. Peters and husband Stanley Peters of Lineville; three grandchildren, Eric L. Smith of Augusta, Ga., Leah B. Smith of Auburn and Tommy E. Smith of Sylacauga; and one great-grandchild, Isaac Smith of Augusta, Ga.

Pallbearers will be L.C. McMurphy, Randy Smith, Keith Honeycutt, David Wood, Howard Hill and Mark Tapley.

Curtis and Son Funeral Home North Chapel will direct the service.

WILMA H. NABORS

TALLADEGA—Graveside service for Mrs. Wilma H. Nabors, 86, of Talladega will be Monday, Jan. 29, at 11 a.m. from the Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Max Briggs officiating.

Mrs. Nabors passed away Jan. 27 at the LaFayette Nursing Home in LaFayette.

Survivors are one daughter, Jane Adair of Talladega; one son, Lonnie Ferrell McCarley and his wife, Patricia, of Alabaster; one sister, Allie Jay Martin of Leeds; two brothers, Wilson Herron and Harold Kirby, both of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Todd McCarley and Matthew Adair; two great-grandchildren, Abby McCarley and Clint McCarley; special niece, Brenda Gotham, as well as several other nieces and nephews; and special friend and caregiver, Lisa McDonald.

Mrs. Nabors is preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Nabors Sr.

Active pallbearers will be David McDonald, Josh McDonald, Rob McDonald, Tom McDonald, Todd McCarley and Matthew Adair.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ed Smith, Tommy Pike, Larry Wells and Zane Sherman.

Mrs. Nabors was a native of Randolph County but lived most of her life in Talladega County. She was a homemaker and retired from Bemiston Mills. She was a member of the Hanley Baptist Church in Roanoke.

The family will receive friends Monday from 9 until 11 a.m. at Talladega Funeral Home.

FRANCES LOUISE GADDY RAY

CHILDERSBURG — Mrs. Frances Louise “Presh” Gaddy Ray, 91, of Graceville, Fla., died Friday, Jan. 26, at Wesley Manor in Dothan, Ala., following an extended illness.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 28, at Greenhill Memorial Gardens in Childersburg, Ala., with the Rev. Russell Goodson officiating, James & Lipford Funeral Home directing.

The family requests donations be made to Wesley Manor or Wiregrass Hospice of Dothan.

Mrs. Ray was born in Wadley, Ala. She then moved to Ashland, Ala., where she was employed with Emery 5 &10 in 1944, moved to Childersburg in 1946 to help open Emery 5 & 10, and in 1960 was promoted to supervisor over all 13 stores in Alabama. Mrs. Ray was a member of the First Baptist Church of Childersburg and very active in the civic affairs of her community, as she served in the Chamber of Commerce in Childersburg, Sylacauga and Anniston, also the Salvation Army and other various community activities. In 1984 she retired and moved to Graceville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Craig Ray in 1963, and her great-granddaughter, Shelby Johnson in 1990.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Julia Ray Wilson and husband Stephen Eugene Wilson of Panama City; two granddaughters, Julie Burdeshaw and husband Patrick, Stefanie Johnson and husband Terry; three great-grandchildren, Ashley Burdeshaw, Stephen Burdeshaw and Liza Johnson, all of Graceville.

James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville will direct the service.

HUGH Jackson STEVERSON JR.

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Hugh Jackson “Bones” Steverson Jr., 72, will be Monday, Jan. 29, at 1 p.m. at Radney Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Pilkington and the Rev. Charles Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Mr. Steverson died Jan. 26. Visitation will be Sunday, Jan. 28, from 5 until 9 p.m.

He is survived by three daughters, Vickie Lynn Vincent, Billie Wayne “Crickett” Ballard and Tammy Jean Williams, all of Sylacauga; four grandsons, Landon Hugh Vincent, Jarod Blaynne Ballard, Joshua Blake Ballard and Jeremy Bryan Ballard.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Billy Frank Steverson and A.G. Thomas, and a sister, Jeanette Martin.

He worked as a boiler technician at Kimberly-Clark for some 22 years. After his retirement, he worked as head of maintenance for the TCRC until he again retired after 10 years of service.

SYLACAUGA - Mrs. Lynne C. Weber, age 61, of Sylacauga passed away Saturday, Jan. 27, at her residence.

MILDRED LOMBUS WILLIAMS

SYLACAUGA - Funeral service for Mrs. Mildred (Millie) Lombus Williams, 60, will be Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at Valley View Church of God with the Rev. Keith Owensby, the Rev. Jeff Ellis and the Rev. Freddie Edwards officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Williams died Friday, Jan. 26, at her residence. Visitation will be Monday, Jan. 29, from 6 until 9 p.m.

Survivors include her fiancé, Stewart Denney of Chelsea; three sons, Timothy Scott Williams of Marietta, Ga., Bowdie Allen Williams of Bradenton, Fla., and Steven Jay Williams of Chickamauga, Ga.; one daughter, Jerri Michelle McMurry of Pelham; a brother, Robert Lombus of Sylacauga; a sister, Elaine Hamilton of Sylacauga; and nine grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Judd Beaty, Ed Strempel, Mac Brewer, Johnny Kimbough, Tom Denney and Jeff Denney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Williams; brother, Johnnie Lombus; mother, Fennie Belle Lombus; and father, George Washington Lombus.

Curtis and Son North Chapel will direct the service.
